Het Boek

1 HERE, U bent de enige die het recht heeft wraak te nemen. Kom met uw licht naar ons toe. 2 U bent de grote rechter van deze aarde. Sta op en spreek uw oordeel uit over alle hoogmoedige mensen. 3 Hoelang mogen de ongelovigen nog blij zijn dat zij het wel alleen kunnen, HERE? 4 Zij spreken smalend en hooghartig, al die zondaars denken dat zij het hoogste woord kunnen voeren. 5 Zij lopen uw volk onder de voet, HERE. Zij onderdrukken uw land. 6 Zij plegen moord en doodslag onder de vreemdelingen, de weduwen en wezen. 7 Zij denken bij zichzelf: ‘De HERE ziet het toch niet, ach, Jakobs God heeft wel iets anders te doen.’ 8 Laten alle onverstandigen maar eens opletten. Dwazen, ga uw hersens maar eens gebruiken! 9 Denkt u nu echt dat God, die het oor maakte, Zelf niet horen kan? Of dat de Maker van het oog Zelf niets ziet? 10 Hij leert de volken hoe zij moeten leven, daarom zal Hij hen ook straffen. Hij geeft de mensen immers alles wat zij nodig hebben? 11 De HERE weet precies wat in de mensen omgaat: het is allemaal nutteloos. 12 Gelukkig is de man die door U wordt getuchtigd, HERE. Die van U onderricht krijgt in uw wetten. 13 Hij zal rust ervaren in moeilijke tijden, zelfs als zijn vijand een val voor hem opzet. 14 De HERE laat zijn volk niet in de steek, Hij blijft naar hen omzien. 15 Er zal weer eerlijk recht worden gesproken en alle oprechte mensen zullen zich daarbij aansluiten. 16 Wie verdedigt mij tegen deze slechte mensen? Wie komt voor mij op tegen deze zondaars? 17 Als de HERE mij niet had geholpen, had niemand meer iets van mij gehoord. 18 Juist toen ik dacht dat ik het niet meer aankon, ervoer ik de kracht van uw goedheid en liefde, HERE. 19 Terwijl allerlei gedachten in mij omgingen, waren het juist uw troostwoorden die mij opbeurden. 20 Zou U iets te maken hebben met de plaats waar de zonde zetelt? Waar men zogenaamd uit eerlijkheid het grootste onheil aanricht? 21 Dat soort mensen loert op het leven van de oprechte mensen, zij veroordelen onschuldigen. 22 Maar ik vond mijn toevlucht bij de HERE, Hij was mij tot een burcht. Mijn God is mijn rots. 23 Hij heeft hun het kwaad vergolden. Hij vernietigde hen in hun zonde. Hij is de HERE, onze God.

5 They crush your people, O Lord, and afflict your heritage. 13 to give him rest from days of trouble, until a pit is dug for the wicked.
