1 And it came to pass in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, that this word came unto Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, 2 Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day. 3 It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin. 4 Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah: and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the LORD, which he had spoken unto him, upon a roll of a book. 5 And Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am shut up; I cannot go into the house of the LORD: 6 Therefore go thou, and read in the roll, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of the LORD in the ears of the people in the LORD' house upon the fasting day: and also thou shalt read them in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities. 7 It may be they will present their supplication before the LORD, and will return every one from his evil way: for great is the anger and the fury that the LORD hath pronounced against this people. 8 And Baruch the son of Neriah did according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, reading in the book the words of the LORD in the LORD' house. 9 And it came to pass in the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, in the ninth month, that they proclaimed a fast before the LORD to all the people in Jerusalem, and to all the people that came from the cities of Judah unto Jerusalem. 10 Then read Baruch in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of the LORD, in the chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan the scribe, in the higher court, at the entry of the new gate of the LORD' house, in the ears of all the people. 11 When Michaiah the son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, had heard out of the book all the words of the LORD, 12 Then he went down into the king' house, into the scribe' chamber: and, lo, all the princes sat there, even Elishama the scribe, and Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan the son of Achbor, and Gemariah the son of Shaphan, and Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the princes. 13 Then Michaiah declared unto them all the words that he had heard, when Baruch read the book in the ears of the people. 14 Therefore all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, unto Baruch, saying, Take in thine hand the roll wherein thou hast read in the ears of the people, and come. So Baruch the son of Neriah took the roll in his hand, and came unto them. 15 And they said unto him, Sit down now, and read it in our ears. So Baruch read it in their ears. 16 Now it came to pass, when they had heard all the words, they were afraid both one and other, and said unto Baruch, We will surely tell the king of all these words. 17 And they asked Baruch, saying, Tell us now, How didst thou write all these words at his mouth? 18 Then Baruch answered them, He pronounced all these words unto me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book. 19 Then said the princes unto Baruch, Go, hide thee, thou and Jeremiah; and let no man know where ye be. 20 And they went in to the king into the court, but they laid up the roll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe, and told all the words in the ears of the king. 21 So the king sent Jehudi to fetch the roll: and he took it out of Elishama the scribe' chamber. And Jehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes which stood beside the king. 22 Now the king sat in the winterhouse in the ninth month: and there was a fire on the hearth burning before him. 23 And it came to pass, that when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, he cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was on the hearth, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was on the hearth. 24 Yet they were not afraid, nor rent their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants that heard all these words. 25 Nevertheless Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah had made intercession to the king that he would not burn the roll: but he would not hear them. 26 But the king commanded Jerahmeel the son of Hammelech, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet: but the LORD hid them. 27 Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, after that the king had burned the roll, and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying, 28 Take thee again another roll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first roll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah hath burned. 29 And thou shalt say to Jehoiakim king of Judah, Thus saith the LORD; Thou hast burned this roll, saying, Why hast thou written therein, saying, The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land, and shall cause to cease from thence man and beast? 30 Therefore thus saith the LORD of Jehoiakim king of Judah; He shall have none to sit upon the throne of David: and his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the frost. 31 And I will punish him and his seed and his servants for their iniquity; and I will bring upon them, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and upon the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them; but they hearkened not. 32 Then took Jeremiah another roll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah; who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire: and there were added besides unto them many like words.

Die Verbrennung der Schriftrolle

1 Im vierten Jahr Jojakims, des Sohnes Josias, des Königs von Juda, geschah dies Wort zu Jeremia vom HERRN: (Jer 25:1) 2 Nimm eine Schriftrolle und schreibe darauf alle Worte, die ich zu dir geredet habe über Israel, über Juda und über alle Völker von der Zeit an, da ich zu dir geredet habe, nämlich von der Zeit Josias an bis auf diesen Tag. (Jer 25:3) 3 Vielleicht wird das Haus Juda, wenn sie hören von all dem Unheil, das ich ihnen zu tun gedenke, sich bekehren, ein jeder von seinem bösen Wege, damit ich ihnen ihre Schuld und Sünde vergeben kann. (Jer 26:3) 4 Da rief Jeremia Baruch, den Sohn Nerijas. Und Baruch schrieb auf eine Schriftrolle alle Worte des HERRN, die er zu Jeremia geredet hatte, wie Jeremia sie ihm sagte. (Jer 32:12; Jer 45:1) 5 Und Jeremia gebot Baruch und sprach: Mir ist’s verwehrt, ich kann nicht in des HERRN Haus gehen. 6 Du aber geh hin und lies die Schriftrolle, auf die du des HERRN Worte, wie ich sie dir gesagt habe, geschrieben hast, dem Volk vor im Hause des HERRN am Fasttage, und du sollst sie auch lesen vor den Ohren aller Judäer, die aus ihren Städten hereinkommen. 7 Vielleicht werden sie sich mit Beten vor dem HERRN demütigen und sich bekehren, ein jeder von seinem bösen Wege; denn der Zorn und Grimm ist groß, den der HERR diesem Volk angedroht hat. 8 Und Baruch, der Sohn Nerijas, tat alles, wie ihm der Prophet Jeremia befohlen hatte, dass er die Worte des HERRN aus der Schriftrolle vorläse im Hause des HERRN. 9 Es begab sich aber im fünften Jahr Jojakims, des Sohnes Josias, des Königs von Juda, im neunten Monat, dass man ein Fasten ausrief vor dem HERRN für alles Volk zu Jerusalem und für alles Volk, das aus den Städten Judas nach Jerusalem kam. 10 Und Baruch las aus der Schriftrolle die Worte Jeremias vor im Hause des HERRN, in der Kammer Gemarjas, des Sohnes Schafans, des Schreibers, im oberen Vorhof bei dem neuen Tor am Hause des HERRN, vor dem ganzen Volk. (2Ki 22:3) 11 Als nun Michaja, der Sohn Gemarjas, des Sohnes Schafans, alle Worte des HERRN gehört hatte aus der Schriftrolle, 12 ging er hinab in des Königs Haus in die Kanzlei. Und siehe, dort saßen alle Oberen: Elischama, der Schreiber, Delaja, der Sohn Schemajas, Elnatan, der Sohn Achbors, Gemarja, der Sohn Schafans, und Zidkija, der Sohn Hananjas, samt allen andern Oberen. (Jer 26:22) 13 Und Michaja berichtete ihnen alle Worte, die er gehört hatte, als Baruch dem Volk aus der Schriftrolle vorlas. 14 Da sandten alle Oberen Jehudi, den Sohn Netanjas, des Sohnes Schelemjas, des Sohnes Kuschis, zu Baruch und ließen ihm sagen: Nimm die Schriftrolle, aus der du dem Volk vorgelesen hast, mit dir und komm! Und Baruch, der Sohn Nerijas, nahm die Schriftrolle mit sich und kam zu ihnen. 15 Und sie sprachen zu ihm: Setze dich und lies vor, dass wir’s hören! Und Baruch las ihnen vor. 16 Und als sie alle die Worte hörten, entsetzten sie sich untereinander und sprachen zu Baruch: Wir müssen alle diese Worte dem König anzeigen. 17 Und sie fragten Baruch: Sage uns, wie hast du alle seine Worte niedergeschrieben? 18 Baruch sprach zu ihnen: Jeremia hat mir alle diese Worte vorgesagt, und ich schrieb sie mit Tinte auf die Schriftrolle. 19 Da sprachen die Oberen zu Baruch: Geh hin und verbirg dich mit Jeremia, dass niemand wisse, wo ihr seid! 20 Sie aber gingen hinein zum König in den Vorhof und ließen die Schriftrolle verwahren in der Kammer Elischamas, des Schreibers, und teilten dem König alle diese Worte mit. 21 Da sandte der König den Jehudi, die Schriftrolle zu holen. Der nahm sie aus der Kammer Elischamas, des Schreibers. Und Jehudi las dem König vor und allen Oberen, die bei dem König standen. 22 Der König aber saß im Winterhause vor dem Kohlenbecken; denn es war im neunten Monat. 23 Sooft nun Jehudi drei oder vier Spalten gelesen hatte, schnitt er sie ab mit einem Schreibmesser und warf sie ins Feuer, das im Kohlenbecken war, bis die ganze Schriftrolle im Feuer verbrannt war. 24 Und niemand entsetzte sich und zerriss seine Kleider, weder der König noch seine Großen, die doch alle diese Worte gehört hatten. (2Ki 22:11) 25 Und obwohl Elnatan, Delaja und Gemarja den König baten, er möge die Schriftrolle nicht verbrennen, hörte er nicht auf sie. 26 Dazu gebot der König Jerachmeel, dem Königssohn, und Seraja, dem Sohn Asriëls, und Schelemja, dem Sohn Abdeels, sie sollten Baruch, den Schreiber, und Jeremia, den Propheten, ergreifen. Aber der HERR hatte sie verborgen. 27 Nachdem der König die Schriftrolle verbrannt hatte, auf die Baruch die Worte geschrieben hatte, wie Jeremia sie ihm sagte, geschah des HERRN Wort zu Jeremia: 28 Nimm dir eine neue Schriftrolle und schreibe darauf alle vorigen Worte, die auf der ersten Schriftrolle standen, die Jojakim, der König von Juda, verbrannt hat. 29 Über Jojakim aber, den König von Juda, sollst du sagen: So spricht der HERR: Du hast diese Schriftrolle verbrannt und gesagt: Warum hast du darauf geschrieben, dass der König von Babel kommen und dies Land verderben werde, sodass weder Menschen noch Vieh mehr darin sein werden? (Jer 7:20; Jer 9:9; Jer 25:8) 30 Darum, so spricht der HERR über Jojakim, den König von Juda: Es soll keiner von den Seinen auf dem Thron Davids sitzen, und sein Leichnam soll hingeworfen liegen, am Tag in der Hitze und nachts im Frost. (Jer 22:19; Jer 22:30) 31 Und ich will ihn und seine Nachkommen und seine Großen heimsuchen um ihrer Schuld willen, und ich will über sie und über die Bürger Jerusalems und über die in Juda kommen lassen all das Unheil, von dem ich zu ihnen geredet habe, und sie gehorchten doch nicht. 32 Da nahm Jeremia eine andere Schriftrolle und gab sie Baruch, dem Sohn Nerijas, dem Schreiber. Der schrieb darauf, so wie ihm Jeremia vorsagte, alle Worte, die auf der Schriftrolle standen, die Jojakim, der König von Juda, im Feuer verbrannt hatte; und es wurden zu ihnen noch viele ähnliche Worte hinzugetan.
