1When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.2Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.3They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.4All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues[1] as the Spirit enabled them.5Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven.6When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken.7Utterly amazed, they asked: ‘Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans?8Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language?9Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,[2]10Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome11(both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs – we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!’12Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, ‘What does this mean?’13Some, however, made fun of them and said, ‘They have had too much wine.’
Peter addresses the crowd
14Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: ‘Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say.15These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning!16No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:17‘ “In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.18Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.19I will show wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke.20The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.21And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Joe 2:28)22‘Fellow Israelites, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know.23This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men,[3] put him to death by nailing him to the cross.24But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.25David said about him: ‘ “I saw the Lord always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.26Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest in hope,27because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead, you will not let your holy one see decay.28You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence.”[4] (Ps 16:8)29‘Fellow Israelites, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was buried, and his tomb is here to this day.30But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne.31Seeing what was to come, he spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah, that he was not abandoned to the realm of the dead, nor did his body see decay.32God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of it.33Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear.34For David did not ascend to heaven, and yet he said, ‘ “The Lord said to my Lord: ‘Sit at my right hand35until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.’ ” (Ps 110:1)36‘Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.’37When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, ‘Brothers, what shall we do?’38Peter replied, ‘Repent and be baptised, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.39The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off – for all whom the Lord our God will call.’40With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, ‘Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.’41Those who accepted his message were baptised, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.
The fellowship of the believers
42They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.43Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles.44All the believers were together and had everything in common.45They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need.46Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,47praising God and enjoying the favour of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

(Eze 37:9; Eze 37:14; Joh 3:8; Joh 20:22)3Li s‑au arătat niște limbi ca de foc[3], care s‑au împărțit și s‑au așezat pe fiecare dintre ei.[4] (Ex 3:2; Ex 19:18)4Toți au fost umpluți de Duhul Sfânt și au început să vorbească în alte limbi, după cum le dădea Duhul să vorbească.5În Ierusalim locuiau atunci iudei, oameni evlavioși din orice neam de sub cer.6Când s‑a auzit sunetul acela, mulțimea s‑a adunat și a rămas uluită, pentru că fiecare în parte auzea vorbindu‑se acolo propria sa limbă.7Ei erau uimiți și se minunau, zicând: „Iată, nu sunt oare galileeni toți aceștia care vorbesc?!8Cum de fiecare dintre noi auzim vorbindu‑se propria noastră limbă în care ne‑am născut?!9Parți, mezi, elamiți, locuitori din Mesopotamia, din Iudeea, din Capadocia, din Pont, din Asia[5],10din Frigia, din Pamfilia, din Egipt, de prin părțile Libiei dinspre Cirena[6], vizitatori din Roma,11iudei și prozeliți, cretani și arabi, noi toți auzim vorbindu‑se în propriile noastre limbi despre lucrările mărețe ale lui Dumnezeu!“12Toți se minunau, erau nedumeriți și se întrebau unul pe altul: „Ce vrea să însemne aceasta?“13Alții însă își băteau joc și ziceau: „Sunt plini de must!“
Petru vorbește mulțimii în ziua Cincizecimii
14Dar Petru s‑a ridicat în picioare împreună cu cei unsprezece, și‑a ridicat glasul și le‑a vorbit astfel: – Bărbați iudei și toți cei ce locuiți în Ierusalim, să vă fie cunoscut lucrul acesta și să ascultați cuvintele mele!15Oamenii aceștia nu sunt beți, așa cum presupuneți voi, pentru că nu este decât ceasul al treilea din zi[7], (Ac 9:1)16ci aceasta este ceea ce a fost spus prin profetul Ioel:17„În zilele de pe urmă, zice Dumnezeu, voi turna din Duhul Meu peste orice om.[8] Fiii și fiicele voastre vor profeți, tinerii voștri vor avea[9] viziuni, iar bătrânii voștri vor avea[10] vise!18Chiar și peste robii Mei și peste roabele Mele voi turna din Duhul Meu în acele zile și vor profeți.19Voi face minuni sus în cer și semne jos pe pământ, sânge, foc și coloane de fum.20Soarele se va preface în întuneric, iar luna în sânge, înainte să vină ziua cea mare și glorioasă a Domnului.21Atunci oricine va chema Numele Domnului va fi mântuit!“[11] (Joe 2:28)22Bărbați israeliți, ascultați cuvintele acestea: pe Isus nazarineanul, bărbat confirmat de Dumnezeu înaintea voastră prin lucrările puternice, minunile și semnele pe care Dumnezeu le‑a făcut prin El în mijlocul vostru, după cum voi înșivă știți,23pe Omul Acesta, dat pe mâna voastră după planul hotărât și după preștiința lui Dumnezeu, voi L‑ați răstignit și L‑ați omorât prin mâna celor fără de Lege[12]!24Dumnezeu însă L‑a înviat, dezlegându‑L de durerile[13] morții, pentru că nu era posibil să fie ținut de ea.25Căci David zice despre El: „Îl văd pe Domnul neîncetat înaintea mea, căci El este la dreapta mea ca să nu mă clatin!26De aceea, mi se bucură inima și mi se înveselește limba[14]! Mai mult, trupul meu va locui în speranță, (Ps 16:9)27căci nu‑mi vei lăsa sufletul în Locuința Morților[15] și nu vei îngădui ca Sfântul Tău să vadă putrezirea.28Mi‑ai făcut cunoscute căile vieții; mă vei umple de bucurie cu prezența Ta!“[16] (Ps 16:8)29Bărbați, fraților, cât despre patriarhul David, pot să vă spun cu îndrăzneală că el a murit și a fost înmormântat, iar mormântul lui a rămas în mijlocul nostru până în ziua aceasta.30Așadar, pentru că era profet și știa că Dumnezeu îi promisese prin jurământ că‑l va pune pe tronul lui pe unul din rodul trupului lui[17], (2Sa 7:12; Ps 132:11)31deci, pentru că știa aceasta mai dinainte, el vorbea despre învierea lui Cristos atunci când spunea că nu va fi lăsat în Locuința Morților și că trupul Lui nu va vedea putrezirea.32Dumnezeu L‑a înviat pe acest Isus, și noi toți suntem martori.33Așadar, fiind înălțat la dreapta lui Dumnezeu și primind de la Tatăl promisiunea Duhului Sfânt, El a turnat ceea ce vedeți și auziți.34Căci David nu s‑a suit în ceruri, ci el însuși zice: „Domnul I‑a zis Domnului meu[18]: «Șezi la dreapta Mea, (Ps 110:1)35până‑i voi pune pe dușmanii Tăi scăunaș[19] pentru picioarele Tale!»“[20] (2Ch 9:18; Ps 110:1)36Să știe bine deci toată Casa lui Israel că Dumnezeu L‑a făcut Domn și Cristos[21] pe acest Isus, pe Care L‑ați răstignit voi!37Auzind aceasta, ei au rămas străpunși în inimă și i‑au întrebat pe Petru și pe ceilalți apostoli: – Bărbați, fraților, ce să facem?38Petru le‑a răspuns: – Pocăiți‑vă și fiecare din voi să fie botezat în Numele lui Isus Cristos[22] spre iertarea păcatelor voastre; și veți primi darul Duhului Sfânt! (Mt 28:19; Ac 1:1; Ac 19:4)39Căci promisiunea este pentru voi, pentru copiii voștri și pentru toți cei ce sunt departe, în oricât de mare număr îi va chema Domnul, Dumnezeul nostru!40Și cu multe alte cuvinte el mărturisea și îi îndemna, zicând: – Mântuiți‑vă din mijlocul acestei generații corupte!41Astfel, cei ce au primit cuvântul lui au fost botezați, și în ziua aceea au fost adăugate cam trei mii de suflete la numărul ucenicilor.
Părtășia credincioșilor
42Ei stăruiau în învățătura apostolilor, în părtășie, în frângerea pâinii și în rugăciuni.43Fiecare suflet era plin de frică, iar prin apostoli se făceau multe minuni și semne.44Toți cei ce credeau erau împreună la un loc și aveau toate în comun.45Ei își vindeau proprietățile și averile, iar banii îi împărțeau între toți, după cum avea nevoie fiecare.46În fiecare zi continuau să se întâlnească, în același gând, în Templu, frângeau pâinea acasă, își împărțeau mâncarea cu bucurie și simplitate a inimii,47Îl lăudau pe Dumnezeu și aveau parte de bunăvoința întregului popor. Și Domnul adăuga în fiecare zi la numărul lor pe cei ce erau mântuiți.
