1Quando Abramo ebbe novantanove anni, il Signore gli apparve e gli disse: «Io sono il Dio onnipotente; cammina alla mia presenza e sii integro;2e io stabilirò il mio patto fra me e te e ti moltiplicherò grandemente».3Allora Abramo si prostrò con la faccia a terra e Dio gli parlò, dicendo:4«Quanto a me, ecco il patto che faccio con te: tu diventerai padre di una moltitudine di nazioni;5non sarai più chiamato Abramo[1], ma il tuo nome sarà Abraamo, poiché io ti costituisco padre di una moltitudine di nazioni.6Ti farò moltiplicare grandemente, ti farò divenire nazioni e da te usciranno dei re.7Stabilirò il mio patto fra me e te e i tuoi discendenti dopo di te, di generazione in generazione; sarà un patto eterno per il quale io sarò il Dio tuo e della tua discendenza dopo di te.8A te e alla tua discendenza dopo di te darò il paese dove abiti come straniero: tutto il paese di Canaan, in possesso perenne; e sarò loro Dio».9Poi Dio disse ad Abraamo: «Quanto a te, tu osserverai il mio patto: tu e la tua discendenza dopo di te, di generazione in generazione.10Questo è il mio patto che voi osserverete, patto fra me e voi e la tua discendenza dopo di te: ogni maschio tra di voi sia circonciso.11Sarete circoncisi; questo sarà un segno del patto fra me e voi.12All’età di otto giorni, ogni maschio sarà circonciso tra di voi, di generazione in generazione: tanto quello nato in casa, quanto quello comprato con denaro da qualunque straniero e che non sia della tua discendenza.13Quello nato in casa tua e quello comprato con denaro dovrà essere circonciso; il mio patto nella vostra carne sarà un patto perenne.14L’incirconciso, il maschio che non sarà stato circonciso nella carne del suo prepuzio, sarà tolto via dalla sua gente: egli avrà violato il mio patto».15Dio disse ad Abraamo: «Quanto a Sarai tua moglie, non la chiamare più Sarai[2]; il suo nome sarà, invece, Sara.16Io la benedirò e da lei ti darò anche un figlio; la benedirò e diventerà nazioni; re di popoli usciranno da lei».17Allora Abraamo si prostrò con la faccia a terra, rise, e disse in cuor suo: «Nascerà un figlio a un uomo di cent’anni? E Sara partorirà ora che ha novant’anni?»18Abraamo disse a Dio: «Oh, possa almeno Ismaele vivere davanti a te!»19Dio rispose: «No, Sara, tua moglie, ti partorirà un figlio e tu gli porrai nome Isacco[3]. Io stabilirò il mio patto con lui, un patto eterno per la sua discendenza dopo di lui.20Quanto a Ismaele, io ti ho esaudito. Ecco, io l’ho benedetto e farò in modo che si moltiplichi e si accresca straordinariamente. Egli genererà dodici prìncipi e io farò di lui una grande nazione.21Ma stabilirò il mio patto con Isacco, che Sara ti partorirà in questa stagione il prossimo anno».22Quando ebbe finito di parlare con lui, Dio lasciò Abraamo, levandosi in alto.23Abraamo prese suo figlio Ismaele, tutti quelli che gli erano nati in casa e tutti quelli che aveva comprato con il suo denaro, tutti i maschi fra la gente della casa di Abraamo, e li circoncise, in quello stesso giorno, come Dio aveva detto di fare.24Abraamo aveva novantanove anni quando fu circonciso.25Suo figlio Ismaele aveva tredici anni quando fu circonciso.26In quel medesimo giorno fu circonciso Abraamo e Ismaele suo figlio.27Tutti gli uomini della sua casa, tanto quelli nati in casa quanto quelli comprati con denaro dagli stranieri, furono circoncisi con lui.
1Als Abram 99 Jahre alt war, erschien ihm Jahwe und sagte: „Ich bin El-Schaddai, 'Gott, der Allmächtige', geh deinen Weg vor mir und halte dich ganz an mich!2Ich schließe meinen Bund mit dir und werde dir unermesslich viele Nachkommen geben.“3Da warf sich Abram vor Gott nieder, das Gesicht auf dem Boden. Gott sagte weiter zu ihm:4„Pass auf! Mein Bund sieht so aus: Du wirst zum Vater vieler Völker werden.5Deshalb sollst du auch nicht mehr Abram[1] heißen, sondern Abraham![2] Denn ich habe dich zum Vater vieler Völker bestimmt.[3] (Ro 4,17)6Ich werde dich überaus fruchtbar machen, sodass deine Nachkommen zu ganzen Völkern werden. Selbst Könige werden von dir abstammen.7Ich schließe meinen Bund mit dir und deinen Nachkommen[4] durch alle Generationen hindurch. Es ist ein ewiger Bund, denn ich will dein und deiner Nachkommen Gott sein. (Ga 3,16)8Ich werde euch das ganze Land Kanaan geben, in dem du jetzt als Fremder lebst. Es wird deinen Nachkommen für immer gehören. Und ich werde ihr Gott sein.“9Weiter sagte Gott: „Doch du, du sollst meinen Bund halten, du und deine Nachkommen, durch alle Generationen hindurch!10Eure Verpflichtung mir gegenüber besteht darin, dass ihr jeden Mann und jeden eurer männlichen Nachkommen beschneiden müsst.11Bei allen müsst ihr die Vorhaut am Geschlechtsteil entfernen. Das ist das Zeichen für den Bund zwischen mir und euch.12Am achten Tag muss jedes männliche Neugeborene beschnitten werden. Das gilt auch für die Sklaven, die bei euch geboren werden oder die ihr von Fremden kauft, auch dann, wenn sie nicht zu deiner Nachkommenschaft gehören.13Sie müssen unbedingt beschnitten werden! Ihr sollt das Zeichen meines Bundes am Körper tragen, denn mein Bund gilt für alle Zeit.14Ein Unbeschnittener, ein Mann, bei dem die Vorhaut nicht entfernt wurde, muss von seinem Stammesverband beseitigt[5] werden. Er hat meinen Bund gebrochen.“15Dann sagte Gott zu Abraham: „Sarai, deine Frau, sollst du nicht mehr Sarai nennen. Von jetzt an soll sie Sara heißen.[6]16Ich werde sie segnen und dir einen Sohn von ihr schenken. Ich segne sie so, dass sie die Mutter ganzer Völker wird, selbst Könige werden von ihr stammen.“17Da warf sich Abraham vor Gott nieder, das Gesicht auf dem Boden, und lachte. Er dachte: „Einem Hundertjährigen soll noch ‹ein Sohn› geboren werden, und eine Neunzigjährige soll noch ‹ein Kind› bekommen?“18Dann sagte er zu Gott: „Wenn nur Ismaël vor dir leben kann!“19Aber Gott sagte: „Nein, deine Frau Sara wird dir einen Sohn gebären, den du Isaak, 'Lacher', nennen sollst. Mit ihm und seinen Nachkommen richte ich meinen Bund für alle Zeiten auf.20Doch auch wegen Ismaël habe ich dich erhört. Ich werde ihn segnen und fruchtbar machen, und er wird sehr viele Nachkommen haben. Zwölf Fürsten wird er zeugen, und ich mache ihn zum Vater eines großen Volkes.21Aber meinen Bund richte ich mit Isaak auf, den Sara dir im nächsten Jahr um diese Zeit schenken wird.“22Als Gott das Gespräch mit Abraham beendet hatte, fuhr er wieder zum Himmel hinauf.23Noch am gleichen Tag beschnitt Abraham seinen Sohn Ismaël und alle Sklaven, die in seinem Haus geboren oder bei Fremden gekauft worden waren, wie Gott es ihm gesagt hatte.24Auch er selbst ließ sich beschneiden. Damals war er 99 Jahre alt,25und sein Sohn Ismaël war dreizehn.26Abraham und Ismaël wurden also am gleichen Tag27mit allen Männern beschnitten, die zu Abrahams Haushalt gehörten.
1When Abram was ninety-nine years old the LORD appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am God Almighty;[1] walk before me, and be blameless, (Gen 6,9; De 18,13; Giob 1,1; Sal 119,1; Mat 5,48)2that I may make my covenant between me and you, and may multiply you greatly.” (Gen 12,2; Gen 13,16; Gen 22,17)3Then Abram fell on his face. And God said to him, (Gen 17,17)4“Behold, my covenant is with you, and you shall be the father of a multitude of nations. (Ro 4,11; Ro 4,12; Ro 4,16)5No longer shall your name be called Abram,[2] but your name shall be Abraham,[3] for I have made you the father of a multitude of nations. (Ne 9,7; Ro 4,17)6I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make you into nations, and kings shall come from you. (Gen 17,16; Gen 35,11)7And I will establish my covenant between me and you and your offspring after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your offspring after you. (Ga 3,17; Eb 11,16)8And I will give to you and to your offspring after you the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession, and I will be their God.” (Gen 12,7; Gen 13,15; Eso 6,7; Le 26,12; Sal 105,11)9And God said to Abraham, “As for you, you shall keep my covenant, you and your offspring after you throughout their generations.10This is my covenant, which you shall keep, between me and you and your offspring after you: Every male among you shall be circumcised.11You shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and you. (At 7,8; Ro 4,11)12He who is eight days old among you shall be circumcised. Every male throughout your generations, whether born in your house or bought with your money from any foreigner who is not of your offspring, (Eso 12,48; Eso 12,49; Le 12,3; Lu 1,59; Lu 2,21; Fili 3,5)13both he who is born in your house and he who is bought with your money, shall surely be circumcised. So shall my covenant be in your flesh an everlasting covenant.14Any uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin shall be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant.”
Isaac’s Birth Promised
15And God said to Abraham, “As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but Sarah[4] shall be her name.16I will bless her, and moreover, I will give[5] you a son by her. I will bless her, and she shall become nations; kings of peoples shall come from her.” (Gen 18,10; Gen 35,11)17Then Abraham fell on his face and laughed and said to himself, “Shall a child be born to a man who is a hundred years old? Shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?” (Gen 17,3; Gen 21,6; Giov 8,56; Ro 4,19)18And Abraham said to God, “Oh that Ishmael might live before you!”19God said, “No, but Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac.[6] I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his offspring after him. (Gen 18,10; Gen 21,2; Gen 21,3; Ga 4,23; Ga 4,28)20As for Ishmael, I have heard you; behold, I have blessed him and will make him fruitful and multiply him greatly. He shall father twelve princes, and I will make him into a great nation. (Gen 16,10; Gen 21,13; Gen 21,18; Gen 25,12)21But I will establish my covenant with Isaac, whom Sarah shall bear to you at this time next year.” (Gen 21,2; Gen 26,2)22When he had finished talking with him, God went up from Abraham. (Gen 35,13)23Then Abraham took Ishmael his son and all those born in his house or bought with his money, every male among the men of Abraham’s house, and he circumcised the flesh of their foreskins that very day, as God had said to him.24Abraham was ninety-nine years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.25And Ishmael his son was thirteen years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.26That very day Abraham and his son Ishmael were circumcised.27And all the men of his house, those born in the house and those bought with money from a foreigner, were circumcised with him.
1Cuando Abram tenía noventa y nueve años, el Señor se le apareció y le dijo: —Yo soy el Dios Todopoderoso. Vive en mi presencia y sé intachable.2Así confirmaré mi pacto contigo, y multiplicaré tu descendencia en gran manera.3Al oír que Dios le hablaba, Abram cayó rostro en tierra, y Dios continuó:4—Éste es el pacto que establezco contigo: Tú serás el padre de una multitud de naciones.5Ya no te llamarás Abram,[1] sino que de ahora en adelante tu nombre será Abraham, porque te he confirmado como padre de una multitud de naciones.6Te haré tan fecundo que de ti saldrán reyes y naciones.7Estableceré mi pacto contigo y con tu descendencia, como pacto perpetuo, por todas las generaciones. Yo seré tu Dios, y el Dios de tus descendientes.8A ti y a tu descendencia les daré, en posesión perpetua, toda la tierra de Canaán, donde ahora andan peregrinando. Y yo seré su Dios.9Dios también le dijo a Abraham: —Cumple con mi pacto, tú y toda tu descendencia, por todas las generaciones.10Y éste es el pacto que establezco contigo y con tu descendencia, y que todos deberán cumplir: Todos los varones entre ustedes deberán ser circuncidados.11Circuncidarán la carne de su prepucio, y ésa será la señal del pacto entre nosotros.12Todos los varones de cada generación deberán ser circuncidados a los ocho días de nacidos, tanto los niños nacidos en casa como los que hayan sido comprados por dinero a un extranjero y que, por lo tanto, no sean de la estirpe de ustedes.13Todos sin excepción, tanto el nacido en casa como el que haya sido comprado por dinero, deberán ser circuncidados. De esta manera mi pacto quedará como una marca indeleble en la carne de ustedes, como un pacto perpetuo.14Pero el varón incircunciso, al que no se le haya cortado la carne del prepucio, será eliminado de su pueblo por quebrantar mi pacto.15También le dijo Dios a Abraham: —A Saray, tu esposa, ya no la llamarás Saray, sino que su nombre será Sara.[2]16Yo la bendeciré, y por medio de ella te daré un hijo. Tanto la bendeciré, que será madre de naciones, y de ella surgirán reyes de pueblos.17Entonces Abraham inclinó el rostro hasta el suelo y se rió de pensar: «¿Acaso puede un hombre tener un hijo a los cien años, y ser madre Sara a los noventa?»18Por eso le dijo a Dios: —¡Concédele a Ismael vivir bajo tu bendición!19A lo que Dios contestó: —¡Pero es Sara, tu esposa, la que te dará un hijo, al que llamarás Isaac![3] Yo estableceré mi pacto con él y con sus descendientes, como pacto perpetuo.20En cuanto a Ismael, ya te he escuchado. Yo lo bendeciré, lo haré fecundo y le daré una descendencia numerosa. Él será el padre de doce príncipes. Haré de él una nación muy grande.21Pero mi pacto lo estableceré con Isaac, el hijo que te dará Sara de aquí a un año, por estos días.22Cuando Dios terminó de hablar con Abraham, se retiró de su presencia.23Ese mismo día Abraham tomó a su hijo Ismael, a los criados nacidos en su casa, a los que había comprado con su dinero y a todos los otros varones que había en su casa, y los circuncidó, tal como Dios se lo había mandado.24Abraham tenía noventa y nueve años cuando fue circuncidado,25mientras que su hijo Ismael tenía trece.26Así que ambos fueron circuncidados el mismo día27junto con todos los varones de su casa, tanto los nacidos en ella como los comprados a extranjeros.
