1Každý nech sa podriaďuje vrchnosti, ktorá vládne. Veď každá vláda jestvuje len s Božím zvolením.2Kto sa teda stavia proti vláde, stavia sa proti zriadeniu, ktoré Boh ustanovil, a privoláva na seba trest.3Vláda predsa nemá naháňať strach tým, čo dobre robia, ale tým, čo robia zle. Kto koná v súlade so zákonmi, nemusí sa vlády báť. Naopak, kto robí dobre, dostane sa mu od nej pochvaly.4Veď Boh ju používa na tvoje dobro. Ale ak sa dopúšťaš zla, máš sa čoho báť, lebo nenadarmo má právo aj trestať. Lebo aj to je jej úlohou od Boha, aby trestala zlo.5Preto sa jej treba podriadiť nielen zo strachu pred trestom; je to aj vec svedomia.6Z rovnakého dôvodu napríklad platíme aj dane. Štát ich vyberá v záujme verejného blaha, a tak vyberači konajú svoje povinnosti vlastne z Božieho poverenia.7Dávajte teda každému, čo mu patrí: komu daň, tomu daň. Komu clo, tomu clo. Komu úctu, tomu úctu. Komu česť, tomu česť.
Najdôležitejšie pokyny
8Nikomu nebuďte nič dlžní okrem vzájomnej lásky. Lebo iba ten, kto miluje svojich blížnych, naplnil zákon.9Veď všetky prikázania, ako: „nebudeš cudzoložiť, zabíjať, kradnúť, túžiť po cudzom vlastníctve“ či ktorékoľvek iné, všetky sú obsiahnuté v tomto jedinom: Miluj svojho blížneho ako seba samého.10Láska neurobí blížnemu nič zlé, preto je naplnením zákona.
Vyžarovať Krista
11Pamätajte na to všetko najmä teraz, keď viete, v akých vážnych časoch žijeme. Je najvyšší čas prebrať sa z ľahostajnosti, lebo Pánov príchod je bližšie ako vtedy, keď sme uverili.12Noc sa chýli ku koncu a čoskoro svitne deň jeho príchodu. Zanechajme preto skutky tmy a ozbrojme sa zbraňami svetla.13Žime tak, aby naše správanie znieslo jasné svetlo. Neoddávajme sa hýreniu, zábavám, nemravnosti a zmyselnosti. Vyhýbajme sa zvadám a závisti.14Svojím životom vyžarujte Krista a nevenujte sa svojmu telu natoľko, aby sa v ňom prebúdzali zlé žiadosti.
1Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Fulfilling the Law Through Love
8Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. (Lv 19,13; Prís 3,27; Mt 22,40; Jn 13,34; Rim 13,10; Kol 3,14)9For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,” and any other commandment, are summed up in this word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (Ex 20,13; Lv 19,18; Dt 5,17; Mt 19,18)10Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. (Jn 14,15; Rim 13,8)11Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed.
