1Op die dag zal de HERE zijn vreselijke, flitsende zwaard nemen en Leviatan, het snel bewegende reptiel, de kronkelende slang, de draak van de zee, doden.2Laat op die dag van Israëls vrijheid dit lied worden gezongen:3Israël is mijn wijngaard, Ik, de HERE, zal de mooie druiventrossen verzorgen en opkweken, elke dag zal Ik ze water geven en dag en nacht zal Ik de wacht houden tegen alle vijanden.4Mijn toorn tegen Israël is verdwenen. Als Ik dorens en distels vind die haar lastigvallen, zal Ik ze verbranden,5tenzij deze vijanden vrede met Mij sluiten en mijn bescherming zoeken.6Er zal een tijd komen dat Israël wortel schiet, uitbot en bloeit en de hele wereld met haar vruchten vult!7-8Heeft God Israël net zo zwaar gestraft als Hij haar vijanden strafte? Nee, want Hij heeft haar vijanden vernietigd, terwijl Hij Israël slechts licht strafte door haar ver van het eigen land in ballingschap te sturen, als werd zij weggeblazen als kaf door een storm.9En waarom deed God dat? Om haar zonden te verzoenen en haar te ontdoen van haar afgodenaltaren en afgoden.10De ommuurde steden zullen stil en verlaten zijn, de huizen verwaarloosd. Er zal gras in de straten groeien en koeien zullen in de stad grazen en de twijgen en takken afbreken.11Mijn volk is als de dode takken van een boom die worden afgebroken en onder etenspotten worden opgestookt. Deze mensen vormen een onverstandige natie, een dom volk, want zij keren zich van God af. Daarom zal Hij die hen maakte, geen medelijden hebben en hun niet genadig zijn.12Toch zal er een tijd komen dat de HERE hen één voor één bij elkaar zoekt als met de hand uitgezocht koren. Hij zal hen overal vandaan opnemen van zijn grote dorsvloer die tussen de Eufraat en de Egyptische grens ligt.13Op die dag zal er op de grote trompet worden geblazen en zij die naar Assur of Egypte verbannen waren, zullen gered worden en naar Jeruzalem terugkeren om de HERE op zijn heilige berg te aanbidden.

(Jes 10:17)5Or let them lay hold of my protection, let them make peace with me, let them make peace with me.”6In days to come[2] Jacob shall take root, Israel shall blossom and put forth shoots and fill the whole world with fruit. (Jes 37:31; Hos 14:5)7Has he struck them as he struck those who struck them? Or have they been slain as their slayers were slain? (Jes 37:18; Jes 37:36; Hos 6:1)8Measure by measure,[3] by exile you contended with them; he removed them with his fierce breath[4] in the day of the east wind. (Jer 10:24; Jer 18:17)9Therefore by this the guilt of Jacob will be atoned for, and this will be the full fruit of the removal of his sin:[5] when he makes all the stones of the altars like chalkstones crushed to pieces, no Asherim or incense altars will remain standing. (Deut 16:21; 2 Kon 18:4; Jes 22:14)10For the fortified city is solitary, a habitation deserted and forsaken, like the wilderness; there the calf grazes; there it lies down and strips its branches. (Jes 17:9; Jes 32:14; Jes 32:19; Hos 8:14; Mi 5:11)11When its boughs are dry, they are broken; women come and make a fire of them. For this is a people without discernment; therefore he who made them will not have compassion on them; he who formed them will show them no favor. (Deut 32:28; Jes 30:16)12In that day from the river Euphrates[6] to the Brook of Egypt the Lord will thresh out the grain, and you will be gleaned one by one, O people of Israel. (Gen 15:18)13And in that day a great trumpet will be blown, and those who were lost in the land of Assyria and those who were driven out to the land of Egypt will come and worship the Lord on the holy mountain at Jerusalem.
