1Als Jesus das geredet hatte, ging er hinaus mit seinen Jüngern über den Bach Kidron; da war ein Garten, in den gingen er und seine Jünger. (Mt 26,1; Mk 14,1; Lk 22,1)2Judas aber, der ihn verriet, kannte den Ort auch, denn Jesus versammelte sich oft dort mit seinen Jüngern. (Lk 21,37)3Als nun Judas die Schar der Soldaten mit sich genommen hatte und Knechte der Hohenpriester und Pharisäer, kommt er dahin mit Fackeln, Lampen und mit Waffen.4Da nun Jesus alles wusste, was ihm begegnen sollte, ging er hinaus und sprach zu ihnen: Wen sucht ihr?5Sie antworteten ihm: Jesus von Nazareth. Er spricht zu ihnen: Ich bin’s! Judas aber, der ihn verriet, stand auch bei ihnen.6Als nun Jesus zu ihnen sprach: Ich bin’s!, wichen sie zurück und fielen zu Boden.7Da fragte er sie abermals: Wen sucht ihr? Sie aber sprachen: Jesus von Nazareth.8Jesus antwortete: Ich habe euch gesagt: Ich bin’s. Sucht ihr mich, so lasst diese gehen!9Damit sollte das Wort erfüllt werden, das er gesagt hatte: Ich habe keinen von denen verloren, die du mir gegeben hast. (Joh 17,12)10Nun hatte Simon Petrus ein Schwert und zog es und schlug nach dem Knecht des Hohenpriesters und hieb ihm sein rechtes Ohr ab. Und der Knecht hieß Malchus.11Da sprach Jesus zu Petrus: Steck das Schwert in die Scheide! Soll ich den Kelch nicht trinken, den mir der Vater gegeben hat?
Jesu Verhör vor Hannas und Kaiphas und die Verleugnung des Petrus
12Die Schar aber und ihr Oberst und die Knechte der Juden nahmen Jesus und banden ihn13und führten ihn zuerst zu Hannas; der war der Schwiegervater des Kaiphas, der in jenem Jahr Hoherpriester war.14Kaiphas aber war es, der den Juden geraten hatte, es wäre gut, ein Mensch stürbe für das Volk. (Lk 3,1; Joh 11,49)15Simon Petrus aber folgte Jesus nach und ein anderer Jünger. Dieser Jünger war dem Hohenpriester bekannt und ging mit Jesus hinein in den Palast des Hohenpriesters.16Petrus aber stand draußen vor der Tür. Da kam der andere Jünger, der dem Hohenpriester bekannt war, heraus und redete mit der Türhüterin und führte Petrus hinein.17Da sprach die Magd, die Türhüterin, zu Petrus: Bist du nicht auch einer von den Jüngern dieses Menschen? Er sprach: Ich bin’s nicht.18Es standen da aber die Knechte und Diener und hatten ein Kohlenfeuer gemacht, denn es war kalt, und sie wärmten sich. Aber auch Petrus stand bei ihnen und wärmte sich.19Der Hohepriester befragte nun Jesus über seine Jünger und über seine Lehre.20Jesus antwortete ihm: Ich habe frei und offen vor aller Welt geredet. Ich habe allezeit gelehrt in der Synagoge und im Tempel, wo alle Juden zusammenkommen, und habe nichts im Verborgenen geredet. (Joh 7,14; Joh 7,26)21Was fragst du mich? Frage die, die gehört haben, was ich zu ihnen geredet habe. Siehe, sie wissen, was ich gesagt habe.22Als er so redete, schlug einer von den Dienern, der dabeistand, Jesus ins Gesicht und sprach: Sollst du dem Hohenpriester so antworten?23Jesus antwortete ihm: Habe ich übel geredet, so beweise, dass es übel ist; habe ich aber recht geredet, was schlägst du mich?24Und Hannas sandte ihn gebunden zu dem Hohenpriester Kaiphas.25Simon Petrus aber stand da und wärmte sich. Da sprachen sie zu ihm: Bist du nicht einer seiner Jünger? Er leugnete aber und sprach: Ich bin’s nicht.26Spricht einer von den Knechten des Hohenpriesters, ein Verwandter dessen, dem Petrus das Ohr abgehauen hatte: Sah ich dich nicht im Garten bei ihm?27Da leugnete Petrus abermals, und alsbald krähte der Hahn.
Jesu Verhör vor Pilatus
28Da führten sie Jesus von Kaiphas vor das Prätorium; es war aber früh am Morgen. Und sie gingen nicht hinein in das Prätorium, damit sie nicht unrein würden, sondern das Passamahl essen könnten.29Da kam Pilatus zu ihnen heraus und sprach: Was für eine Klage bringt ihr vor gegen diesen Menschen?30Sie antworteten und sprachen zu ihm: Wäre dieser nicht ein Übeltäter, wir hätten dir ihn nicht überantwortet.31Da sprach Pilatus zu ihnen: So nehmt ihr ihn und richtet ihn nach eurem Gesetz. Da sprachen die Juden zu ihm: Es ist uns nicht erlaubt, jemanden zu töten. (Joh 19,6)32So sollte das Wort Jesu erfüllt werden, das er gesagt hatte, um anzuzeigen, welchen Todes er sterben würde. (Mt 20,19; Joh 12,32)33Da ging Pilatus wieder hinein ins Prätorium und rief Jesus und sprach zu ihm: Bist du der Juden König?[1]34Jesus antwortete: Sagst du das von dir aus, oder haben dir’s andere über mich gesagt?35Pilatus antwortete: Bin ich ein Jude? Dein Volk und die Hohenpriester haben dich mir überantwortet. Was hast du getan?36Jesus antwortete: Mein Reich ist nicht von dieser Welt. Wäre mein Reich von dieser Welt, meine Diener würden darum kämpfen, dass ich den Juden nicht überantwortet würde; aber nun ist mein Reich nicht von hier.37Da sprach Pilatus zu ihm: So bist du dennoch ein König? Jesus antwortete: Du sagst es: Ich bin ein König. Ich bin dazu geboren und in die Welt gekommen, dass ich die Wahrheit bezeuge. Wer aus der Wahrheit ist, der hört meine Stimme. (1Tim 6,13)38Spricht Pilatus zu ihm: Was ist Wahrheit? Und als er das gesagt hatte, ging er wieder hinaus zu den Juden und spricht zu ihnen: Ich finde keine Schuld an ihm.39Ihr habt aber die Gewohnheit, dass ich euch einen zum Passafest losgebe; wollt ihr nun, dass ich euch den König der Juden losgebe?40Da schrien sie wiederum: Nicht diesen, sondern Barabbas! Barabbas aber war ein Räuber.

Jézus kihallgatása Annás és Kajafás előtt
12A csapat pedig, az ezredes és a zsidók szolgái megfogták Jézust, és megkötözték őt,13és először Annáshoz vitték, mert ő apósa volt Kajafásnak, aki abban az esztendőben főpap volt.14Kajafás volt az, aki azt tanácsolta a zsidóknak, hogy jobb, hogy egy ember vesszen el a népért.15Simon Péter és egy másik tanítvány követte Jézust. Kérdezd azokat, akik hallották, mit beszéltem nekik: íme, ők tudják, amiket nekik mondtam.“22Amikor pedig ezeket mondta, egy a poroszlók közül, aki ott állt, arcul ütötte Jézust, és ezt mondta: „Így felelsz a főpapnak?“23Jézus így felelt neki: „Ha gonoszul szóltam, tégy bizonyságot a gonoszságról, ha pedig jól, miért versz engem?“24Annás ezután elküldte őt megkötözve Kajafáshoz, a főpaphoz.25Simon Péter pedig ott állt, és melegedett. Jézus kihallgatása Pilátus előtt
28Jézust pedig Kajafástól a törvényházba vitték. Kora reggel volt. Ők nem mentek be a törvényházba, hogy ne legyenek tisztátalanná, és megehessék a húsvéti bárányt.29Pilátus ekkor kiment hozzájuk, és mondta: „Milyen vádat hoztok fel ez ellen az ember ellen?“30Ezt felelték neki: „Ha ez nem volna gonosztevő, nem adtuk volna őt a te kezedbe.“31Pilátus erre azt mondta nekik: „Vigyétek el őt ti, és ítéljétek el a ti törvényeitek szerint.“ A zsidók így feleltek: „Nékünk senkit sem szabad megölnünk.“32Hogy beteljesedjék Jézus szava, amelyet mondott, amikor jelezte, hogy milyen halállal kell majd meghalnia.33Ismét bement Pilátus a törvényházba, szólította Jézust, és mondta neki: „Te vagy a zsidók királya?“34Jézus így felelt: „Magadtól mondod-e ezt, vagy mások beszélték neked rólam?“35Pilátus így felelt: „Talán zsidó vagyok én? A te néped és a papi fejedelmek adtak téged az én kezembe: mit cselekedtél?“36Jézus ezt felelte: „Az én országom nem e világból való. De az én országom nem innen való.“37Pilátus ezt mondta neki: „Király vagy-e hát te csakugyan?“ Jézus így felelt: „Te mondod, hogy én király vagyok. Én azért születtem, és azért jöttem e világra, hogy bizonyságot tegyek az igazságról. Mindenki, aki az igazságból való, hallgat az én szavamra.“38Pilátus ezt mondta neki: „Mi az igazság?“ És amint ezt mondta, újra kiment a zsidókhoz, és mondta nekik: „Én nem találok benne semmi bűnt.39Szokás pedig nálatok, hogy szabadon bocsássak nektek valakit a húsvét ünnepén: akarjátok-e azért, hogy elbocsássam nektek a zsidók királyát?“40Ekkor ismét mindnyájan kiáltozni kezdtek: „Nem ezt, hanem Barabbást.“ Ez a Barabbás pedig tolvaj volt.
1When he had finished praying, Jesus left with his disciples and crossed the Kidron Valley. On the other side there was a garden, and he and his disciples went into it.2Now Judas, who betrayed him, knew the place, because Jesus had often met there with his disciples.3So Judas came to the garden, guiding a detachment of soldiers and some officials from the chief priests and the Pharisees. They were carrying torches, lanterns and weapons.4Jesus, knowing all that was going to happen to him, went out and asked them, ‘Who is it you want?’5‘Jesus of Nazareth,’ they replied. ‘I am he,’ Jesus said. (And Judas the traitor was standing there with them.)6When Jesus said, ‘I am he,’ they drew back and fell to the ground.7Again he asked them, ‘Who is it you want?’ ‘Jesus of Nazareth,’ they said.8Jesus answered, ‘I told you that I am he. If you are looking for me, then let these men go.’9This happened so that the words he had spoken would be fulfilled: ‘I have not lost one of those you gave me.’ (Joh 6,39)10Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s servant, cutting off his right ear. (The servant’s name was Malchus.)11Jesus commanded Peter, ‘Put your sword away! Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me?’12Then the detachment of soldiers with its commander and the Jewish officials arrested Jesus. They bound him13and brought him first to Annas, who was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, the high priest that year.14Caiaphas was the one who had advised the Jewish leaders that it would be good if one man died for the people.
Peter’s first denial
15Simon Peter and another disciple were following Jesus. Because this disciple was known to the high priest, he went with Jesus into the high priest’s courtyard,16but Peter had to wait outside at the door. The other disciple, who was known to the high priest, came back, spoke to the servant-girl on duty there and brought Peter in.17‘You aren’t one of this man’s disciples too, are you?’ she asked Peter. He replied, ‘I am not.’18It was cold, and the servants and officials stood round a fire they had made to keep warm. Peter also was standing with them, warming himself.
The high priest questions Jesus
19Meanwhile, the high priest questioned Jesus about his disciples and his teaching.20‘I have spoken openly to the world,’ Jesus replied. ‘I always taught in synagogues or at the temple, where all the Jews come together. I said nothing in secret.21Why question me? Ask those who heard me. Surely they know what I said.’22When Jesus said this, one of the officials near by slapped him in the face. ‘Is this the way you answer the high priest?’ he demanded.23‘If I said something wrong,’ Jesus replied, ‘testify as to what is wrong. But if I spoke the truth, why did you strike me?’24Then Annas sent him bound to Caiaphas the high priest.
Peter’s second and third denials
25Meanwhile, Simon Peter was still standing there warming himself. So they asked him, ‘You aren’t one of his disciples too, are you?’ He denied it, saying, ‘I am not.’26One of the high priest’s servants, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, challenged him, ‘Didn’t I see you with him in the garden?’27Again Peter denied it, and at that moment a cock began to crow.
Jesus before Pilate
28Then the Jewish leaders took Jesus from Caiaphas to the palace of the Roman governor. By now it was early morning, and to avoid ceremonial uncleanness they did not enter the palace, because they wanted to be able to eat the Passover.29So Pilate came out to them and asked, ‘What charges are you bringing against this man?’30‘If he were not a criminal,’ they replied, ‘we would not have handed him over to you.’31Pilate said, ‘Take him yourselves and judge him by your own law.’ ‘But we have no right to execute anyone,’ they objected.32This took place to fulfil what Jesus had said about the kind of death he was going to die.33Pilate then went back inside the palace, summoned Jesus and asked him, ‘Are you the king of the Jews?’34‘Is that your own idea,’ Jesus asked, ‘or did others talk to you about me?’35‘Am I a Jew?’ Pilate replied. ‘Your own people and chief priests handed you over to me. What is it you have done?’36Jesus said, ‘My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.’37‘You are a king, then!’ said Pilate. Jesus answered, ‘You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.’38‘What is truth?’ retorted Pilate. With this he went out again to the Jews gathered there and said, ‘I find no basis for a charge against him.39But it is your custom for me to release to you one prisoner at the time of the Passover. Do you want me to release “the king of the Jews”?’40They shouted back, ‘No, not him! Give us Barabbas!’ Now Barabbas had taken part in an uprising.
1When Jesus had spoken these words, he went out with his disciples across the brook Kidron, where there was a garden, which he and his disciples entered. Jesus Faces Annas and Caiaphas
12So the band of soldiers and their captain and the officers of the Jews[4] arrested Jesus and bound him.13First they led him to Annas, for he was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, who was high priest that year. (Mt 26,3; Mt 26,57; Lk 3,2; Joh 18,24; Joh 18,28; Apg 4,6)14It was Caiaphas who had advised the Jews that it would be expedient that one man should die for the people. (Joh 11,50)
Peter Denies Jesus
15Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple. Since that disciple was known to the high priest, he entered with Jesus into the courtyard of the high priest, (Mt 26,58; Mk 14,54; Lk 22,54)16but Peter stood outside at the door. So the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to the servant girl who kept watch at the door, and brought Peter in. (Mt 26,69; Mk 14,66; Lk 22,55)17The servant girl at the door said to Peter, “You also are not one of this man’s disciples, are you?” He said, “I am not.” (Apg 12,13)18Now the servants[5] and officers had made a charcoal fire, because it was cold, and they were standing and warming themselves. Peter also was with them, standing and warming himself. (Mk 14,54; Joh 18,25)
The High Priest Questions Jesus
19The high priest then questioned Jesus about his disciples and his teaching. (Mt 26,59; Mk 14,55; Lk 22,63)20Jesus answered him, “I have spoken openly to the world. I have always taught in synagogues and in the temple, where all Jews come together. I have said nothing in secret. (Jes 45,19; Jes 48,16; Mt 26,55; Joh 7,4; Joh 7,26; Joh 8,26)21Why do you ask me? Ask those who have heard me what I said to them; they know what I said.”22When he had said these things, one of the officers standing by struck Jesus with his hand, saying, “Is that how you answer the high priest?” (Apg 23,4)23Jesus answered him, “If what I said is wrong, bear witness about the wrong; but if what I said is right, why do you strike me?”24Annas then sent him bound to Caiaphas the high priest. (Joh 18,13)
Peter Denies Jesus Again
25Now Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. So they said to him, “You also are not one of his disciples, are you?” He denied it and said, “I am not.” (Mt 26,71; Mk 14,69; Lk 22,58)26One of the servants of the high priest, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, asked, “Did I not see you in the garden with him?” (Joh 18,1; Joh 18,10)27Peter again denied it, and at once a rooster crowed. (Joh 13,38)
Jesus Before Pilate
28Then they led Jesus from the house of Caiaphas to the governor’s headquarters.[6] It was early morning. They themselves did not enter the governor’s headquarters, so that they would not be defiled, but could eat the Passover. (Mt 27,2; Mt 27,27; Mk 15,1; Lk 23,1; Joh 11,55; Joh 18,24; Joh 18,33; Joh 19,9; Joh 19,14; Apg 10,28; Apg 11,3)29So Pilate went outside to them and said, “What accusation do you bring against this man?” (Mt 27,11; Mk 15,2; Lk 23,2)30They answered him, “If this man were not doing evil, we would not have delivered him over to you.”31Pilate said to them, “Take him yourselves and judge him by your own law.” The Jews said to him, “It is not lawful for us to put anyone to death.” (Joh 19,6)32This was to fulfill the word that Jesus had spoken to show by what kind of death he was going to die. (Mt 20,19; Mt 26,2; Mk 10,33; Lk 18,32; Joh 12,32; Joh 13,18)
My Kingdom Is Not of This World
33So Pilate entered his headquarters again and called Jesus and said to him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” (Joh 19,9; Joh 19,12)34Jesus answered, “Do you say this of your own accord, or did others say it to you about me?”35Pilate answered, “Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered you over to me. What have you done?”36Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world.” (Dan 2,44; Dan 7,14; Dan 7,27; Mt 26,53; Lk 17,21; Joh 6,15; Joh 8,23; Joh 15,19; Joh 17,14; Joh 17,16; Joh 19,16; 1Joh 2,16; 1Joh 4,5)37Then Pilate said to him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world—to bear witness to the truth.
