Futilità delle ricchezze

1 Al direttore del coro. Dei figli di Core. Salmo. Ascoltate, popoli tutti; porgete orecchio, abitanti del mondo, 2 plebei e nobili, ricchi e poveri tutti insieme. 3 La mia bocca dirà parole sagge, il mio cuore mediterà pensieri intelligenti. 4 Io presterò orecchio a un proverbio, canterò sulla cetra il mio enigma. 5 Perché temere nei giorni funesti, quando mi circonda la malvagità dei miei avversari? 6 Essi hanno fiducia nei loro beni e si vantano della loro grande ricchezza, 7 ma nessun uomo può riscattare il fratello, né pagare a Dio il prezzo del suo riscatto. 8 Il riscatto dell’anima sua è troppo alto e il denaro sarà sempre insufficiente, 9 perché essa viva in eterno ed eviti di vedere la tomba. 10 Infatti la vedrà: i sapienti muoiono; lo stolto e l’ignorante periscono tutti e lasciano ad altri le loro ricchezze. 11 Pensano che le loro case dureranno per sempre e che le loro abitazioni siano eterne; perciò danno i loro nomi alle terre. 12 Ma anche tenuto in grande onore, l’uomo non dura; egli è simile alle bestie che periscono. 13 Questo loro modo di comportarsi è follia; eppure i loro successori approvano i loro discorsi. [Pausa] 14 Sono cacciati come pecore nel soggiorno dei morti; la morte è il loro pastore; e al mattino gli uomini retti li calpestano. La loro gloria deve consumarsi nel soggiorno dei morti e non avrà altra dimora. 15 Ma Dio riscatterà l’anima mia dal potere del soggiorno dei morti, perché mi prenderà con sé. [Pausa] 16 Non temere se uno si arricchisce, se aumenta la gloria della sua casa. 17 Perché, quando morrà, non porterà nulla con sé; la sua gloria non scenderà con lui. 18 Benché tu, mentre vivi, ti ritenga felice e la gente ti ammiri per i tuoi successi, 19 tu te ne andrai con la generazione dei tuoi padri, che non vedranno mai più la luce. 20 L’uomo che vive tra gli onori e non ha intelligenza è simile alle bestie che periscono.

(Sal 42,1) 2 Hört dies, ihr Völker alle; nehmt es zu Ohren, alle Bewohner der Welt; (Mi 1,2) 3 Söhne der Einfachen wie der Vornehmen^[1], Reiche und Arme miteinander! (Sal 4,3) 4 Mein Mund soll Weisheit reden, und das Sinnen meines Herzens ist Einsicht. 5 Mein Ohr will ich zu einem Spruch neigen, mein Rätsel auflösen zur Zither. (Sal 78,2) 6 Warum sollte ich mich fürchten in Tagen des Übels, wenn die Sünde derer, die mich hintergehen^[2], mich umringt? (Sal 56,5; Sal 112,7) 7 Sie vertrauen auf ihr Vermögen und rühmen sich der Größe ihres Reichtums. (Ger 9,22; Mar 10,24) 8 Niemals kann ein Mann seinen Bruder^[3] loskaufen, nicht kann er Gott sein Lösegeld geben – 9 denn ⟨zu⟩ kostbar ist das Kaufgeld für ihre Seele, und er muss davon ablassen auf ewig –, (Mat 16,26) 10 dass er fortlebe immer, die Grube nicht sieht. (Sal 89,49) 11 Denn man sieht: die Weisen sterben, der Tor und der Unvernünftige kommen miteinander um, und sie lassen anderen ihr Vermögen. (Sal 39,7) 12 ^[4] Ihr Gedanke ⟨ist⟩, ⟨dass⟩ ihre Häuser in Ewigkeit ⟨stehen⟩, ihre Wohnung von Generation zu Generation^[5]; sie hatten Ländereien nach ihren Namen benannt. 13 Doch der Mensch, der im Ansehen ist, bleibt nicht^[6]; er gleicht dem Vieh, das umkommt. (Ec 3,19) 14 Dies ist der^[7] Weg derer, die unerschütterlich sind, und das^[8] Ende derer, die Gefallen finden an ihren Worten: // 15 Wie Schafe weidet sie der Tod, sie sinken zum Scheol hinab; und am Morgen herrschen die Aufrichtigen über sie; ihre Gestalt zerfällt, der Scheol ist ihre Wohnung^[9]. 16 Gott aber wird mein Leben^[10] erlösen von der Gewalt des Scheols; denn er wird mich aufnehmen^[11]. // (Os 13,14) 17 Fürchte dich nicht, wenn ein Mann sich bereichert, wenn sich vergrößert die Pracht seines Hauses. 18 Denn bei seinem Tod nimmt er das alles nicht mit; seine Pracht folgt ihm nicht hinab.
