1Euer Herz erschrecke nicht! Glaubt an Gott und glaubt an mich!2In meines Vaters Hause sind viele Wohnungen. Wenn’s nicht so wäre, hätte ich dann zu euch gesagt: Ich gehe hin, euch die Stätte zu bereiten?3Und wenn ich hingehe, euch die Stätte zu bereiten, will ich wiederkommen und euch zu mir nehmen, auf dass auch ihr seid, wo ich bin. (Joh 12,26; Joh 17,24)4Und wo ich hingehe – den Weg dahin wisst ihr.5Spricht zu ihm Thomas: Herr, wir wissen nicht, wo du hingehst; wie können wir den Weg wissen?6Jesus spricht zu ihm: Ich bin der Weg und die Wahrheit und das Leben; niemand kommt zum Vater denn durch mich. (Mt 11,27; Joh 10,9; Röm 5,1; Hebr 10,20)7Wenn ihr mich erkannt habt, so werdet ihr auch meinen Vater erkennen. Und von nun an kennt ihr ihn und habt ihn gesehen.8Spricht zu ihm Philippus: Herr, zeige uns den Vater, und es genügt uns.9Jesus spricht zu ihm: So lange bin ich bei euch, und du kennst mich nicht, Philippus? Wer mich sieht, der sieht den Vater. Wie sprichst du dann: Zeige uns den Vater? (Joh 12,45; Hebr 1,3)10Glaubst du nicht, dass ich im Vater bin und der Vater in mir? Die Worte, die ich zu euch rede, die rede ich nicht aus mir selbst. Der Vater aber, der in mir bleibt, der tut seine Werke. (Joh 12,49)11Glaubt mir, dass ich im Vater bin und der Vater in mir; wenn nicht, so glaubt doch um der Werke willen. (Joh 10,25; Joh 10,38)12Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Wer an mich glaubt, der wird die Werke auch tun, die ich tue, und wird größere als diese tun; denn ich gehe zum Vater. (Mt 28,19)13Und was ihr bitten werdet in meinem Namen, das will ich tun, auf dass der Vater verherrlicht werde im Sohn. (Mk 11,24; Joh 15,7; Joh 16,24; 1Joh 5,14)14Was ihr mich bitten werdet in meinem Namen, das will ich tun.
Die Verheißung des Heiligen Geistes
15Liebt ihr mich, so werdet ihr meine Gebote halten. (Joh 15,10; 1Joh 5,3)16Und ich will den Vater bitten und er wird euch einen andern Tröster[1] geben, dass er bei euch sei in Ewigkeit: (Joh 15,26; Joh 16,7)17den Geist der Wahrheit, den die Welt nicht empfangen kann, denn sie sieht ihn nicht und kennt ihn nicht. Ihr kennt ihn, denn er bleibt bei euch und wird in euch sein. (Joh 16,13)18Ich will euch nicht als Waisen zurücklassen; ich komme zu euch.19Es ist noch eine kleine Zeit, dann sieht die Welt mich nicht mehr. Ihr aber seht mich, denn ich lebe, und ihr sollt auch leben. (Joh 20,20)20An jenem Tage werdet ihr erkennen, dass ich in meinem Vater bin und ihr in mir und ich in euch.21Wer meine Gebote hat und hält sie, der ist’s, der mich liebt. Wer mich aber liebt, der wird von meinem Vater geliebt werden, und ich werde ihn lieben und mich ihm offenbaren. (Joh 16,27; 1Joh 5,3)22Spricht zu ihm Judas, nicht der Iskariot: Herr, was bedeutet es, dass du dich uns offenbaren willst und nicht der Welt?23Jesus antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Wer mich liebt, der wird mein Wort halten; und mein Vater wird ihn lieben, und wir werden zu ihm kommen und Wohnung bei ihm nehmen. (Spr 8,17; Eph 3,17)24Wer aber mich nicht liebt, der hält meine Worte nicht. Und das Wort, das ihr hört, ist nicht mein Wort, sondern das des Vaters, der mich gesandt hat. (Joh 7,16)25Das habe ich zu euch geredet, solange ich bei euch gewesen bin.26Aber der Tröster, der Heilige Geist, den mein Vater senden wird in meinem Namen, der wird euch alles lehren und euch an alles erinnern, was ich euch gesagt habe.
Der Friede Christi
27Frieden lasse ich euch, meinen Frieden gebe ich euch. Nicht gebe ich euch, wie die Welt gibt. Euer Herz erschrecke nicht und fürchte sich nicht. (Joh 16,33; Phil 4,7)28Ihr habt gehört, dass ich euch gesagt habe: Ich gehe hin und komme wieder zu euch. Hättet ihr mich lieb, so würdet ihr euch freuen, dass ich zum Vater gehe; denn der Vater ist größer als ich.29Und jetzt habe ich’s euch gesagt, ehe es geschieht, damit ihr glaubt, wenn es nun geschehen wird.30Ich werde nicht mehr viel mit euch reden, denn es kommt der Fürst dieser Welt. Er hat keine Macht über mich. (Joh 12,31; Eph 2,2)31Aber die Welt soll erkennen, dass ich den Vater liebe und tue, wie mir der Vater geboten hat. – Steht auf und lasst uns von hier weggehen. (Joh 10,18)

Elmegyek, hogy helyet készítsek néktek.3És ha majd elmegyek, és helyet készítek néktek, ismét eljövök, és magamhoz veszlek titeket, hogy ahol én vagyok, ti is ott legyetek.4Tudjátok, hogy hová megyek, és az utat is tudjátok.“5Mondta neki Tamás: „Uram, nem tudjuk, hová mégy, mi módon tudhatjuk akkor az utat?“6Mondta neki Jézus: „Én vagyok az út, az igazság és az élet, senki sem mehet az Atyához, csakis énáltalam.7Ha megismertetek volna engem, megismertétek volna az én Atyámat is, és mostantól fogva ismeritek őt, és látjátok őt.“8Mondta neki Fülöp: „Uram, mutasd meg nékünk az Atyát, és az elég nékünk!“9Jézus erre azt mondta: „Annyi idő óta veletek vagyok, és mégsem ismertél meg engem, Fülöp? Aki engem látott, látta az Atyát, mi módon mondod azért te: Mutasd meg nekünk az Atyát?10Nem hiszed-e, hogy én az Atyában vagyok, és az Atya énbennem van? A beszédeket, amelyeket én mondok néktek, nem magamtól mondom, hanem az Atya, aki énbennem lakik, ő cselekszi ezeket a dolgokat.11Higgyetek nekem, hogy én az Atyában vagyok, és az Atya énbennem van, ha pedig másért nem, magukért a cselekedetekért higgyetek nekem.
A másik Vigasztaló ígérete
12„Bizony, bizony mondom néktek: Aki hisz énbennem, az cselekszi is majd azokat a cselekedeteket, amelyeket én cselekszem, és nagyobbakat is cselekszik azoknál, mert én az én Atyámhoz megyek.13Akármit kértek majd az én nevemben, megcselekszem azt, hogy dicsőíttessék az Atya a Fiúban.14Ha valamit kértek az én nevemben, én megcselekszem azt.15Ha szerettek engem, az én parancsolataimat tartsátok meg.16És én kérem az Atyát, és más Vigasztalót ad néktek, hogy veletek maradjon mindörökké.17Az igazságnak ama Lelkét: akit a világ be nem fogadhat, mert nem látja őt, és nem ismeri őt, de ti ismeritek őt, mert nálatok lakik, és bennetek marad.18Nem hagylak titeket árvákul, eljövök tihozzátok.19Még egy kevés idő, és a világ nem lát engem többé, de ti megláttok engem: mert én élek, és ti is élni fogtok.20Azon a napon megtudjátok majd ti, hogy én az én Atyámban vagyok, és ti énbennem, és én tibennetek.21Aki ismeri az én parancsolataimat, és megtartja azokat, az szeret engem, aki pedig engem szeret, azt szereti az én Atyám, én is szeretem azt, és kijelentem magamat annak.“22Mondta neki Júdás (nem az Iskáriótes): „Uram, miért van az, hogy nékünk jelented ki magadat, és nem a világnak?“23Jézus így felelt: „Ha valaki szeret engem, megtartja az én beszédemet: és az én Atyám szereti azt, és elmegyünk hozzá, és nála lakunk.24Aki nem szeret engem, nem tartja meg az én beszédeimet: és az a beszéd, amelyet hallotok, nem az enyém, hanem az Atyáé, aki küldött engem.25Ezeket beszéltem nektek, amíg veletek voltam.26A Vigasztaló pedig a Szentlélek, akit az én nevemben küld az Atya, mindenre megtanít majd titeket, és eszetekbe juttatja mindazokat, amiket mondtam nektek.27Békességet hagyok nektek, az én békességemet adom nektek: nem úgy adom nektek, amint a világ adja. Ne nyugtalankodjék a ti szívetek, se ne féljen!28Hallottátok, hogy én azt mondtam nektek: Elmegyek, és eljövök hozzátok. Ha szeretnétek engem, örvendeznétek, hogy azt mondtam: Elmegyek az Atyához, mert az én Atyám nagyobb nálam.29Most mondom ezt nektek, mielőtt megtörténik, hogy amikor majd megtörténik, higgyetek.30Nem sokat beszélek már veletek, mert jön a világ fejedelme, de énbennem nincsen semmije.31De hogy megtudja a világ, hogy szeretem az Atyát, és úgy cselekszem, amint az én Atyám parancsolta nekem: keljetek fel, menjünk el innen.“
1‘Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God[1]; believe also in me.2My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.4You know the way to the place where I am going.’
Jesus the way to the Father
5Thomas said to him, ‘Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?’6Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No-one comes to the Father except through me.7If you really know me, you will know[2] my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.’8Philip said, ‘Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.’9Jesus answered: ‘Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, “Show us the Father”?10Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work.11Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves.12Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.13And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.14You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.
Jesus promises the Holy Spirit
15‘If you love me, keep my commands.16And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you for ever –17the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be[3] in you.18I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.19Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live.20On that day you will realise that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.21Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.’22Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, ‘But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?’23Jesus replied, ‘Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.24Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.25‘All this I have spoken while still with you.26But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.27Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.28‘You heard me say, “I am going away and I am coming back to you.” If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.29I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe.30I will not say much more to you, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold over me,31but he comes so that the world may learn that I love the Father and do exactly what my Father has commanded me. ‘Come now; let us leave.
