Feuer verzehrt, was ihm im Weg steht, und um ihn her tobt ein mächtiger Sturm. (Ps 18,13; Dan 7,10)4Himmel und Erde ruft er zu seinen Zeugen, wenn er sein Volk richtet: (5Mo 4,26; 5Mo 32,1; Jes 1,2)5»Versammelt alle, die mir treu sind, die einen Bund mit mir geschlossen haben, und mir Opfer darbrachten.« (2Mo 24,7)6Die Himmel verkünden seine Gerechtigkeit, denn Gott selbst wird der Richter sein. (Ps 75,8; Ps 96,13; Ps 97,6)7»Höre, mein Volk, wenn ich rede. Israel, dies sind meine Vorwürfe gegen dich: Ich bin Gott, dein Gott!8Nicht wegen deiner Opfergaben stelle ich dich zur Rede. Deine Brandopfer sind mir ständig vor Augen. (Ps 40,7)9Ich brauche keine Stiere aus deinen Scheunen zu nehmen und keine Ziegen von deinen Weiden. (Ps 69,32)10Denn alles Wild des Waldes gehört mir, und auch die Tiere auf den Bergen. (Ps 104,24)11Alle Vögel der Berge und alle Tiere auf dem Feld gehören mir.12Wenn ich hungrig wäre, würde ich es dir nicht sagen, denn die ganze Welt und alles, was auf ihr lebt, gehört mir. (2Mo 19,5)13Ich brauche die Stiere nicht, die du opferst, und auch nicht das Blut der Ziegen. (Hos 6,6)14Ich will aber, dass ihr Gott dankt und die Versprechen, die ihr vor dem Höchsten abgelegt habt, erfüllt. (5Mo 23,22; Hos 14,3; Röm 12,1; Hebr 13,15)15Vertraue auf mich, wenn du in Not bist, dann will ich dich erretten, und du sollst mir die Ehre geben.«16Zu dem Gottlosen aber spricht Gott: »Was sprichst du ständig von meinen Geboten und redest von meinem Bund? (Jes 29,13)17Du lässt dich nicht von mir zurechtweisen und lehnst meine Ermahnungen ab. (Neh 9,26; Röm 2,21)18Wenn du einen Dieb siehst, hilfst du ihm und verbringst deine Zeit mit Ehebrechern. (Röm 1,32; 1Tim 5,22)19Wenn du deinen Mund öffnest, redest du Böses und mit Worten betrügst du. (Ps 10,7; Ps 36,4)20Du sitzt da und redest gegen deinen eigenen Bruder, den Sohn deiner Mutter verleumdest du. (Mt 10,21)21Bis jetzt habe ich geschwiegen, und du dachtest, ich sei wie du. Doch jetzt will ich dich bestrafen und dir alle meine Anklagen vor Augen stellen. (Ps 90,8; Pred 8,11; Jes 42,14)22Hört doch, ihr Menschen, die ihr mich vergessen habt, oder ich werde euch vernichten, und keiner wird euch retten! (Hi 8,13; Ps 9,18)23Wer mir Dank sagt, bringt mir ein Opfer, das mich wirklich ehrt. Wer auf dem Weg bleibt, der erfährt meine Rettung.« (Ps 50,14; Ps 85,13; Ps 91,16)
1The Mighty One, God, the LORD, speaks. He calls out to the earth from the sunrise in the east to the sunset in the west.2From Zion, perfect and beautiful, God’s glory shines out.3Our God comes, and he won’t be silent. A burning fire goes ahead of him. A terrible storm is all around him.4He calls out to heaven and earth to be his witnesses. Then he judges his people.5He says, ‘Gather this holy people around me. They made a covenant with me by offering a sacrifice.’6The heavens announce that what God decides is right. That’s because he is a God of justice.7God says, ‘Listen, my people, and I will speak. I will be a witness against you, Israel. I am God, your God.8I don’t bring charges against you because of your sacrifices. I don’t bring charges because of the burnt offerings you always bring me.9I don’t need a bull from your barn. I don’t need goats from your pens.10Every animal in the forest already belongs to me. And so do the cattle on a thousand hills.11I own every bird in the mountains. The insects in the fields belong to me.12If I were hungry, I wouldn’t tell you. The world belongs to me. And so does everything in it.13Do I eat the meat of bulls? Do I drink the blood of goats?14Bring me thank-offerings, because I am your God. Carry out the promises you made to me, because I am the Most High God.15Call out to me when trouble comes. I will save you. And you will honour me.’16But here is what God says to a sinful person. ‘What right do you have to speak the words of my laws? How dare you speak the words of my covenant!17You hate my teaching. You turn your back on what I say.18When you see a thief, you join him. You make friends with those who commit adultery.19You use your mouth to speak evil. You use your tongue to spread lies.20You are a witness against your brother. You always tell lies about your own mother’s son.21When you did these things, I kept silent. So you thought I was just like you. But now I’m going to bring you to court. I will bring charges against you.22‘You who forget God, think about this. If you don’t, I will tear you to pieces. No one will be able to save you.23People who sacrifice thank-offerings to me honour me. To those who are without blame I will show my power to save.’

But now I rebuke you and lay the charge before you.
