1 And king Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah. 2 But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, did hearken unto the words of the LORD, which he spake by the prophet Jeremiah. 3 And Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, Pray now unto the LORD our God for us. 4 Now Jeremiah came in and went out among the people: for they had not put him into prison. 5 Then Pharaoh' army was come forth out of Egypt: and when the Chaldeans that besieged Jerusalem heard tidings of them, they departed from Jerusalem. 6 Then came the word of the LORD unto the prophet Jeremiah, saying, 7 Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel; Thus shall ye say to the king of Judah, that sent you unto me to enquire of me; Behold, Pharaoh' army, which is come forth to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own land. 8 And the Chaldeans shall come again, and fight against this city, and take it, and burn it with fire. 9 Thus saith the LORD; Deceive not yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us: for they shall not depart. 10 For though ye had smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yet should they rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire. 11 And it came to pass, that when the army of the Chaldeans was broken up from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh' army, 12 Then Jeremiah went forth out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin, to separate himself thence in the midst of the people. 13 And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the ward was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he took Jeremiah the prophet, saying, Thou fallest away to the Chaldeans. 14 Then said Jeremiah, It is false; I fall not away to the Chaldeans. But he hearkened not to him: so Irijah took Jeremiah, and brought him to the princes. 15 Wherefore the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, and smote him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe: for they had made that the prison. 16 When Jeremiah was entered into the dungeon, and into the cabins, and Jeremiah had remained there many days; 17 Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took him out: and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there any word from the LORD? And Jeremiah said, There is: for, said he, thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon. 18 Moreover Jeremiah said unto king Zedekiah, What have I offended against thee, or against thy servants, or against this people, that ye have put me in prison? 19 Where are now your prophets which prophesied unto you, saying, The king of Babylon shall not come against you, nor against this land? 20 Therefore hear now, I pray thee, O my lord the king: let my supplication, I pray thee, be accepted before thee; that thou cause me not to return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there. 21 Then Zedekiah the king commanded that they should commit Jeremiah into the court of the prison, and that they should give him daily a piece of bread out of the bakers'street, until all the bread in the city were spent. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.

Jeremia warnt den König

1 Und Zedekia, der Sohn Josias, wurde König anstatt Konjas^[1], des Sohnes Jojakims; denn Nebukadnezar, der König von Babel, machte ihn zum König im Lande Juda. (2Ki 24:17; Jer 24:1) 2 Aber er und seine Großen und das Volk des Landes gehorchten nicht den Worten des HERRN, die er durch den Propheten Jeremia redete. 3 Gleichwohl sandte der König Zedekia Juchal, den Sohn Schelemjas, und den Priester Zefanja, den Sohn Maasejas, zum Propheten Jeremia und ließ ihm sagen: Bitte den HERRN, unsern Gott, für uns! (Jer 7:16; Jer 42:2) 4 Denn Jeremia ging noch unter dem Volk aus und ein, und man hatte ihn noch nicht ins Gefängnis geworfen. 5 Es war aber das Heer des Pharao aus Ägypten aufgebrochen, und als die Chaldäer, die Jerusalem belagerten, davon hörten, zogen sie von Jerusalem ab. 6 Und des HERRN Wort geschah zum Propheten Jeremia: 7 So spricht der HERR, der Gott Israels: Sagt dem König von Juda, der euch zu mir gesandt hat, mich zu befragen: Siehe, das Heer des Pharao, das euch zu Hilfe ausgezogen ist, wird wieder heim nach Ägypten ziehen, 8 und die Chaldäer werden wiederkommen und gegen diese Stadt kämpfen und sie erobern und mit Feuer verbrennen. (Jer 34:22) 9 So spricht der HERR: Betrügt euch nicht damit, dass ihr denkt: »Die Chaldäer werden von uns abziehen.« Sie werden nicht abziehen. 10 Selbst wenn ihr das ganze Heer der Chaldäer schlüget, die gegen euch kämpfen, und es blieben von ihnen nur etliche Verwundete übrig, so würden sie, ein jeder in seinem Zelt, aufstehen und diese Stadt mit Feuer verbrennen.

Jeremia wird gefangen gesetzt

11 Als nun der Chaldäer Heer von Jerusalem abgezogen war vor dem Heer des Pharao, 12 wollte Jeremia aus Jerusalem heraus ins Land Benjamin gehen, um mit seinen Verwandten ein Erbe zu teilen. (Jer 32:8) 13 Und als er zum Benjamintor kam, war dort ein Wachhabender mit Namen Jirija, der Sohn Schelemjas, des Sohnes Hananjas; der griff den Propheten Jeremia und sprach: Du willst zu den Chaldäern überlaufen. 14 Jeremia sprach: Das ist nicht wahr, ich will nicht zu den Chaldäern überlaufen. Aber Jirija wollte ihn nicht hören, sondern griff Jeremia und brachte ihn zu den Oberen. 15 Und die Oberen wurden zornig über Jeremia und schlugen ihn und warfen ihn ins Gefängnis im Hause Jonatans, des Schreibers; denn das hatten sie zum Kerker gemacht. (Jer 20:2) 16 So kam Jeremia in das Gewölbe der Zisterne. Dort blieb Jeremia lange Zeit.

Zedekia befragt heimlich den Propheten

17 Aber der König Zedekia sandte hin und ließ ihn holen. Und der König fragte ihn heimlich in seinem Haus und sprach: Ist wohl ein Wort vom HERRN vorhanden? Jeremia sprach: Ja! Du wirst dem König von Babel in die Hände gegeben werden. (Jer 34:21) 18 Und Jeremia sprach zum König Zedekia: Was hab ich gegen dich, gegen deine Großen und gegen dies Volk gesündigt, dass sie mich in den Kerker geworfen haben? 19 Wo sind nun eure Propheten, die euch weissagten und sprachen: Der König von Babel wird nicht über euch noch über dies Land kommen? 20 Und nun, mein Herr und König, höre mich und lass meine Bitte vor dir gelten! Lass mich nicht wieder in Jonatans, des Schreibers, Haus bringen, dass ich dort nicht sterbe. 21 Da befahl der König Zedekia, dass man Jeremia im Wachthof behalten sollte, und ließ ihm täglich aus der Bäckergasse einen Laib Brot geben, bis alles Brot in der Stadt aufgezehrt war. So blieb Jeremia im Wachthof. (Jer 32:2)
