1Allora Isacco chiamò Giacobbe, lo benedisse e gli diede quest’ordine: «Non prendere moglie tra le donne di Canaan.2Parti, va’ a Paddan-Aram, alla casa di Betuel, padre di tua madre, e prendi moglie là, tra le figlie di Labano, fratello di tua madre.3Il Dio onnipotente ti benedica, ti renda fecondo e ti moltiplichi, in modo che tu diventi un’assemblea di popoli,4e ti dia la benedizione di Abraamo: a te e alla tua discendenza con te, perché tu possieda il paese dove sei andato peregrinando, che Dio donò ad Abraamo».5Isacco fece partire Giacobbe, il quale andò a Paddan-Aram da Labano, figlio di Betuel, l’Arameo, fratello di Rebecca, madre di Giacobbe e di Esaù.6Esaù vide che Isacco aveva benedetto Giacobbe e l’aveva mandato a Paddan-Aram perché vi prendesse moglie e che, benedicendolo, gli aveva dato quest’ordine: «Non prendere moglie tra le donne di Canaan»,7e che Giacobbe aveva ubbidito a suo padre e a sua madre ed era andato a Paddan-Aram.8Esaù comprese che le donne di Canaan non erano gradite a suo padre Isacco.9Allora andò da Ismaele, e prese per moglie, oltre quelle che aveva già, Maalat, figlia d’Ismaele, figlio di Abraamo, sorella di Nebaiot.10Giacobbe partì da Beer-Sceba e andò verso Caran.11Giunse ad un certo luogo e vi passò la notte, perché il sole era già tramontato. Prese una delle pietre del luogo, se la mise per capezzale e lì si coricò.12Fece un sogno: una scala poggiava sulla terra, mentre la sua cima toccava il cielo; e gli angeli di Dio salivano e scendevano per la scala.13Il Signore stava al di sopra di essa e gli disse: «Io sono il Signore, il Dio di Abraamo tuo padre e il Dio d’Isacco. La terra sulla quale tu stai coricato, io la darò a te e alla tua discendenza.14La tua discendenza sarà come la polvere della terra e tu ti estenderai a occidente e a oriente, a settentrione e a meridione, e tutte le famiglie della terra saranno benedette in te e nella tua discendenza.15Io sono con te, e ti proteggerò dovunque tu andrai e ti ricondurrò in questo paese, perché io non ti abbandonerò prima di aver fatto quello che ti ho detto».16Quando Giacobbe si svegliò dal sonno, disse: «Certo, il Signore è in questo luogo e io non lo sapevo!»17Ebbe paura e disse: «Com’è tremendo questo luogo! Questa non è altro che la casa di Dio, e questa è la porta del cielo!»18Giacobbe si alzò la mattina di buon’ora, prese la pietra che aveva messa come capezzale, la pose come pietra commemorativa e vi versò sopra dell’olio.19E chiamò quel luogo Betel[1]; mentre prima di allora il nome della città era Luz.20Giacobbe fece un voto, dicendo: «Se Dio è con me, se mi protegge durante questo viaggio che sto facendo, se mi dà pane da mangiare e vesti da coprirmi,21e se ritorno sano e salvo alla casa di mio padre, il Signore sarà il mio Dio22e questa pietra, che ho eretta come monumento, sarà la casa di Dio; di tutto quello che tu mi darai, io certamente ti darò la decima».
1Da ließ Isaak Jakob zu sich rufen. Er segnete ihn und sagte: „Du darfst dir keine Frau aus dem Land Kanaan nehmen.2Zieh ins obere Mesopotamien zur Sippe Betuëls, des Vaters deiner Mutter, und nimm dir eine Frau von den Töchtern Labans, des Bruders deiner Mutter.3El-Schaddai, der allmächtige Gott, wird dich segnen. Er mache dich fruchtbar und lasse dich zahlreich werden, sodass aus dir eine ganze Schar von Völkern wird.4Er gebe dir und deinen Nachkommen den Segen Abrahams, damit du das Land in Besitz nimmst, das Gott Abraham gegeben hat und in dem du jetzt noch als Fremder lebst!“5So ließ Isaak Jakob ziehen, und dieser machte sich auf den Weg ins obere Mesopotamien zu Laban, dem Sohn des Aramäers Betuël, dem Bruder Rebekkas, seiner und Esaus Mutter.6Als nun Esau erfuhr, dass Isaak Jakob gesegnet und ins obere Mesopotamien geschickt hatte, damit er sich dort eine Frau suche, und dass er ihm beim Segnen befohlen hatte: „Du darfst dir keine Frau aus dem Land Kanaan nehmen!“,7und dass Jakob seinem Vater und seiner Mutter gehorcht hatte und bereits aufgebrochen war,8da begriff Esau, dass die Frauen Kanaans seinem Vater zuwider waren.9Er ging zu Ismaël und nahm zu seinen Frauen noch eine weitere hinzu, nämlich Mahalat, die Tochter Ismaëls, die Schwester Nebajots und Enkelin Abrahams.10Jakob hatte sich von Beerscheba auf den Weg nach Haran gemacht.11Dabei kam er an einen bestimmten Ort und übernachtete dort, weil die Sonne schon untergegangen war. Er nahm einen der Steine des Platzes, machte ihn zu seinem Kopflager und legte sich schlafen.12Im Traum sah er einen Treppenaufgang,[1] dessen Spitze bis an den Himmel reichte. Engel stiegen auf ihm hinauf und herab.13Und auf einmal stand Jahwe über ihm und sagte: „Ich bin Jahwe, der Gott deines Vaters Abraham und der Gott Isaaks. Das Land, auf dem du liegst, will ich dir und deinen Nachkommen geben.14Deine Nachkommen werden zahlreich sein wie der Staub auf der Erde. Du wirst dich ausbreiten nach Westen und Osten, Norden und Süden. Durch dich und deine Nachkommenschaft sollen alle Sippen der Erde gesegnet werden.15Und ich werde dir beistehen. Ich beschütze dich überall, wohin du gehst, und bringe dich wieder in dieses Land zurück. Ich werde dich nicht verlassen und tue alles, was ich dir versprochen habe.“16Da erwachte Jakob und sagte: „Tatsächlich, Jahwe ist an diesem Ort, und ich habe es nicht gewusst.“17Er fürchtete sich und rief: „Ehrfurcht gebietet dieser Ort! Hier ist wirklich das Haus Gottes, das Tor des Himmels.“18Früh am Morgen stand Jakob auf. Er stellte den Stein, der an seinem Kopfende gelegen hatte, als Gedenkstein auf, goss Öl auf seine Spitze19und gab dem Ort den Namen Bet-El, Haus Gottes. Vorher hieß der Ort Lus.20Dann legte Jakob ein Gelübde ab: „Wenn Gott mir beisteht und mich auf meiner Reise behütet, wenn er mir Nahrung und Kleidung gibt21und ich wohlbehalten zu meiner Familie zurückkomme, dann soll Jahwe mein Gott sein.22Und hier an dieser Stelle, wo ich den Stein aufgestellt habe, soll ein Haus Gottes stehen. Und von allem, was du mir gibst, werde ich dir treu den zehnten Teil zurückgeben.“

Esau Marries an Ishmaelite
6Now Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him away to Paddan-aram to take a wife from there, and that as he blessed him he directed him, “You must not take a wife from the Canaanite women,”7and that Jacob had obeyed his father and his mother and gone to Paddan-aram.8So when Esau saw that the Canaanite women did not please Isaac his father, (Gen 24,3; Gen 26,35)9Esau went to Ishmael and took as his wife, besides the wives he had, Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, the sister of Nebaioth. Jacob’s Dream
10Jacob left Beersheba and went toward Haran. (Gen 21,31; Gen 26,33; At 7,2)11And he came to a certain place and stayed there that night, because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones of the place, he put it under his head and lay down in that place to sleep.12And he dreamed, and behold, there was a ladder[2] set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven. And behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it! (Nu 12,6; Giob 33,15; Giob 33,16; Giov 1,51)13And behold, the LORD stood above it[3] and said, “I am the LORD, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac. The land on which you lie I will give to you and to your offspring. El sueño de Jacob en Betel
10Jacob partió de Berseba y se encaminó hacia Jarán.11Cuando llegó a cierto lugar, se detuvo para pasar la noche, porque ya estaba anocheciendo. Tomó una piedra, la usó como almohada, y se acostó a dormir en ese lugar.12Allí soñó que había una escalinata apoyada en la tierra, y cuyo extremo superior llegaba hasta el cielo. Por ella subían y bajaban los ángeles de Dios.13En el sueño, el Señor estaba de pie junto a él y le decía: «Yo soy el Señor, el Dios de tu abuelo Abraham y de tu padre Isaac. A ti y a tu descendencia les daré la tierra sobre la que estás acostado.14Tu descendencia será tan numerosa como el polvo de la tierra. Te extenderás de norte a sur, y de oriente a occidente, y todas las familias de la tierra serán bendecidas por medio de ti y de tu descendencia.15Yo estoy contigo. Te protegeré por dondequiera que vayas, y te traeré de vuelta a esta tierra. No te abandonaré hasta cumplir con todo lo que te he prometido.»16Al despertar Jacob de su sueño, pensó: «En realidad, el Señor está en este lugar, y yo no me había dado cuenta.»17Y con mucho temor, añadió: «¡Qué asombroso es este lugar! Es nada menos que la casa de Dios; ¡es la puerta del cielo!»18A la mañana siguiente Jacob se levantó temprano, tomó la piedra que había usado como almohada, la erigió como una estela y derramó aceite sobre ella.19En aquel lugar había una ciudad que se llamaba Luz, pero Jacob le cambió el nombre y le puso Betel.[2]20Luego Jacob hizo esta promesa: «Si Dios me acompaña y me protege en este viaje que estoy haciendo, y si me da alimento y ropa para vestirme,21y si regreso sano y salvo a la casa de mi padre, entonces el Señor será mi Dios.22Y esta piedra que yo erigí como pilar será casa de Dios, y de todo lo que Dios me dé, le daré la décima parte.»
