Sondern in Demut schätze einer den andern höher ein als sich selbst. (Röm 12,10; Gal 5,26)4Jeder achte nicht nur auf das eigene Wohl, sondern auch auf das der anderen. (1Kor 10,24; 1Kor 13,5)
Die Erniedrigung und Erhöhung Christi
5Seid untereinander so gesinnt, wie es dem Leben in Christus Jesus entspricht:[1] (Joh 13,15)6Er war Gott gleich, / hielt aber nicht daran fest, Gott gleich zu sein,[2] (Joh 1,1; Joh 17,5)7sondern er entäußerte sich / und wurde wie ein Sklave / und den Menschen gleich. / Sein Leben war das eines Menschen; (Jes 53,3; 2Kor 8,9; Hebr 2,14)8er erniedrigte sich / und war gehorsam bis zum Tod, / bis zum Tod am Kreuz. (Lk 14,11; Hebr 5,8; Hebr 12,2)9Darum hat ihn Gott über alle erhöht / und ihm den Namen verliehen, / der größer ist als alle Namen, (Eph 1,20; Hebr 1,3)10damit alle im Himmel, auf der Erde und unter der Erde ihr Knie beugen / vor dem Namen Jesu (Jes 45,23; Mt 28,18; Joh 5,22; Offb 5,12)11und jeder Mund bekennt: / Jesus Christus ist der Herr / zur Ehre Gottes, des Vaters. (Apg 2,36; Röm 10,9; Röm 14,9)
Die Sorge des Apostels um das Heil der Gemeinde
12Darum, meine Geliebten, - ihr wart ja immer gehorsam, nicht nur in meiner Gegenwart, sondern noch viel mehr jetzt in meiner Abwesenheit -: Wirkt mit Furcht und Zittern euer Heil!13Denn Gott ist es, der in euch das Wollen und das Vollbringen bewirkt zu seinem Wohlgefallen. (Phil 1,6)14Tut alles ohne Murren und Bedenken,15damit ihr rein und ohne Tadel seid, Kinder Gottes ohne Makel mitten in einer verkehrten und verwirrten Generation, unter der ihr als Lichter in der Welt leuchtet! (Dan 12,3; Mt 5,14; Eph 5,8; Phil 1,10)16Haltet fest am Wort des Lebens, mir zum Ruhm für den Tag Christi, damit ich nicht vergeblich gelaufen bin oder mich umsonst abgemüht habe! (Jes 49,4; 2Kor 1,14; Gal 2,2; Gal 4,11)17Doch wenn auch mein Leben dargebracht wird zusammen mit dem Opfer und Gottesdienst eures Glaubens, freue ich mich und freue mich mit euch allen.18Ebenso freut auch ihr euch und freut euch mit mir! (Phil 3,1; Phil 4,4)
DIE PLÄNE DES APOSTELS
19Ich hoffe aber in Jesus, dem Herrn, Timotheus bald zu euch schicken zu können, damit auch ich ermutigt werde, wenn ich erfahre, wie es um euch steht. (Apg 16,1; 1Thess 3,2)20Denn ich habe keinen Gleichgesinnten, der so aufrichtig um eure Sache besorgt ist;21denn alle suchen ihren Vorteil, nicht, was Jesu Christi ist.22Ihr wisst ja, wie er sich bewährt hat: Wie ein Kind dem Vater - so hat er mit mir zusammen dem Evangelium gedient.23Diesen also hoffe ich schicken zu können, sobald ich meine Lage übersehe.24Doch ich habe die Zuversicht im Herrn, dass auch ich bald kommen kann. (Phil 1,25)25Ich hielt es aber für notwendig, Epaphroditus, meinen Bruder, Mitarbeiter und Mitstreiter, euren Abgesandten und Helfer in meiner Not, zu euch zu schicken. (Phil 4,18)26Denn er sehnte sich nach euch allen und war beunruhigt, weil ihr hörtet, dass er krank geworden sei.27Und er war tatsächlich so krank, dass er dem Tod nahe war. Aber Gott hatte Erbarmen mit ihm, und nicht nur mit ihm, sondern auch mit mir, damit ich nicht vom Kummer überwältigt würde.28Umso mehr beeile ich mich, ihn zu schicken, damit ihr euch wieder freut, wenn ihr ihn seht, und auch ich weniger Kummer habe.29Nehmt ihn also im Herrn mit aller Freude auf und haltet Menschen wie ihn in Ehren,30denn wegen des Werkes Christi kam er dem Tod nahe! Er hat sein Leben aufs Spiel gesetzt, um zu vollenden, was an eurem Dienst für mich noch gefehlt hat.
1So does belonging to Christ help you in any way? Does his love comfort you at all? Do you share anything in common because of the Holy Spirit? Has Christ ever been gentle and loving towards you?2If any of these things has happened to you, then agree with one another. Have the same love. Be one in spirit and in the way you think and act. By doing this, you will make my joy complete.3Don’t do anything only to get ahead. Don’t do it because you are proud. Instead, be humble. Value others more than yourselves.4None of you should look out just for your own good. Each of you should also look out for the good of others.5As you deal with one another, you should think and act as Jesus did.6In his very nature he was God. Jesus was equal with God. But Jesus didn’t take advantage of that fact.7Instead, he made himself nothing. He did this by taking on the nature of a servant. He was made just like human beings.8He appeared as a man. He was humble and obeyed God completely. He did this even though it led to his death. Even worse, he died on a cross!9So God lifted him up to the highest place. God gave him the name that is above every name.10When the name of Jesus is spoken, everyone will kneel down to worship him. Everyone in heaven and on earth and under the earth will kneel down to worship him.11Everyone’s mouth will say that Jesus Christ is Lord. And God the Father will receive the glory.
Live without complaining
12My dear friends, you have always obeyed God. You obeyed while I was with you. And you have obeyed even more while I am not with you. So continue to work out your own salvation. Do it with fear and trembling.13God is working in you. He wants your plans and your acts to fulfil his good purpose.14Do everything without complaining or arguing.15Then you will be pure and without blame. You will be children of God without fault among sinful and evil people. Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky.16You will shine as you hold on tight to the word of life. Then I will be able to boast about you on the day Christ returns. I can be happy that I didn’t run or work for nothing.17But my life might even be poured out like a drink offering on your sacrifices. I’m talking about the way you serve because you believe. Even so, I am glad. I am joyful with all of you.18So you too should be glad and joyful with me.
Timothy and Epaphroditus
19I hope to send Timothy to you soon if the Lord Jesus allows it. Then I will be encouraged when I receive news about you.20I have no one else like Timothy. He will truly care about how you are doing.21All the others are looking out for their own interests. They are not looking out for the interests of Jesus Christ.22But you know that Timothy has proved himself. He has served with me like a son with his father in spreading the good news.23So I hope to send him as soon as I see how things go with me.24And I’m sure I myself will come soon if the Lord allows it.25But I think it’s necessary to send Epaphroditus back to you. He is my brother in the Lord. He is a worker and a soldier of Christ together with me. He is also your messenger. You sent him to take care of my needs.26He longs for all of you. He is troubled because you heard he was ill.27He was very ill. In fact, he almost died. But God had mercy on him. He also had mercy on me. God spared me sadness after sadness.28So I want even more to send him to you. Then when you see him again, you will be glad. And I won’t worry so much.29So then, welcome him as a brother in the Lord with great joy. Honour people like him.30He almost died for the work of Christ. He put his life in danger to make up for the help you yourselves couldn’t give me.
