1These be the words which Moses spake unto all Israel on this side Jordan in the wilderness, in the plain over against the Red sea , between Paran, and Tophel, and Laban, and Hazeroth, and Dizahab.2( There are eleven days'journey from Horeb by the way of mount Seir unto Kadeshbarnea.)3And it came to pass in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first day of the month, that Moses spake unto the children of Israel, according unto all that the LORD had given him in commandment unto them;4After he had slain Sihon the king of the Amorites, which dwelt in Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, which dwelt at Astaroth in Edrei:5On this side Jordan, in the land of Moab, began Moses to declare this law, saying,6The LORD our God spake unto us in Horeb, saying, Ye have dwelt long enough in this mount:7Turn you, and take your journey, and go to the mount of the Amorites, and unto all the places nigh thereunto, in the plain, in the hills, and in the vale, and in the south, and by the sea side, to the land of the Canaanites, and unto Lebanon, unto the great river, the river Euphrates.8Behold, I have set the land before you: go in and possess the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give unto them and to their seed after them.9And I spake unto you at that time, saying, I am not able to bear you myself alone:10The LORD your God hath multiplied you, and, behold, ye are this day as the stars of heaven for multitude.11(The LORD God of your fathers make you a thousand times so many more as ye are , and bless you, as he hath promised you!)12How can I myself alone bear your cumbrance, and your burden, and your strife?13Take you wise men, and understanding, and known among your tribes, and I will make them rulers over you.14And ye answered me, and said, The thing which thou hast spoken is good for us to do.15So I took the chief of your tribes, wise men, and known, and made them heads over you, captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, and captains over fifties, and captains over tens, and officers among your tribes.16And I charged your judges at that time, saying, Hear the causes between your brethren, and judge righteously between every man and his brother, and the stranger that is with him.17Ye shall not respect persons in judgment; but ye shall hear the small as well as the great; ye shall not be afraid of the face of man; for the judgment is God': and the cause that is too hard for you, bring it unto me, and I will hear it.18And I commanded you at that time all the things which ye should do.19And when we departed from Horeb, we went through all that great and terrible wilderness, which ye saw by the way of the mountain of the Amorites, as the LORD our God commanded us; and we came to Kadeshbarnea.20And I said unto you, Ye are come unto the mountain of the Amorites, which the LORD our God doth give unto us.21Behold, the LORD thy God hath set the land before thee: go up and possess it , as the LORD God of thy fathers hath said unto thee; fear not, neither be discouraged.22And ye came near unto me every one of you, and said, We will send men before us, and they shall search us out the land, and bring us word again by what way we must go up, and into what cities we shall come.23And the saying pleased me well: and I took twelve men of you, one of a tribe:24And they turned and went up into the mountain, and came unto the valley of Eshcol, and searched it out.25And they took of the fruit of the land in their hands, and brought it down unto us, and brought us word again, and said, It is a good land which the LORD our God doth give us.26Notwithstanding ye would not go up, but rebelled against the commandment of the LORD your God:27And ye murmured in your tents, and said, Because the LORD hated us, he hath brought us forth out of the land of Egypt, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us.28Whither shall we go up? our brethren have discouraged our heart, saying, The people is greater and taller than we; the cities are great and walled up to heaven; and moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakims there.29Then I said unto you, Dread not, neither be afraid of them.30The LORD your God which goeth before you, he shall fight for you, according to all that he did for you in Egypt before your eyes;31And in the wilderness, where thou hast seen how that the LORD thy God bare thee, as a man doth bear his son, in all the way that ye went, until ye came into this place.32Yet in this thing ye did not believe the LORD your God,33Who went in the way before you, to search you out a place to pitch your tents in , in fire by night, to shew you by what way ye should go, and in a cloud by day.34And the LORD heard the voice of your words, and was wroth, and sware, saying,35Surely there shall not one of these men of this evil generation see that good land, which I sware to give unto your fathers,36Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh; he shall see it, and to him will I give the land that he hath trodden upon, and to his children, because he hath wholly followed the LORD.37Also the LORD was angry with me for your sakes, saying, Thou also shalt not go in thither.38But Joshua the son of Nun, which standeth before thee, he shall go in thither: encourage him: for he shall cause Israel to inherit it.39Moreover your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, and your children, which in that day had no knowledge between good and evil, they shall go in thither, and unto them will I give it, and they shall possess it.40But as for you, turn you, and take your journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea.41Then ye answered and said unto me, We have sinned against the LORD, we will go up and fight, according to all that the LORD our God commanded us. And when ye had girded on every man his weapons of war, ye were ready to go up into the hill.42And the LORD said unto me, Say unto them, Go not up, neither fight; for I am not among you; lest ye be smitten before your enemies.43So I spake unto you; and ye would not hear, but rebelled against the commandment of the LORD, and went presumptuously up into the hill.44And the Amorites, which dwelt in that mountain, came out against you, and chased you, as bees do, and destroyed you in Seir, even unto Hormah.45And ye returned and wept before the LORD; but the LORD would not hearken to your voice, nor give ear unto you.46So ye abode in Kadesh many days, according unto the days that ye abode there .

(Ge 22:17; De 10:22; De 28:62; 2Sa 24:3; Eze 16:7)12Wie könnte ich allein eure Bürde und eure Last und euren Rechtsstreit tragen?13Bringt weise und verständige und anerkannte[7] Männer für eure Stämme, dass ich sie als Oberhäupter über euch einsetze! (Ge 41:33)14Und ihr antwortetet mir und sagtet: Gut ist die Sache, die zu tun du angekündigt hast.15Und ich nahm die Oberhäupter eurer Stämme, weise und anerkannte[8] Männer, und setzte sie als Oberhäupter über euch ein, als Oberste über Tausend und Oberste über Hundert und Oberste über Fünfzig und Oberste über Zehn und als Verwalter für eure Stämme[9]. (Ex 18:21; Ex 24:1)16Und ich gebot euren Richtern in jener Zeit: Hört ⟨die Streitsachen⟩ zwischen euren Brüdern und richtet gerecht zwischen einem Mann und seinem Bruder und dem Fremden bei ihm! (Le 24:22; De 16:18; Joh 7:24)17Ihr sollt im Gericht nicht die Person ansehen; den Kleinen wie den Großen sollt ihr hören. Ihr sollt euch vor niemandem fürchten, denn das Gericht ist Gottes Sache. Die Sache aber, die zu schwer für euch ist, bringt vor mich, dass ich sie höre! (Ex 18:26; Ex 23:2; De 16:19; De 17:8; 1Sa 2:25; 2Ch 19:6; Ps 82:2; Pr 28:21; Pr 29:25; 1Ti 5:21; Jas 2:1)18So gebot ich euch in jener Zeit all die Dinge, die ihr tun solltet. (Nu 13:1; Nu 14:1)19Und wir brachen auf vom Horeb und zogen durch diese ganze große und schreckliche Wüste, die ihr gesehen habt auf dem Weg zum Gebirge der Amoriter, wie der HERR, unser Gott, es uns geboten hatte; und wir kamen bis Kadesch-Barnea. (De 1:2; Jos 10:41)20Und ich sagte zu euch: Ihr seid bis zu dem Gebirge der Amoriter gekommen, das der HERR, unser Gott, uns gibt.21Siehe, der HERR, dein Gott, hat das Land vor dir dahingegeben. Zieh hinauf, nimm in Besitz, wie der HERR, der Gott deiner Väter, zu dir geredet hat! Fürchte dich nicht und sei nicht niedergeschlagen! (Nu 14:9; De 7:18; De 20:3; De 31:6; Jos 1:9)22Da tratet ihr alle zu mir und sagtet: Lasst uns Männer vor uns hersenden, dass sie das Land für uns erkunden und uns Bericht erstatten über den Weg, auf dem wir hinaufziehen, und über die Städte, zu denen wir kommen sollen!23Und die Sache war gut in meinen Augen. Und ich nahm zwölf Männer von euch, je einen Mann für den Stamm. (Nu 32:8)24Und sie wandten sich und zogen ins Gebirge hinauf, und sie kamen bis zum Tal Eschkol und kundschafteten es[10] aus.25Und sie nahmen von den Früchten des Landes in ihre Hand und brachten ⟨sie⟩ zu uns herab. Und sie erstatteten uns Bericht und sagten: Das Land ist gut, das der HERR, unser Gott, uns gibt. (Ex 3:8)26Aber ihr wolltet nicht hinaufziehen und wart widerspenstig gegen den Befehl des HERRN, eures Gottes. (De 1:43; Ps 106:24; Isa 63:10; Heb 3:18)27Und ihr murrtet in euren Zelten[11] und sagtet: Weil der HERR uns hasst, hat er uns aus dem Land Ägypten herausgeführt, um uns in die Hand der Amoriter zu geben, damit sie uns vernichten. (De 9:28)28Wohin ziehen wir? Unsere Brüder haben unser Herz verzagt gemacht, indem sie sagten: Ein Volk, größer und höher gewachsen[12] als wir, Städte, groß und bis an den Himmel befestigt, und sogar Enakitersöhne haben wir dort gesehen! (De 2:10; De 7:17; De 9:2; Jos 14:8)29Da sagte ich zu euch: Erschreckt nicht und fürchtet euch nicht vor ihnen! (De 7:18; De 20:1; Ne 4:8)30Der HERR, euer Gott, der vor euch herzieht, er wird für euch kämpfen nach allem, was er in Ägypten vor euren Augen für euch getan hat, (Ex 10:21; Ex 14:14; Ex 15:11; Ex 19:4; De 4:34; De 7:18; De 11:3; De 20:4; De 29:2; De 31:3; De 34:11; Ro 8:31)31und in der Wüste, wo du gesehen hast, dass der HERR, dein Gott, dich getragen hat, wie ein Mann seinen Sohn trägt, auf dem ganzen Weg, den ihr gezogen seid, bis ihr an diesen Ort kamt. (Ex 19:4; Nu 11:12; De 8:5; Isa 46:3; Ho 11:3; Ac 13:18)32Aber trotzdem[13] hatte niemand von euch Vertrauen in den HERRN, euren Gott, (Ps 106:24; Heb 3:19)33der auf dem Weg vor euch herzog, um euch einen Ort auszusuchen, damit ihr euch lagern konntet: bei Nacht im Feuer, damit ihr auf dem Weg sehen konntet, auf dem ihr zoget, und bei Tag in der Wolke. (Ex 13:21; Nu 10:33; Ne 9:12)34Der HERR aber hatte den Lärm eurer Reden gehört. Da wurde er zornig und schwor:35Wenn irgendjemand unter diesen Männern, ⟨von⟩ dieser bösen Generation, das gute Land sehen wird, das ich euren Vätern zu geben geschworen habe[14]! (De 2:14; Ps 95:11; Eze 20:15)36Nur Kaleb, der Sohn des Jefunne, er soll es sehen, und ihm und seinen Söhnen werde ich das Land geben, das er betreten hat, dafür, dass er dem HERRN treu nachgefolgt ist[15]. – (Jos 14:8)37Auch gegen mich wurde der HERR zornig euretwegen und sprach: Auch du sollst nicht dort hineinkommen! (Nu 20:12; De 3:26; De 4:21; De 31:2; De 32:52; De 34:4; Ps 106:32)38Josua, der Sohn des Nun, der vor dir steht, er soll dorthin kommen! Ihn stärke, denn er soll es Israel als Erbe austeilen! – (Nu 34:17; De 3:28; De 31:7)39Und eure ⟨kleinen⟩ Kinder, von denen ihr sagtet: »Sie werden zur Beute werden!«, und eure Söhne, die heute weder Gutes noch Böses kennen, sie sollen dorthin kommen, und ihnen werde ich es geben, und sie sollen es in Besitz nehmen. (Jos 5:7)40Ihr aber, wendet euch und brecht auf[16] zur Wüste, auf dem Weg zum Schilfmeer! (De 2:1)41Da antwortetet ihr und sagtet zu mir: Wir haben gegen den HERRN gesündigt! Wir wollen hinaufziehen und kämpfen nach allem, was der HERR, unser Gott, uns geboten hat. Und ihr gürtetet ein jeder seine Waffen um und hieltet es für ein Leichtes, ins Gebirge hinaufzuziehen.42Da sprach der HERR zu mir: Sprich zu ihnen: Zieht nicht hinauf und kämpft nicht, denn ich bin nicht in eurer Mitte; damit ihr nicht vor euren Feinden geschlagen werdet!43So redete ich zu euch, aber ihr hörtet nicht. Und ihr wart widerspenstig gegen den Befehl des HERRN und handeltet vermessen und zogt in das Gebirge hinauf.44Da zogen die Amoriter aus, die auf jenem Gebirge wohnten, euch entgegen und jagten euch nach, wie es die Bienen tun, und zersprengten euch in Seïr bis nach Horma. (Jos 7:5; Ps 118:12)45Und ihr kehrtet zurück und weintet vor dem HERRN.
