1 Così furono compiuti i cieli e la terra e tutto l’esercito loro. 2 Il settimo giorno Dio compì l’opera che aveva fatta, e si riposò il settimo giorno da tutta l’opera che aveva fatta. 3 Dio benedisse il settimo giorno e lo santificò, perché in esso Dio si riposò da tutta l’opera che aveva creata e fatta. 4 Queste sono le origini dei cieli e della terra quando furono creati. Nel giorno che Dio il Signore^[1] fece la terra e i cieli, 5 non c’era ancora sulla terra alcun arbusto della campagna. Nessuna erba della campagna era ancora spuntata, perché Dio il Signore non aveva fatto piovere sulla terra, e non c’era alcun uomo per coltivare il suolo; 6 ma un vapore saliva dalla terra e bagnava tutta la superficie del suolo. 7 Dio il Signore formò l’uomo^[2] dalla polvere della terra, gli soffiò nelle narici un alito vitale e l’uomo divenne un’anima vivente. 8 Dio il Signore piantò un giardino in Eden, a oriente, e vi pose l’uomo che aveva formato. 9 Dio il Signore fece spuntare dal suolo ogni sorta di alberi piacevoli a vedersi e buoni per nutrirsi, tra i quali l’albero della vita in mezzo al giardino e l’albero della conoscenza del bene e del male. 10 Un fiume usciva da Eden per irrigare il giardino, e di là si divideva in quattro bracci. 11 Il nome del primo è Pison, ed è quello che circonda tutto il paese di Avila, dove c’è l’oro; 12 e l’oro di quel paese è puro; qui si trovano pure il bdellio^[3] e l’ònice. 13 Il nome del secondo fiume è Ghion, ed è quello che circonda tutto il paese di Cus^[4]. 14 Il nome del terzo fiume è Chiddechel^[5], ed è quello che scorre a oriente dell’Assiria. Il quarto fiume è l’Eufrate. 15 Dio il Signore prese dunque l’uomo e lo pose nel giardino di Eden perché lo lavorasse e lo custodisse. 16 Dio il Signore ordinò all’uomo: «Mangia pure da ogni albero del giardino, 17 ma dell’albero della conoscenza del bene e del male non ne mangiare; perché nel giorno che tu ne mangerai, certamente morirai». 18 Poi Dio il Signore disse: «Non è bene che l’uomo sia solo; io gli farò un aiuto che sia adatto a lui». 19 Dio il Signore, avendo formato dalla terra tutti gli animali dei campi e tutti gli uccelli del cielo, li condusse all’uomo per vedere come li avrebbe chiamati, e perché ogni essere vivente portasse il nome che l’uomo gli avrebbe dato. 20 L’uomo diede dei nomi a tutto il bestiame, agli uccelli del cielo e ad ogni animale dei campi; ma per l’uomo non si trovò un aiuto che fosse adatto a lui. 21 Allora Dio il Signore fece cadere un profondo sonno sull’uomo, che si addormentò; prese una delle costole di lui e richiuse la carne al posto d’essa. 22 Dio il Signore, con la costola che aveva tolta all’uomo, formò una donna e la condusse all’uomo. 23 L’uomo disse: «Questa, finalmente, è ossa delle mie ossa e carne della mia carne. Ella sarà chiamata donna^[6] perché è stata tratta dall’uomo». 24 Perciò l’uomo lascerà suo padre e sua madre e si unirà a sua moglie, e saranno una stessa carne. 25 L’uomo e sua moglie erano entrambi nudi e non ne avevano vergogna.

Der Garten Eden

4 Dies ist die Geschichte von Himmel und Erde, da sie geschaffen wurden. Es war zu der Zeit, da Gott der HERR Erde und Himmel machte. 5 Und alle die Sträucher auf dem Felde waren noch nicht auf Erden, und all das Kraut auf dem Felde war noch nicht gewachsen. Denn Gott der HERR hatte noch nicht regnen lassen auf Erden, und kein Mensch^[1] war da, der das Land bebaute; 6 aber ein Strom stieg aus der Erde empor und tränkte alles Land. 7 Da machte Gott der HERR den Menschen aus Staub von der Erde und blies ihm den Odem des Lebens in seine Nase. Und so ward der Mensch ein lebendiges Wesen. (Gen 3,19; Giob 10,9; Giob 33,4; Sal 104,29; 1Co 15,45; 1Co 15,47)

8 Und Gott der HERR pflanzte einen Garten in Eden gegen Osten hin und setzte den Menschen hinein, den er gemacht hatte. 9 Und Gott der HERR ließ aufwachsen aus der Erde allerlei Bäume, verlockend anzusehen und gut zu essen, und den Baum des Lebens mitten im Garten und den Baum der Erkenntnis des Guten und Bösen. (Gen 3,22; Ap 2,7; Ap 22,2) 10 Und es geht aus von Eden ein Strom, den Garten zu bewässern, und teilt sich von da in vier Hauptarme. (Ez 47,1) 11 Der erste heißt Pischon, der fließt um das ganze Land Hawila und dort findet man Gold; 12 und das Gold des Landes ist kostbar. Auch findet man da Bedolachharz und den Edelstein Schoham. 13 Der zweite Strom heißt Gihon, der fließt um das ganze Land Kusch. 14 Der dritte Strom heißt Tigris, der fließt östlich von Assyrien. Der vierte Strom ist der Euphrat. 15 Und Gott der HERR nahm den Menschen und setzte ihn in den Garten Eden, dass er ihn bebaute und bewahrte. 16 Und Gott der HERR gebot dem Menschen und sprach: Du darfst essen von allen Bäumen im Garten, 17 aber von dem Baum der Erkenntnis des Guten und Bösen sollst du nicht essen; denn an dem Tage, da du von ihm isst, musst du des Todes sterben. (Ro 6,23) 18 Und Gott der HERR sprach: Es ist nicht gut, dass der Mensch allein sei; ich will ihm eine Hilfe machen, die ihm entspricht. (Gen 23,1; Ec 4,10) 19 Und Gott der HERR machte aus Erde alle die Tiere auf dem Felde und alle die Vögel unter dem Himmel und brachte sie zu dem Menschen, dass er sähe, wie er sie nennte; denn wie der Mensch jedes Tier nennen würde, so sollte es heißen. 20 Und der Mensch gab einem jeden Vieh und Vogel unter dem Himmel und Tier auf dem Felde seinen Namen; aber für den Menschen wurde keine Hilfe gefunden, die ihm entsprach. 21 Da ließ Gott der HERR einen tiefen Schlaf fallen auf den Menschen, und er schlief ein. Und er nahm eine seiner Rippen und schloss die Stelle mit Fleisch. 22 Und Gott der HERR baute eine Frau aus der Rippe, die er von dem Menschen nahm, und brachte sie zu ihm. 23 Da sprach der Mensch: Die ist nun Bein von meinem Bein und Fleisch von meinem Fleisch; man wird sie Männin nennen, weil sie vom Manne genommen ist.^[2] 24 Darum wird ein Mann seinen Vater und seine Mutter verlassen und seiner Frau anhangen, und sie werden sein ein Fleisch. 5 aún no había ningún arbusto del campo sobre la tierra, ni había brotado la hierba, porque Dios el Señor todavía no había hecho llover sobre la tierra ni existía el hombre para que la cultivara. 6 No obstante, salía de la tierra un manantial que regaba toda la superficie del suelo. 7 Y Dios el Señor formó al hombre^[2] del polvo de la tierra, y sopló en su nariz hálito de vida, y el hombre se convirtió en un ser viviente. 8 Dios el Señor plantó un jardín al oriente del Edén, y allí puso al hombre que había formado. 9 Dios el Señor hizo que creciera toda clase de árboles hermosos, los cuales daban frutos buenos y apetecibles. En medio del jardín hizo crecer el árbol de la vida y también el árbol del conocimiento del bien y del mal. 10 Del Edén nacía un río que regaba el jardín, y que desde allí se dividía en cuatro ríos menores. 11 El primero se llamaba Pisón, y recorría toda la región de Javilá, donde había oro. 12 El oro de esa región era fino, y también había allí resina muy buena y piedra de ónice. 13 El segundo se llamaba Guijón, que recorría toda la región de Cus.^[3] 14 El tercero se llamaba Tigris, que corría al este de Asiria. El cuarto era el Éufrates. 15 Dios el Señor tomó al hombre y lo puso en el jardín del Edén para que lo cultivara y lo cuidara, 16 y le dio este mandato: «Puedes comer de todos los árboles del jardín, 17 pero del árbol del conocimiento del bien y del mal no deberás comer. El día que de él comas, ciertamente morirás.» 18 Luego Dios el Señor dijo: «No es bueno que el hombre esté solo. Voy a hacerle una ayuda adecuada.» 19 Entonces Dios el Señor formó de la tierra toda ave del cielo y todo animal del campo, y se los llevó al hombre para ver qué nombre les pondría. El hombre les puso nombre a todos los seres vivos, y con ese nombre se les conoce. 20 Así el hombre fue poniéndoles nombre a todos los animales domésticos, a todas las aves del cielo y a todos los animales del campo. Sin embargo, no se encontró entre ellos la ayuda adecuada para el hombre. 21 Entonces Dios el Señor hizo que el hombre cayera en un sueño profundo y, mientras éste dormía, le sacó una costilla y le cerró la herida. 22 De la costilla que le había quitado al hombre, Dios el Señor hizo una mujer y se la presentó al hombre, 23 el cual exclamó: «Ésta sí es hueso de mis huesos y carne de mi carne. Se llamará “mujer”^[4] porque del hombre fue sacada.» 24 Por eso el hombre deja a su padre y a su madre, y se une a su mujer, y los dos se funden en un solo ser.^[5] 25 En ese tiempo el hombre y la mujer estaban desnudos, pero ninguno de los dos sentía vergüenza.
