1¡Corran arriba y abajo por todas las calles de Jerusalén; busquen con cuidado por todas partes para ver si pueden hallar siquiera una persona justa y honrada! Si encuentran aunque sea una, no destruiré la ciudad.2¡Y es que ustedes mienten hasta cuando juran!3SEÑOR, tú no aceptas sino la verdad. Castigándolos has tratado de hacer que reflexionen y sean honrados, pero no quieren cambiar. Los has arruinado, pero no escarmientan y se niegan a dejar su conducta malvada. Con el rostro como dura piedra por su terquedad, están empecinados en no arrepentirse.4Entonces dije yo: «Pero, ¿qué puede esperarse de los sencillos e ignorantes? No conocen las instrucciones de Dios. ¿Cómo podrán obedecerle?5Iré ahora a sus jefes, a los hombres prominentes y les hablaré, pues ellos conocen bien las instrucciones del SEÑOR y las consecuencias que una conducta malvada acarrea». ¡Pero resulta que también ellos habían rechazado por completo a su Dios!6Entonces lanzaré sobre ellos la tremenda furia de sus enemigos quienes los atacarán como si fueran el león de la selva, los lobos del desierto y el leopardo que ronda en busca de presa, listo a dar el zarpazo a la primera presa que encuentre. Y todo esto como consecuencia de su desobediencia hacia mí y por haberse alejado de las instrucciones que le he dado.7¿Cómo perdonarlos? Porque hasta sus niños se han apartado, y adoran dioses que no lo son. Di de comer a mi pueblo hasta que estuvo satisfecho, y su agradecimiento fue entregarse al adulterio escandalosamente y armar francachelas en los burdeles de la ciudad.8Son como garañones bien nutridos y lascivos, cada cual relinchando en busca de yegua ajena.9¿No los habré de castigar por esto? ¿Tendré que fingir que no me doy cuenta de nada de lo que hacen?10Ataquen la ciudad y causen mucho daño, pero no la destruyan del todo. Desciende a los viñedos y destrúyelos, pero deja con vida unos cuantos esparcidos. Arranca los sarmientos de cada vid, pues no son del SEÑOR.11¡Vaya que se han dado sus mañas para intentar engañarme los pueblos de Israel y Judá!, dice el SEÑOR.12No me han tomado en cuenta para nada, y dicen: «¡Él no nos inquietará! ¡Ningún mal nos sobrevendrá! ¡No habrá hambre ni guerra!13Los profetas de Dios», dicen ellos, «son simples charlatanes: muchas palabras y nada de autoridad divina. La condena con que amenazan caerá sobre ellos, no sobre nosotros».14Por lo tanto, esto es lo que Dios, el SEÑOR de los ejércitos, dice a sus profetas: Por murmuraciones así tomaré sus palabras y predicciones y haré que se cumplan en sus vidas con el efecto que causa un terrible incendio, el cual los consumirá como si fueran simples trozos de madera.15Miren, traeré contra ustedes una nación lejana, oh Israel, dice el SEÑOR, nación poderosa, nación antigua cuya lengua no entiendes.16Mortíferas son sus armas, todos sus hombres son grandes guerreros.17Y ellos devorarán tus cosechas y el pan de tus hijos e hijas, se apropiarán de tus rebaños de ovejas y tu ganado; sí, y también se comerán tus uvas e higos; y saquearán tus ciudades, las que tú considerabas muy seguras por tener fuertes murallas y torreones defensivos.18Pero no los destruiré a ustedes por completo, dice el SEÑOR.19Y cuando su pueblo pregunte: «¿Por qué nos hace esto el SEÑOR, nuestro Dios?» les responderán: «Ustedes lo rechazaron y se entregaron a otros dioses en su tierra, y ahora tendrán que ser esclavos de extranjeros en sus tierras».20Anuncia esto a Judá y a Israel:21Escucha lo que digo, pueblo tonto e insensato, de ojos ciegos y oídos sordos.22¿No me tienen respeto alguno?, pregunta el SEÑOR Dios. ¿Cómo es que ni siquiera tiemblan en mi presencia? Mi poder es tan grande que yo fui quien establecí sus límites a los mares del mundo y ellos por más que se embravezcan y rujan, no podrán traspasarlos. ¿No es de ser temido y respetado un Dios así de poderoso?23-24Pero mi pueblo tiene una voluntad rebelde, se ha apartado de mí y se ha desviado a la idolatría. Aunque yo soy quien les da lluvia cada año en primavera y otoño y les envía el tiempo de las cosechas, no me tienen temor ni respeto.25Y por eso les he retirado estas admirables bendiciones. Su conducta reprobable contra mí les ha privado de aquellos bienes.26Hay entre mi pueblo hombres perversos que acechan víctimas como lo hace un cazador oculto. Arman trampas y redes con mucha habilidad. ¿Y qué es lo que atrapan? ¡Personas!27Como gallinero lleno de pollos, sus hogares están llenos de perversas tramas. ¿Y el resultado?28Ahora son grandes y ricos, bien alimentados y relucientes, y no hay límite para sus maldades. ¡Pero niegan la justicia a los huérfanos y sus derechos a los pobres!29¿He de estarme con los brazos cruzados tolerando esta situación?, pregunta el SEÑOR. ¿No he de castigar a un país que vive en esta situación?30Algo espantoso ha ocurrido en este país:31los profetas anunciando mentiras y los sacerdotes muy contentos apoyándolos. Y al pueblo parece que le gusta esta situación. ¡¿Dónde irá a parar toda esta locura?!
1Run to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, look and take note! Search her squares to see if you can find a man, one who does justice and seeks truth, that I may pardon her. (Gn 18:23; 2 Cr 16:9; Jer 5:7)2Though they say, “As the Lord lives,” yet they swear falsely. (Jer 7:9; Tit 1:16)3O Lord, do not your eyes look for truth? You have struck them down, but they felt no anguish; you have consumed them, but they refused to take correction. They have made their faces harder than rock; they have refused to repent. (Jer 2:30; Ez 3:8)4Then I said, “These are only the poor; they have no sense; for they do not know the way of the Lord, the justice of their God. (Jer 8:7; Miq 3:1)5I will go to the great and will speak to them, for they know the way of the Lord, the justice of their God.” But they all alike had broken the yoke; they had burst the bonds. (Sal 2:3; Sal 107:14; Jer 2:20)6Therefore a lion from the forest shall strike them down; a wolf from the desert shall devastate them. A leopard is watching their cities; everyone who goes out of them shall be torn in pieces, because their transgressions are many, their apostasies are great. (Jer 2:19; Jer 4:7; Os 13:7; Hab 1:8; Sof 3:3)7“How can I pardon you? Your children have forsaken me and have sworn by those who are no gods. When I fed them to the full, they committed adultery and trooped to the houses of whores. (Dt 32:15; Dt 32:21; Jos 23:7; 2 Cr 13:9; Jer 5:1; Jer 9:2; Jer 23:10; Miq 5:1; Gl 4:8)8They were well-fed, lusty stallions, each neighing for his neighbor’s wife. (Jer 13:27; Jer 50:11; Ez 22:11)9Shall I not punish them for these things? declares the Lord; and shall I not avenge myself on a nation such as this? (Jer 5:29; Jer 9:9; Ro 2:2)10“Go up through her vine rows and destroy, but make not a full end; strip away her branches, for they are not the Lord’s. (Jer 4:27; Jer 39:8)11For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have been utterly treacherous to me, declares the Lord. (Jer 3:20)12They have spoken falsely of the Lord and have said, ‘He will do nothing; no disaster will come upon us, nor shall we see sword or famine. (Gn 3:4; Is 28:15; Jer 14:13)13The prophets will become wind; the word is not in them. Thus shall it be done to them!’”
The Lord Proclaims Judgment
14Therefore thus says the Lord, the God of hosts: “Because you have spoken this word, behold, I am making my words in your mouth a fire, and this people wood, and the fire shall consume them. (Jer 1:9; Abd 1:18; Zac 12:6; Ap 11:5)15Behold, I am bringing against you a nation from afar, O house of Israel, declares the Lord. It is an enduring nation; it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language you do not know, nor can you understand what they say. (Dt 28:49; Is 33:19; Jer 1:15; Jer 34:21; Am 6:14)16Their quiver is like an open tomb; they are all mighty warriors. (Sal 5:9; Is 5:28)17They shall eat up your harvest and your food; they shall eat up your sons and your daughters; they shall eat up your flocks and your herds; they shall eat up your vines and your fig trees; your fortified cities in which you trust they shall beat down with the sword.” (Lv 26:16; Dt 28:31; Dt 28:33; Dt 28:51; Os 8:14)18“But even in those days, declares the Lord, I will not make a full end of you. (Jer 5:10)19And when your people say, ‘Why has the Lord our God done all these things to us?’ you shall say to them, ‘As you have forsaken me and served foreign gods in your land, so you shall serve foreigners in a land that is not yours.’” (Dt 4:27; Dt 28:47; Dt 28:68; Dt 29:24; 1 R 9:8; Jer 13:22; Jer 16:10; Jer 22:8)20Declare this in the house of Jacob; proclaim it in Judah:21“Hear this, O foolish and senseless people, who have eyes, but see not, who have ears, but hear not. (Dt 32:6; Is 6:9; Mt 13:14)22Do you not fear me? declares the Lord. Do you not tremble before me? I placed the sand as the boundary for the sea, a perpetual barrier that it cannot pass; though the waves toss, they cannot prevail; though they roar, they cannot pass over it. (Job 26:10; Job 38:10; Sal 46:3; Sal 104:9; Jer 10:7; Jer 51:55)23But this people has a stubborn and rebellious heart; they have turned aside and gone away. (Jer 6:28)24They do not say in their hearts, ‘Let us fear the Lord our God, who gives the rain in its season, the autumn rain and the spring rain, and keeps for us the weeks appointed for the harvest.’ (Gn 8:22; Dt 11:14; Job 5:10; Sal 147:8; Jer 14:22; Mt 5:45)25Your iniquities have turned these away, and your sins have kept good from you. (Jer 3:3)26For wicked men are found among my people; they lurk like fowlers lying in wait.[1] They set a trap; they catch men. (Sal 10:9; Sal 124:7; Pr 1:11)27Like a cage full of birds, their houses are full of deceit; therefore they have become great and rich;28they have grown fat and sleek. They know no bounds in deeds of evil; they judge not with justice the cause of the fatherless, to make it prosper, and they do not defend the rights of the needy. (Dt 32:15; Is 1:23; Jer 7:6; Zac 7:10)29Shall I not punish them for these things? declares the Lord, and shall I not avenge myself on a nation such as this?” (Jer 5:9)30An appalling and horrible thing has happened in the land: (Jer 23:14; Os 6:10)31the prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests rule at their direction; my people love to have it so, but what will you do when the end comes? (Jer 6:13; Jer 14:14; Jer 14:18; Jer 20:6; Jer 23:21; Jer 23:25; Jer 27:10; Jer 27:15; Jer 29:9; Ez 13:6; Miq 2:11)
