1Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Go to Pharaoh and say to him, “This is what the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, says: ‘Let my people go, so that they may worship me.’2If you refuse to let them go and continue to hold them back,3the hand of the Lord will bring a terrible plague on your livestock in the field – on your horses, donkeys and camels and on your cattle, sheep and goats.4But the Lord will make a distinction between the livestock of Israel and that of Egypt, so that no animal belonging to the Israelites will die.” ’5The Lord set a time and said, ‘Tomorrow the Lord will do this in the land.’6And the next day the Lord did it: all the livestock of the Egyptians died, but not one animal belonging to the Israelites died.7Pharaoh investigated and found that not even one of the animals of the Israelites had died. Yet his heart was unyielding and he would not let the people go.
The plague of boils
8Then the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, ‘Take handfuls of soot from a furnace and let Moses toss it into the air in the presence of Pharaoh.9It will become fine dust over the whole land of Egypt, and festering boils will break out on people and animals throughout the land.’10So they took soot from a furnace and stood before Pharaoh. Moses tossed it into the air, and festering boils broke out on people and animals.11The magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils that were on them and on all the Egyptians.12But the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart and he would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the Lord had said to Moses.
The plague of hail
13Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Get up early in the morning, confront Pharaoh and say to him, “This is what the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, says: let my people go, so that they may worship me,14or this time I will send the full force of my plagues against you and against your officials and your people, so you may know that there is no-one like me in all the earth.15For by now I could have stretched out my hand and struck you and your people with a plague that would have wiped you off the earth.16But I have raised you up[1] for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.17You still set yourself against my people and will not let them go.18Therefore, at this time tomorrow I will send the worst hailstorm that has ever fallen on Egypt, from the day it was founded till now.19Give an order now to bring your livestock and everything you have in the field to a place of shelter, because the hail will fall on every person and animal that has not been brought in and is still out in the field, and they will die.” ’20Those officials of Pharaoh who feared the word of the Lord hurried to bring their slaves and their livestock inside.21But those who ignored the word of the Lord left their slaves and livestock in the field.22Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Stretch out your hand towards the sky so that hail will fall all over Egypt – on people and animals and on everything growing in the fields of Egypt.’23When Moses stretched out his staff towards the sky, the Lord sent thunder and hail, and lightning flashed down to the ground. So the Lord rained hail on the land of Egypt;24hail fell and lightning flashed back and forth. It was the worst storm in all the land of Egypt since it had become a nation.25Throughout Egypt hail struck everything in the fields – both people and animals; it beat down everything growing in the fields and stripped every tree.26The only place it did not hail was the land of Goshen, where the Israelites were.27Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron. ‘This time I have sinned,’ he said to them. ‘The Lord is in the right, and I and my people are in the wrong.28Pray to the Lord, for we have had enough thunder and hail. I will let you go; you don’t have to stay any longer.’29Moses replied, ‘When I have gone out of the city, I will spread out my hands in prayer to the Lord. The thunder will stop and there will be no more hail, so you may know that the earth is the Lord’s.30But I know that you and your officials still do not fear the Lord God.’31(The flax and barley were destroyed, since the barley was in the ear and the flax was in bloom.32The wheat and spelt, however, were not destroyed, because they ripen later.)33Then Moses left Pharaoh and went out of the city. He spread out his hands towards the Lord; the thunder and hail stopped, and the rain no longer poured down on the land.34When Pharaoh saw that the rain and hail and thunder had stopped, he sinned again: he and his officials hardened their hearts.35So Pharaoh’s heart was hard and he would not let the Israelites go, just as the Lord had said through Moses.

Die sechste Plage: Geschwüre
8Da sprach der HERR zu Mose und Aaron: Nehmt eure Hände voll Ofenruß, und Mose soll ihn zum Himmel werfen vor dem Pharao!9Dann wird er über dem ganzen Land Ägypten zu Staub werden, und er wird zu Geschwüren werden, die als Blattern aufbrechen an Menschen und Vieh im ganzen Land Ägypten. (Job 2:4)10Da nahmen sie Ofenruß und traten vor den Pharao, und Mose warf ihn zum Himmel. Da wurden Geschwüre daraus, die als Blattern aufbrachen an Menschen und Vieh, (De 28:27)11sodass die Zauberer nicht vor Mose treten konnten wegen der Geschwüre. Denn die Geschwüre waren an den Zauberern ebenso wie an allen anderen Ägyptern. Die siebte Plage: Hagel
13Da sprach der HERR zu Mose: Mache dich am Morgen früh auf und tritt vor den Pharao und sprich zu ihm: So spricht der HERR, der Gott der Hebräer: »Lass mein Volk ziehen, damit es mir dient! (Ex 7:26)14Sonst will ich diesmal alle meine Plagen gegen dein Herz richten und gegen deine Knechte und gegen dein Volk, damit du erkennst, dass auf der ganzen Erde nicht meinesgleichen ist. (Le 26:18; De 28:15; De 28:58; De 32:39; 1Sa 4:8; Re 18:18)15Denn ich hätte meine Hand schon ausstrecken und dich und dein Volk mit der Pest schlagen können, dass du von der Erde vertilgt worden wärst; (2Ki 19:35)16aber ich habe dich eben dazu bestehen lassen, dass ich an dir meine Macht erweise und dass mein Name verkündigt werde auf der ganzen Erde. (Ex 14:17; Ex 15:1; Ex 15:21; Ex 18:11; Jos 2:10; Pr 16:4; Ro 9:17; Ro 9:22)17Wenn du dich aber meinem Volk noch weiter entgegenstellst und es nicht ziehen lassen willst, (Job 15:25; Isa 10:15)18siehe, so will ich morgen um diese Zeit einen sehr schweren Hagel fallen lassen, wie er in Ägypten bisher nicht gewesen ist seit der Zeit, da es gegründet wurde, bis jetzt. (Ex 7:19; Ex 8:5; Ex 8:16)23So streckte Mose seinen Stab zum Himmel. Und der HERR ließ es donnern und hageln, dass das Feuer zur Erde niederfuhr. Und der HERR ließ Hagel regnen auf das Land Ägypten. (Ps 18:13; Isa 30:30; Re 16:21)24Es war aber zugleich Hagel und ein unaufhörliches Blitzen mitten in den Hagel hinein, so stark, dass etwas Derartiges im ganzen Land Ägypten niemals vorgekommen war, seitdem es bevölkert ist. (Ex 10:14)25Und der Hagel erschlug im ganzen Land Ägypten alles, was auf dem Feld war, vom Menschen bis zum Vieh. Auch zerschlug der Hagel alles Gewächs auf dem Feld und zerbrach alle Bäume auf dem Land. (Ps 105:33)26Nur im Land Gosen, wo die Kinder Israels waren, hagelte es nicht. (Ps 46:2; Isa 32:18)27Da sandte der Pharao hin und ließ Mose und Aaron rufen und sprach zu ihnen: Diesmal habe ich mich versündigt! Der HERR ist gerecht; ich aber und mein Volk sind schuldig! (Nu 22:34; 1Sa 15:24; 2Ch 12:6; La 1:18; Da 9:14)28Bittet aber den HERRN, dass es nun genug sei mit dem Donner Gottes und dem Hagel; so will ich euch ziehen lassen, und ihr sollt nicht länger hierbleiben! (De 28:27)10Und sie nahmen Ruß aus dem Ofen und traten vor den Pharao, und Mose warf den Ruß gen Himmel. Da brachen auf böse Blattern an den Menschen und am Vieh. (Ex 8:6)15Denn ich hätte schon meine Hand ausrecken und dich und dein Volk mit Pest schlagen können, dass du von der Erde vertilgt würdest.16Aber dazu habe ich dich erhalten, dass meine Kraft an dir erscheine und mein Name verkündigt werde in allen Landen. (Ex 14:4; Ro 9:17)17Du stellst dich noch immer wider mein Volk und willst es nicht ziehen lassen.18Siehe, ich will morgen um diese Zeit einen sehr großen Hagel fallen lassen, wie er noch nie in Ägypten gewesen ist von der Zeit an, als es gegründet wurde, bis heute.19Und nun sende hin und verwahre dein Vieh und alles, was du auf dem Felde hast.
