von Genfer Bibelgesellschaft1Darauf sagte der HERR zu Mose: »Ich habe dich dazu bevollmächtigt, mit göttlicher Autorität vor den Pharao zu treten.[1] Dein Bruder Aaron wird dein Prophet sein, ´der für dich spricht`.2Du sollst Aaron alles weitergeben, was ich dir auftrage. Er soll mit dem Pharao reden ´und ihn auffordern`, die Israeliten aus seinem Land ziehen zu lassen.3Allerdings werde ich den Pharao hart und uneinsichtig machen.[2] Ich werde zahlreiche Zeichen und Wunder in Ägypten tun,4aber der Pharao wird nicht auf euch hören. Deshalb werden die Ägypter meine Hand zu spüren bekommen. Durch gewaltige Strafgerichte führe ich mein Volk, die Israeliten, nach Stämmen geordnet[3] aus Ägypten heraus.5Wenn ich meine Hand über Ägypten ausstrecke und die Israeliten aus ihrer Mitte wegführe, werden die Ägypter erkennen, dass ich der HERR bin.«6Mose und Aaron taten alles genau so, wie der HERR es ihnen aufgetragen hatte.7Als sie dem Pharao gegenüber traten[4], war Mose achtzig Jahre und Aaron dreiundachtzig Jahre alt.
Das Zeichen der Macht: der Stab wird zur Schlange
8Der HERR sagte zu Mose und Aaron:9»Wenn der Pharao von euch verlangt, euch durch ein Wunder auszuweisen, sollst du, ´Mose`, zu Aaron sagen: ›Nimm deinen Stab und wirf ihn dem Pharao vor ´die Füße`!‹ Dann wird der Stab zu einer Schlange werden.«10Mose und Aaron gingen zum Pharao. Sie taten, was der HERR angeordnet hatte: Aaron warf seinen Stab vor dem Pharao und seinen Hofbeamten auf den Boden, und dieser wurde zu einer Schlange.11Der Pharao ließ seine weisen Männer und Zauberer kommen, und die ägyptischen Magier taten mit ihren Künsten dasselbe:12Alle warfen ihre Stäbe auf den Boden, und diese wurden zu Schlangen. Doch Aarons Stab fraß alle anderen auf.13Trotzdem blieb der Pharao starrsinnig.[5] Er hörte nicht auf Mose und Aaron, so wie der HERR es vorausgesagt hatte.
Erstes Strafgericht: Wasser wird zu Blut
14Da sagte der HERR zu Mose: »Der Pharao gibt nicht nach.[6] Er weigert sich ´weiterhin`, mein Volk gehen zu lassen.15Begib dich deshalb morgen früh zu ihm, wenn er zum Nil hinuntergeht. Tritt ihm am Flussufer entgegen und halte den Stab, der in eine Schlange verwandelt wurde, in deiner Hand.16Sag zum Pharao: ›Der HERR, der Gott der Hebräer, schickt mich zu dir und lässt dir sagen: Lass mein Volk gehen, damit es mir in der Wüste Opfer darbringen[7] kann! Bisher hast du nicht gehorcht.17Darum: An dem, was nun geschieht, sollst du erkennen, dass ich der HERR bin.‹ ´Dann sprich zum Pharao:` ›Ich werde jetzt mit dem Stab in meiner Hand auf das Wasser des Nils schlagen, und es wird sich in Blut verwandeln.18Die Fische im Nil werden sterben, und der Fluss wird stinken. Die Ägypter werden das Nilwasser nicht mehr trinken können.‹«19Weiter sagte der HERR zu Mose: »Auch Aaron soll seinen Stab nehmen und ihn mit ausgestrecktem Arm über die Gewässer Ägyptens halten, über Flüsse, Kanäle, Sümpfe und alle Wasserstellen. So wird alles Wasser in Ägypten zu Blut werden, selbst in Holz- und Steingefäßen.«20Mose und Aaron befolgten, was der HERR ihnen aufgetragen hatte. Vor den Augen des Pharaos und seiner Hofbeamten hob Mose[8] den Stab und schlug damit auf das Wasser des Nils. Da wurde alles Wasser im Fluss zu Blut.21Die Fische im Nil starben, und der Fluss begann zu stinken. Die Ägypter konnten kein Nilwasser mehr trinken. Überall in Ägypten war ´das Wasser` zu Blut geworden.22Die ägyptischen Magier aber konnten mit ihren Künsten dasselbe bewirken. Deshalb blieb der Pharao starrsinnig.[9] Er hörte nicht auf Mose und Aaron, so wie der HERR es vorausgesagt hatte.23Er wandte sich ab und ging in seinen Palast zurück. Auch dieses Ereignis nahm er sich nicht zu Herzen.24Die Ägypter mussten in der Umgebung des Nils nach Trinkwasser graben, denn vom Nilwasser konnten sie nicht mehr trinken.25´Dieser Zustand` hielt sieben Tage lang an, nachdem der HERR den Nil geschlagen hatte.
Zweites Strafgericht: Froschplage
26Der HERR sagte zu Mose: »Geh zum Pharao und richte ihm aus: ›So spricht der HERR: Lass mein Volk gehen, damit es mir Opfer darbringen kann!27Wenn du dich ´weiterhin` weigerst, es ziehen zu lassen, werde ich dein ganzes Gebiet mit einer Froschplage heimsuchen.28Im Nil wird es von Fröschen wimmeln. Sie werden herausklettern und in deinen Palast kommen, in dein Schlafgemach, auf dein Bett und in die Häuser deiner Hofbeamten. Sie werden dein ganzes Volk belästigen, selbst in Öfen und Backtrögen wird man sie finden.29´Ihr alle` werdet unter der Froschplage leiden: du, deine Hofbeamten und dein ganzes Volk.‹«

Die erste Plage: Wasser wird zu Blut
14Und der HERR sprach zu Mose: Das Herz des Pharao ist verstockt; er weigert sich, das Volk ziehen zu lassen. (2Mo 8,15; 2Mo 10,1; Hebr 12,25)15Geh am Morgen hin zum Pharao; siehe, er wird hinaus ans Wasser gehen; tritt ihm entgegen am Ufer des Nils und nimm den Stab in deine Hand, der zur Schlange geworden ist, (2Mo 8,20; Hes 29,3)16und sprich zu ihm: Der HERR, der Gott der Hebräer, hat mich zu dir gesandt, um dir zu sagen: Lass mein Volk ziehen, damit es mir in der Wüste dient! Die zweite Plage: Frösche
26Und der HERR sprach zu Mose: Geh hinein zum Pharao und sprich zu ihm: So spricht der HERR: Lass mein Volk ziehen, damit es mir dient! (2Mo 4,23; 2Mo 5,1; 2Mo 7,16; 2Mo 8,20; 2Mo 9,1; 2Mo 9,13; 2Mo 10,3)27Wenn du dich aber weigerst, es ziehen zu lassen, siehe, so will ich dein ganzes Gebiet mit Fröschen plagen, (2Mo 7,14; 2Mo 9,2; Ps 78,45; Ps 105,30; Spr 1,24; Jes 1,20; Offb 16,13)28und der Nil wird von Fröschen wimmeln; die sollen heraufkommen in dein Haus und in deine Schlafkammer und auf dein Bett; auch in die Häuser deiner Knechte, unter dein Volk, in deine Backöfen und in deine Backtröge; (2Mo 8,2)29und die Frösche sollen auf dich und auf dein Volk und auf alle deine Knechte kriechen.

Then I will lay my hand on Egypt and with mighty acts of judgment I will bring out my divisions, my people the Israelites.5And the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord when I stretch out my hand against Egypt and bring the Israelites out of it.’6Moses and Aaron did just as the Lord commanded them.7Moses was eighty years old and Aaron eighty-three when they spoke to Pharaoh.
Aaron’s staff becomes a snake
8The Lord said to Moses and Aaron,9‘When Pharaoh says to you, “Perform a miracle,” then say to Aaron, “Take your staff and throw it down before Pharaoh,” and it will become a snake.’10So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and did just as the Lord commanded. Aaron threw his staff down in front of Pharaoh and his officials, and it became a snake.11Pharaoh then summoned the wise men and sorcerers, and the Egyptian magicians also did the same things by their secret arts:12each one threw down his staff and it became a snake. But Aaron’s staff swallowed up their staffs.13Yet Pharaoh’s heart became hard and he would not listen to them, just as the Lord had said.
The plague of blood
14Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Pharaoh’s heart is unyielding; he refuses to let the people go.15Go to Pharaoh in the morning as he goes out to the river. Confront him on the bank of the Nile, and take in your hand the staff that was changed into a snake.16Then say to him, “The Lord, the God of the Hebrews, has sent me to say to you: Let my people go, so that they may worship me in the wilderness. But until now you have not listened.17This is what the Lord says: by this you will know that I am the Lord: with the staff that is in my hand I will strike the water of the Nile, and it will be changed into blood.18The fish in the Nile will die, and the river will stink; the Egyptians will not be able to drink its water.” ’19The Lord said to Moses, ‘Tell Aaron, “Take your staff and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt – over the streams and canals, over the ponds and all the reservoirs – and they will turn to blood.” Blood will be everywhere in Egypt, even in vessels[1] of wood and stone.’20Moses and Aaron did just as the Lord had commanded.
