Abraamo a Gherar

1 Abraamo partì di là andando verso la regione meridionale, si stabilì fra Cades e Sur; poi abitò come straniero in Gherar. 2 Abraamo diceva di sua moglie Sara: «È mia sorella». E Abimelec, re di Gherar, mandò a prendere Sara. 3 Ma Dio venne di notte, in un sogno, ad Abimelec e gli disse: «Ecco, tu sei morto, a causa della donna che ti sei presa; perché è sposata». 4 Or Abimelec, che non si era ancora accostato a lei, rispose: «Signore, faresti perire una nazione anche se giusta? 5 Egli non mi ha forse detto: “È mia sorella?” Anche lei ha detto: “Egli è mio fratello”. Io ho fatto questo nell’integrità del mio cuore e con mani innocenti». 6 Dio gli disse nel sogno: «Anch’io so che tu hai fatto questo nell’integrità del tuo cuore: ti ho quindi preservato dal peccare contro di me; perciò non ti ho permesso di toccarla. 7 Ora, restituisci la moglie a quest’uomo, perché è profeta; egli pregherà per te e tu vivrai. Ma, se non la restituisci, sappi che sicuramente morirai, tu e tutti i tuoi». 8 Abimelec si alzò di mattina presto, chiamò tutti i suoi servi e raccontò in loro presenza tutte queste cose. E quegli uomini furono presi da grande paura. 9 Poi Abimelec chiamò Abraamo e gli disse: «Che ci hai fatto? In che cosa ti ho offeso, ché tu abbia attirato su di me e sul mio regno questo grande peccato? Tu mi hai fatto cose che non si debbono fare». 10 Di nuovo Abimelec disse ad Abraamo: «A che miravi facendo questo?» 11 Abraamo rispose: «L’ho fatto perché dicevo tra me: “Certo, in questo luogo non c’è timor di Dio e mi uccideranno a causa di mia moglie”. 12 Inoltre, è veramente mia sorella, figlia di mio padre, ma non figlia di mia madre, ed è diventata mia moglie. 13 Or quando Dio mi fece emigrare lontano dalla casa di mio padre, io le dissi: “Questo è il favore che tu mi farai; dovunque giungeremo dirai di me: ‘È mio fratello’”». 14 Abimelec prese delle pecore, dei buoi, dei servi e delle serve; li diede ad Abraamo e gli restituì Sara, sua moglie. 15 Abimelec disse: «Ecco, il mio paese ti sta davanti; va’ a stabilirti dove ti piacerà». 16 E a Sara disse: «Ecco, io ho dato a tuo fratello mille pezzi d’argento; questo sarà per te come un velo agli occhi davanti a tutti quelli che sono con te, e sarai riabilitata di fronte a tutti». 17 Abraamo pregò Dio e Dio guarì Abimelec, la moglie e le serve di lui, ed esse poterono partorire. 18 Infatti, il Signore aveva reso sterile l’intera casa di Abimelec a causa di Sara, moglie di Abraamo.

Abraham und Sara bei Abimelech

1 Abraham aber zog von dannen ins Südland und wohnte zwischen Kadesch und Schur und lebte nun als ein Fremdling zu Gerar. (Gen 12,9; Gen 12,10; Gen 26,1) 2 Er sagte aber von Sara, seiner Frau: Sie ist meine Schwester. Da sandte Abimelech, der König von Gerar, hin und ließ Sara holen. 3 Aber Gott kam zu Abimelech des Nachts im Traum und sprach zu ihm: Siehe, du bist des Todes um der Frau willen, die du genommen hast; denn sie ist eines Mannes Ehefrau. 4 Abimelech aber hatte sie nicht berührt und sprach: Herr, willst du denn auch ein gerechtes Volk umbringen? 5 Hat er nicht zu mir gesagt: Sie ist meine Schwester? Und sie hat auch gesagt: Er ist mein Bruder. Hab ich das doch getan mit einfältigem Herzen und unschuldigen Händen. 6 Und Gott sprach zu ihm im Traum: Ich weiß auch, dass du das mit einfältigem Herzen getan hast. Darum habe ich dich auch behütet, dass du nicht wider mich sündigtest, und habe es nicht zugelassen, dass du sie berührtest. 7 So gib nun dem Mann seine Frau wieder, denn er ist ein Prophet, und lass ihn für dich bitten, so wirst du am Leben bleiben. Wenn du sie aber nicht wiedergibst, so wisse, dass du des Todes sterben musst und alles, was dein ist. (1Re 13,6) 8 Da stand Abimelech früh am Morgen auf und rief alle seine Knechte und sagte dieses alles vor ihren Ohren. Und die Männer fürchteten sich sehr. 9 Und Abimelech rief Abraham auch herzu und sprach zu ihm: Warum hast du uns das angetan? Und was habe ich an dir gesündigt, dass du eine so große Sünde wolltest auf mich und mein Reich bringen? Du hast an mir gehandelt, wie man nicht handeln soll. 10 Und Abimelech sprach weiter zu Abraham: Wie bist du dazu gekommen, dass du solches getan hast? 11 Abraham sprach: Ich dachte, gewiss ist keine Gottesfurcht an diesem Orte, und sie werden mich um meiner Frau willen umbringen. 12 Auch ist sie wahrhaftig meine Schwester, denn sie ist meines Vaters Tochter, aber nicht meiner Mutter Tochter; so ist sie meine Frau geworden. (Le 18,9) 13 Als mich Gott aus meines Vaters Hause ins Ungewisse wandern hieß, sprach ich zu ihr: Tu mir diese Liebe, dass, wo wir hinkommen, du von mir sagst, ich sei dein Bruder. (Gen 12,1) 14 Da nahm Abimelech Schafe und Rinder, Knechte und Mägde und gab sie Abraham und gab ihm Sara, seine Frau, wieder. 15 Und Abimelech sprach: Siehe da, mein Land steht dir offen; wohne, wo dir’s wohlgefällt. 16 Und zu Sara sprach er: Siehe da, ich habe deinem Bruder tausend Silberstücke gegeben; siehe, das soll eine Decke sein über den Augen aller, die bei dir sind, dir zugute. Damit ist dir bei allen Recht verschafft. 17 Abraham aber betete zu Gott. Da heilte Gott Abimelech und seine Frau und seine Mägde, dass sie wieder Kinder gebaren. 18 Denn der HERR hatte zuvor hart verschlossen jeden Mutterschoß im Hause Abimelechs um Saras, Abrahams Frau, willen.

1 And Abraham journeyed from thence toward the south country, and dwelled between Kadesh and Shur, and sojourned in Gerar. 2 And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She is my sister: and Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah. 3 But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, thou art but a dead man, for the woman which thou hast taken; for she is a man' wife. 4 But Abimelech had not come near her: and he said, Lord, wilt thou slay also a righteous nation? 5 Said he not unto me, She is my sister? and she, even she herself said, He is my brother: in the integrity of my heart and innocency of my hands have I done this. 6 And God said unto him in a dream, Yea, I know that thou didst this in the integrity of thy heart; for I also withheld thee from sinning against me: therefore suffered I thee not to touch her. 7 Now therefore restore the man his wife; for he is a prophet, and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live: and if thou restore her not, know thou that thou shalt surely die, thou, and all that are thine. 8 Therefore Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these things in their ears: and the men were sore afraid. 9 Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said unto him, What hast thou done unto us? and what have I offended thee, that thou hast brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? thou hast done deeds unto me that ought not to be done. 10 And Abimelech said unto Abraham, What sawest thou, that thou hast done this thing? 11 And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely the fear of God is not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife' sake. 12 And yet indeed she is my sister; she is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife. 13 And it came to pass, when God caused me to wander from my father' house, that I said unto her, This is thy kindness which thou shalt shew unto me; at every place whither we shall come, say of me, He is my brother. 14 And Abimelech took sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and womenservants, and gave them unto Abraham, and restored him Sarah his wife. 15 And Abimelech said, Behold, my land is before thee: dwell where it pleaseth thee. 16 And unto Sarah he said, Behold, I have given thy brother a thousand pieces of silver: behold, he is to thee a covering of the eyes, unto all that are with thee, and with all other : thus she was reproved. 17 So Abraham prayed unto God: and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maidservants; and they bare children . 18 For the LORD had fast closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah Abraham' wife.

1 Abraham partió desde allí en dirección a la región del Néguev, y se quedó a vivir entre Cades y Sur. Mientras vivía en Guerar, 2 Abraham decía que Sara, su esposa, era su hermana. Entonces Abimélec, rey de Guerar, mandó llamar a Sara y la tomó por esposa. 3 Pero aquella noche Dios se le apareció a Abimélec en sueños y le dijo: —Puedes darte por muerto a causa de la mujer que has tomado, porque ella es casada. 4 Pero como Abimélec todavía no se había acostado con ella, le contestó: —Señor, ¿acaso vas a matar al inocente?^[1] 5 Como Abraham me dijo que ella era su hermana, y ella me lo confirmó, yo hice todo esto de buena fe y sin mala intención. 6 —Sí, ya sé que has hecho todo esto de buena fe —le respondió Dios en el sueño—; por eso no te permití tocarla, para que no pecaras contra mí. 7 Pero ahora devuelve esa mujer a su esposo, porque él es profeta y va a interceder por ti para que vivas. Si no lo haces, ten por seguro que morirás junto con todos los tuyos. 8 En la madrugada del día siguiente, Abimélec se levantó y llamó a todos sus servidores para contarles en detalle lo que había ocurrido, y un gran temor se apoderó de ellos. 9 Entonces Abimélec llamó a Abraham y le reclamó: —¡Qué nos has hecho! ¿En qué te he ofendido, que has traído un pecado tan grande sobre mí y sobre mi reino? ¡Lo que me has hecho no tiene nombre! 10 ¿Qué pretendías conseguir con todo esto? Al reclamo de Abimélec, 11 Abraham contestó: —Yo pensé que en este lugar no había temor de Dios, y que por causa de mi esposa me matarían. 12 Pero en realidad ella es mi hermana, porque es hija de mi padre aunque no de mi madre; y además es mi esposa. 13 Cuando Dios me mandó dejar la casa de mi padre y andar errante, yo le dije a mi esposa: “Te pido que me hagas este favor: Dondequiera que vayamos, di siempre que soy tu hermano.” 14 Abimélec tomó entonces ovejas y vacas, esclavos y esclavas, y se los regaló a Abraham. Al mismo tiempo, le devolvió a Sara, su esposa, 15 y le dijo: —Mira, ahí está todo mi territorio; quédate a vivir donde mejor te parezca. 16 A Sara le dijo: —Le he dado a tu hermano mil monedas de plata, que servirán de compensación por todo lo que te ha pasado; así quedarás vindicada ante todos los que están contigo.^[2] 17 Entonces Abraham oró a Dios, y Dios sanó a Abimélec y permitió que su esposa y sus siervas volvieran a tener hijos, 18 porque a causa de lo ocurrido con Sara, la esposa de Abraham, el Señor había hecho que todas las mujeres en la casa de Abimélec quedaran estériles.
