1 At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? 2 And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, 3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. 4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5 And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me. 6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea. 7 Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh! 8 Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire. 9 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire. 10 Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven. 11 For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost. 12 How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray? 13 And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine which went not astray. 14 Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish. 15 Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. 16 But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. 17 And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican. 18 Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. 19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. 20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. 21 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? 22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven. 23 Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants. 24 And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents. 25 But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made. 26 The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. 27 Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt. 28 But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest. 29 And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. 30 And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt. 31 So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done. 32 Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me: 33 Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee? 34 And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him. 35 So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.

Cel mai mare în Împărăția Cerurilor

1 În ceasul acela, ucenicii s‑au apropiat de Isus, zicând: – Cine este, așadar, cel mai mare în Împărăția Cerurilor? (Mr 9:33; Lu 9:46) 2 Isus a chemat un copilaș, l‑a pus să stea în mijlocul lor 3 și le‑a zis: – Adevărat vă spun, dacă nu vă întoarceți și nu deveniți ca și copilașii, nicidecum nu veți intra în Împărăția Cerurilor! 4 Prin urmare, oricine se smerește ca acest copilaș, acela este cel mai mare în Împărăția Cerurilor. 5 Și oricine primește în Numele Meu pe un astfel de copilaș, pe Mine Mă primește. 6 Dar dacă cineva îl face să păcătuiască pe vreunul dintre acești micuți care cred în Mine, ar fi mai de folos pentru el să i se atârne de gât o piatră mare de moară și să fie înecat în adâncul mării.

Prilejuri de poticnire

7 Vai de lumea aceasta, din cauza prilejurilor de poticnire^[1]! Căci este nevoie să vină prilejurile de poticnire, dar vai de omul acela prin care vine prilejul de poticnire! (Mt 13:41; Mr 9:42; Lu 17:1) 8 Dacă mâna sau piciorul tău te fac să păcătuiești, taie‑le și aruncă‑le! Este mai bine pentru tine să intri în viață schilod sau olog, decât să ai două mâini sau două picioare și să fii aruncat în focul veșnic! 9 Și dacă ochiul tău te face să păcătuiești, scoate‑l și aruncă‑l! Este mai bine pentru tine să intri în viață numai cu un ochi, decât să ai doi ochi și să fii aruncat în focul Gheenei^[2]! (Mt 5:22)

Pilda despre oaia rătăcită

10 Vedeți să nu cumva să‑l disprețuiți pe vreunul dintre acești micuți, căci vă spun că îngerii lor din ceruri văd întotdeauna fața Tatălui Meu Care este în ceruri. (Lu 15:4) 11 Fiindcă Fiul Omului a venit să mântuiască ce era pierdut. 12 Ce credeți? Dacă unui om care are o sută de oi i se rătăcește una dintre ele, nu le lasă el oare pe celelalte nouăzeci și nouă pe munți și se duce s‑o caute pe cea rătăcită? 13 Și dacă i se întâmplă să o găsească, adevărat vă spun că se bucură de ea mai mult decât de celelalte nouăzeci și nouă, care nu s‑au rătăcit! 14 Tot astfel, nu este voia Tatălui vostru din ceruri să piară vreunul dintre acești micuți.

Când semenul tău păcătuiește împotriva ta

15 Dacă fratele tău păcătuiește împotriva ta, du‑te și mustră‑l^[3] doar între tine și el. Dacă te ascultă, l‑ai câștigat pe fratele tău. (Lu 17:3) 16 Dar dacă nu te ascultă, mai ia cu tine una sau două persoane, pentru ca „orice vorbă să fie întemeiată pe cuvântul a doi sau trei martori“^[4]. (De 19:15) 17 Dacă nici de ei nu va ține seamă, spune acest lucru bisericii^[5]. Dar dacă nici de biserică nu va ține seamă, atunci să fie pentru tine ca un păgân^[6] și ca un vameș. (Mt 16:18) 18 Adevărat vă spun că orice veți lega pe pământ va fi legat în cer și orice veți dezlega pe pământ va fi dezlegat în cer.^[7] (Mt 16:19) 19 Din nou, adevărat vă spun că, dacă doi dintre voi se înțeleg pe pământ în privința oricărui lucru pe care doresc să‑l ceară, le va fi dat de Tatăl Meu Care este în ceruri. 20 Căci unde sunt adunați doi sau trei în Numele Meu, acolo, în mijlocul lor, sunt și Eu!

21 Atunci Petru s‑a apropiat și L‑a întrebat: – Doamne, de câte ori să‑l iert pe fratele meu când va păcătui față de mine? Până la șapte ori? (Lu 17:4) 22 Isus i‑a zis: – Eu nu‑ți zic să‑l ierți până la șapte ori, ci până la șaptezeci de ori câte șapte^[8]. 23 De aceea, Împărăția Cerurilor se aseamănă cu un împărat care a vrut să‑și încheie socotelile cu sclavii săi. 24 Când a început să facă socotelile, a fost adus la el unul care‑i datora zece mii de talanți^[9]. (Mt 20:2) 25 Dar fiindcă nu avea cu ce să plătească, stăpânul a poruncit să fie vândut el, soția lui, copiii lui și tot ce avea, pentru a fi plătită datoria. 26 Atunci sclavul, aruncându‑se la pământ, i s‑a închinat și a zis: „Mai ai răbdare cu mine și‑ți voi plăti tot!“ 27 Stăpânului acelui sclav i s‑a făcut milă de el, așa că l‑a lăsat și i‑a iertat datoria. 28 După ce a ieșit, sclavul acela l‑a găsit pe unul dintre confrații lui care‑i datora o sută de denari^[10]. El l‑a înșfăcat și, în timp ce‑l strângea de gât, i‑a zis: „Plătește ce‑mi datorezi!“ (Mt 20:2) 29 Atunci confratele său, aruncându‑se la pământ, l‑a rugat și a zis: „Mai ai răbdare cu mine și‑ți voi plăti.“ 30 Dar el n‑a vrut, ci s‑a dus și l‑a aruncat în închisoare până când avea să plătească datoria. 31 Când confrații lui au văzut cele întâmplate, s‑au întristat foarte tare. Ei s‑au dus și i‑au povestit stăpânului lor tot ce se întâmplase. 32 Atunci stăpânul lui l‑a chemat la el și i‑a zis: „Sclav rău, eu ți‑am iertat ție toată datoria aceea, pentru că m‑ai rugat! 33 Nu trebuia oare să ai milă și tu de confratele tău, așa cum am avut eu milă de tine?“ 34 Stăpânul s‑a mâniat și l‑a dat pe mâna călăilor, până când avea să plătească toată datoria. 35 Tot așa vă va face și Tatăl Meu ceresc, dacă fiecare dintre voi nu‑l iartă din inimă pe fratele său.
