1 Járjátok el Jeruzsálem utczáit, és nézzétek csak és tudjátok meg és tudakozzátok meg annak piaczain, ha találtok-é egy embert; ha van-é valaki, a ki igazán cselekszik, hûségre törekszik, és én megbocsátok néki!2 Még ha azt mondják is: Él az Úr! bizony hamisan esküsznek!3 Uram! a te szemeid avagy nem a hûségre [néznek]-é? Megverted õket, de nem bánkódtak; tönkre tetted õket, de nem akarják felvenni a dorgálást; orczáik keményebbekké lettek a kõsziklánál; nem akartak megtérni.4 Én pedig ezt mondom vala: Bizony szerencsétlenek ezek; bolondok, mert nem ismerik az Úrnak útját, Istenöknek ítéletét!5 Elmegyek azért a fõemberekhez, és beszélek velök; hiszen õk ismerik az Úrnak útját, Istenöknek ítéletét! Ámde õk törték össze egyetemlegesen az igát, és tépték le a köteleket!6 Azért széttépi õket az oroszlán az erdõbõl, elpusztítja õket a puszták farkasa, párducz ólálkodik az õ városaik körül; a ki kijön azokból, mind szétszaggattatik; mert megsokasodtak az õ bûneik, és elhatalmasodtak az õ hitszegéseik.7 Oh, miért bocsátanék meg néked? Fiaid elhagytak engem, és azokra esküsznek, a kik nem istenek; noha jól tartottam õket, mégis paráználkodtak és tolongtak a parázna házába.8 [Mint a] hizlalt lovak, viczkándozókká lettek; kiki az õ felebarátjának feleségére nyerít.9 Avagy ne büntessem-é meg az ilyeneket, mondja az Úr, és az e féle népen, mint ez, ne álljon-é bosszút az én lelkem?10 Menjetek fel az õ kerítéseire és rontsátok, de ne tegyétek semmivé egészen! Távolítsátok el az ágait, mert nem az Úréi azok!11 Mert igen hûtelenné lett hozzám az Izráel háza és a Júda háza, azt mondja az Úr!12 Megtagadták az Urat, és azt mondták: Nincsen õ, és nem jöhet reánk veszedelem: sem fegyvert, sem éhséget nem látunk!13 A próféták is széllé lesznek, és nem lesz, a ki beszéljen bennök: így esik az õ dolguk!14 Azért ezt mondja az Úr, a Seregeknek Istene: Miután ti ilyen szóval szóltatok: ímé tûzzé teszem az én igémet a te szádban, ezt a népet pedig fákká, hogy megemészsze õket!15 Ímé, én hozok reátok messzünnen való nemzetet, oh Izráel háza! ezt mondja az Úr. Kemény nemzet ez, õs idõbõl való nemzet ez; nemzet, a melynek nyelvét nem tudod, és nem érted, mit beszél!16 Tegze olyan, mint a nyitott sír; mindnyájan vitézek.17 És megemészti aratásodat és kenyeredet; megemészti fiaidat és leányaidat; megemészti juhaidat és ökreidet; megemészti szõlõdet és fügédet; erõsített városaidat, a melyekben te bizakodol, fegyverrel rontja le.18 De még ezekben a napokban sem teszlek benneteket egészen semmivé, azt mondja az Úr.19 Ha pedig az lenne, hogy kérdeznétek: Miért cselekedte mindezt velünk az Úr, a mi Istenünk? akkor azt mondjad nékik: A miképen elhagytatok engem és idegen isteneknek szolgáltatok a ti földeteken: azonképen idegeneknek fogtok szolgálni olyan földön, a mely nem a tiétek.20 Hirdessétek ezt a Jákób házában, és hallassátok Júdában, mondván:21 Halljátok csak, te bolond és esztelen nép, a kiknek szemeik vannak, de nem látnak; füleik vannak, de nem hallanak!22 Nem féltek-é engem? ezt mondja az Úr. Az én orczám elõtt nem remegtek-é? Hiszen én rendeltem a fövenyet a tenger határának örök korlátul, a melyet át nem hághat, és ha megrázkódtatják is habjai, de nem bírnak vele, és ha megháborodnak, sem hághatnak át rajta.23 De ennek a népnek szilaj és daczos szíve van; elhajlottak és elmentek;24 És még szívökben sem mondják: Oh, csak félnõk az Urat, a mi Istenünket, a ki esõt, korai és késõi záport ad annak idejében; az aratásnak rendelt heteit megõrzi számunkra!25 A ti bûneitek fordították el ezeket tõletek, és a ti vétkeitek fosztottak meg titeket e jótól!26 Mert istentelenek vannak az én népem között; guggolva fülelnek, mint a madarászok; tõrt hánynak, embereket fogdosnak.27 Mint a madárral teli kalitka, úgy vannak teli az õ házaik álnoksággal; ezért lettek nagyokká és gazdagokká!28 Meghíztak, megfényesedtek; eláradtak a gonosz beszédben; az árvának ügyét nem ítélik igaz ítélettel, hogy boldoguljanak; sem a szegényeknek nem szolgáltatnak igazságot.29 Hát ezeket ne büntessem-é meg, ezt mondja az Úr; az ilyen nemzeten, mint ez, avagy ne álljon-é bosszút az én lelkem?30 Borzadalmas és rettenetes dolgok történnek e földön:31 A próféták hamisan prófétálnak, és a papok tetszésök szerint hatalmaskodnak, és az én népem így szereti! De mit cselekesznek majd utoljára?!
1Run to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, look and take note! Search her squares to see if you can find a man, one who does justice and seeks truth, that I may pardon her. You have struck them down, but they felt no anguish; you have consumed them, but they refused to take correction. They have made their faces harder than rock; they have refused to repent. (Jer 2,30; Ez 3,8)4Then I said, “These are only the poor; they have no sense; for they do not know the way of the Lord, the justice of their God. (Jer 8,7; Mik 3,1)5I will go to the great and will speak to them, for they know the way of the Lord, the justice of their God.” But they all alike had broken the yoke; they had burst the bonds. (Zsolt 2,3; Zsolt 107,14; Jer 2,20)6Therefore a lion from the forest shall strike them down; a wolf from the desert shall devastate them. A leopard is watching their cities; everyone who goes out of them shall be torn in pieces, because their transgressions are many, their apostasies are great. (Jer 2,19; Jer 4,7; Hós 13,7; Hab 1,8; Zof 3,3)7“How can I pardon you? Your children have forsaken me and have sworn by those who are no gods. When I fed them to the full, they committed adultery and trooped to the houses of whores. (5Móz 32,15; 5Móz 32,21; Józs 23,7; 2Krón 13,9; Jer 5,1; Jer 9,2; Jer 23,10; Mik 5,1; Gal 4,8)8They were well-fed, lusty stallions, each neighing for his neighbor’s wife. (Jer 13,27; Jer 50,11; Ez 22,11)9Shall I not punish them for these things? declares the Lord; and shall I not avenge myself on a nation such as this? (Jer 5,29; Jer 9,9; Róm 2,2)10“Go up through her vine rows and destroy, but make not a full end; strip away her branches, for they are not the Lord’s. (Jer 4,27; Jer 39,8)11For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have been utterly treacherous to me, declares the Lord. (Jer 3,20)12They have spoken falsely of the Lord and have said, ‘He will do nothing; no disaster will come upon us, nor shall we see sword or famine. (1Móz 3,4; Ézs 28,15; Jer 14,13)13The prophets will become wind; the word is not in them. Thus shall it be done to them!’”
The Lord Proclaims Judgment
14Therefore thus says the Lord, the God of hosts: “Because you have spoken this word, behold, I am making my words in your mouth a fire, and this people wood, and the fire shall consume them. (Jer 1,9; Abd 1,18; Zak 12,6; Jel 11,5)15Behold, I am bringing against you a nation from afar, O house of Israel, declares the Lord. It is an enduring nation; it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language you do not know, nor can you understand what they say. (5Móz 28,49; Ézs 33,19; Jer 1,15; Jer 34,21; Ám 6,14)16Their quiver is like an open tomb; they are all mighty warriors. (Zsolt 5,9; Ézs 5,28)17They shall eat up your harvest and your food; they shall eat up your sons and your daughters; they shall eat up your flocks and your herds; they shall eat up your vines and your fig trees; your fortified cities in which you trust they shall beat down with the sword.” (3Móz 26,16; 5Móz 28,31; 5Móz 28,33; 5Móz 28,51; Hós 8,14)18“But even in those days, declares the Lord, I will not make a full end of you. (Jer 5,10)19And when your people say, ‘Why has the Lord our God done all these things to us?’ you shall say to them, ‘As you have forsaken me and served foreign gods in your land, so you shall serve foreigners in a land that is not yours.’” (5Móz 4,27; 5Móz 28,47; 5Móz 28,68; 5Móz 29,24; 1Kir 9,8; Jer 13,22; Jer 16,10; Jer 22,8)20Declare this in the house of Jacob; proclaim it in Judah:21“Hear this, O foolish and senseless people, who have eyes, but see not, who have ears, but hear not. I placed the sand as the boundary for the sea, a perpetual barrier that it cannot pass; though the waves toss, they cannot prevail; though they roar, they cannot pass over it. (Jób 26,10; Jób 38,10; Zsolt 46,3; Zsolt 104,9; Jer 10,7; Jer 51,55)23But this people has a stubborn and rebellious heart; they have turned aside and gone away. (Jer 6,28)24They do not say in their hearts, ‘Let us fear the Lord our God, who gives the rain in its season, the autumn rain and the spring rain, and keeps for us the weeks appointed for the harvest.’ (1Móz 8,22; 5Móz 11,14; Jób 5,10; Zsolt 147,8; Jer 14,22; Mt 5,45)25Your iniquities have turned these away, and your sins have kept good from you. (Jer 3,3)26For wicked men are found among my people; they lurk like fowlers lying in wait.[1] They set a trap; they catch men. (Zsolt 10,9; Zsolt 124,7; Péld 1,11)27Like a cage full of birds, their houses are full of deceit; therefore they have become great and rich;28they have grown fat and sleek. They know no bounds in deeds of evil; they judge not with justice the cause of the fatherless, to make it prosper, and they do not defend the rights of the needy. (5Móz 32,15; Ézs 1,23; Jer 7,6; Zak 7,10)29Shall I not punish them for these things? declares the Lord, and shall I not avenge myself on a nation such as this?” (Jer 5,9)30An appalling and horrible thing has happened in the land: (Jer 23,14; Hós 6,10)31the prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests rule at their direction; my people love to have it so, but what will you do when the end comes? (Jer 6,13; Jer 14,14; Jer 14,18; Jer 20,6; Jer 23,21; Jer 23,25; Jer 27,10; Jer 27,15; Jer 29,9; Ez 13,6; Mik 2,11)
