1»Schreib an den Engel der Gemeinde in Ephesus: Der in seiner rechten Hand die sieben Sterne hält und zwischen den sieben goldenen Leuchtern umhergeht, der lässt dieser Gemeinde sagen:2Ich weiß, wie viel Gutes du tust, weiß von all deiner Arbeit, und ich kenne auch deine Standhaftigkeit. Es ist gut, dass du die Bösen in eurer Mitte nicht duldest und die als Lügner entlarvst, die sich als Apostel ausgeben und es doch nicht sind.3Weil du dich zu mir bekennst, musstest du geduldig Schweres ertragen, und du hast niemals aufgegeben.4Aber eines habe ich an dir auszusetzen: Von deiner anfänglichen Liebe ist nicht mehr viel übrig.5Weißt du noch, mit welcher Hingabe du einmal begonnen hast? Was ist davon geblieben? Kehr um und handle wieder so wie zu Beginn.[1] Sonst werde ich kommen und deinen Leuchter von seinem Platz stoßen.6Eins aber will ich dir zugutehalten: Dir ist das Treiben der Nikolaïten[2] ebenso verhasst wie mir.7Wer Ohren hat, soll hören, was Gottes Geist den Gemeinden sagt. Wer durchhält und den Sieg erringt, dem will ich die Früchte vom Baum des Lebens zu essen geben, der in Gottes Paradies steht.«

8»An den Engel der Gemeinde in Smyrna schreibe: Diese Botschaft kommt von dem, der zugleich der Erste und der Letzte ist, der tot war und nun wieder lebt.9Ich kenne die Verfolgung, die du ertragen musst, und ich weiß, in welcher Armut du lebst; doch in Wirklichkeit bist du reich. Mir ist auch nicht entgangen, wie bösartig euch die Leute verleumden, die sich als Juden ausgeben, in Wirklichkeit aber Gehilfen des Satans[3] sind.10Fürchte dich nicht vor dem, was dir noch bevorsteht. Der Teufel wird einige von euch ins Gefängnis bringen, um euch auf die Probe zu stellen. Zehn Tage lang werdet ihr leiden müssen. Bleib mir treu, auch wenn es dich das Leben kostet. Dann werde ich dir als Siegespreis das ewige Leben geben.11Wer Ohren hat, soll hören, was Gottes Geist den Gemeinden sagt. 12»Schreib an den Engel der Gemeinde in Pergamon: Das lässt dir der sagen, der das scharfe, doppelschneidige Schwert trägt.13Ich weiß, dass du in einer Stadt wohnst, die vom Satan regiert wird[4]. Trotzdem bekennst du dich treu zu mir und hast deinen Glauben nicht widerrufen, selbst dann nicht, als Antipas, mein treuer Zeuge, in dieser Hochburg des Satans getötet wurde.14Und doch habe ich etwas an dir auszusetzen: Du duldest in eurer Mitte Leute, die an der Lehre von Bileam festhalten. Aber Bileam hatte Balak erklärt, wie er das Volk Israel ins Verderben stürzen konnte. Er verführte sie, das Fleisch von Götzenopfern zu essen, und verleitete sie zu sexueller Unmoral.15Es gibt auch unter euch solche Leute: Sie folgen den Nikolaïten und ihrer Irrlehre.[5]16Kehr zu mir um, sonst werde ich sehr schnell zu dir kommen und gegen diese Leute mit dem Schwert aus meinem Mund kämpfen.17Wer Ohren hat, soll hören, was Gottes Geist den Gemeinden sagt. Wer durchhält und den Sieg erringt, wird Brot vom Himmel[6] essen, und ich werde ihm einen weißen Stein geben. Darauf steht ein neuer Name, den nur der kennt, der ihn erhält.« (2Mo 16,1; 4Mo 11,1)

18»Schreib an den Engel der Gemeinde in Thyatira: Dies sagt dir der Sohn Gottes, dessen Augen wie die Flammen eines Feuers leuchten und dessen Füße wie glühende Bronze glänzen.19Ich sehe alles, was du tust. Ich weiß, mit welcher Liebe du mir dienst und mit welcher Treue du am Glauben festhältst. Ich kenne deinen Dienst für andere und deine Standhaftigkeit. Und heute setzt du dich noch mehr ein als früher.20Trotzdem habe ich etwas an dir auszusetzen: Du unternimmst nichts gegen Isebel, die sich als Prophetin ausgibt. Durch ihre Lehre verführt sie die Menschen, die mir dienen, zu sexueller Unmoral und ermuntert sie, ohne Bedenken das Fleisch der Götzenopfer zu essen.21Ich habe ihr genug Zeit gegeben, ihr Leben zu ändern. Aber sie weigert sich, umzukehren und ihr unmoralisches Leben aufzugeben.22Darum werfe ich sie aufs Krankenbett. Und auch ihre Liebhaber werden schwer leiden müssen, wenn sie sich nicht vom bösen Treiben dieser Frau abwenden.23Alle ihre Anhänger[7] werde ich dem Tod ausliefern. Dann werden alle Gemeinden wissen, dass ich die Menschen durch und durch kenne, selbst ihre geheimsten Gedanken und Wünsche. Und ich werde jeden von euch nach dem richten, was er getan hat.24Allen anderen in Thyatira, die dieser Irrlehre nicht gefolgt sind und sich auf diese sogenannten tiefen Erkenntnisse über den Satan nicht eingelassen haben, will ich keine zusätzlichen Lasten auferlegen.25Haltet nur unerschütterlich an dem fest, was ihr habt, bis ich komme.26Wer durchhält und den Sieg erringt, wer bis zuletzt nach meinem Willen lebt, dem werde ich Macht über die Völker der Erde geben.27Mit eisernem Zepter wird er über sie herrschen und sie zerbrechen wie Tongefäße.28Und wie mein Vater mir Macht und Herrschaft gab, will ich sie auch jedem geben, der im Glauben festbleibt. (Offb 2,2)20But I have this against you, that you tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess and is teaching and seducing my servants to practice sexual immorality and to eat food sacrificed to idols. 1«All’angelo della chiesa di Efeso scrivi: queste cose dice colui che tiene le sette stelle nella sua destra e cammina in mezzo ai sette candelabri d’oro:2“Io conosco le tue opere, la tua fatica, la tua costanza; so che non puoi sopportare i malvagi e hai messo alla prova quelli che si chiamano apostoli ma non lo sono, e che li hai trovati bugiardi.3So che hai costanza, hai sopportato molte cose per amore del mio nome e non ti sei stancato.4Ma ho questo contro di te: che hai abbandonato il tuo primo amore.5Ricorda dunque da dove sei caduto, ravvediti, e compi le opere di prima; altrimenti verrò da te e rimuoverò il tuo candelabro dal suo posto, se non ti ravvedi[1].6Tuttavia hai questo: che detesti le opere dei Nicolaiti[2], che anch’io detesto.7Chi ha orecchi ascolti ciò che lo Spirito dice alle chiese. Sii fedele fino alla morte e io ti darò la corona della vita.11Chi ha orecchi ascolti ciò che lo Spirito dice alle chiese. Chi vince non sarà colpito dalla morte seconda”.
Lettera alla chiesa di Pergamo
12«All’angelo della chiesa di Pergamo scrivi: queste cose dice colui che ha la spada affilata a due tagli:13“Io conosco dove tu abiti, cioè là dov’è il trono di Satana; tuttavia tu rimani fedele al mio nome e non hai rinnegato la fede in me, neppure ai giorni di Antipa[3], il mio fedele testimone, che fu ucciso fra voi, là dove Satana abita.14Ma ho qualcosa contro di te: hai alcuni che professano la dottrina di Balaam, il quale insegnava a Balac il modo di far cadere i figli d’Israele, inducendoli a mangiare carni sacrificate agli idoli e a fornicare.15Così anche tu hai alcuni che professano similmente la dottrina dei Nicolaiti.16Ravvediti dunque, altrimenti fra poco verrò da te e combatterò contro di loro con la spada della mia bocca.17Chi ha orecchi ascolti ciò che lo Spirito dice alle chiese. A chi vince io darò della manna[4] nascosta e una pietruzza bianca, sulla quale è scritto un nome nuovo che nessuno conosce, se non colui che lo riceve”.

18«All’angelo della chiesa di Tiatiri scrivi: queste cose dice il Figlio di Dio, che ha gli occhi come fiamma di fuoco e i piedi simili a bronzo incandescente:19“Io conosco le tue opere, il tuo amore, la tua fede, il tuo servizio, la tua costanza; so che le tue ultime opere sono più numerose delle prime.20Ma ho questo contro di te: che tu tolleri Iezabel, quella donna che si dice profetessa e insegna e induce i miei servi a commettere fornicazione e a mangiare carni sacrificate agli idoli.21Le ho dato tempo perché si ravvedesse, ma lei non vuole ravvedersi della sua fornicazione.22Ecco, io la getto sopra un letto di dolore e metto in una grande tribolazione coloro che commettono adulterio con lei, se non si ravvedono delle opere che ella compie.23Metterò anche a morte i suoi figli; e tutte le chiese conosceranno che io sono colui che scruta le reni e i cuori, e darò a ciascuno di voi secondo le sue opere.24Ma agli altri di voi, in Tiatiri, che non professate tale dottrina e non avete conosciuto le profondità di Satana (come le chiamano loro), io dico: non vi impongo altro peso;25soltanto, quello che avete tenetelo fermamente finché io venga.26A chi vince e persevera nelle mie opere sino alla fine, darò potere sulle nazioni,27ed egli le reggerà con una verga di ferro e le frantumerà come vasi d’argilla[5],28come anch’io ho ricevuto potere dal Padre mio; e gli darò la stella del mattino.29Chi ha orecchi ascolti ciò che lo Spirito dice alle chiese”.
