Distruzione di Sodoma e di Gomorra

1 I due angeli giunsero a Sodoma verso sera. Lot stava seduto alla porta di Sodoma; come li vide, si alzò per andare loro incontro, si prostrò con la faccia a terra, 2 e disse: «Signori miei, vi prego, venite in casa del vostro servo, fermatevi questa notte e lavatevi i piedi; poi domattina vi alzerete per tempo e continuerete il vostro cammino». Essi risposero: «No, passeremo la notte sulla piazza». 3 Ma egli fece loro tanta premura che andarono da lui ed entrarono in casa sua. Egli preparò per loro un rinfresco, fece cuocere dei pani senza lievito ed essi mangiarono. 4 Ma prima che si fossero coricati, gli uomini della città, i Sodomiti, circondarono la casa: giovani e vecchi, la popolazione intera venuta da ogni lato. Chiamarono Lot e gli dissero: 5 «Dove sono quegli uomini che sono venuti da te questa notte? Falli uscire, perché vogliamo abusare di loro». 6 Lot uscì verso di loro sull’ingresso della casa, si chiuse dietro la porta, e disse: 7 «Vi prego, fratelli miei, non fate questo male! 8 Ecco, ho due figlie che non hanno conosciuto uomo: lasciate che io ve le conduca fuori e voi farete di loro quel che vi piacerà; ma non fate nulla a questi uomini, perché sono venuti all’ombra del mio tetto». 9 Essi però gli dissero: «Togliti di mezzo!» E ancora: «Quest’individuo è venuto qua come straniero e vuol fare il giudice! Ora faremo a te peggio che a quelli!» E, premendo Lot con violenza, s’avvicinarono per sfondare la porta. 10 Ma quegli uomini stesero la mano, tirarono Lot in casa con loro e chiusero la porta. 11 Colpirono di cecità la gente che era alla porta della casa, dal più piccolo al più grande, così che si stancarono di cercare la porta. 12 Quegli uomini dissero a Lot: «Chi hai ancora qui? Fa’ uscire da questo luogo generi, figli, figlie e chiunque dei tuoi è in questa città, 13 perché noi distruggeremo questo luogo. Infatti il grido contro i suoi abitanti è grande davanti al Signore, e il Signore ci ha mandati a distruggerlo». 14 Allora Lot uscì, parlò ai suoi generi che avevano preso le sue figlie, e disse: «Alzatevi, uscite da questo luogo, perché il Signore sta per distruggere la città». Ma ai suoi generi parve che volesse scherzare. 15 Quando l’alba cominciò ad apparire, gli angeli sollecitarono Lot dicendo: «Àlzati, prendi tua moglie e le tue figlie che si trovano qui, perché tu non perisca nel castigo di questa città». 16 Ma egli indugiava; e quegli uomini presero per la mano lui, sua moglie e le sue due figlie, perché il Signore lo voleva risparmiare. Lo portarono via e lo misero fuori dalla città. 17 Dopo averli fatti uscire, uno di quegli uomini disse: «Metti la tua vita al sicuro: non guardare indietro e non ti fermare in alcun luogo della pianura; cerca scampo sul monte, altrimenti perirai!» 18 Lot rispose loro: «No, mio signore! 19 Ecco, il tuo servo ha trovato grazia ai tuoi occhi, e tu hai mostrato la grandezza della tua bontà verso di me conservandomi in vita; ma io non posso salvarmi sui monti prima che il disastro mi travolga e io muoia. 20 Ecco, c’è questa città vicina per rifugiarmi – è piccola – e lascia che io fugga lì – e non è forse piccola? – e così io vivrò». 21 E quello rispose: «Ecco, anche questa grazia io ti concedo: di non distruggere la città della quale hai parlato. 22 Affrèttati, rifùgiati là, perché io non posso far nulla finché tu non vi sia giunto». Perciò quella città fu chiamata Soar^[1]. 23 Il sole spuntava sulla terra quando Lot arrivò a Soar. 24 Allora il Signore fece piovere dal cielo su Sodoma e Gomorra zolfo e fuoco, da parte del Signore. 25 Egli distrusse quelle città, tutta la pianura, tutti gli abitanti delle città e quanto cresceva sul suolo. 26 Ma la moglie di Lot si volse a guardare indietro e diventò una statua di sale. 27 Abraamo si alzò la mattina presto e andò al luogo dove si era prima fermato davanti al Signore; 28 guardò verso Sodoma e Gomorra e verso tutta la regione della pianura, ed ecco vide un fumo che saliva dalla terra, come il fumo di una fornace. 29 Fu così che Dio si ricordò di Abraamo, quando egli distrusse le città della pianura e fece scampare Lot al disastro, mentre distruggeva le città dove Lot aveva abitato.

Origini di Moab e di Ammon

30 Lot salì da Soar per andare ad abitare sul monte insieme con le sue due figlie, perché temeva di stare in Soar; e si stabilì in una caverna, egli con le sue due figlie. 31 La maggiore disse alla minore: «Nostro padre è vecchio e non c’è più nessuno sulla terra per mettersi con noi, come si usa in tutta la terra. 32 Vieni, diamo da bere del vino a nostro padre, e corichiamoci con lui, perché possiamo conservare la razza di nostro padre». 33 Quella stessa notte diedero da bere del vino al loro padre; la maggiore entrò e si coricò con suo padre, ed egli non si accorse quando lei si coricò né quando si alzò. 34 Il giorno seguente la maggiore disse alla minore: «Ecco, la notte passata io mi sono coricata con mio padre; diamogli da bere del vino anche questa notte e tu entra, coricati con lui, perché possiamo conservare la razza di nostro padre». 35 E anche quella notte diedero da bere del vino al loro padre e la minore andò a coricarsi con lui; egli non si accorse quando lei si coricò né quando si alzò. 36 Così le due figlie di Lot rimasero incinte del loro padre. 37 La maggiore partorì un figlio, che chiamò Moab. Questi è il padre dei Moabiti, che esistono fino al giorno d’oggi. 38 Anche la minore partorì un figlio, che chiamò Ben-Ammi. Questi è il padre degli Ammoniti, che esistono fino al giorno d’oggi.

1 Die zwei Engel kamen nach Sodom am Abend; Lot aber saß zu Sodom unter dem Tor. Und als er sie sah, stand er auf, ging ihnen entgegen und neigte sich bis zur Erde (Gen 18,22) 2 und sprach: Siehe, liebe Herren, kehrt doch ein im Hause eures Knechts, bleibt über Nacht und lasst eure Füße waschen. Frühmorgens mögt ihr aufbrechen und eure Straße ziehen. Aber sie sprachen: Nein, wir wollen über Nacht im Freien bleiben. 3 Da nötigte er sie sehr und sie kehrten zu ihm ein und kamen in sein Haus. Und er machte ihnen ein Mahl und backte ungesäuerte Brote, und sie aßen. 4 Aber ehe sie sich legten, kamen die Männer der Stadt Sodom und umgaben das Haus, Jung und Alt, das ganze Volk aus allen Enden, 5 und riefen Lot und sprachen zu ihm: Wo sind die Männer, die zu dir gekommen sind diese Nacht? Gib sie heraus, dass wir ihnen beiwohnen. (Le 18,22; Giudic 19,22; Ro 1,27) 6 Lot ging heraus zu ihnen vor die Tür und schloss die Tür hinter sich zu 7 und sprach: Ach, liebe Brüder, tut nicht so übel! 8 Siehe, ich habe zwei Töchter, die wissen noch von keinem Manne; die will ich euch herausgeben, und dann tut mit ihnen, was euch gefällt; aber diesen Männern tut nichts, denn darum sind sie unter den Schatten meines Dachs gekommen. 9 Sie aber sprachen: Weg mit dir! Und sprachen auch: Du bist der einzige Fremdling hier und willst regieren? Wohlan, wir wollen dich noch übler plagen als jene. Und sie drangen hart ein auf den Mann Lot. Doch als sie hinzuliefen und die Tür aufbrechen wollten, (2P 2,7) 10 griffen die Männer hinaus und zogen Lot herein zu sich ins Haus und schlossen die Tür zu. 11 Und sie schlugen die Leute vor der Tür des Hauses, Klein und Groß, mit Blindheit, sodass sie sich vergebens mühten, die Tür zu finden. (2Re 6,18) 12 Und die Männer sprachen zu Lot: Hast du noch jemanden hier? Einen Schwiegersohn? Deine Söhne und Töchter? Wer noch zu dir gehört in der Stadt, den führe weg von dieser Stätte. 13 Denn wir werden diese Stätte verderben, weil das Geschrei über sie groß ist vor dem HERRN; der hat uns gesandt, sie zu verderben. (Gen 18,20) 14 Da ging Lot hinaus und redete mit den Männern, die seine Töchter heiraten sollten: Macht euch auf und geht aus diesem Ort, denn der HERR wird diese Stadt verderben. Die aber meinten, er scherze. (Nu 16,21) 15 Als nun die Morgenröte aufging, drängten die Engel Lot zur Eile und sprachen: Mach dich auf, nimm deine Frau und deine beiden Töchter, die hier sind, damit du nicht auch umkommst in der Missetat dieser Stadt. 16 Als er aber zögerte, ergriffen die Männer ihn und seine Frau und seine beiden Töchter bei der Hand, weil der HERR ihn verschonen wollte, und führten ihn hinaus und ließen ihn erst draußen vor der Stadt wieder los. 17 Und als sie ihn hinausgebracht hatten, sprach der eine: Rette dein Leben und sieh nicht hinter dich, bleib auch nicht stehen in dieser ganzen Gegend. Auf das Gebirge rette dich, damit du nicht umkommst! (Mat 24,16) 18 Aber Lot sprach zu ihnen: Ach nein, Herr! 19 Siehe, dein Knecht hat Gnade gefunden vor deinen Augen, und du hast deine Barmherzigkeit groß gemacht, die du an mir getan hast, als du mich am Leben erhieltest. Ich kann mich nicht auf das Gebirge retten; es könnte mich sonst das Unheil ereilen, sodass ich stürbe. 20 Siehe, da ist eine Stadt nahe, in die ich fliehen kann, und sie ist klein. Dahin will ich mich retten, dass ich am Leben bleibe. Ist sie nicht klein?^[1] 21 Da sprach er zu ihm: Siehe, ich habe auch darin dich angesehen, dass ich die Stadt nicht zerstöre, von der du geredet hast. 22 Eile und rette dich dahin; denn ich kann nichts tun, bis du hineinkommst. Daher ist diese Stadt Zoar genannt. 23 Und die Sonne war aufgegangen auf Erden, als Lot nach Zoar kam. 24 Da ließ der HERR Schwefel und Feuer regnen vom Himmel herab auf Sodom und Gomorra (De 29,22; Sal 11,6; Is 1,9; Is 13,19; Am 4,11; Lu 17,29; 2P 2,6; Ap 14,10)

25 und vernichtete die Städte und die ganze Gegend und alle Einwohner der Städte und was auf dem Lande gewachsen war. 26 Und Lots Frau sah hinter sich und ward zur Salzsäule. (Lu 17,32) 27 Abraham aber machte sich früh am Morgen auf an den Ort, wo er vor dem HERRN gestanden hatte, 28 und wandte sein Angesicht gegen Sodom und Gomorra und alles Land dieser Gegend und schaute, und siehe, da ging ein Rauch auf vom Lande wie der Rauch von einem Ofen. 29 Und es geschah, als Gott die Städte in der Gegend vernichtete, gedachte er an Abraham und geleitete Lot aus den Städten, die er zerstörte, in denen Lot gewohnt hatte.

Lot und seine Töchter

30 Und Lot zog weg von Zoar und blieb auf dem Gebirge mit seinen beiden Töchtern; denn er fürchtete sich, in Zoar zu bleiben; und so blieb er in einer Höhle mit seinen beiden Töchtern. 31 Da sprach die ältere zu der jüngeren: Unser Vater ist alt und kein Mann ist mehr im Lande, der zu uns eingehen könnte nach aller Welt Weise. 32 So komm, lass uns unserm Vater Wein zu trinken geben und bei ihm schlafen, dass wir uns Nachkommen schaffen von unserm Vater. (Le 18,7) 33 Da gaben sie ihrem Vater Wein zu trinken in derselben Nacht. Und die erste ging hinein und legte sich zu ihrem Vater; und er ward’s nicht gewahr, als sie sich legte noch als sie aufstand. 34 Am Morgen sprach die ältere zu der jüngeren: Siehe, ich habe gestern bei meinem Vater gelegen. Lass uns ihm auch diese Nacht Wein zu trinken geben, dass du hineingehst und dich zu ihm legst, damit wir uns Nachkommen schaffen von unserm Vater. 35 Da gaben sie ihrem Vater auch diese Nacht Wein zu trinken. Und die jüngere machte sich auch auf und legte sich zu ihm; und er ward’s nicht gewahr, als sie sich legte noch als sie aufstand. 36 So wurden die beiden Töchter Lots schwanger von ihrem Vater. 37 Und die ältere gebar einen Sohn, den nannte sie Moab. Von dem kommen her die Moabiter bis auf den heutigen Tag. (De 2,9) 38 Und die jüngere gebar auch einen Sohn, den nannte sie Ben-Ammi. Von dem kommen her die Ammoniter bis auf den heutigen Tag. Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar. 23 The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar. 24 Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven; 25 And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground. 26 But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt. 27 And Abraham gat up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the LORD: 28 And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and, lo, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace. 29 And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelt. 30 And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar: and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters. 31 And the firstborn said unto the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the earth: 32 Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father. 33 And they made their father drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay with her father; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose. 34 And it came to pass on the morrow, that the firstborn said unto the younger, Behold, I lay yesternight with my father: let us make him drink wine this night also; and go thou in, and lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father. 35 And they made their father drink wine that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose. 36 Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father. 37 And the firstborn bare a son, and called his name Moab: the same is the father of the Moabites unto this day. 38 And the younger, she also bare a son, and called his name Benammi: the same is the father of the children of Ammon unto this day.

1 Caía la tarde cuando los dos ángeles llegaron a Sodoma. Lot estaba sentado a la entrada de la ciudad. Al verlos, se levantó para recibirlos y se postró rostro en tierra. 2 Les dijo: —Por favor, señores, les ruego que pasen la noche en la casa de este servidor suyo. Allí podrán lavarse los pies, y mañana al amanecer seguirán su camino. —No, gracias —respondieron ellos—. Pasaremos la noche en la plaza. 3 Pero tanto les insistió Lot que fueron con él y entraron en su casa. Allí Lot les preparó una buena comida y coció panes sin levadura, y ellos comieron. 4 Aún no se habían acostado cuando los hombres de la ciudad de Sodoma rodearon la casa. Todo el pueblo sin excepción, tanto jóvenes como ancianos, estaba allí presente. 5 Llamaron a Lot y le dijeron: —¿Dónde están los hombres que vinieron a pasar la noche en tu casa? ¡Échalos afuera! ¡Queremos acostarnos con ellos! 6 Lot salió a la puerta y, cerrándola detrás de sí, 7 les dijo: —Por favor, amigos míos, no cometan tal perversidad. 8 Tengo dos hijas que todavía son vírgenes; voy a traérselas para que hagan con ellas lo que les plazca, pero a estos hombres no les hagan nada, pues han venido a hospedarse bajo mi techo. 9 —¡Quítate de ahí! —le contestaron, y añadieron—: Éste ni siquiera es de aquí, y ahora nos quiere mandar. ¡Pues ahora te vamos a tratar peor que a ellos! Entonces se lanzaron contra Lot y se acercaron a la puerta con intenciones de derribarla. 10 Pero los dos hombres extendieron los brazos, metieron a Lot en la casa y cerraron la puerta. 11 Luego, a los jóvenes y ancianos que se agolparon contra la puerta de la casa los dejaron ciegos, de modo que ya no podían encontrar la puerta. 12 Luego le advirtieron a Lot: —¿Tienes otros familiares aquí? Saca de esta ciudad a tus yernos, hijos, hijas, y a todos los que te pertenezcan, 13 porque vamos a destruirla. El clamor contra esta gente ha llegado hasta el Señor, y ya resulta insoportable. Por eso nos ha enviado a destruirla. 14 Lot salió para hablar con sus futuros yernos, es decir, con los prometidos de sus hijas. —¡Apúrense! —les dijo—. ¡Abandonen la ciudad, porque el Señor está por destruirla! Pero ellos creían que Lot estaba bromeando, 15 así que al amanecer los ángeles insistieron con Lot. Exclamaron: —¡Apúrate! Llévate a tu esposa y a tus dos hijas que están aquí, para que no perezcan cuando la ciudad sea castigada. 16 Como Lot titubeaba, los hombres lo tomaron de la mano, lo mismo que a su esposa y a sus dos hijas, y los sacaron de la ciudad, porque el Señor les tuvo compasión. 17 Cuando ya los habían sacado de la ciudad, uno de los ángeles le dijo: —¡Escápate! No mires hacia atrás, ni te detengas en ninguna parte del valle. Huye hacia las montañas, no sea que perezcas. 18 —¡No, señor mío, por favor! —respondió Lot—. 19 Tú has visto con buenos ojos a este siervo tuyo, y tu lealtad ha sido grande al salvarme la vida. Pero yo no puedo escaparme a las montañas, no sea que la destrucción me alcance y pierda yo la vida. 20 Cerca de aquí hay una ciudad pequeña, en la que podría refugiarme. ¿Por qué no dejan que me escape hacia allá? Es una ciudad muy pequeña, y en ella me pondré a salvo. 21 —Está bien —le respondió—; también esta petición te la concederé. No destruiré la ciudad de que hablas. 22 Pero date prisa y huye de una vez, porque no puedo hacer nada hasta que llegues allí. Por eso aquella ciudad recibió el nombre de Zoar.^[1] 23 Lot llegó a Zoar cuando estaba amaneciendo. 24 Entonces el Señor hizo que cayera del cielo una lluvia de fuego y azufre sobre Sodoma y Gomorra. 25 Así destruyó a esas ciudades y a todos sus habitantes, junto con toda la llanura y la vegetación del suelo. 26 Pero la esposa de Lot miró hacia atrás, y se quedó convertida en estatua de sal. 27 Al día siguiente Abraham madrugó y regresó al lugar donde se había encontrado con el Señor. 28 Volvió la mirada hacia Sodoma y Gomorra, y hacia toda la llanura, y vio que de la tierra subía humo, como de un horno. 29 Así arrasó Dios a las ciudades de la llanura, pero se acordó de Abraham y sacó a Lot de en medio de la catástrofe que destruyó a las ciudades en que había habitado.

Lot y sus hijas

30 Luego, por miedo a quedarse en Zoar, Lot se fue con sus dos hijas a vivir en la región montañosa. Allí vivió con ellas en una cueva. 31 Un día, la hija mayor le dijo a la menor: —Nuestro padre ya está viejo, y no quedan hombres en esta región para que se casen con nosotras, como es la costumbre de todo el mundo. 32 Ven, vamos a emborracharlo, y nos acostaremos con él; y así, por medio de él tendremos descendencia. 33 Esa misma noche emborracharon a su padre y, sin que éste se diera cuenta de nada, la hija mayor fue y se acostó con él. 34 A la mañana siguiente, la mayor le dijo a la menor: —Mira, anoche me acosté con mi padre. Vamos a emborracharlo de nuevo esta noche, y ahora tú te acostarás con él; y así, por medio de él tendremos descendencia. 35 Esa misma noche volvieron a emborrachar a su padre y, sin que éste se diera cuenta de nada, la hija menor fue y se acostó con él. 36 Así las dos hijas de Lot quedaron embarazadas de su padre. 37 La mayor tuvo un hijo, a quien llamó Moab,^[2] padre de los actuales moabitas. 38 La hija menor también tuvo un hijo, a quien llamó Ben Amí,^[3] padre de los actuales amonitas.
