Deuteronomy 2

1 Then we turned, and took our journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea, as the LORD spake unto me: and we compassed mount Seir many days. 

2 And the LORD spake unto me, saying, 

3 Ye have compassed this mountain long enough: turn you northward. 

4 And command thou the people, saying, Ye are to pass through the coast of your brethren the children of Esau, which dwell in Seir; and they shall be afraid of you: take ye good heed unto yourselves therefore: 

5 Meddle not with them; for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as a foot breadth; because I have given mount Seir unto Esau for a possession. 

6 Ye shall buy meat of them for money, that ye may eat; and ye shall also buy water of them for money, that ye may drink. 

7 For the LORD thy God hath blessed thee in all the works of thy hand: he knoweth thy walking through this great wilderness: these forty years the LORD thy God hath been with thee; thou hast lacked nothing. 

8 And when we passed by from our brethren the children of Esau, which dwelt in Seir, through the way of the plain from Elath, and from Eziongaber, we turned and passed by the way of the wilderness of Moab. 

9 And the LORD said unto me, Distress not the Moabites, neither contend with them in battle: for I will not give thee of their land for a possession; because I have given Ar unto the children of Lot for a possession. 

10 The Emims dwelt therein in times past, a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims; 

11 Which also were accounted giants, as the Anakims; but the Moabites call them Emims. 

12 The Horims also dwelt in Seir beforetime; but the children of Esau succeeded them, when they had destroyed them from before them, and dwelt in their stead; as Israel did unto the land of his possession, which the LORD gave unto them. 

13 Now rise up, said I , and get you over the brook Zered. And we went over the brook Zered. 

14 And the space in which we came from Kadeshbarnea, until we were come over the brook Zered, was thirty and eight years; until all the generation of the men of war were wasted out from among the host, as the LORD sware unto them. 

15 For indeed the hand of the LORD was against them, to destroy them from among the host, until they were consumed. 

16 So it came to pass, when all the men of war were consumed and dead from among the people, 

17 That the LORD spake unto me, saying, 

18 Thou art to pass over through Ar, the coast of Moab, this day: 

19 And when thou comest nigh over against the children of Ammon, distress them not, nor meddle with them: for I will not give thee of the land of the children of Ammon any possession; because I have given it unto the children of Lot for a possession. 

20 (That also was accounted a land of giants: giants dwelt therein in old time; and the Ammonites call them Zamzummims; 

21 A people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims; but the LORD destroyed them before them; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their stead: 

22 As he did to the children of Esau, which dwelt in Seir, when he destroyed the Horims from before them; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their stead even unto this day: 

23 And the Avims which dwelt in Hazerim, even unto Azzah, the Caphtorims, which came forth out of Caphtor, destroyed them, and dwelt in their stead.) 

24 Rise ye up, take your journey, and pass over the river Arnon: behold, I have given into thine hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land: begin to possess it , and contend with him in battle. 

25 This day will I begin to put the dread of thee and the fear of thee upon the nations that are under the whole heaven, who shall hear report of thee, and shall tremble, and be in anguish because of thee. 

26 And I sent messengers out of the wilderness of Kedemoth unto Sihon king of Heshbon with words of peace, saying, 

27 Let me pass through thy land: I will go along by the high way, I will neither turn unto the right hand nor to the left. 

28 Thou shalt sell me meat for money, that I may eat; and give me water for money, that I may drink: only I will pass through on my feet; 

29 (As the children of Esau which dwell in Seir, and the Moabites which dwell in Ar, did unto me;) until I shall pass over Jordan into the land which the LORD our God giveth us. 

30 But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him: for the LORD thy God hardened his spirit, and made his heart obstinate, that he might deliver him into thy hand, as appeareth this day. 

31 And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have begun to give Sihon and his land before thee: begin to possess, that thou mayest inherit his land. 

32 Then Sihon came out against us, he and all his people, to fight at Jahaz. 

33 And the LORD our God delivered him before us; and we smote him, and his sons, and all his people. 

34 And we took all his cities at that time, and utterly destroyed the men, and the women, and the little ones, of every city, we left none to remain: 

35 Only the cattle we took for a prey unto ourselves, and the spoil of the cities which we took. 

36 From Aroer, which is by the brink of the river of Arnon, and from the city that is by the river, even unto Gilead, there was not one city too strong for us: the LORD our God delivered all unto us: 

37 Only unto the land of the children of Ammon thou camest not, nor unto any place of the river Jabbok, nor unto the cities in the mountains, nor unto whatsoever the LORD our God forbad us.

Weg Israels durch die Wüste – Sieg über Sihon

1 Und wir wandten uns und brachen auf zur Wüste, auf dem Weg zum Schilfmeer, wie der HERR zu mir geredet hatte. Und wir umzogen das Gebirge Seïr viele Tage ⟨lang⟩. (De 1:40) 

2 Und der HERR redete zu mir und sprach: 

3 Lange genug habt ihr dieses Gebirge umzogen. Wendet euch nach Norden! 

4 Und gebiete dem Volk und sage: Ihr werdet nun das Gebiet eurer Brüder, der Söhne Esau, durchziehen, die in Seïr wohnen, und sie werden sich vor euch fürchten. Aber hütet euch wohl! (Ex 15:15) 

5 Lasst euch nicht in Streit mit ihnen ein, denn ich werde euch von ihrem Land auch nicht die Breite einer Fußsohle geben! Denn das Gebirge Seïr habe ich dem Esau zum Besitz gegeben. (Ge 36:8; Eze 35:2; Ac 7:5) 

6 Nahrung sollt ihr für Geld von ihnen kaufen, damit ihr zu essen habt, und auch Wasser sollt ihr für Geld von ihnen kaufen, damit ihr zu trinken habt. (Nu 20:19) 

7 Denn der HERR, dein Gott, hat dich in allem Tun deiner Hand gesegnet. Er gab acht auf deine Wanderung durch diese große Wüste: Diese vierzig Jahre ist der HERR, dein Gott, mit dir gewesen; es hat dir an nichts gemangelt. (Ge 39:3; Ex 16:35; Nu 22:12; De 8:2; De 29:4; Ne 9:21; Jer 2:2; Ho 13:5; Am 2:10) 

8 Und wir zogen von unseren Brüdern, den Söhnen Esau, die in Seïr wohnen, weiter ⟨weg⟩ von der Arabastraße, von Elat und von Ezjon-Geber und wandten uns und zogen auf dem Weg zur Wüste Moabs. (Nu 20:21; Nu 33:35; Jud 11:18; 2Ki 14:22) 

9 Da sprach der HERR zu mir: Befehde Moab nicht und lass dich nicht in einen Krieg mit ihnen ein, denn ich werde dir von seinem Land keinen Besitz geben! Denn Ar habe ich den Söhnen Lot zum Besitz gegeben. – (Ge 19:37; Nu 21:15; Jud 11:15; Isa 15:1) 

10 Früher wohnten die Emiter darin, ein großes und zahlreiches und hochgewachsenes Volk wie die Enakiter. (Ge 14:5; De 1:28) 

11 Auch sie werden für Riesen gehalten wie die Enakiter; die Moabiter aber nennen sie Emiter. (Ge 6:4; 2Sa 21:16) 

12 Und in Seïr wohnten früher die Horiter. Aber die Söhne Esau verdrängten sie und vernichteten sie vor sich her und wohnten an ihrer Stelle, so wie Israel es mit dem Land seines Besitzes getan hat, das der HERR ihnen gegeben hat. – (Ge 36:20) 

13 Nun macht euch auf und zieht über den Bach Sered! Und wir zogen über den Bach Sered. (Nu 21:12) 

14 Die Tage aber, die wir von Kadesch-Barnea wanderten, bis wir über den Bach Sered zogen, ⟨betrugen⟩ 38 Jahre, bis die Generation der kriegstüchtigen Männer aus dem Lager vollständig aufgerieben war, so wie der HERR ihnen geschworen hatte. (Nu 1:1; Nu 26:64; De 1:35) 

15 Und zwar war die Hand des HERRN gegen sie, um sie aus dem Lager vollständig auszutilgen. (Ps 78:33; 1Co 10:5) 

16 Und es geschah, als die kriegstüchtigen Männer aus der Mitte des Volkes vollständig weggestorben waren, 

17 da redete der HERR zu mir und sprach: 

18 Du wirst heute das Gebiet von Moab, von Ar, durchziehen (Nu 21:13) 

19 und dich den Söhnen Ammon nähern, ⟨bis du ihrer Grenze⟩ gegenüber⟨stehst⟩. Du sollst sie nicht befehden und dich nicht in Streit mit ihnen einlassen, denn ich werde dir von dem Land der Söhne Ammon keinen Besitz geben! Denn ich habe es den Söhnen Lot zum Besitz gegeben. – (Ge 19:38; De 2:37; Jos 13:10; Jud 11:15; 2Ch 20:10; Isa 15:1) 

20 Auch dieses wird für ein Land der Riesen gehalten. Riesen wohnten früher darin, und die Ammoniter nennen sie Samsummiter: (Ge 14:5) 

21 ein großes und zahlreiches und hochgewachsenes Volk, wie die Enakiter. Und der HERR vernichtete sie vor ihnen, und sie verdrängten sie und wohnten an ihrer Stelle, 

22 so wie er ⟨es⟩ für die Söhne Esau getan hat, die in Seïr wohnen, vor denen er die Horiter vernichtete, sodass sie sie verdrängten und an ihrer Stelle wohnten bis auf diesen Tag. (Ge 36:20) 

23 Und ⟨was⟩ die Awiter ⟨betrifft⟩, die in Dörfern bis Gaza hin wohnten; die Kaftoriter, die aus Kaftor ausgezogen waren, haben sie vernichtet und wohnten an ihrer Stelle. – (Ge 10:14; Ge 10:19; Jos 10:41; Jos 11:22; Jos 13:3; Jos 15:47; Jud 1:18; Am 9:7) 

24 Macht euch auf, brecht auf und zieht über den Fluss Arnon! Siehe, ich habe den Amoriter Sihon, den König von Heschbon, und sein Land in deine Hand gegeben. Fang an, nimm ⟨es⟩ in Besitz und lass dich in einen Krieg mit ihm ein! (Nu 21:12) 

25 An diesem Tag will ich anfangen, Schrecken und Furcht vor dir auf die Völker unter dem ganzen Himmel zu legen: Wenn sie die Nachricht von dir hören, werden sie vor dir zittern und beben. (Nu 22:3; De 11:25; De 28:10; Jos 10:2) 

26 Da sandte ich Boten aus der Wüste Kedemot an Sihon, den König von Heschbon, mit Worten des Friedens und ließ ⟨ihm⟩ sagen: (De 20:10; Jos 13:18) 

27 Ich möchte durch dein Land ziehen auf der Straße! ⟨Nur⟩ auf der Straße will ich gehen, ich will weder zur Rechten noch zur Linken abweichen. (Nu 21:21) 

28 Nahrung sollst du mir für Geld verkaufen, dass ich esse, und Wasser sollst du mir für Geld geben, dass ich trinke. Ich will nur hindurchziehen mit meinen Füßen – (Nu 20:17) 

29 wie mir die Söhne Esau getan haben, die in Seïr wohnen, und die Moabiter, die in Ar wohnen –, bis ich über den Jordan hinüberziehe in das Land, das der HERR, unser Gott, uns gibt. (De 1:8; De 23:4) 

30 Aber Sihon, der König von Heschbon, wollte uns nicht bei sich durchziehen lassen. Denn der HERR, dein Gott, hatte seinen Geist verhärtet und sein Herz verstockt, um ihn in deine Hand zu geben, so wie es heute ist. (Ex 4:21; Ex 7:14; Nu 21:23; Jos 11:20; 2Ch 10:15) 

31 Und der HERR sprach zu mir: Siehe, ich habe begonnen, Sihon und sein Land vor dir dahinzugeben. Fang an, nimm es in Besitz, damit dir sein Land gehört! (De 3:1; Jos 12:1) 

32 Und Sihon zog zum Kampf aus, uns entgegen nach Jahaz, er und all sein Volk. (Nu 21:23) 

33 Aber der HERR, unser Gott, gab ihn vor uns dahin; und wir schlugen ihn und seine Söhne und all sein Volk. (Nu 21:24; De 29:6) 

34 In jener Zeit nahmen wir alle seine Städte ein, und wir vollstreckten den Bann an jeder Stadt, an Männern, Frauen und Kindern; wir ließen keinen übrig, der entkam. (Jos 6:21; Jos 8:26; Jos 10:28) 

35 Nur das Vieh erbeuteten wir für uns und die Beute der Städte, die wir einnahmen. (De 20:14; Jos 8:2) 

36 Von Aroër, das am Ufer des Flusses Arnon ⟨liegt⟩, und von der Stadt, die im Flusstal ⟨liegt⟩, bis Gilead gab es keine Stadt, die uns zu stark gewesen wäre; alles gab der HERR, unser Gott, vor uns dahin. (Jos 21:44; Jud 11:26) 

37 Nur dem Land der Söhne Ammon, dem ganzen Gebiet am Fluss Jabbok, hast du dich nicht genähert noch den Städten des Gebirges, nach allem, was der HERR, unser Gott, geboten hatte. (De 2:19)
