1Sechs Tage vor dem Passafest kam Jesus nach Betanien, wo Lazarus war, den Jesus auferweckt hatte von den Toten. Der Einzug in Jerusalem
12Als am nächsten Tag die große Menge, die aufs Fest gekommen war, hörte, dass Jesus nach Jerusalem kommen werde, (Mt 21,1; Mk 11,1; Lk 19,29)13nahmen sie Palmzweige und gingen hinaus ihm entgegen und schrien: Hosianna! Gelobt sei, der da kommt im Namen des Herrn, der König von Israel! (Ps 118,25)14Jesus aber fand einen jungen Esel und setzte sich darauf, wie geschrieben steht:15»Fürchte dich nicht, du Tochter Zion! Siehe, dein König kommt und reitet auf einem Eselsfüllen.«16Das verstanden seine Jünger zuerst nicht; doch als Jesus verherrlicht war, da dachten sie daran, dass dies von ihm geschrieben stand und man so an ihm getan hatte.17Die Menge aber, die bei ihm war, als er Lazarus aus dem Grabe rief und von den Toten auferweckte, bezeugte die Tat.18Darum ging ihm auch die Menge entgegen, weil sie hörte, er habe dieses Zeichen getan.19Die Pharisäer aber sprachen untereinander: Ihr seht, dass ihr nichts ausrichtet; siehe, alle Welt läuft ihm nach. Die Ankündigung der Verherrlichung
20Es waren aber einige Griechen unter denen, die heraufgekommen waren, um anzubeten auf dem Fest.21Die traten zu Philippus, der aus Betsaida in Galiläa war, und baten ihn und sprachen: Herr, wir wollen Jesus sehen. (Joh 1,44)22Philippus kommt und sagt es Andreas, und Andreas und Philippus sagen’s Jesus.23Jesus aber antwortete ihnen und sprach: Die Stunde ist gekommen, dass der Menschensohn verherrlicht werde.24Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Wenn das Weizenkorn nicht in die Erde fällt und erstirbt, bleibt es allein; wenn es aber erstirbt, bringt es viel Frucht. (Röm 14,9; 1Kor 15,36)25Wer sein Leben lieb hat, der verliert es; und wer sein Leben auf dieser Welt hasst, der wird’s bewahren zum ewigen Leben. Wandelt, solange ihr das Licht habt, dass euch die Finsternis nicht überfalle. Wer in der Finsternis wandelt, der weiß nicht, wo er hingeht. (Joh 11,10)36Glaubt an das Licht, solange ihr’s habt, auf dass ihr des Lichtes Kinder werdet. Das redete Jesus und ging weg und verbarg sich vor ihnen. (Eph 5,8)
Der Unglaube des Volkes
37Und obwohl er solche Zeichen vor ihren Augen getan hatte, glaubten sie doch nicht an ihn,38auf dass erfüllt werde der Spruch des Propheten Jesaja, den er sagte: »Herr, wer glaubt unserm Predigen? Und wem ist der Arm des Herrn offenbart?«39Darum konnten sie nicht glauben, denn Jesaja sagte wiederum:40»Er hat ihre Augen verblendet und ihr Herz verstockt, dass sie mit den Augen nicht sehen noch mit dem Herzen verstehen und sich bekehren und ich ihnen helfe[1].« (Mt 13,14; Apg 28,27)41Das sagte Jesaja, weil er seine Herrlichkeit sah und von ihm redete. Mary Anoints Jesus at Bethany
1Six days before the Passover, Jesus therefore came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. (Mt 26,6; Mk 14,3; Joh 11,1; Joh 11,55; Joh 12,12; Joh 12,20)2So they gave a dinner for him there. Martha served, and Lazarus was one of those reclining with him at table. (Lk 10,38; Lk 10,40)3Mary therefore took a pound[1] of expensive ointment made from pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. (Lk 7,37)4But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples (he who was about to betray him), said,5“Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii[2] and given to the poor?” (Joh 13,29)6He said this, not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief, and having charge of the moneybag he used to help himself to what was put into it. (Joh 12,5)7Jesus said, “Leave her alone, so that she may keep it[3] for the day of my burial.8For the poor you always have with you, but you do not always have me.”
The Plot to Kill Lazarus
9When the large crowd of the Jews learned that Jesus[4] was there, they came, not only on account of him but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. (Joh 11,44)10So the chief priests made plans to put Lazarus to death as well, (Lk 16,31)11because on account of him many of the Jews were going away and believing in Jesus. (Joh 11,45; Joh 12,18)
The Triumphal Entry
12The next day the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. (Mt 21,4; Mk 11,7; Lk 19,35)13So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!” (Ps 118,25; Joh 1,49; Joh 5,43; Offb 7,9)14And Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written,15“Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey’s colt!” (Sach 9,9)16His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about him and had been done to him. (Mk 9,32; Joh 2,22; Joh 7,39; Joh 12,23; Joh 13,7)17The crowd that had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to bear witness. Some Greeks Seek Jesus
20Now among those who went up to worship at the feast were some Greeks. Jesus Came to Save the World
