Het lied van Juda

1 In die tijd zal het hele land Juda dit lied zingen: Onze stad is sterk! Wij worden omringd door de muren van zijn redding! 2 Open de poorten voor iedereen, want allen die rechtvaardig en trouw aan de HERE zijn, mogen binnenkomen. 3 Degenen die op Hem blijven vertrouwen, die vaak hun gedachten aan de HERE wijden, zal Hij in volkomen vrede laten leven! 4 Vertrouw altijd op de HERE God, want de Oppermachtige HERE is uw eeuwige toevlucht. 5 Hij vernedert de trotsen en haalt de muren van de hoogmoedige stad om, 6 ze wordt onder de voet gelopen, vertrapt door de armen en machtelozen. 7 Maar voor de goede mensen is het pad niet steil en ruw! God geeft hun geen ruw en verraderlijk pad, maar effent de weg voor hen. 8 O HERE, wij vinden het heerlijk om uw wil te doen! Ons hart verlangt ernaar uw naam te prijzen. 9 Zelfs ʼs nachts zoek ik naar U, vastbesloten zoek ik naar God, want als U als rechter naar de aarde komt, zullen de mensen zich van hun verdorvenheid afkeren en doen wat goed is. 10 Ook al vergeeft U hen, de goddelozen leren het nooit, zelfs in het land waar rechtvaardigheid heerst blijven zij zondigen en merken zij uw majesteit niet op. 11 Zij luisteren niet naar uw dreigementen en negeren uw dreigend opgeheven hand. Laat hun zien hoe na uw volk U aan het hart ligt. Misschien zullen zij zich dan schamen! Ja, laat hen verbranden door het vuur dat U had bestemd voor uw vijanden. 12 HERE, geef ons uw vrede, want alles wat wij bezitten en zijn, is van U afkomstig. 13 O HERE, onze God, andere heren heersten over ons, maar nu aanbidden wij U alleen. 14 Degenen die wij vroeger dienden, zijn dood en vergeten, zij zullen nooit meer terugkeren. U keerde Zich tegen hen en vernietigde hen en zij zijn al lange tijd vergeten. 15 Prijs de HERE! Hij heeft ons tot een machtig volk gemaakt. Hij heeft de grenzen van ons land uitgebreid! 16 HERE, in onze wanhoop zochten wij U. Toen uw straf ons trof, riepen wij U aan. 17 Wat misten wij uw aanwezigheid, HERE! Wij leden als een vrouw die een kind ter wereld brengt en daarbij schreeuwt en ineenkrimpt van de pijn. 18 Ook wij zijn ineengekrompen van vreselijke angst, maar het baatte niet. Al onze pogingen konden ons niet verlossen. 19 Desondanks weten wij één ding zeker: zij die het eigendom van God zijn, zullen opnieuw leven. Hun lichamen zullen weer opstaan en zij zullen zingen van blijdschap! Want Gods levenslicht zal als dauw op hen vallen! 20 Ga naar huis, mijn volk, en doe uw deuren op slot! Verberg u een korte tijd, totdat de toorn van de HERE tegen uw vijanden voorbij is. 21 Kijk! De HERE komt uit de hemelen om de mensen van de aarde te straffen voor hun zonden. De aarde zal de moordenaars niet langer verbergen. De schuldigen zullen worden gevonden.

1 In that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah: “We have a strong city; he sets up salvation as walls and bulwarks. (Jes 27:2; Jes 60:18) 2 Open the gates, that the righteous nation that keeps faith may enter in. (Ps 118:19) 3 You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. (Jes 30:15) 4 Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock. 5 For he has humbled the inhabitants of the height, the lofty city. He lays it low, lays it low to the ground, casts it to the dust. (Jes 25:12) 6 The foot tramples it, the feet of the poor, the steps of the needy.” (Jes 25:4) 7 The path of the righteous is level; you make level the way of the righteous. (1 Sam 2:9; Ps 37:23) 8 In the path of your judgments, O Lord, we wait for you; your name and remembrance are the desire of our soul. (Ex 3:15) 9 My soul yearns for you in the night; my spirit within me earnestly seeks you. For when your judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world learn righteousness. (2 Kron 33:12; Jes 26:16) 10 If favor is shown to the wicked, he does not learn righteousness; in the land of uprightness he deals corruptly and does not see the majesty of the Lord. (Ps 73:3) 11 O Lord, your hand is lifted up, but they do not see it. Let them see your zeal for your people, and be ashamed. Let the fire for your adversaries consume them. 20 Come, my people, enter your chambers, and shut your doors behind you; hide yourselves for a little while until the fury has passed by.
