1 Salmo di Davide, composto quando fuggiva davanti ad Absalom, suo figlio. O Signore, quanto sono numerosi i miei nemici! Molti sono quelli che insorgono contro di me,2 molti quelli che dicono di me: «Non c’è più salvezza per lui presso Dio!» [Pausa]3 Ma tu, o Signore, sei uno scudo attorno a me, sei la mia gloria, colui che mi rialza il capo.4 Con la mia voce io grido al Signore ed egli mi risponde dal suo monte santo. [Pausa]5 Io mi sono coricato e ho dormito, poi mi sono risvegliato, perché il Signore mi sostiene.6 Io non temo le miriadi di genti che si sono accampate contro di me d’ogni intorno.7 Ergiti, o Signore, salvami, Dio mio; poiché tu hai percosso tutti i miei nemici sulla guancia, hai rotto i denti agli empi.8 Al Signore appartiene la salvezza; la tua benedizione sia sul tuo popolo! [Pausa]

LORD, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me.2 Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah.3 But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.4 I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.5 I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me.6 I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about.7 Arise, O LORD; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly.8 Salvation belongeth unto the LORD: thy blessing is upon thy people.
