Pruebas y tentaciones
2Hermanos míos, que les dé gran alegría cuando pasen por diferentes pruebas,3pues ya saben que cuando su fe sea puesta a prueba, producirá en ustedes firmeza.4Y cuando se desarrolle completamente la firmeza, serán perfectos y maduros, sin que les falte nada.5Si a alguno de ustedes le falta sabiduría, pídasela a Dios. Él se la dará, porque Dios da a todos en abundancia sin hacer ningún reproche.6Pero debe pedirla con fe, sin dudar, ya que el que duda es como las olas del mar que el viento agita y lleva de un lado a otro.7El que es así, no piense que va a recibir alguna cosa del Señor,8porque no es capaz de tomar decisiones ni es constante en lo que hace.9El hermano de condición humilde debe sentirse orgulloso de lo mucho que vale;10y el rico, de su humilde condición. El rico se marchitará como la flor del campo.11Cuando el sol sale, seca la planta con su calor intenso. A la planta se le marchita la flor y pierde su belleza. Así se marchitará también el rico en todos sus negocios.12Dichoso el que permanece firme durante la prueba, porque cuando la supera, recibe la corona de la vida que Dios ha prometido a los que lo aman.13Nadie debe decir, cuando es tentado, que es Dios el que lo tienta. Porque Dios no puede ser tentado por el mal, ni él tampoco tienta a nadie.14Al contrario, cada uno es tentado por sus propios malos deseos que lo arrastran y seducen.15Los malos deseos dan a luz el pecado. Después, cuando el pecado se desarrolla completamente, da a luz la muerte.16Mis queridos hermanos, no se engañen.17De lo alto nos viene todo lo bueno y perfecto. Allí es donde está el Padre que creó todos los astros del cielo, y que no cambia como las sombras.18Él quiso darnos vida por medio de la palabra de verdad, para que fuéramos los primeros frutos de su creación.
Hay que poner en práctica la palabra
19Mis queridos hermanos, pongan atención: Todos ustedes deben estar listos para escuchar, pero deben ser lentos para hablar y para enojarse.20Porque el enojo no deja a la gente vivir con justicia como Dios quiere.21Por eso, despójense de toda suciedad y de la maldad que tanto abunda. De esa manera podrán recibir con humildad la palabra sembrada en ustedes. Esta palabra tiene poder para salvarles la vida.22Pongan en práctica la palabra y no se limiten a sólo escucharla pues de otra manera se engañan ustedes mismos.23El que escucha la palabra pero no la pone en práctica es como el que mira su cara en un espejo24y, en cuanto se va, se olvida de cómo era.25Pero el que pone su atención en la ley perfecta que da libertad, y sigue en ella sin olvidar lo que ha oído y hace lo que ella dice, será dichoso en lo que hace.26Si alguien se cree religioso pero no controla su lengua, se engaña a sí mismo, y su religión no sirve para nada.27La religión pura y sin mancha que a Dios le agrada es esta: ayudar a los huérfanos y a las viudas en sus problemas, y estar siempre limpio sin mancharse con la maldad del mundo.

(1 R 3:9; Pr 2:3; Pr 28:5; Mt 7:7)6But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. (Is 57:20; Mt 21:21; Mr 11:24; Ef 4:14)7For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord;8he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. (Stg 4:8; 2 P 2:14; 2 P 3:16)9Let the lowly brother boast in his exaltation,10and the rich in his humiliation, because like a flower of the grass[3] he will pass away. (Sal 102:4; Sal 102:11; Jer 9:23; 1 Co 7:31; 1 P 1:24)11For the sun rises with its scorching heat and withers the grass; its flower falls, and its beauty perishes. So also will the rich man fade away in the midst of his pursuits. (Is 40:7)12Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him. (Dn 12:12; Mt 10:22; 1 Co 9:25; 2 Ti 4:8; Stg 2:5; Stg 5:11; 1 P 3:14; 1 P 5:4; Ap 2:10; Ap 3:11)13Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one.14But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire.15Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death. (Job 15:35; Sal 7:14; Is 59:4; Ro 5:12; Ro 6:23)16Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers.17Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.[4] (Sal 85:12; Mal 3:6; Jn 3:27; 1 Co 4:7; 1 Jn 1:5)18Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures. Hearing and Doing the Word
19Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; (Pr 10:19; Pr 14:29; Pr 17:27; Ec 5:1; 1 Jn 2:21)20for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.21Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. (1 Co 15:2; Ef 1:13; Col 3:8; Stg 3:13)22But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. (Mt 7:21; Mt 7:24; Lc 8:21; Jn 13:17; Ro 2:13; Stg 2:14)23For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror.24For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like.25But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing. (Sal 1:1; Lc 11:28; Jn 8:32; Gl 2:4; Gl 5:1; Gl 5:13; Stg 2:12; 1 P 2:16; 2 P 2:19)26If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless. (Sal 34:13; Sal 39:1; Sal 141:3; Hch 26:5; Stg 3:2; Stg 3:6)27Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world. (Job 31:17; Is 1:17; Is 1:23; Mt 25:36; 1 Ti 5:22; 2 P 3:14; 1 Jn 5:18)
