Paulus, Apostel der Heiden

1 Paulus, ein Knecht Christi Jesu, berufen zum Apostel, ausgesondert zu predigen das Evangelium Gottes, (Apg 9,15; Apg 13,2; Gal 1,15) 

2 das er zuvor verheißen hat durch seine Propheten in der Heiligen Schrift, (Lk 1,70; Röm 16,25; Tit 1,2) 

3 von seinem Sohn, der geboren ist aus dem Geschlecht Davids nach dem Fleisch, (2Sam 7,12; Mt 22,42; Joh 7,42; Röm 9,5) 

4 der eingesetzt ist als Sohn Gottes in Kraft nach dem Geist, der da heiligt, durch die Auferstehung von den Toten – Jesus Christus, unserm Herrn. (Apg 13,33) 

5 Durch ihn haben wir empfangen Gnade und Apostelamt, den Gehorsam des Glaubens um seines Namens willen aufzurichten unter allen Heiden, (Apg 26,16; Röm 15,18; Gal 2,7; Gal 2,9) 

6 zu denen auch ihr gehört, die ihr berufen seid von Jesus Christus. 

7 An alle Geliebten Gottes und berufenen Heiligen in Rom: Gnade sei mit euch und Friede von Gott, unserm Vater, und dem Herrn Jesus Christus! (1Kor 1,2; Eph 1,1) 

Der Wunsch des Paulus, nach Rom zu kommen

8 Zuerst danke ich meinem Gott durch Jesus Christus für euch alle, dass man von eurem Glauben in aller Welt spricht. (Röm 16,19; 1Kor 1,4) 

9 Denn Gott ist mein Zeuge, dem ich in meinem Geist diene durch das Evangelium von seinem Sohn, dass ich ohne Unterlass euer gedenke (2Kor 1,23; Eph 1,16; Phil 1,8; 1Thess 1,2; 1Thess 2,5) 

10 und allezeit in meinem Gebet flehe, ob sich’s wohl einmal fügen möchte durch Gottes Willen, dass ich zu euch komme. (Apg 19,21; Röm 15,23; Röm 15,32) 

11 Denn mich verlangt danach, euch zu sehen, damit ich euch etwas mitteile an geistlicher Gabe, um euch zu stärken, 

12 das ist, dass ich zusammen mit euch getröstet werde durch euren und meinen Glauben, den wir miteinander haben. 

13 Ich will euch aber nicht verschweigen, Brüder und Schwestern, dass ich mir oft vorgenommen habe, zu euch zu kommen – wurde aber bisher gehindert –, damit ich auch unter euch Frucht schaffe wie unter andern Heiden. (Röm 15,22) 

14 Griechen und Nichtgriechen, Weisen und Nichtweisen bin ich es schuldig; 

15 darum, soviel an mir liegt, bin ich willens, auch euch in Rom das Evangelium zu predigen. 

Das Evangelium als Kraft Gottes

16 Denn ich schäme mich des Evangeliums nicht; denn es ist eine Kraft Gottes, die selig macht alle, die glauben, die Juden zuerst und ebenso die Griechen. (Ps 119,46; Apg 13,46; Röm 2,10; 1Kor 1,18; 1Kor 1,24; 2Tim 1,8) 

17 Denn darin wird offenbart die Gerechtigkeit, die vor Gott gilt, welche kommt aus Glauben in Glauben; wie geschrieben steht: »Der Gerechte wird aus Glauben leben.« (Röm 3,21; Gal 3,11; Hebr 10,38) 

Die Gottlosigkeit der Heiden

18 Denn Gottes Zorn wird vom Himmel her offenbart über alles gottlose Leben und alle Ungerechtigkeit der Menschen, die die Wahrheit durch Ungerechtigkeit niederhalten. 

19 Denn was man von Gott erkennen kann, ist unter ihnen offenbar; denn Gott hat es ihnen offenbart. (Apg 14,15; Apg 17,24) 

20 Denn sein unsichtbares Wesen – das ist seine ewige Kraft und Gottheit – wird seit der Schöpfung der Welt, wenn man es mit Vernunft wahrnimmt, an seinen Werken ersehen. Darum haben sie keine Entschuldigung. (Ps 8,4; Ps 19,2) 

21 Denn obwohl sie von Gott wussten, haben sie ihn nicht als Gott gepriesen noch ihm gedankt, sondern sind dem Nichtigen verfallen in ihren Gedanken, und ihr unverständiges Herz ist verfinstert. (Eph 4,18) 

22 Die sich für Weise hielten, sind zu Narren geworden (1Kor 1,20) 

23 und haben die Herrlichkeit des unvergänglichen Gottes vertauscht mit einem Bild gleich dem eines vergänglichen Menschen und der Vögel und der vierfüßigen und der kriechenden Tiere. (2Mo 20,4; 5Mo 4,15; Ps 106,19; Jer 2,11) 

24 Darum hat Gott sie in den Begierden ihrer Herzen dahingegeben in die Unreinheit, sodass sie ihre Leiber selbst entehren. 

25 Sie haben Gottes Wahrheit in Lüge verkehrt und das Geschöpf verehrt und ihm gedient statt dem Schöpfer, der gelobt ist in Ewigkeit. Amen. 

26 Darum hat sie Gott dahingegeben in schändliche Leidenschaften; denn bei ihnen haben Frauen den natürlichen Verkehr vertauscht mit dem widernatürlichen; 

27 desgleichen haben auch die Männer den natürlichen Verkehr mit der Frau verlassen und sind in Begierde zueinander entbrannt und haben Männer mit Männern Schande über sich gebracht und den Lohn für ihre Verirrung, wie es ja sein musste, an sich selbst empfangen. (3Mo 18,22; 3Mo 20,13; 1Kor 6,9) 

28 Und wie sie es für nichts geachtet haben, Gott zu erkennen, hat sie Gott dahingegeben in verkehrten Sinn, sodass sie tun, was nicht recht ist, 

29 voll von aller Ungerechtigkeit, Schlechtigkeit, Habgier, Bosheit, voll Neid, Mord, Hader, List, Niedertracht; Ohrenbläser, 

30 Verleumder, Gottesverächter, Frevler, hochmütig, prahlerisch, erfinderisch im Bösen, den Eltern ungehorsam, 

31 unvernünftig, treulos, lieblos, unbarmherzig. 

32 Sie wissen, dass nach Gottes Recht den Tod verdienen, die solches tun; aber sie tun es nicht nur selbst, sondern haben auch Gefallen an denen, die es tun.

1 Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God, 

2 (Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,) 

3 Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; 

4 And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead: 

5 By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name: 

6 Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ: 

7 To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ. 

8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world. 

9 For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers; 

10 Making request, if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous journey by the will of God to come unto you. 

11 For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established; 

12 That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me. 

13 Now I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that oftentimes I purposed to come unto you, (but was let hitherto,) that I might have some fruit among you also, even as among other Gentiles. 

14 I am debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to the unwise. 

15 So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also. 

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. 

17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. 

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; 

19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. 

20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: 

21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 

22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 

23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. 

24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 

25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. 

26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 

27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. 

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 

29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 

30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 

31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: 

32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

1 Paolo, servo di Cristo Gesù, chiamato a essere apostolo, messo a parte per il vangelo di Dio, 

2 che egli aveva già promesso per mezzo dei suoi profeti nelle sante Scritture 

3 riguardo al Figlio suo, nato dalla stirpe di Davide secondo la carne, 

4 dichiarato Figlio di Dio con potenza secondo lo Spirito di santità mediante la risurrezione dai morti; cioè Gesù Cristo, nostro Signore, 

5 per mezzo del quale abbiamo ricevuto grazia e apostolato perché si ottenga l'ubbidienza della fede fra tutti gli stranieri, per il suo nome – 

6 fra i quali siete anche voi, chiamati da Gesù Cristo – 

7 a quanti sono in Roma, amati da Dio, chiamati santi, grazia a voi e pace da Dio nostro Padre, e dal Signore Gesù Cristo. 

I sentimenti di Paolo verso i cristiani di Roma

8 Prima di tutto rendo grazie al mio Dio per mezzo di Gesù Cristo riguardo a tutti voi, perché la vostra fede è divulgata in tutto il mondo. 

9 Dio, che servo nel mio spirito annunciando il vangelo del Figlio suo, mi è testimone che faccio continuamente menzione di voi 

10 chiedendo sempre nelle mie preghiere che in qualche modo finalmente, per volontà di Dio, io riesca a venire da voi. 

11 Infatti desidero vivamente vedervi per comunicarvi qualche dono, affinché siate fortificati; 

12 o meglio, perché quando sarò tra di voi ci confortiamo a vicenda mediante la fede che abbiamo in comune, voi e io. 

13 Non voglio che ignoriate, fratelli, che molte volte mi sono proposto di recarmi da voi (ma finora ne sono stato impedito) per avere qualche frutto anche tra di voi, come fra le altre nazioni. 

14 Io sono debitore verso i Greci come verso i barbari, verso i sapienti come verso gli ignoranti; 

15 così, per quanto dipende da me, sono pronto ad annunciare il vangelo anche a voi che siete a Roma. 

Giustizia attraverso la fede, tema della lettera

16 Infatti non mi vergogno del vangelo; perché esso è potenza di Dio per la salvezza di chiunque crede, del Giudeo prima e poi del Greco; 

17 poiché in esso la giustizia di Dio è rivelata da fede a fede, com’è scritto: «Il giusto per fede vivrà». 

I peccati dei pagani

18 L’ira di Dio si rivela dal cielo contro ogni empietà e ingiustizia degli uomini che soffocano la verità con l’ingiustizia; 

19 poiché quel che si può conoscere di Dio è manifesto in loro, avendolo Dio manifestato loro; 

20 infatti le sue qualità invisibili, la sua eterna potenza e divinità, si vedono chiaramente fin dalla creazione del mondo, essendo percepite per mezzo delle opere sue; perciò essi sono inescusabili, 

21 perché, pur avendo conosciuto Dio, non lo hanno glorificato come Dio, né lo hanno ringraziato; ma si sono dati a vani ragionamenti e il loro cuore privo d’intelligenza si è ottenebrato. 

22 Benché si dichiarino sapienti, sono diventati stolti, 

23 e hanno mutato la gloria del Dio incorruttibile in immagini simili a quelle dell’uomo corruttibile, di uccelli, di quadrupedi e di rettili. 

24 Per questo Dio li ha abbandonati all’impurità, secondo i desideri dei loro cuori, in modo da disonorare fra di loro i loro corpi; 

25 essi, che hanno mutato la verità di Dio in menzogna e hanno adorato e servito la creatura invece del Creatore, che è benedetto in eterno. Amen. 

26 Perciò Dio li ha abbandonati a passioni infami: infatti le loro donne hanno cambiato l’uso naturale in quello che è contro natura; 

27 similmente anche gli uomini, lasciando il rapporto naturale con la donna, si sono infiammati nella loro libidine gli uni per gli altri commettendo uomini con uomini atti infami, ricevendo in loro stessi la meritata ricompensa del proprio traviamento. 

28 Siccome non si sono curati di conoscere Dio, Dio li ha abbandonati in balìa della loro mente perversa sì che facessero ciò che è sconveniente; 

29 ricolmi di ogni ingiustizia, malvagità, cupidigia, malizia; pieni di invidia, di omicidio, di contesa, di frode, di malignità; 

30 calunniatori, maldicenti, abominevoli a Dio, insolenti, superbi, vanagloriosi, ingegnosi nel male, ribelli ai genitori, 

31 insensati, sleali, senza affetti naturali, spietati. 

32 Essi, pur conoscendo che secondo i decreti di Dio quelli che fanno tali cose sono degni di morte, non soltanto le fanno, ma anche approvano chi le commette.

1 Pablo, siervo de Cristo Jesús, llamado a ser apóstol, apartado para anunciar el evangelio de Dios, 

2 que por medio de sus profetas ya había prometido en las sagradas Escrituras. 

3 Este evangelio habla de su Hijo, que según la naturaleza humana era descendiente de David, 

4 pero que según el Espíritu de santidad fue designadocon poder Hijo de Dios por la resurrección. Él es Jesucristo nuestro Señor. 

5 Por medio de él, y en honor a su nombre, recibimos el don apostólico para persuadir a todas las naciones que obedezcan a la fe. 

6 Entre ellas están incluidos también ustedes, a quienes Jesucristo ha llamado. 

7 Les escribo a todos ustedes, los amados de Dios que están en Roma, que han sido llamados a ser santos. Que Dios nuestro Padre y el Señor Jesucristo les concedan gracia y paz. 

Pablo anhela visitar Roma

8 En primer lugar, por medio de Jesucristo doy gracias a mi Dios por todos ustedes, pues en el mundo entero se habla bien de su fe. 

9 Dios, a quien sirvo de corazón predicando el evangelio de su Hijo, me es testigo de que los recuerdo a ustedes sin cesar. 

10 Siempre pido en mis oraciones que, si es la voluntad de Dios, por fin se me abra ahora el camino para ir a visitarlos. 

11 Tengo muchos deseos de verlos para impartirles algún don espiritual que los fortalezca; 

12 mejor dicho, para que unos a otros nos animemos con la fe que compartimos. 

13 Quiero que sepan, hermanos, que aunque hasta ahora no he podido visitarlos, muchas veces me he propuesto hacerlo, para recoger algún fruto entre ustedes, tal como lo he recogido entre las otras naciones. 

14 Estoy en deuda con todos, sean cultos o incultos,instruidos o ignorantes. 

15 De allí mi gran anhelo de predicarles el evangelio también a ustedes que están en Roma. 

16 A la verdad, no me avergüenzo del evangelio, pues es poder de Dios para la salvación de todos los que creen: de los judíos primeramente, pero también de los gentiles. 

17 De hecho, en el evangelio se revela la justicia que proviene de Dios, la cual es por fe de principio a fin, tal como está escrito: «El justo vivirá por la fe.» 

La ira de Dios contra la humanidad

18 Ciertamente, la ira de Dios viene revelándose desde el cielo contra toda impiedad e injusticia de los seres humanos, que con su maldad obstruyen la verdad. 

19 Me explico: lo que se puede conocer acerca de Dios es evidente para ellos, pues él mismo se lo ha revelado. 

20 Porque desde la creación del mundo las cualidades invisibles de Dios, es decir, su eterno poder y su naturaleza divina, se perciben claramente a través de lo que él creó, de modo que nadie tiene excusa. 

21 A pesar de haber conocido a Dios, no lo glorificaron como a Dios ni le dieron gracias, sino que se extraviaron en sus inútiles razonamientos, y se les oscureció su insensato corazón. 

22 Aunque afirmaban ser sabios, se volvieron necios 

23 y cambiaron la gloria del Dios inmortal por imágenes que eran réplicas del hombre mortal, de las aves, de los cuadrúpedos y de los reptiles. 

24 Por eso Dios los entregó a los malos deseos de sus corazones, que conducen a la impureza sexual, de modo que degradaron sus cuerpos los unos con los otros. 

25 Cambiaron la verdad de Dios por la mentira, adorando y sirviendo a los seres creados antes que al Creador, quien es bendito por siempre. Amén. 

26 Por tanto, Dios los entregó a pasiones vergonzosas. En efecto, las mujeres cambiaron las relaciones naturales por las que van contra la naturaleza. 

27 Así mismo los hombres dejaron las relaciones naturales con la mujer y se encendieron en pasiones lujuriosas los unos con los otros. Hombres con hombres cometieron actos indecentes, y en sí mismos recibieron el castigo que merecía su perversión. 

28 Además, como estimaron que no valía la pena tomar en cuenta el conocimiento de Dios, él a su vez los entregó a la depravación mental, para que hicieran lo que no debían hacer. 

29 Se han llenado de toda clase de maldad, perversidad, avaricia y depravación. Están repletos de envidia, homicidios, disensiones, engaño y malicia. Son chismosos, 

30 calumniadores, enemigos de Dios, insolentes, soberbios y arrogantes; se ingenian maldades; se rebelan contra sus padres; 

31 son insensatos, desleales, insensibles, despiadados. 

32 Saben bien que, según el justo decreto de Dios, quienes practican tales cosas merecen la muerte; sin embargo, no sólo siguen practicándolas sino que incluso aprueban a quienes las practican.
