Conferma della nascita d’Isacco

1 Il Signore apparve ad Abraamo alle querce di Mamre, mentre egli sedeva all’ingresso della sua tenda nell’ora più calda del giorno. 2 Abraamo alzò gli occhi e vide che tre uomini stavano davanti a lui. Come li ebbe visti, corse loro incontro dall’ingresso della tenda, si prostrò fino a terra e disse: 3 «Ti prego, mio Signore, se ho trovato grazia ai tuoi occhi, non passare oltre senza fermarti dal tuo servo! 4 Lasciate che si porti un po’ d’acqua, lavatevi i piedi e riposatevi sotto quest’albero. 5 Io andrò a prendere del pane e vi ristorerete; poi continuerete il vostro cammino; poiché è per questo che siete passati dal vostro servo». Quelli dissero: «Fa’ pure come hai detto». 6 Allora Abraamo andò in fretta nella tenda da Sara e le disse: «Prendi subito tre misure di fior di farina, impastala e fa’ delle focacce». 7 Poi Abraamo corse alla mandria, prese un vitello tenero e buono e lo diede a un suo servo, il quale si affrettò a prepararlo. 8 Prese del burro, del latte e il vitello che era stato preparato, e li pose davanti a loro. Egli se ne stette in piedi presso di loro, sotto l’albero, e quelli mangiarono. 9 Poi essi gli dissero: «Dov’è Sara, tua moglie?» Ed egli rispose: «È là nella tenda». 10 E l’altro: «Tornerò certamente da te fra un anno; allora Sara, tua moglie, avrà un figlio». Sara intanto stava ad ascoltare all’ingresso della tenda, che era dietro di lui. 11 Abraamo e Sara erano vecchi, ben avanti negli anni, e Sara non aveva più i corsi ordinari delle donne. 12 Sara rise dentro di sé, dicendo: «Vecchia come sono, dovrei avere tali piaceri? Anche il mio signore è vecchio!» 13 Il Signore disse ad Abraamo: «Perché mai ha riso Sara, dicendo: “Partorirei io per davvero, vecchia come sono?” 14 Vi è forse qualcosa che sia troppo difficile per il Signore? Al tempo fissato, l’anno prossimo, tornerò e Sara avrà un figlio». 15 Allora Sara negò, dicendo: «Non ho riso»; perché ebbe paura. Ma egli disse: «Invece hai riso!»

Intercessione di Abraamo in favore di Sodoma

16 Poi quegli uomini si alzarono e volsero gli sguardi verso Sodoma; e Abraamo andò con loro per congedarli. 17 Il Signore disse: «Dovrei forse nascondere ad Abraamo quanto sto per fare, 18 dato che Abraamo deve diventare una nazione grande e potente e in lui saranno benedette tutte le nazioni della terra? 19 Infatti, io l’ho prescelto perché ordini ai suoi figli, e alla sua casa dopo di lui, che seguano la via del Signore per praticare la giustizia e il diritto, affinché il Signore compia in favore di Abraamo quello che gli ha promesso». 20 Il Signore disse: «Siccome il grido che sale da Sodoma e Gomorra è grande e siccome il loro peccato è molto grave, 21 io scenderò e vedrò se hanno veramente agito secondo il grido che è giunto fino a me; e, se così non è, lo saprò». 22 Quegli uomini partirono di là e si avviarono verso Sodoma; ma Abraamo rimase ancora davanti al Signore. 23 Abraamo gli si avvicinò e disse: «Farai dunque perire il giusto insieme con l’empio? 24 Forse ci sono cinquanta giusti nella città; davvero farai perire anche quelli? Non perdonerai a quel luogo per amore dei cinquanta giusti che vi sono? 25 Non sia mai che tu faccia una cosa simile! Far morire il giusto con l’empio, in modo che il giusto sia trattato come l’empio! Non sia mai! Il giudice di tutta la terra non farà forse giustizia?» 26 Il Signore disse: «Se trovo nella città di Sodoma cinquanta giusti, perdonerò a tutto il luogo per amor di loro». 27 Abraamo riprese e disse: «Ecco, prendo l’ardire di parlare al Signore, benché io non sia che polvere e cenere. 28 Forse, a quei cinquanta giusti ne mancheranno cinque; distruggerai tutta la città per cinque di meno?» E il Signore: «Se ve ne trovo quarantacinque, non la distruggerò». 29 Abraamo continuò a parlargli e disse: «Forse se ne troveranno quaranta». E il Signore: «Non lo farò, per amore dei quaranta». 30 Abraamo disse: «Non si adiri il Signore e io parlerò. Forse se ne troveranno trenta». E il Signore: «Non lo farò, se ne trovo trenta». 31 Abraamo disse: «Ecco, prendo l’ardire di parlare al Signore. Forse se ne troveranno venti». E il Signore: «Non la distruggerò per amore di venti». 32 Abraamo disse: «Non si adiri il Signore, e io parlerò ancora questa volta soltanto. Forse se ne troveranno dieci». E il Signore: «Non la distruggerò per amore dei dieci». 33 Quando il Signore ebbe finito di parlare ad Abraamo, se ne andò. E Abraamo ritornò alla sua abitazione.

Der Herr bei Abraham und Sara in Mamre

1 Und der HERR erschien ihm im Hain Mamre, während er an der Tür seines Zeltes saß, als der Tag am heißesten war. 2 Und als er seine Augen aufhob und sah, siehe, da standen drei Männer vor ihm. Und als er sie sah, lief er ihnen entgegen von der Tür seines Zeltes und neigte sich zur Erde (Eb 13,2) 3 und sprach: Herr, hab ich Gnade gefunden vor deinen Augen, so geh nicht an deinem Knecht vorüber. 4 Man soll euch ein wenig Wasser bringen, eure Füße zu waschen, und lasst euch nieder unter dem Baum. 5 Und ich will euch einen Bissen Brot bringen, dass ihr euer Herz labt; danach mögt ihr weiterziehen. Denn darum seid ihr bei eurem Knecht vorübergekommen. Sie sprachen: Tu, wie du gesagt hast. 6 Abraham eilte in das Zelt zu Sara und sprach: Eile und menge drei Maß feines Mehl, knete und backe Brote. 7 Er aber lief zu den Rindern und holte ein zartes, gutes Kalb und gab’s dem Knechte; der eilte und bereitete es zu. 8 Und er trug Butter und Milch auf und von dem Kalbe, das er zubereitet hatte, und setzte es ihnen vor und blieb stehen vor ihnen unter dem Baum, und sie aßen. 9 Da sprachen sie zu ihm: Wo ist Sara, deine Frau? Er antwortete: Drinnen im Zelt. 10 Da sprach er: Ich will wieder zu dir kommen übers Jahr; siehe, dann soll Sara, deine Frau, einen Sohn haben. Das hörte Sara hinter ihm, hinter der Tür des Zeltes. (Gen 17,19; Ro 9,9) 11 Und sie waren beide, Abraham und Sara, alt und hochbetagt, sodass es Sara nicht mehr ging nach der Frauen Weise. 12 Darum lachte sie bei sich selbst und sprach: Nun, da ich alt bin, soll ich noch Liebeslust erfahren, und auch mein Herr ist alt! (Gen 17,17; 1P 3,6) 13 Da sprach der HERR zu Abraham: Warum lacht Sara und spricht: Sollte ich wirklich noch gebären, nun, da ich alt bin? 14 Sollte dem HERRN etwas unmöglich sein? Um diese Zeit will ich wieder zu dir kommen übers Jahr; dann soll Sara einen Sohn haben. (Mat 19,26; Lu 1,37) 15 Da leugnete Sara und sprach: Ich habe nicht gelacht –, denn sie fürchtete sich. Aber er sprach: Es ist nicht so, du hast gelacht.

Abrahams Fürbitte für Sodom

16 Da brachen die Männer auf und wandten sich nach Sodom, und Abraham ging mit ihnen, um sie zu geleiten. 17 Da sprach der HERR: Wie könnte ich Abraham verbergen, was ich tun will, (Am 3,7) 18 da er doch ein großes und mächtiges Volk werden soll und alle Völker auf Erden in ihm gesegnet werden sollen? (Gen 12,3) 19 Denn dazu habe ich ihn auserkoren, dass er seinen Kindern befehle und seinem Hause nach ihm, dass sie des HERRN Wege halten und tun, was recht und gut ist, auf dass der HERR auf Abraham kommen lasse, was er ihm verheißen hat. (De 6,7; De 32,46) 20 Und der HERR sprach: Es ist ein großes Geschrei über Sodom und Gomorra, denn ihre Sünden sind sehr schwer. (Gen 19,13) 21 Darum will ich hinabfahren und sehen, ob sie alles getan haben nach dem Geschrei, das vor mich gekommen ist, oder ob’s nicht so sei, damit ich’s wisse. 22 Und die Männer wandten ihr Angesicht und gingen nach Sodom. Aber Abraham blieb stehen vor dem HERRN 23 und trat herzu und sprach: Willst du denn den Gerechten mit dem Gottlosen umbringen? (Nu 16,22) 24 Es könnten vielleicht fünfzig Gerechte in der Stadt sein; wolltest du die umbringen und dem Ort nicht vergeben um fünfzig Gerechter willen, die darin wären? 25 Das sei ferne von dir, dass du das tust und tötest den Gerechten mit dem Gottlosen, sodass der Gerechte wäre gleich wie der Gottlose! Das sei ferne von dir! Sollte der Richter aller Welt nicht gerecht richten? (Sal 82,1; Sal 94,2) 26 Der HERR sprach: Finde ich fünfzig Gerechte zu Sodom in der Stadt, so will ich um ihretwillen dem ganzen Ort vergeben. (Is 65,8; Mat 24,22) 27 Abraham antwortete und sprach: Ach siehe, ich habe mich unterwunden, zu reden mit dem Herrn, wiewohl ich Erde und Asche bin. 28 Es könnten vielleicht fünf weniger als fünfzig Gerechte darin sein; wolltest du denn die ganze Stadt verderben um der fünf willen? Er sprach: Finde ich darin fünfundvierzig, so will ich sie nicht verderben. 29 Und er fuhr fort mit ihm zu reden und sprach: Man könnte vielleicht vierzig darin finden. Er aber sprach: Ich will ihnen nichts tun um der vierzig willen. 30 Abraham sprach: Zürne nicht, Herr, dass ich noch mehr rede. Man könnte vielleicht dreißig darin finden. Er aber sprach: Finde ich dreißig darin, so will ich ihnen nichts tun. 31 Und er sprach: Ach siehe, ich habe mich unterwunden, mit dem Herrn zu reden. Man könnte vielleicht zwanzig darin finden. Er antwortete: Ich will sie nicht verderben um der zwanzig willen. 32 Und er sprach: Ach, zürne nicht, Herr, dass ich nur noch einmal rede. Man könnte vielleicht zehn darin finden. Er aber sprach: Ich will sie nicht verderben um der zehn willen. (Giudic 6,39) 33 Und der HERR ging weg, nachdem er aufgehört hatte, mit Abraham zu reden; und Abraham kehrte wieder um an seinen Ort.

1 And the LORD appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day; 2 And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw them , he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground, 3 And said, My Lord, if now I have found favour in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant: 4 Let a little water, I pray you, be fetched, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree: 5 And I will fetch a morsel of bread, and comfort ye your hearts; after that ye shall pass on: for therefore are ye come to your servant. And they said, So do, as thou hast said. 6 And Abraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah, and said, Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal, knead it , and make cakes upon the hearth. 7 And Abraham ran unto the herd, and fetcht a calf tender and good, and gave it unto a young man; and he hasted to dress it. 8 And he took butter, and milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree, and they did eat. 9 And they said unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent. 10 And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him. 11 Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age; and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women. 12 Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also? 13 And the LORD said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old? 14 Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son. 15 Then Sarah denied, saying, I laughed not; for she was afraid. And he said, Nay; but thou didst laugh. 16 And the men rose up from thence, and looked toward Sodom: and Abraham went with them to bring them on the way. 17 And the LORD said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do; 18 Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? 19 For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him. 20 And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous; 21 I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know. 22 And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before the LORD. 23 And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked? 24 Peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein? 25 That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right? 26 And the LORD said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes. 27 And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord, which am but dust and ashes: 28 Peradventure there shall lack five of the fifty righteous: wilt thou destroy all the city for lack of five? And he said, If I find there forty and five, I will not destroy it . 29 And he spake unto him yet again, and said, Peradventure there shall be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for forty' sake. 30 And he said unto him , Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak: Peradventure there shall thirty be found there. And he said, I will not do it , if I find thirty there. 31 And he said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord: Peradventure there shall be twenty found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for twenty' sake. 32 And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten' sake. 33 And the LORD went his way, as soon as he had left communing with Abraham: and Abraham returned unto his place.

La visita del Señor

1 El Señor se le apareció a Abraham junto al encinar de Mamré, cuando Abraham estaba sentado a la entrada de su carpa, a la hora más calurosa del día. 2 Abraham alzó la vista, y vio a tres hombres de pie cerca de él. Al verlos, corrió desde la entrada de la carpa a saludarlos. Inclinándose hasta el suelo, 3 dijo: —Mi señor, si este servidor suyo cuenta con su favor, le ruego que no me pase de largo. 4 Haré que les traigan un poco de agua para que ustedes se laven los pies, y luego podrán descansar bajo el árbol. 5 Ya que han pasado por donde está su servidor, déjenme traerles algo de comer para que se sientan mejor antes de seguir su camino. —¡Está bien —respondieron ellos—, hazlo así! 6 Abraham fue rápidamente a la carpa donde estaba Sara, y le dijo: —¡Date prisa! Toma unos veinte kilos^[1] de harina fina, amásalos y haz unos panes. 7 Después Abraham fue corriendo adonde estaba el ganado, eligió un ternero bueno y tierno, y se lo dio a su sirviente, quien a toda prisa se puso a prepararlo. 8 Luego les sirvió requesón y leche con el ternero que estaba preparado. Mientras comían, Abraham se quedó de pie junto a ellos, debajo del árbol. 9 Entonces ellos le preguntaron: —¿Dónde está Sara, tu esposa? —Allí en la carpa —les respondió. 10 —Dentro de un año volveré a verte —dijo uno de ellos—, y para entonces tu esposa Sara tendrá un hijo. Sara estaba escuchando a la entrada de la carpa, a espaldas del que hablaba. 11 Abraham y Sara eran ya bastante ancianos, y Sara ya había dejado de menstruar. 12 Por eso, Sara se rió y pensó: «¿Acaso voy a tener este placer, ahora que ya estoy consumida y mi esposo es tan viejo?» 13 Pero el Señor le dijo a Abraham: —¿Por qué se ríe Sara? ¿No cree que podrá tener un hijo en su vejez? 14 ¿Acaso hay algo imposible para el Señor? El año que viene volveré a visitarte en esta fecha, y para entonces Sara habrá tenido un hijo. 15 Sara, por su parte, tuvo miedo y mintió al decirle: —Yo no me estaba riendo. Pero el Señor le replicó: —Sí te reíste.

Abraham intercede en favor de Sodoma

16 Luego aquellos visitantes se levantaron y partieron de allí en dirección a Sodoma. Abraham los acompañó para despedirlos. 17 Pero el Señor estaba pensando: «¿Le ocultaré a Abraham lo que estoy por hacer? 18 Es un hecho que Abraham se convertirá en una nación grande y poderosa, y en él serán bendecidas todas las naciones de la tierra. 19 Yo lo he elegido para que instruya a sus hijos y a su familia, a fin de que se mantengan en el camino del Señor y pongan en práctica lo que es justo y recto. Así el Señor cumplirá lo que le ha prometido.» 20 Entonces el Señor le dijo a Abraham: —El clamor contra Sodoma y Gomorra resulta ya insoportable, y su pecado es gravísimo. 21 Por eso bajaré, a ver si realmente sus acciones son tan malas como el clamor contra ellas me lo indica; y si no, he de saberlo. 22 Dos de los visitantes partieron de allí y se encaminaron a Sodoma, pero Abraham se quedó de pie frente al Señor. 23 Entonces se acercó al Señor y le dijo: —¿De veras vas a exterminar al justo junto con el malvado? 24 Quizá haya cincuenta justos en la ciudad. ¿Exterminarás a todos, y no perdonarás a ese lugar por amor a los cincuenta justos que allí hay? 25 ¡Lejos de ti el hacer tal cosa! ¿Matar al justo junto con el malvado, y que ambos sean tratados de la misma manera? ¡Jamás hagas tal cosa! Tú, que eres el Juez de toda la tierra, ¿no harás justicia? 26 El Señor le respondió: —Si encuentro cincuenta justos en Sodoma, por ellos perdonaré a toda la ciudad. 27 Abraham le dijo: —Reconozco que he sido muy atrevido al dirigirme a mi Señor, yo, que apenas soy polvo y ceniza. 28 Pero tal vez falten cinco justos para completar los cincuenta. ¿Destruirás a toda la ciudad si faltan esos cinco? —Si encuentro cuarenta y cinco justos no la destruiré —contestó el Señor. 29 Pero Abraham insistió: —Tal vez se encuentren sólo cuarenta. —Por esos cuarenta justos, no destruiré la ciudad —respondió el Señor. 30 Abraham volvió a insistir: —No se enoje mi Señor, pero permítame seguir hablando. Tal vez se encuentren sólo treinta. —No lo haré si encuentro allí a esos treinta —contestó el Señor. 31 Abraham siguió insistiendo: —Sé que he sido muy atrevido en hablarle así a mi Señor, pero tal vez se encuentren sólo veinte. —Por esos veinte no la destruiré. 32 Abraham volvió a decir: —No se enoje mi Señor, pero permítame hablar una vez más. Tal vez se encuentren sólo diez... —Aun por esos diez no la destruiré —respondió el Señor por última vez. 33 Cuando el Señor terminó de hablar con Abraham, se fue de allí, y Abraham regresó a su carpa.
