di Società Biblica di Ginevra1Cristo ci ha liberati perché fossimo liberi; state dunque saldi e non vi lasciate porre di nuovo sotto il giogo della schiavitù.2Ecco, io, Paolo, vi dichiaro che se vi fate circoncidere, Cristo non vi gioverà a nulla.3Dichiaro di nuovo: ogni uomo che si fa circoncidere è obbligato a osservare tutta la legge.4Voi che volete essere giustificati dalla legge siete separati da Cristo; siete scaduti dalla grazia.5Poiché quanto a noi, è in spirito, per fede, che aspettiamo la speranza della giustizia.6Infatti, in Cristo Gesù non ha valore né la circoncisione né l’incirconcisione; quello che vale è la fede che opera per mezzo dell’amore.7Voi correvate bene; chi vi ha fermati perché non ubbidiate alla verità?8Una tale persuasione non viene da colui che vi chiama.9Un po’ di lievito fa lievitare tutta la pasta.10Riguardo a voi, io ho questa fiducia nel Signore, che non la penserete diversamente; ma colui che vi turba ne subirà la condanna, chiunque egli sia.11Quanto a me, fratelli, se io predico ancora la circoncisione, perché sono ancora perseguitato? Lo scandalo della croce sarebbe allora tolto via.12Si facciano pure evirare quelli che vi turbano!
La carne e lo Spirito
13Perché, fratelli, voi siete stati chiamati a libertà; soltanto non fate della libertà un’occasione per vivere secondo la carne, ma per mezzo dell’amore servite gli uni agli altri;14poiché tutta la legge è adempiuta in quest’unica parola: «Ama il tuo prossimo come te stesso»[1].15Ma se vi mordete e divorate gli uni gli altri, guardate di non essere consumati gli uni dagli altri.16Io dico: camminate secondo lo Spirito e non adempirete affatto i desideri della carne.17Perché la carne ha desideri contrari allo Spirito e lo Spirito ha desideri contrari alla carne; sono cose opposte tra di loro, in modo che non potete fare quello che vorreste.18Ma se siete guidati dallo Spirito, non siete sotto la legge.19Ora le opere della carne sono manifeste, e sono: fornicazione, impurità, dissolutezza,20idolatria, stregoneria, inimicizie, discordia, gelosia, ire, contese, divisioni, sètte,21invidie, ubriachezze, orge e altre simili cose; circa le quali, come vi ho già detto, vi preavviso: chi fa tali cose non erediterà il regno di Dio.22Il frutto dello Spirito invece è amore, gioia, pace, pazienza, benevolenza, bontà, fedeltà, mansuetudine, autocontrollo;23contro queste cose non c’è legge.24Quelli che sono di Cristo {Gesù} hanno crocifisso la carne con le sue passioni e i suoi desideri.25Se viviamo per lo Spirito, camminiamo altresì per lo Spirito.26Non siamo vanagloriosi, provocandoci e invidiandoci gli uni gli altri.

Keep in Step with the Spirit
16But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. (Ro 8,4; Ro 13,14; Ga 5,24; Ef 2,3)17For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. 1Durch Christus sind wir frei geworden, damit wir als Befreite leben. Jetzt kommt es darauf an, dass ihr euch nicht wieder vom Gesetz versklaven lasst.2Ich, Paulus, sage euch deshalb in aller Deutlichkeit: Wenn ihr euch beschneiden lasst, wird alles nutzlos sein, was Christus für euch getan hat.3Und noch einmal erkläre ich jedem Einzelnen von euch: Wer sich beschneiden lässt, der muss das ganze Gesetz mit allen seinen Forderungen befolgen.4Wenn ihr aber durch das Gesetz vor Gott bestehen wollt, dann habt ihr euch von Christus losgesagt und Gottes Gnade verspielt.5Wir aber vertrauen darauf, dass wir durch den Glauben an Jesus Christus von Gott angenommen werden. Er hat uns ja durch seinen Geist diese Hoffnung geschenkt.[1]6Wenn wir mit Jesus Christus verbunden sind, ist es völlig gleich, ob wir beschnitten oder unbeschnitten sind. Bei ihm gilt allein der Glaube, der sich in Taten der Liebe zeigt.7Ihr wart doch auf einem so guten Weg! Wer hat euch nur davon abgebracht, so dass ihr der Wahrheit nicht mehr folgen wollt?8Gott bestimmt nicht! Er ist es ja, der euch berufen hat!9Wie ihr wisst, genügt schon ein wenig Sauerteig, um den ganzen Teig zu durchsäuern.10Weil ich dem Herrn vertraue, bin ich zuversichtlich, dass ihr in dieser Frage mit mir übereinstimmen werdet. Wer euch aber im Glauben durcheinanderbringt, wird seiner Strafe nicht entgehen, wer er auch sein mag.11Liebe Brüder und Schwestern! Manche Leute behaupten, ich selbst würde alle Christen dazu drängen, sich beschneiden zu lassen. Würden mich die Juden dann aber noch verfolgen? Dann brauchte auch niemand mehr Anstoß daran zu nehmen, dass unsere Rettung allein durch Jesus und seinen Tod am Kreuz kommt.12Wenn diesen Unruhestiftern die Beschneidung so wichtig ist, dann sollen sie sich doch gleich kastrieren lassen!
Leben unter der Führung des Heiligen Geistes
13Durch Christus seid ihr dazu berufen, frei zu sein, liebe Brüder und Schwestern! Aber benutzt diese Freiheit nicht als Deckmantel, um eurem alten selbstsüchtigen Wesen nachzugeben. Dient vielmehr einander in Liebe.14Denn wer dieses eine Gebot befolgt: »Liebe deinen Mitmenschen wie dich selbst!«, der hat das ganze Gesetz erfüllt. (Le 19,18)15Wenn ihr aber wie wilde Tiere übereinander herfallt, dann passt nur auf, dass ihr euch dabei nicht gegenseitig fresst!16Darum sage ich euch: Lasst euer Leben von Gottes Geist bestimmen. Wenn er euch führt, werdet ihr allen selbstsüchtigen Wünschen widerstehen können.17Denn eigensüchtig wie unsere menschliche Natur ist, will sie immer das Gegenteil von dem, was Gottes Geist will. Doch der Geist Gottes duldet unsere Selbstsucht nicht. Beide kämpfen gegeneinander, so dass ihr das Gute, das ihr doch eigentlich wollt, nicht ungehindert tun könnt.18Wenn ihr euch aber von Gottes Geist regieren lasst, seid ihr den Forderungen des Gesetzes nicht länger unterworfen.19Gebt ihr dagegen eurer alten menschlichen Natur nach, ist offensichtlich, wohin das führt: zu sexueller Unmoral, einem sittenlosen und ausschweifenden Leben,20zur Götzenanbetung und zu abergläubischem Vertrauen auf übersinnliche Kräfte. Feindseligkeit, Streit, Eifersucht, Wutausbrüche, hässliche Auseinandersetzungen, Uneinigkeit und Spaltungen bestimmen dann das Leben21ebenso wie Neid, Trunksucht, Fressgelage und ähnliche Dinge. Ich habe es schon oft gesagt und warne euch hier noch einmal: Wer so lebt, wird niemals in Gottes Reich kommen.22Dagegen bringt der Geist Gottes in unserem Leben nur Gutes hervor: Liebe, Freude und Frieden; Geduld, Freundlichkeit und Güte; Treue,23Nachsicht und Selbstbeherrschung. Ist das bei euch so? Dann kann kein Gesetz mehr etwas von euch fordern![2]24Es ist wahr: Wer zu Jesus Christus gehört, der hat sein selbstsüchtiges Wesen mit allen Leidenschaften und Begierden ans Kreuz geschlagen.25Durch Gottes Geist haben wir neues Leben, darum wollen wir uns jetzt ganz von ihm bestimmen lassen!26Prahlen wir also nicht mit unseren vermeintlichen Vorzügen, denn dadurch rufen wir nur Kränkungen und Neid hervor.
