Giacobbe benedetto al posto di Esaù

1 Isacco era invecchiato e i suoi occhi indeboliti non ci vedevano più. Allora egli chiamò Esaù, suo figlio maggiore, e gli disse: «Figlio mio!» 2 Quello rispose: «Eccomi!» E Isacco: «Ecco, io sono vecchio e non so il giorno della mia morte. 3 Ora prendi, ti prego, le tue armi, le tue frecce e il tuo arco, va’ fuori nei campi e prendimi un po’ di selvaggina. 4 Poi preparami una pietanza saporita, di quelle che mi piacciono; portamela perché io la mangi e ti benedica prima che io muoia». 5 Rebecca stava ad ascoltare mentre Isacco parlava a suo figlio Esaù. Ed Esaù se ne andò nei campi per cacciare della selvaggina e portarla a suo padre. 6 Rebecca parlò a suo figlio Giacobbe e gli disse: «Ho udito tuo padre che parlava con tuo fratello Esaù, e gli diceva: 7 “Portami un po’ di selvaggina e fammi una pietanza saporita perché io la mangi e ti benedica davanti al Signore, prima che io muoia”. 8 Ora, figlio mio, ubbidisci alla mia voce e fa’ quello che ti comando. 9 Va’ al gregge e prendimi due buoni capretti e io ne farò una pietanza saporita per tuo padre, di quelle che gli piacciono. 10 Tu la porterai a tuo padre, perché la mangi e così ti benedica prima che egli muoia». 11 Giacobbe disse a Rebecca sua madre: «Mio fratello Esaù è peloso, e io no. 12 Può darsi che mio padre mi tasti e mi consideri un impostore e mi attirerò addosso una maledizione invece di una benedizione». 13 Sua madre gli rispose: «Questa maledizione ricada su di me, figlio mio! Ubbidisci pure alla mia voce e va’ a prendermi i capretti». 14 Egli dunque andò a prenderli e li portò a sua madre; e sua madre ne preparò una pietanza saporita, di quelle che piacevano al padre di lui. 15 Poi Rebecca prese i più bei vestiti di Esaù, suo figlio maggiore, i quali erano in casa presso di lei, e li fece indossare a Giacobbe suo figlio minore; 16 con le pelli dei capretti gli coprì le mani e il collo, che erano senza peli. 17 Poi mise in mano a suo figlio Giacobbe la pietanza saporita e il pane che aveva preparato. 18 Egli andò da suo padre e gli disse: «Padre mio!» Isacco rispose: «Eccomi; chi sei tu, figlio mio?» 19 Giacobbe disse a suo padre: «Sono Esaù, il tuo primogenito. Ho fatto come tu mi hai detto. Àlzati, ti prego, mettiti a sedere e mangia la mia selvaggina, perché tu mi benedica». 20 Isacco disse a suo figlio: «Come hai fatto a trovarne così presto, figlio mio?» E quello rispose: «Perché il Signore, il tuo Dio, l’ha fatta venire sulla mia via». 21 Allora Isacco disse a Giacobbe: «Avvicìnati, figlio mio, e lascia che io ti tasti, per sapere se sei proprio mio figlio Esaù, o no». 22 Giacobbe s’avvicinò a suo padre Isacco; e, come questi lo ebbe tastato, disse: «La voce è la voce di Giacobbe, ma le mani sono le mani di Esaù». 23 Non lo riconobbe, perché le sue mani erano pelose come le mani di suo fratello Esaù, e lo benedisse. 24 Disse: «Tu sei proprio mio figlio Esaù?» Egli rispose: «Sì». 25 E Isacco gli disse: «Portami da mangiare la selvaggina di mio figlio, e io ti benedirò». Giacobbe gliene servì, e Isacco mangiò. Giacobbe gli portò anche del vino, ed egli bevve. 26 Poi suo padre Isacco gli disse: «Ora avvicìnati e baciami, figlio mio». 27 Egli s’avvicinò e lo baciò. E Isacco sentì l’odore dei vestiti, e lo benedisse dicendo: «Ecco, l’odore di mio figlio è come l’odore di un campo, che il Signore ha benedetto. 28 Dio ti conceda la rugiada del cielo, la fertilità della terra e abbondanza di frumento e di vino. 29 Ti servano i popoli e le nazioni s’inchinino davanti a te. Sii padrone dei tuoi fratelli e i figli di tua madre s’inchinino davanti a te. Maledetto sia chiunque ti maledice, benedetto sia chiunque ti benedice!» 30 Appena Isacco ebbe finito di benedire Giacobbe e Giacobbe se ne fu andato dalla presenza di suo padre Isacco, Esaù suo fratello giunse dalla caccia. 31 Anch’egli preparò una pietanza saporita, la portò a suo padre e gli disse: «Si alzi mio padre, e mangi della selvaggina di suo figlio, perché mi benedica». 32 Suo padre Isacco gli disse: «Chi sei tu?» Ed egli rispose: «Sono Esaù, tuo figlio primogenito». 33 Isacco fu preso da un tremito fortissimo e disse: «E allora, chi è colui che ha preso della selvaggina e me l’ha portata? Io ho mangiato di tutto prima che tu venissi, e l’ho benedetto; e benedetto egli sarà». 34 Quando Esaù udì le parole di suo padre, emise un grido forte e amarissimo. Poi disse a suo padre: «Benedici anche me, padre mio». 35 Isacco rispose: «Tuo fratello è venuto con inganno e si è preso la tua benedizione». 36 Ed Esaù: «Non è forse a ragione che egli è stato chiamato Giacobbe? Mi ha già soppiantato due volte: mi tolse la mia primogenitura, ed ecco che ora mi ha tolto la mia benedizione». Poi aggiunse: «Non hai serbato qualche benedizione per me?» 37 Isacco rispose e disse a Esaù: «Io l’ho costituito tuo padrone, gli ho dato tutti i suoi fratelli per servi e l’ho provveduto di frumento e di vino; che potrei dunque fare per te, figlio mio?» 38 Allora Esaù disse a suo padre: «Hai tu questa sola benedizione, padre mio? Benedici anche me, padre mio!» Quindi Esaù alzò la voce e pianse. 39 Suo padre Isacco rispose e gli disse: «Ecco, la tua dimora sarà priva della fertilità della terra e della rugiada che scende dal cielo. 40 Tu vivrai della tua spada, e sarai servo di tuo fratello; ma avverrà che, conducendo una vita errante, tu spezzerai il suo giogo dal tuo collo». 41 Esaù odiava Giacobbe a causa della benedizione datagli da suo padre, e disse in cuor suo: «I giorni del lutto di mio padre si avvicinano, allora ucciderò mio fratello Giacobbe». 42 Furono riferite a Rebecca le parole di Esaù, suo figlio maggiore, e lei mandò a chiamare Giacobbe, suo figlio minore, e gli disse: «Esaù, tuo fratello, vuole vendicarsi e ucciderti. 43 Ora, figlio mio, ubbidisci alla mia voce; lèvati e fuggi a Caran da mio fratello Labano, 44 rimani laggiù, finché il furore di tuo fratello sia passato, 45 finché l’ira di tuo fratello si sia stornata da te ed egli abbia dimenticato quello che tu gli hai fatto. Allora io manderò a farti ritornare da laggiù. Perché dovrei essere privata di voi due in uno stesso giorno?» 46 Rebecca disse a Isacco: «Sono disgustata a causa di queste donne ittite. Se Giacobbe prende in moglie, tra le Ittite, tra le abitanti del paese, una come quelle, che mi giova la vita?»

1 Und es begab sich, als Isaak alt geworden war und seine Augen zu schwach zum Sehen wurden, rief er Esau, seinen älteren Sohn, und sprach zu ihm: Mein Sohn! Er aber antwortete ihm: Hier bin ich. 2 Und er sprach: Siehe, ich bin alt geworden und weiß nicht, wann ich sterben werde. 3 So nimm nun dein Gerät, Köcher und Bogen, und geh aufs Feld und jage mir ein Wildbret 4 und mach mir ein Essen, wie ich’s gern habe, und bring mir’s herein, dass ich esse, auf dass dich meine Seele segne, ehe ich sterbe. 5 Rebekka aber hörte diese Worte, die Isaak zu seinem Sohn Esau sagte. Und Esau ging hin aufs Feld, dass er ein Wildbret jagte und heimbrächte. 6 Da sprach Rebekka zu Jakob, ihrem Sohn: Siehe, ich habe deinen Vater mit Esau, deinem Bruder, reden hören: 7 Bringe mir ein Wildbret und mach mir ein Essen, dass ich esse und dich segne vor dem HERRN, ehe ich sterbe. 8 So höre nun auf mich, mein Sohn, und tu, was ich dich heiße. 9 Geh hin zu der Herde und hole mir zwei gute Böcklein, dass ich deinem Vater ein Essen davon mache, wie er’s gerne hat. 10 Das sollst du deinem Vater hineintragen, dass er esse, auf dass er dich segne vor seinem Tod. 11 Jakob aber sprach zu seiner Mutter Rebekka: Siehe, mein Bruder Esau ist behaart, doch ich bin glatt; (Gen 25,25) 12 so könnte vielleicht mein Vater mich betasten, und ich würde vor ihm dastehen, als ob ich ihn betrügen wollte, und brächte über mich einen Fluch und nicht einen Segen. 13 Da sprach seine Mutter zu ihm: Dein Fluch sei auf mir, mein Sohn; gehorche nur meinen Worten, geh und hole mir. 14 Da ging er hin und holte und brachte es seiner Mutter. Da machte seine Mutter ein Essen, wie es sein Vater gerne hatte, 15 und nahm Esaus, ihres älteren Sohnes, Feierkleider, die sie bei sich im Hause hatte, und zog sie Jakob an, ihrem jüngeren Sohn. 16 Aber die Felle von den Böcklein tat sie ihm um seine Hände und wo er glatt war am Halse. 17 Und so gab sie das Essen mit dem Brot, wie sie es gemacht hatte, in die Hand ihres Sohnes Jakob. 18 Und er ging hinein zu seinem Vater und sprach: Mein Vater! Er antwortete: Hier bin ich. Wer bist du, mein Sohn? 19 Jakob sprach zu seinem Vater: Ich bin Esau, dein erstgeborener Sohn; ich habe getan, wie du mir gesagt hast. Richte dich auf, setz dich und iss von meinem Wildbret, auf dass mich deine Seele segne. (Le 19,14) 20 Isaak aber sprach zu seinem Sohn: Wie hast du so bald gefunden, mein Sohn? Er antwortete: Der HERR, dein Gott, bescherte mir’s. 21 Da sprach Isaak zu Jakob: Tritt herzu, mein Sohn, dass ich dich betaste, ob du mein Sohn Esau bist oder nicht. 22 So trat Jakob zu seinem Vater Isaak. Und als er ihn betastet hatte, sprach er: Die Stimme ist Jakobs Stimme, aber die Hände sind Esaus Hände. 23 Und er erkannte ihn nicht; denn seine Hände waren behaart wie Esaus, seines Bruders, Hände. Und er segnete ihn 24 und sprach: Bist du mein Sohn Esau? Er antwortete: Ja, ich bin’s. 25 Da sprach er: So bringe mir her, ich will essen vom Wildbret meines Sohnes, dass dich meine Seele segne. Da brachte er’s ihm und er aß; und er trug ihm auch Wein hinein und er trank. 26 Und Isaak, sein Vater, sprach zu ihm: Komm her und küsse mich, mein Sohn! 27 Er trat hinzu und küsste ihn. Da roch er den Geruch seiner Kleider und segnete ihn und sprach: Siehe, der Geruch meines Sohnes ist wie der Geruch des Feldes, das der HERR gesegnet hat. 28 Gott gebe dir vom Tau des Himmels und vom Fett der Erde und Korn und Wein die Fülle. (Eb 11,20) 29 Völker sollen dir dienen, und Stämme sollen dir zu Füßen fallen. Sei ein Herr über deine Brüder, und deiner Mutter Söhne sollen dir zu Füßen fallen. Verflucht sei, wer dir flucht; gesegnet sei, wer dich segnet! (Gen 12,3; Gen 25,23) 30 Als nun Isaak den Segen über Jakob vollendet hatte und Jakob kaum hinausgegangen war von seinem Vater Isaak, da kam Esau, sein Bruder, von seiner Jagd 31 und machte auch ein Essen und trug’s hinein zu seinem Vater und sprach zu ihm: Richte dich auf, mein Vater, und iss von dem Wildbret deines Sohnes, dass mich deine Seele segne. 32 Da antwortete ihm Isaak, sein Vater: Wer bist du? Er sprach: Ich bin Esau, dein erstgeborener Sohn. 33 Da entsetzte sich Isaak über die Maßen sehr und sprach: Wer? Wo ist denn der Jäger, der mir gebracht hat, und ich habe von allem gegessen, ehe du kamst, und hab ihn gesegnet? Er wird auch gesegnet bleiben. 34 Als Esau diese Worte seines Vaters hörte, schrie er laut und wurde über die Maßen sehr betrübt und sprach zu seinem Vater: Segne mich auch, mein Vater! (Eb 12,17) 35 Er aber sprach: Dein Bruder ist gekommen mit List und hat deinen Segen weggenommen. 36 Da sprach er: Er heißt mit Recht Jakob^[1], denn er hat mich nun zweimal überlistet. Meine Erstgeburt hat er genommen und siehe, nun nimmt er auch meinen Segen. Und er sprach: Hast du mir denn keinen Segen vorbehalten? (Gen 25,26; Gen 25,33) 37 Isaak antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Ich habe ihn zum Herrn über dich gesetzt, und alle seine Brüder hab ich ihm zu Knechten gemacht, mit Korn und Wein hab ich ihn versehen; was soll ich nun dir noch tun, mein Sohn? 38 Esau sprach zu seinem Vater: Hast du denn nur einen Segen, mein Vater? Segne mich auch, mein Vater! Und er erhob seine Stimme und weinte. 39 Da antwortete Isaak, sein Vater, und sprach zu ihm: Siehe, du wirst wohnen fern vom Fett der Erde und fern vom Tau, der vom Himmel kommt. 40 Von deinem Schwerte wirst du dich nähren, und deinem Bruder sollst du dienen. Aber es wird geschehen, dass du einmal sein Joch von deinem Halse reißen wirst. (2Re 8,20; 2Re 8,22)

Jakobs Flucht nach Haran

41 Und Esau war Jakob gram um des Segens willen, mit dem ihn sein Vater gesegnet hatte, und sprach in seinem Herzen: Es wird die Zeit bald kommen, dass man um meinen Vater Leid tragen muss; dann will ich meinen Bruder Jakob umbringen. 42 Da wurden Rebekka angesagt diese Worte ihres älteren Sohnes Esau. Und sie schickte hin und ließ Jakob, ihren jüngeren Sohn, rufen und sprach zu ihm: Siehe, dein Bruder Esau will sich rächen und dich umbringen. 43 Und nun höre auf mich, mein Sohn: Mach dich auf und flieh zu meinem Bruder Laban nach Haran (Gen 24,29) 44 und bleib eine Weile bei ihm, bis sich der Grimm deines Bruders legt 45 und bis sein Zorn wider dich sich von dir wendet und er vergisst, was du ihm getan hast; dann will ich schicken und dich von dort holen lassen. Warum sollte ich euer beider beraubt werden auf einen Tag? 46 Und Rebekka sprach zu Isaak: Mich verdrießt zu leben wegen der Hetiterinnen. Wenn Jakob eine Frau nimmt von den Hetiterinnen wie diese, eine von den Töchtern des Landes, was soll mir das Leben? (Gen 26,34)

1 And it came to pass, that when Isaac was old, and his eyes were dim, so that he could not see, he called Esau his eldest son, and said unto him, My son: and he said unto him, Behold, here am I. 2 And he said, Behold now, I am old, I know not the day of my death: 3 Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison; 4 And make me savoury meat, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless thee before I die. 5 And Rebekah heard when Isaac spake to Esau his son. And Esau lifted up his voice, and wept. 39 And Isaac his father answered and said unto him, Behold, thy dwelling shall be the fatness of the earth, and of the dew of heaven from above; 40 And by thy sword shalt thou live, and shalt serve thy brother; and it shall come to pass when thou shalt have the dominion, that thou shalt break his yoke from off thy neck. 41 And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing wherewith his father blessed him: and Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then will I slay my brother Jacob. 42 And these words of Esau her elder son were told to Rebekah: and she sent and called Jacob her younger son, and said unto him, Behold, thy brother Esau, as touching thee, doth comfort himself, purposing to kill thee. 43 Now therefore, my son, obey my voice; and arise, flee thou to Laban my brother to Haran; 44 And tarry with him a few days, until thy brother' fury turn away; 45 Until thy brother' anger turn away from thee, and he forget that which thou hast done to him: then I will send, and fetch thee from thence: why should I be deprived also of you both in one day? 46 And Rebekah said to Isaac, I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth: if Jacob take a wife of the daughters of Heth, such as these which are of the daughters of the land, what good shall my life do me?

Un día llamó a Esaú, su hijo mayor. —¡Hijo mío! —le dijo. —Aquí estoy —le contestó Esaú. 2 —Como te darás cuenta, ya estoy muy viejo y en cualquier momento puedo morirme. 3 Toma, pues, tus armas, tu arco y tus flechas, y ve al campo a cazarme algún animal. 4 Prepárame luego un buen guiso, como a mí me gusta, y tráemelo para que me lo coma. Entonces te bendeciré antes de que muera. 5 Como Rebeca había estado escuchando mientras Isaac le hablaba a su hijo Esaú, en cuanto éste se fue al campo a cazar un animal para su padre, 6 ella le dijo a su hijo Jacob: —Según acabo de escuchar, tu padre le ha pedido a tu hermano Esaú 7 que cace un animal y se lo traiga para hacerle un guiso como a él le gusta. También le ha prometido que antes de morirse lo va a bendecir, poniendo al Señor como testigo. 8 Ahora bien, hijo mío, escúchame bien, y haz lo que te mando. 9 Ve al rebaño y tráeme de allí dos de los mejores cabritos, para que yo le prepare a tu padre un guiso como a él le gusta. 10 Tú se lo llevarás para que se lo coma, y así él te dará su bendición antes de morirse. 11 Pero Jacob le dijo a su madre: —Hay un problema: mi hermano Esaú es muy velludo, y yo soy lampiño. 12 Si mi padre me toca, se dará cuenta de que quiero engañarlo, y esto hará que me maldiga en vez de bendecirme. 13 —Hijo mío, ¡que esa maldición caiga sobre mí! —le contestó su madre—. Tan sólo haz lo que te pido, y ve a buscarme esos cabritos. 14 Jacob fue a buscar los cabritos, se los llevó a su madre, y ella preparó el guiso tal como le gustaba a su padre. 15 Luego sacó la mejor ropa de su hijo mayor Esaú, la cual tenía en casa, y con ella vistió a su hijo menor Jacob. 16 Con la piel de los cabritos le cubrió los brazos y la parte lampiña del cuello, 17 y le entregó a Jacob el guiso y el pan que había preparado. 18 Jacob se presentó ante su padre y le dijo: —¡Padre! —Dime, hijo mío, ¿quién eres tú? —preguntó Isaac. 19 —Soy Esaú, tu primogénito —le contestó Jacob—. Ya hice todo lo que me pediste. Ven, por favor, y siéntate a comer de lo que he cazado; así podrás darme tu bendición. 20 Pero Isaac le preguntó a su hijo: —¿Cómo fue que lo encontraste tan pronto, hijo mío? —El Señor tu Dios me ayudó —respondió Jacob. 21 Isaac le dijo: —Acércate, hijo mío, para que pueda tocarte y saber si de veras eres o no mi hijo Esaú. 22 Jacob se acercó a su padre, quien al tocarlo dijo: —La voz es la de Jacob, pero las manos son las de Esaú. 23 Así que no lo reconoció, porque sus manos eran velludas como las de Esaú. Ya se disponía a bendecirlo 24 cuando volvió a preguntarle: —¿En serio eres mi hijo Esaú? —Claro que sí —respondió Jacob. 25 Entonces su padre le dijo: —Tráeme lo que has cazado, para que lo coma, y te daré mi bendición. Jacob le sirvió, y su padre comió. También le llevó vino, y su padre lo bebió. 26 Luego le dijo su padre: —Acércate ahora, hijo mío, y dame un beso. 27 Jacob se acercó y lo besó. Cuando Isaac olió su ropa, lo bendijo con estas palabras: «El olor de mi hijo es como el de un campo bendecido por el Señor. 28 Que Dios te conceda el rocío del cielo; que de la riqueza de la tierra te dé trigo y vino en abundancia. 29 Que te sirvan los pueblos; que ante ti se inclinen las naciones. Que seas señor de tus hermanos; que ante ti se inclinen los hijos de tu madre. Maldito sea el que te maldiga, y bendito el que te bendiga.» 30 No bien había terminado Isaac de bendecir a Jacob, y éste de salir de la presencia de su padre, cuando Esaú volvió de cazar. 31 También él preparó un guiso, se lo llevó a su padre y le dijo: —Levántate, padre mío, y come de lo que ha cazado tu hijo. Luego podrás darme tu bendición. 32 Pero Isaac lo interrumpió: —¿Quién eres tú? —Soy Esaú, tu hijo primogénito —respondió. 33 Isaac comenzó a temblar y, muy sobresaltado, dijo: —¿Quién fue el que ya me trajo lo que había cazado? Poco antes de que llegaras, yo me lo comí todo. Le di mi bendición, y bendecido quedará. 34 Al escuchar Esaú las palabras de su padre, lanzó un grito aterrador y, lleno de amargura, le dijo: —¡Padre mío, te ruego que también a mí me bendigas! 35 Pero Isaac le respondió: —Tu hermano vino y me engañó, y se llevó la bendición que a ti te correspondía. 36 —¡Con toda razón le pusieron Jacob!^[1] —replicó Esaú—. Ya van dos veces que me engaña: primero me quita mis derechos de primogénito, y ahora se lleva mi bendición. ¿No te queda ninguna bendición para mí? 37 Isaac le respondió: —Ya lo he puesto por señor tuyo: todos sus hermanos serán siervos suyos; lo he sustentado con trigo y con vino. ¿Qué puedo hacer ahora por ti, hijo mío? 38 Pero Esaú insistió: —¿Acaso tienes una sola bendición, padre mío? ¡Bendíceme también a mí! Y se echó a llorar. 39 Entonces su padre le dijo: «Vivirás lejos de las riquezas de la tierra, lejos del rocío que cae del cielo. 40 Gracias a tu espada, vivirás y servirás a tu hermano. Pero cuando te impacientes, te librarás de su opresión.»

Jacob huye de Esaú

41 A partir de ese momento, Esaú guardó un profundo rencor hacia su hermano por causa de la bendición que le había dado su padre, y pensaba: «Ya falta poco para que hagamos duelo por mi padre; después de eso, mataré a mi hermano Jacob.» 42 Cuando Rebeca se enteró de lo que estaba pensando Esaú, mandó llamar a Jacob, y le dijo: —Mira, tu hermano Esaú está planeando matarte para vengarse de ti. 43 Por eso, hijo mío, obedéceme: Prepárate y huye en seguida a Jarán, a la casa de mi hermano Labán, 44 y quédate con él por un tiempo, hasta que se calme el enojo de tu hermano. 45 Cuando ya se haya tranquilizado, y olvide lo que le has hecho, yo enviaré a buscarte. ¿Por qué voy a perder a mis dos hijos en un solo día? 46 Luego Rebeca le dijo a Isaac: —Estas mujeres hititas me tienen harta. Me han quitado las ganas de vivir. Si Jacob se llega a casar con una de las hititas que viven en este país, ¡más me valdría morir!
