1 Dem Musikmeister über die Jeduthuniden; ein Psalm Davids. 2 Nur (im Aufblick) zu Gott ist meine Seele still: von ihm kommt meine Hilfe^[1]; 3 nur er ist mein Fels und meine Hilfe, meine Burg: ich werde nicht allzusehr wanken. 4 Wie lange noch lauft ihr Sturm gegen einen Mann, wollt ihn niederschlagen allesamt wie eine sinkende Wand, eine dem Einsturz nahe Mauer? 5 Ja, von seiner Höhe planen sie ihn zu stoßen; Lügen sind ihre Lust; mit dem Munde segnen sie, doch im Herzen fluchen sie. SELA. 6 Nur (im Aufblick) zu Gott sei still, meine Seele! Denn von ihm kommt meine Hoffnung; 7 nur er ist mein Fels und meine Hilfe^[2], meine Burg: ich werde nicht wanken. 8 Auf Gott beruht mein Heil und meine Ehre; mein starker Fels, meine Zuflucht liegt in Gott. 9 Vertraut auf ihn zu aller Zeit, ihr Volksgenossen, schüttet vor ihm euer Herz aus: Gott ist unsere Zuflucht. SELA. 10 Nur ein Hauch sind Menschensöhne, ein Trug sind Herrensöhne; auf der Waage schnellen sie empor, sind allesamt leichter als ein Hauch. 11 Verlaßt euch nicht auf Erpressung^[3] und setzt nicht eitle Hoffnung auf Raub; wenn der Reichtum sich mehrt, so hängt das Herz nicht daran! 12 Eins ist’s, was Gott gesprochen, und zweierlei ist’s, was ich vernommen, daß die Macht bei Gott steht. 13 Und bei dir, o Allherr, steht auch die Gnade: ja, du vergiltst einem jeden nach seinem Tun.

1 It is surely true that I find my rest in God. He is the God who saves me. 2 It is surely true that he is my rock. He is the God who saves me. He is like a fort to me. I will always be secure. 3 How long will you enemies attack me? Will all of you throw me down? I’m like a leaning wall. I’m like a fence about to fall. 4 Surely my enemies only want to pull me down from my place of honour. They take delight in telling lies. They bless me with what they say. But in their hearts they ask for bad things to happen to me. 5 Yes, I must find my rest in God. He is the God who gives me hope. 6 It is surely true that he is my rock and the God who saves me. He is like a fort to me, so I will always be secure. 7 I depend on God to save me and to honour me. He is my mighty rock and my place of safety. 8 Trust in him at all times, you people. Tell him all your troubles. God is our place of safety. 9 Surely ordinary people are only a breath. Important people are not what they seem to be. If they were weighed on a scale, they wouldn’t amount to anything. Together they are only a breath. 10 Don’t trust in money you have taken from others. Don’t put false hope in things you have stolen. Even if your riches grow, don’t put your trust in them. 11 God, I have heard you say two things. One is that power belongs to you, God. 12 The other is that your love, Lord, never ends. You will reward everyone in keeping with what they have done.

My Soul Waits for God Alone

1 To the choirmaster: according to Jeduthun. A Psalm of David. For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation. (Ps 33,20; Ps 37,7; Ps 39,1) 2 He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken. (Ps 9,9; Ps 10,6; Ps 18,2) 3 How long will all of you attack a man to batter him, like a leaning wall, a tottering fence? (Jes 30,13) 4 They only plan to thrust him down from his high position. They take pleasure in falsehood. They bless with their mouths, but inwardly they curse. (Hi 13,11; Ps 28,3) 5 For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him. (Ps 62,1) 6 He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken. (Ps 62,2) 7 On God rests my salvation and my glory; my mighty rock, my refuge is God. (Ps 3,8; Ps 14,6) 8 Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us.
