1Nachdem Jesus all das gesagt hatte, blickte er zum Himmel auf und sagte: »Vater, die Zeit ist gekommen. Verherrliche deinen Sohn, damit er dich verherrlichen kann. (Joh 13,31)2Denn du hast ihm Macht über alle Menschen auf der ganzen Welt gegeben. Er schenkt allen, die du ihm gegeben hast, das ewige Leben. (Mt 28,18; Joh 6,37)3Und das ist der Weg zum ewigen Leben: dich zu erkennen, den einzig wahren Gott, und Jesus Christus, den du in die Welt gesandt hast. (Phil 3,8; 1Joh 5,20)4Ich habe dich hier auf Erden verherrlicht, indem ich alles tat, was du mir aufgetragen hast.5Und nun, Vater, verherrliche mich mit der Herrlichkeit, die wir schon teilten, ehe die Welt erschaffen wurde. (Joh 1,1; Joh 17,24; Phil 2,6)6Ich habe deinen Namen diesen Menschen offenbart. Sie waren in der Welt, doch dann hast du sie mir gegeben. Sie haben dir schon immer gehört, und du hast sie mir gegeben, und sie haben dein Wort bewahrt. (Joh 17,26)7Jetzt wissen sie, dass alles, was ich habe, von dir ist,8denn ich habe ihnen die Worte weitergegeben, die du mir mitgegeben hast. Sie haben diese Worte angenommen und wissen, dass ich von dir gekommen bin; und sie glauben, dass du mich gesandt hast. (Joh 13,3; Joh 16,30)9Mein Gebet gilt nicht der Welt, sondern denen, die du mir gegeben hast, weil sie dir gehören. (1Joh 5,19)10Weil sie die Meinen sind, gehören sie auch dir; doch du hast sie mir gegeben, damit ich durch sie verherrlicht werde! (Joh 16,15)11Jetzt verlasse ich die Welt; ich lasse sie[1] zurück in der Welt und komme zu dir. Heiliger Vater, bewahre sie in deinem Namen, den du mir gegeben hast, damit sie eins sind, so wie wir eins sind. (Joh 10,30; Joh 17,21; Gal 3,28)12Während meiner Zeit hier auf Erden habe ich sie bewahrt.[2] Ich habe über sie gewacht, sodass nicht einer verloren ging außer dem, der den Weg des Verderbens beschritt[3], so wie es die Schrift vorausgesagt hat. (Joh 6,39)13Jetzt aber komme ich zu dir. Ich habe ihnen vieles gesagt, während ich in der Welt war, damit sie von meiner Freude vollkommen erfüllt sind. (Joh 7,33; Joh 15,11)14Ich habe ihnen dein Wort gegeben. Die Welt hasst sie, weil sie genau wie ich nicht zur Welt gehören. (Joh 15,18)15Ich bitte dich nicht, dass du sie aus der Welt herausnimmst, sondern dass du sie vor dem Bösen bewahrst. (1Joh 5,18)16Sie gehören genauso wenig zu dieser Welt wie ich.17Reinige sie und heilige sie, indem du sie deine Worte der Wahrheit lehrst.[4] (Joh 15,3)18Wie du mich in die Welt gesandt hast, so sende ich sie in die Welt. (Joh 20,21)19Und ich gebe mich ganz für sie hin, damit auch sie durch die Wahrheit ganz dir gehören. (Hebr 2,11)20Ich bete nicht nur für diese Jünger, sondern auch für alle, die durch ihr Wort an mich glauben werden. (Joh 17,9)21Ich bete für sie alle, dass sie eins sind, so wie du und ich eins sind, Vater – damit sie in uns eins sind, so wie du in mir bist und ich in dir bin, und die Welt glaubt, dass du mich gesandt hast. (Joh 10,38; Gal 3,28)22Ich habe ihnen die Herrlichkeit geschenkt, die du mir gegeben hast, damit sie eins sind, wie wir eins sind – (Joh 17,11)23ich in ihnen und du in mir, damit sie alle zur Einheit vollendet werden. Dann wird die Welt wissen, dass du mich gesandt hast, und wird begreifen, dass du sie liebst, wie du mich liebst. (Joh 16,27; Joh 17,5)24Vater, ich möchte, dass die, die du mir gegeben hast, bei mir sind, damit sie meine Herrlichkeit sehen können. Du hast mir die Herrlichkeit geschenkt, weil du mich schon vor Erschaffung der Welt geliebt hast! (Joh 1,14; Joh 12,26)25Gerechter Vater, die Welt kennt dich nicht, aber ich kenne dich, und diese Jünger wissen, dass du mich gesandt hast. (Mt 11,27)26Ich habe ihnen deinen Namen offenbart und werde ihn auch weiterhin offenbaren. Das tue ich, damit deine Liebe zu mir in ihnen bleibt und ich in ihnen.« (Joh 15,9)
1After Jesus said this, he looked towards heaven and prayed. He said, ‘Father, the time has come. Bring glory to your Son. Then your Son will bring glory to you.2You gave him authority over all people. He gives eternal life to all those you have given him.3And what is eternal life? It is knowing you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.4I have brought you glory on earth. I have finished the work you gave me to do.5So now, Father, give glory to me in heaven where your throne is. Give me the glory I had with you before the world began.
Jesus prays for his disciples
6‘I have shown you to the disciples you gave me out of the world. They were yours. You gave them to me. And they have obeyed your word.7Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you.8I gave them the words you gave me. And they accepted them. They knew for certain that I came from you. They believed that you sent me.9I pray for them. I am not praying for the world. I am praying for those you have given me, because they are yours.10All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. Glory has come to me because of my disciples.11I will not remain in the world any longer. But they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them safe by the power of your name. It is the name you gave me. Keep them safe so they can be one, just as you and I are one.12While I was with them, I guarded them. I kept them safe through the name you gave me. None of them has been lost, except the one who was heading for ruin. It happened so that Scripture would come true.13‘I am coming to you now. But I say these things while I am still in the world. I say them so that those you gave me can have the same joy that I have.14I have given them your word. The world has hated them. That’s because they are not part of the world any more than I am.15I do not pray that you will take them out of the world. I pray that you will keep them safe from the evil one.16They do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to it.17Use the truth to make them holy. Your word is truth.18You sent me into the world. In the same way, I have sent them into the world.19I make myself holy for them so that they too can be made holy by the truth.
Jesus prays for all believers
20‘I do not pray only for them. I pray also for everyone who will believe in me because of their message.21Father, I pray they will be one, just as you are in me and I am in you. I want them also to be in us. Then the world will believe that you have sent me.22I have given them the glory you gave me. I did this so they would be one, just as we are one.23I will be in them, just as you are in me. This is so that they may be brought together perfectly as one. Then the world will know that you sent me. It will also show the world that you have loved those you gave me, just as you have loved me.24‘Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am. I want them to see my glory, the glory you have given me. You gave it to me because you loved me before the world was created.25‘Father, you are holy. The world does not know you, but I know you. Those you have given me know you have sent me.26I have shown you to them. And I will continue to show you to them. Then the love you have for me will be in them. I myself will be in them.’
