Fuga di Giacobbe in Mesopotamia; visione della scala

1 Allora Isacco chiamò Giacobbe, lo benedisse e gli diede quest’ordine: «Non prendere moglie tra le donne di Canaan. 2 Parti, va’ a Paddan-Aram, alla casa di Betuel, padre di tua madre, e prendi moglie là, tra le figlie di Labano, fratello di tua madre. 3 Il Dio onnipotente ti benedica, ti renda fecondo e ti moltiplichi, in modo che tu diventi un’assemblea di popoli, 4 e ti dia la benedizione di Abraamo: a te e alla tua discendenza con te, perché tu possieda il paese dove sei andato peregrinando, che Dio donò ad Abraamo». 5 Isacco fece partire Giacobbe, il quale andò a Paddan-Aram da Labano, figlio di Betuel, l’Arameo, fratello di Rebecca, madre di Giacobbe e di Esaù. 6 Esaù vide che Isacco aveva benedetto Giacobbe e l’aveva mandato a Paddan-Aram perché vi prendesse moglie e che, benedicendolo, gli aveva dato quest’ordine: «Non prendere moglie tra le donne di Canaan», 7 e che Giacobbe aveva ubbidito a suo padre e a sua madre ed era andato a Paddan-Aram. 8 Esaù comprese che le donne di Canaan non erano gradite a suo padre Isacco. 9 Allora andò da Ismaele, e prese per moglie, oltre quelle che aveva già, Maalat, figlia d’Ismaele, figlio di Abraamo, sorella di Nebaiot. 10 Giacobbe partì da Beer-Sceba e andò verso Caran. 11 Giunse ad un certo luogo e vi passò la notte, perché il sole era già tramontato. Prese una delle pietre del luogo, se la mise per capezzale e lì si coricò. 12 Fece un sogno: una scala poggiava sulla terra, mentre la sua cima toccava il cielo; e gli angeli di Dio salivano e scendevano per la scala. 13 Il Signore stava al di sopra di essa e gli disse: «Io sono il Signore, il Dio di Abraamo tuo padre e il Dio d’Isacco. La terra sulla quale tu stai coricato, io la darò a te e alla tua discendenza. 14 La tua discendenza sarà come la polvere della terra e tu ti estenderai a occidente e a oriente, a settentrione e a meridione, e tutte le famiglie della terra saranno benedette in te e nella tua discendenza. 15 Io sono con te, e ti proteggerò dovunque tu andrai e ti ricondurrò in questo paese, perché io non ti abbandonerò prima di aver fatto quello che ti ho detto». 16 Quando Giacobbe si svegliò dal sonno, disse: «Certo, il Signore è in questo luogo e io non lo sapevo!» 17 Ebbe paura e disse: «Com’è tremendo questo luogo! Questa non è altro che la casa di Dio, e questa è la porta del cielo!» 18 Giacobbe si alzò la mattina di buon’ora, prese la pietra che aveva messa come capezzale, la pose come pietra commemorativa e vi versò sopra dell’olio. 19 E chiamò quel luogo Betel^[1]; mentre prima di allora il nome della città era Luz. 20 Giacobbe fece un voto, dicendo: «Se Dio è con me, se mi protegge durante questo viaggio che sto facendo, se mi dà pane da mangiare e vesti da coprirmi, 21 e se ritorno sano e salvo alla casa di mio padre, il Signore sarà il mio Dio 22 e questa pietra, che ho eretta come monumento, sarà la casa di Dio; di tutto quello che tu mi darai, io certamente ti darò la decima».

1 Da rief Isaak seinen Sohn Jakob und segnete ihn und gebot ihm und sprach zu ihm: Nimm dir nicht eine Frau von den Töchtern Kanaans, (Gen 24,3) 2 sondern mach dich auf und zieh nach Paddan-Aram zum Hause Betuëls, des Vaters deiner Mutter, und nimm dir dort eine Frau von den Töchtern Labans, des Bruders deiner Mutter. (Gen 22,23; Gen 24,29) 3 Und der allmächtige Gott segne dich und mache dich fruchtbar und mehre dich, dass du werdest eine Menge von Völkern, (Gen 17,1) 4 und gebe dir den Segen Abrahams, dir und deinen Nachkommen mit dir, dass du besitzest das Land, darin du jetzt ein Fremdling bist, das Gott dem Abraham gegeben hat. 5 So entließ Isaak den Jakob, dass er nach Paddan-Aram zog zu Laban, dem Sohn des Aramäers Betuël, dem Bruder Rebekkas, Jakobs und Esaus Mutter. 6 Nun sah Esau, dass Isaak Jakob gesegnet und nach Paddan-Aram entlassen hatte, um sich dort eine Frau zu nehmen; er hatte ihn nämlich gesegnet und ihm geboten: Du sollst dir keine Frau nehmen von den Töchtern Kanaans. 7 Und Jakob hörte auf seinen Vater und seine Mutter und ging nach Paddan-Aram. 8 Esau aber sah, dass die Töchter Kanaans seinem Vater Isaak missfielen. 9 Da ging er hin zu Ismael und nahm zu den Frauen, die er bereits hatte, Mahalat, die Tochter Ismaels, des Sohnes Abrahams, die Schwester Nebajots, zur Frau. Jakob schaut die Himmelsleiter

10 Aber Jakob zog aus von Beerscheba und machte sich auf den Weg nach Haran 11 und kam an eine Stätte, da blieb er über Nacht, denn die Sonne war untergegangen. Und er nahm einen Stein von der Stätte und legte ihn zu seinen Häupten und legte sich an der Stätte schlafen. 12 Und ihm träumte, und siehe, eine Leiter stand auf Erden, die rührte mit der Spitze an den Himmel, und siehe, die Engel Gottes stiegen daran auf und nieder. (Giov 1,51) 13 Und der HERR stand oben darauf und sprach: Ich bin der HERR, der Gott deines Vaters Abraham, und Isaaks Gott; das Land, darauf du liegst, will ich dir und deinen Nachkommen geben. 14 Und dein Geschlecht soll werden wie der Staub auf Erden, und du sollst ausgebreitet werden gegen Westen und Osten, Norden und Süden, und durch dich und deine Nachkommen sollen alle Geschlechter auf Erden gesegnet werden. (Gen 12,3; Gen 13,14; Gen 26,4) 15 Und siehe, ich bin mit dir und will dich behüten, wo du hinziehst, und will dich wieder herbringen in dies Land. Denn ich will dich nicht verlassen, bis ich alles tue, was ich dir zugesagt habe. 16 Als nun Jakob von seinem Schlaf aufwachte, sprach er: Fürwahr, der HERR ist an dieser Stätte, und ich wusste es nicht! 17 Und er fürchtete sich und sprach: Wie heilig^[1] ist diese Stätte! Hier ist nichts anderes als Gottes Haus, und hier ist die Pforte des Himmels. (Eso 3,5) 18 Und Jakob stand früh am Morgen auf und nahm den Stein, den er zu seinen Häupten gelegt hatte, und richtete ihn auf zu einem Steinmal und goss Öl oben darauf (Gen 35,14) 19 und nannte die Stätte Bethel^[2]; vorher aber hieß die Stadt Lus. 20 Und Jakob tat ein Gelübde und sprach: Wird Gott mit mir sein und mich behüten auf dem Wege, den ich reise, und mir Brot zu essen geben und Kleider anzuziehen 21 und mich mit Frieden wieder heim zu meinem Vater bringen, so soll der HERR mein Gott sein. 22 Und dieser Stein, den ich aufgerichtet habe zu einem Steinmal, soll ein Gotteshaus werden; und von allem, was du mir gibst, will ich dir den Zehnten geben. 1 And Isaac called Jacob, and blessed him, and charged him, and said unto him, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan. 2 Arise, go to Padanaram, to the house of Bethuel thy mother' father; and take thee a wife from thence of the daughters of Laban thy mother' brother. 3 And God Almighty bless thee, and make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, that thou mayest be a multitude of people; 4 And give thee the blessing of Abraham, to thee, and to thy seed with thee; that thou mayest inherit the land wherein thou art a stranger, which God gave unto Abraham. 5 And Isaac sent away Jacob: and he went to Padanaram unto Laban, son of Bethuel the Syrian, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob' and Esau' mother. 6 When Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob, and sent him away to Padanaram, to take him a wife from thence; and that as he blessed him he gave him a charge, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan; 7 And that Jacob obeyed his father and his mother, and was gone to Padanaram; 8 And Esau seeing that the daughters of Canaan pleased not Isaac his father; 9 Then went Esau unto Ishmael, and took unto the wives which he had Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael Abraham' son, the sister of Nebajoth, to be his wife. 10 And Jacob went out from Beersheba, and went toward Haran. 11 And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep. 12 And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it. 13 And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed; 14 And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed. 15 And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of. 16 And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not. 17 And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven. 18 And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it. 19 And he called the name of that place Bethel: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first. 20 And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on, 21 So that I come again to my father' house in peace; then shall the LORD be my God: 22 And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God' house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.

1 Isaac llamó a Jacob, lo bendijo y le ordenó: —No te cases con ninguna mujer de aquí de Canaán. 2 Vete ahora mismo a Padán Aram,^[1] a la casa de Betuel, tu abuelo materno, y cásate allá con una de las hijas de tu tío Labán. 3 Que el Dios Todopoderoso te bendiga, te haga fecundo y haga que salgan de ti numerosas naciones. 4 Que también te dé, a ti y a tu descendencia, la bendición de Abraham, para que puedan poseer esta tierra donde ahora vives como extranjero, esta tierra que Dios le prometió a Abraham. 5 Así envió Isaac a Jacob a Padán Aram, a la casa de Labán, quien era hijo de Betuel el arameo, y hermano de Rebeca, la madre de Jacob y de Esaú. 6 Esaú supo que Isaac había bendecido a Jacob, y que lo había enviado a Padán Aram para casarse allá. También se enteró de que, al bendecirlo, le dio la orden de no casarse con ninguna cananea, 7 y de que Jacob había partido hacia Padán Aram en obediencia a su padre y a su madre. 8 Entonces Esaú se dio cuenta de la antipatía de su padre por las cananeas. 9 Por eso, aunque ya tenía otras esposas cananeas, Esaú fue hasta donde vivía Ismael hijo de Abraham y se casó con su hija Majalat, que era hermana de Nebayot.

El sueño de Jacob en Betel

10 Jacob partió de Berseba y se encaminó hacia Jarán. 11 Cuando llegó a cierto lugar, se detuvo para pasar la noche, porque ya estaba anocheciendo. Tomó una piedra, la usó como almohada, y se acostó a dormir en ese lugar. 12 Allí soñó que había una escalinata apoyada en la tierra, y cuyo extremo superior llegaba hasta el cielo. Por ella subían y bajaban los ángeles de Dios. 13 En el sueño, el Señor estaba de pie junto a él y le decía: «Yo soy el Señor, el Dios de tu abuelo Abraham y de tu padre Isaac. A ti y a tu descendencia les daré la tierra sobre la que estás acostado. 14 Tu descendencia será tan numerosa como el polvo de la tierra. Te extenderás de norte a sur, y de oriente a occidente, y todas las familias de la tierra serán bendecidas por medio de ti y de tu descendencia. 15 Yo estoy contigo. Te protegeré por dondequiera que vayas, y te traeré de vuelta a esta tierra. No te abandonaré hasta cumplir con todo lo que te he prometido.» 16 Al despertar Jacob de su sueño, pensó: «En realidad, el Señor está en este lugar, y yo no me había dado cuenta.» 17 Y con mucho temor, añadió: «¡Qué asombroso es este lugar! Es nada menos que la casa de Dios; ¡es la puerta del cielo!» 18 A la mañana siguiente Jacob se levantó temprano, tomó la piedra que había usado como almohada, la erigió como una estela y derramó aceite sobre ella. 19 En aquel lugar había una ciudad que se llamaba Luz, pero Jacob le cambió el nombre y le puso Betel.^[2] 20 Luego Jacob hizo esta promesa: «Si Dios me acompaña y me protege en este viaje que estoy haciendo, y si me da alimento y ropa para vestirme, 21 y si regreso sano y salvo a la casa de mi padre, entonces el Señor será mi Dios. 22 Y esta piedra que yo erigí como pilar será casa de Dios, y de todo lo que Dios me dé, le daré la décima parte.»
