1 Rachele, vedendo che non partoriva figli a Giacobbe, invidiò sua sorella, e disse a Giacobbe: «Dammi dei figli, altrimenti muoio». 2 Giacobbe s’irritò contro Rachele, e disse: «Sono forse io al posto di Dio che ti ha negato di essere feconda?» 3 Lei rispose: «Ecco la mia serva Bila; entra da lei; ella partorirà sulle mie ginocchia e, per mezzo di lei, avrò anch’io dei figli». 4 Ella gli diede la sua serva Bila per moglie, e Giacobbe si unì a lei. 5 Bila concepì e partorì un figlio a Giacobbe. 6 Rachele disse: «Dio mi ha reso giustizia, ha anche ascoltato la mia voce e mi ha dato un figlio». Perciò lo chiamò Dan^[1]. 7 Bila, serva di Rachele, concepì ancora e partorì a Giacobbe un secondo figlio. 8 Rachele disse: «Ho sostenuto contro mia sorella lotte straordinarie e ho vinto». Perciò lo chiamò Neftali^[2]. 9 Lea, vedendo che aveva cessato d’aver figli, prese la sua serva Zilpa e la diede a Giacobbe per moglie. 10 Zilpa, serva di Lea, partorì un figlio a Giacobbe. 11 E Lea disse: «Che fortuna!» E lo chiamò Gad^[3]. 12 Poi Zilpa, serva di Lea, partorì a Giacobbe un secondo figlio. 13 Lea disse: «Sono felice! perché le fanciulle mi chiameranno beata». Perciò lo chiamò Ascer^[4]. 14 Ruben uscì al tempo della mietitura del grano e trovò nei campi delle mandragole^[5], che portò a Lea sua madre. Allora Rachele disse a Lea: «Ti prego, dammi delle mandragole di tuo figlio!» 15 Ma Lea rispose: «Ti pare poco avermi tolto il marito, che mi vuoi togliere anche le mandragole di mio figlio?» E Rachele disse: «Ebbene, si corichi pure con te questa notte, in compenso delle mandragole di tuo figlio». 16 Come Giacobbe, sul far della sera, se ne tornava nei campi, Lea uscì a incontrarlo, e gli disse: «Vieni da me, perché ti ho preso per me con le mandragole di mio figlio». Ed egli si coricò con lei quella notte. 17 Dio esaudì Lea, la quale concepì e partorì a Giacobbe un quinto figlio. 18 E lei disse: «Dio mi ha ricompensata, perché ho dato la mia serva a mio marito». E lo chiamò Issacar^[6]. 19 Lea concepì ancora e partorì a Giacobbe un sesto figlio. 20 E Lea disse: «Dio mi ha fatto un bel regalo; questa volta mio marito abiterà con me, perché gli ho partorito sei figli». E lo chiamò Zabulon^[7]. 21 Poi partorì una figlia e la chiamò Dina^[8]. 22 Dio si ricordò anche di Rachele; Dio la esaudì e la rese feconda. 23 Ella concepì e partorì un figlio, e disse: «Dio ha tolto la mia vergogna». 24 E lo chiamò Giuseppe^[9], dicendo: «Il Signore mi aggiunga un altro figlio».

Giacobbe diviene ricco

25 Dopo che Rachele ebbe partorito Giuseppe, Giacobbe disse a Labano: «Lasciami partire, perché io vada a casa mia, nel mio paese. 26 Dammi le mie mogli per le quali ti ho servito, i miei figli, e lasciami andare, poiché tu conosci il servizio che ti ho prestato». 27 Labano gli disse: «Se ho trovato grazia agli occhi tuoi, rimani; giacché credo di indovinare che il Signore mi ha benedetto per amor tuo». 28 Poi disse: «Fissami il tuo salario e te lo darò». 29 Giacobbe gli rispose: «Tu sai in che modo ti ho servito e quello che è diventato il tuo bestiame nelle mie mani. 30 Infatti quello che avevi prima della mia venuta era poco, ma ora si è molto accresciuto. Il Signore ti ha benedetto dovunque io ho messo il piede. Ora, quando lavorerò anch’io per la mia casa?» 31 Labano gli disse: «Che cosa ti devo dare?» Giacobbe rispose: «Non darmi nulla; se acconsenti a quello che sto per dirti, io pascolerò di nuovo le tue greggi e ne avrò cura. 32 Passerò quest’oggi in mezzo a tutte le tue greggi, mettendo da parte ogni agnello nero tra le pecore, ogni agnello macchiato e vaiolato; e tra le capre, le vaiolate e le macchiate. Quello sarà il mio salario. 33 Così da ora innanzi la mia giustizia parlerà per me in tua presenza quando verrai ad accertare il mio salario: tutto ciò che non sarà macchiato o vaiolato fra le capre e nero tra gli agnelli sarà rubato, se si troverà presso di me». 34 Labano disse: «Ebbene, sia come tu dici!» 35 Quello stesso giorno mise da parte i becchi striati e vaiolati e tutte le capre macchiate o vaiolate, tutto quello che aveva del bianco e tutto quello che era nero fra gli agnelli, e li affidò ai suoi figli. 36 Labano frappose la distanza di tre giornate di cammino tra sé e Giacobbe; Giacobbe pascolava il rimanente delle greggi di Labano. 37 Giacobbe prese dei rami verdi di pioppo, di mandorlo e di platano e vi fece delle scortecciature bianche, mettendo allo scoperto il bianco dei rami. 38 Poi collocò i rami, che aveva scortecciati, nei rigagnoli, negli abbeveratoi dove le pecore venivano a bere, proprio davanti alle pecore, ed esse entravano in calore quando venivano a bere. 39 Le pecore dunque entravano in calore presso quei rami e figliavano agnelli striati, macchiati e vaiolati. 40 Poi Giacobbe metteva da parte questi agnelli e faceva volgere gli occhi delle pecore verso tutto quello che era striato e tutto quello che era nero nel gregge di Labano. Egli si formò così delle greggi a parte, che non unì alle greggi di Labano. 41 Tutte le volte che le pecore vigorose del gregge entravano in calore, Giacobbe metteva i rami nei rigagnoli, sotto gli occhi delle pecore, perché le pecore entrassero in calore vicino a quei rami; 42 ma quando le pecore erano deboli, non ve le metteva; così gli agnelli deboli erano di Labano e i vigorosi di Giacobbe. 43 Quest’uomo diventò ricchissimo, ed ebbe greggi numerose, serve, servi, cammelli e asini.

(Sal 127,3) 3 Sie aber sprach: Siehe, da ist meine Magd Bilha; geh zu ihr, dass sie auf meinem Schoß gebäre und ich doch durch sie zu Kindern komme. (Gen 16,2) 4 So gab sie ihm Bilha, ihre Magd, zur Frau, und Jakob ging zu ihr. 5 Und Bilha ward schwanger und gebar Jakob einen Sohn. 6 Da sprach Rahel: Gott hat mir Recht verschafft und mich erhört und mir einen Sohn gegeben. Und nannte ihn Gad. 12 Danach gebar Silpa, Leas Magd, Jakob ihren zweiten Sohn. 13 Da sprach Lea: Wohl mir, denn mich werden selig preisen die Töchter. Und nannte ihn Asser. 14 Ruben ging aus zur Zeit der Weizenernte und fand Liebesäpfel auf dem Felde und brachte sie heim zu seiner Mutter Lea. Da sprach Rahel zu Lea: Gib mir von den Liebesäpfeln deines Sohnes. 15 Sie antwortete: Hast du nicht genug, dass du mir meinen Mann genommen hast, und willst auch die Liebesäpfel meines Sohnes nehmen? Rahel sprach: Wohlan, lass ihn diese Nacht bei dir schlafen für die Liebesäpfel deines Sohnes. 16 Als nun Jakob am Abend vom Felde kam, ging Lea hinaus ihm entgegen und sprach: Zu mir sollst du kommen, denn ich habe dich erkauft mit den Liebesäpfeln meines Sohnes. Und er schlief die Nacht bei ihr. 17 Und Gott erhörte Lea, und sie ward schwanger und gebar Jakob ihren fünften Sohn 18 und sprach: Gott hat mir gelohnt, dass ich meine Magd meinem Manne gegeben habe. Und nannte ihn Issachar. 19 Abermals ward Lea schwanger und gebar Jakob ihren sechsten Sohn 20 und sprach: Gott hat mich reich beschenkt; nun wird mein Mann mich ehren; denn ich habe ihm sechs Söhne geboren. Und nannte ihn Sebulon. 21 Danach gebar sie eine Tochter, die nannte sie Dina. 22 Gott gedachte aber an Rahel und erhörte sie und machte sie fruchtbar. Jakob kommt zu Reichtum

25 Als nun Rahel den Josef geboren hatte, sprach Jakob zu Laban: Lass mich ziehen und reisen an meinen Ort und in mein Land. 26 Gib mir meine Frauen und meine Kinder, um die ich dir gedient habe, dass ich ziehe; denn du weißt, wie ich dir gedient habe. (Gen 29,20; Gen 29,30; Gen 31,43) 27 Laban sprach zu ihm: Lass mich Gnade vor deinen Augen finden. Ich spüre, dass mich der HERR segnet um deinetwillen. (Gen 39,5) 28 Bestimme den Lohn, den ich dir geben soll. 29 Er aber sprach zu ihm: Du weißt, wie ich dir gedient habe und was aus deinem Vieh geworden ist unter mir. 30 Du hattest wenig, ehe ich herkam; nun aber ist’s geworden zu einer großen Menge, und der HERR hat dich gesegnet auf jedem meiner Schritte. Und nun, wann soll ich auch für mein Haus sorgen? 31 Er aber sprach: Was soll ich dir denn geben? Jakob sprach: Du sollst mir gar nichts geben; sondern wenn du mir tun willst, was ich dir sage, so will ich deine Schafe wieder weiden und hüten. 32 Ich will heute durch alle deine Herden gehen und aussondern alle gefleckten und bunten Schafe und alle schwarzen Schafe und die bunten und gefleckten Ziegen. Was nun bunt und gefleckt sein wird, das soll mein Lohn sein. 33 So wird meine Redlichkeit morgen für mich zeugen, wenn du kommst wegen meines Lohnes: Was nicht gefleckt oder bunt unter den Ziegen und nicht schwarz sein wird unter den Lämmern, das gelte als von mir gestohlen. 34 Da sprach Laban: Wohlan, es sei, wie du gesagt hast. 35 Und er sonderte an jenem Tage aus die sprenkligen und bunten Böcke und alle gefleckten und bunten Ziegen, wo nur etwas Weißes daran war, und alles, was schwarz war unter den Lämmern, und tat’s unter die Hand seiner Söhne 36 und machte einen Raum, drei Tagereisen weit, zwischen sich und Jakob. Jakob aber weidete die übrigen Herden Labans. 37 Und Jakob nahm frische Stäbe von Pappeln, Mandelbäumen und Platanen und schälte weiße Streifen daran aus, sodass an den Stäben das Weiße bloß wurde, 38 und legte die Stäbe, die er geschält hatte, in die Tränkrinnen, wo die Herden hinkommen mussten zu trinken. Und sie paarten sich, wenn sie zum Trinken kamen. 39 So empfingen die Herden über den Stäben und brachten Sprenklige, Gefleckte und Bunte. 40 Da sonderte Jakob die Lämmer aus, und er richtete den Blick der Tiere auf das Sprenklige und alles Schwarze in der Herde Labans. So machte er sich eigene Herden; die tat er nicht zu den Herden Labans. 41 Wenn sich aber die kräftigen Tiere paarten, legte er die Stäbe in die Rinnen vor die Augen der Herde, dass sie über den Stäben empfingen. 42 Aber wenn die Tiere schwächlich waren, legte er sie nicht hinein. So wurden die schwächlichen Tiere dem Laban zuteil, aber die kräftigen dem Jakob. 43 Daher wurde der Mann über die Maßen reich, sodass er viele Schafe, Mägde und Knechte, Kamele und Esel hatte.

Si no me los das, ¡me muero! 2 Pero Jacob se enojó muchísimo con ella y le dijo: —¿Acaso crees que soy Dios? ¡Es él quien te ha hecho estéril! 3 —Aquí tienes a mi criada Bilhá —propuso Raquel—. Acuéstate con ella. Así ella dará a luz sobre mis rodillas, y por medio de ella también yo podré formar una familia. 4 Entonces Raquel le dio a Jacob por mujer su criada Bilhá, y Jacob se acostó con ella. 5 Bilhá quedó embarazada y le dio un hijo a Jacob. 6 Y Raquel exclamó: «¡Dios me ha hecho justicia! ¡Escuchó mi plegaria y me ha dado un hijo!» Por eso Raquel le puso por nombre Dan.^[1] 7 Después Bilhá, la criada de Raquel, quedó embarazada otra vez y dio a luz un segundo hijo de Jacob. 8 Y Raquel dijo: «He tenido una lucha muy grande con mi hermana, pero he vencido.» Por eso Raquel lo llamó Neftalí.^[2] 9 Lea, al ver que ya no podía tener hijos, tomó a su criada Zilpá y se la entregó a Jacob por mujer, 10 y ésta le dio a Jacob un hijo. 11 Entonces Lea exclamó: «¡Qué suerte!» Por eso lo llamó Gad.^[3] 12 Zilpá, la criada de Lea, le dio un segundo hijo a Jacob. 13 Lea volvió a exclamar: «¡Qué feliz soy! Las mujeres me dirán que soy feliz.» Por eso lo llamó Aser.^[4] 14 Durante los días de la cosecha de trigo, Rubén salió al campo. Allí encontró unas frutas llamadas mandrágoras, y se las llevó a Lea, su madre. Entonces Raquel le dijo a Lea: —Por favor, dame algunas mandrágoras de las que te trajo tu hijo. 15 Pero Lea le contestó: —¿Te parece poco el haberme quitado a mi marido, que ahora quieres también quitarme las mandrágoras de mi hijo? —Bueno —contestó Raquel—, te propongo que, a cambio de las mandrágoras de tu hijo, Jacob duerma contigo esta noche. 16 Al anochecer, cuando Jacob volvía del campo, Lea salió a su encuentro y le dijo: —Hoy te acostarás conmigo, porque te he alquilado a cambio de las mandrágoras de mi hijo. Y Jacob durmió con ella esa noche. 17 Dios escuchó a Lea, y ella quedó embarazada y le dio a Jacob un quinto hijo. 18 Entonces dijo Lea: «Dios me ha recompensado, porque yo le entregué mi criada a mi esposo.» Por eso lo llamó Isacar.^[5] 19 Lea quedó embarazada de nuevo, y le dio a Jacob un sexto hijo. 20 «Dios me ha favorecido con un buen regalo —dijo Lea—. Esta vez mi esposo se quedará conmigo,^[6] porque le he dado seis hijos.» Por eso lo llamó Zabulón. 21 Luego Lea dio a luz una hija, a la cual llamó Dina. 22 Pero Dios también se acordó de Raquel; la escuchó y le quitó la esterilidad. 23 Fue así como ella quedó embarazada y dio a luz un hijo. Entonces exclamó: «Dios ha borrado mi desgracia.» 24 Por eso lo llamó José, y dijo: «Quiera el Señor darme otro hijo.»

Jacob se enriquece

25 Después de que Raquel dio a luz a José, Jacob le dijo a Labán: —Déjame regresar a mi hogar y a mi propia tierra. 26 Dame las mujeres por las que te he servido, y mis hijos, y déjame ir. Tú bien sabes cómo he trabajado para ti. 27 Pero Labán le contestó: —Por favor, quédate. He sabido por adivinación que, gracias a ti, el Señor me ha bendecido. 28 Y le propuso: —Fija tú mismo el salario que quieras ganar, y yo te lo pagaré. 29 Jacob le respondió: —Tú bien sabes cómo he trabajado, y cómo gracias a mis desvelos han mejorado tus animales. 30 Lo que tenías antes de mi venida, que era muy poco, se ha multiplicado enormemente. Gracias a mí, el Señor te ha bendecido. Ahora quiero hacer algo por mi propia familia. 31 —¿Cuánto quieres que te pague? —preguntó Labán. —No tienes que pagarme nada —respondió Jacob—. Si aceptas lo que estoy por proponerte, seguiré cuidando tus ovejas. 32 Hoy, cuando pase yo con todo tu rebaño, tú irás apartando toda oveja manchada o moteada, y todos los corderos negros, y todos los cabritos manchados o moteados. Ellos serán mi salario. 33 Así, el día de mañana, cuando vengas a controlar lo que he ganado, mi honradez responderá por mí: si encuentras alguna oveja o cabrito que no sea manchado o moteado, o algún cordero que no sea negro, será que te lo he robado. 34 —Está bien —acordó Labán—, acepto tu propuesta. 35 Ese mismo día Labán apartó todos los chivos rayados y moteados, todas las cabras manchadas y moteadas, todas las que tenían alguna mancha blanca, y todos los corderos negros, y los puso al cuidado de sus hijos. 36 Después de eso, puso una distancia de tres días de viaje entre él y Jacob. Mientras tanto, Jacob seguía cuidando las otras ovejas de Labán. 37 Jacob cortó ramas verdes de álamo, de almendro y de plátano, y las peló de tal manera que quedaran franjas blancas al descubierto. 38 Luego tomó las ramas que había pelado, y las puso en todos los abrevaderos para que el rebaño las tuviera enfrente cuando se acercara a beber agua. Cuando las ovejas estaban en celo y llegaban a los abrevaderos, 39 los machos se unían con las hembras frente a las ramas, y así tenían crías rayadas, moteadas o manchadas. 40 Entonces Jacob apartaba estos corderos y los ponía frente a los animales rayados y negros del rebaño de Labán. De esta manera logró crear su propio rebaño, diferente al de Labán. 41 Además, cuando las hembras más robustas estaban en celo, Jacob colocaba las ramas en los bebederos, frente a los animales, para que se unieran mirando hacia las ramas. 42 Pero cuando llegaban los animales más débiles, no colocaba las ramas. Así los animales débiles eran para Labán y los robustos eran para Jacob. 43 De esta manera Jacob prosperó muchísimo y llegó a tener muchos rebaños, criados y criadas, camellos y asnos.
