Die Wahl der Zwölf

1 Dann rief er seine zwölf Jünger zu sich und gab ihnen die Vollmacht, die unreinen Geister auszutreiben und alle Krankheiten und Leiden zu heilen. (Mk 3,13; Mk 6,7; Lk 6,12; Lk 9,1)

2 Die Namen der zwölf Apostel sind: an erster Stelle Simon, genannt Petrus, und sein Bruder Andreas, dann Jakobus, der Sohn des Zebedäus, und sein Bruder Johannes, (Apg 1,13) 3 Philippus und Bartholomäus, Thomas und Matthäus, der Zöllner, Jakobus, der Sohn des Alphäus, und Thaddäus, 4 Simon Kananäus und Judas Iskariot, der ihn ausgeliefert hat.^[1]

5 Diese Zwölf sandte Jesus aus und gebot ihnen: Geht nicht den Weg zu den Heiden und betretet keine Stadt der Samariter, (Mk 6,8; Lk 9,2) 6 sondern geht zu den verlorenen Schafen des Hauses Israel! (Mt 15,24) 7 Geht und verkündet: Das Himmelreich ist nahe! (Mt 4,17) 8 Heilt Kranke, weckt Tote auf, macht Aussätzige rein, treibt Dämonen aus! Umsonst habt ihr empfangen, umsonst sollt ihr geben. 9 Steckt nicht Gold, Silber und Kupfermünzen in euren Gürtel! 10 Nehmt keine Vorratstasche mit auf den Weg, kein zweites Hemd, keine Schuhe, keinen Wanderstab; denn wer arbeitet, ist seines Lohnes wert. (Lk 10,4; 1Kor 9,6; 1Tim 5,18) 11 Wenn ihr in eine Stadt oder in ein Dorf kommt, erkundigt euch, wer es wert ist, euch aufzunehmen; bei ihm bleibt, bis ihr den Ort wieder verlasst. 12 Wenn ihr in ein Haus kommt, dann entbietet ihm den Gruß. 13 Wenn das Haus es wert ist, soll euer Friede bei ihm einkehren. Wenn das Haus es aber nicht wert ist, dann soll euer Friede zu euch zurückkehren. 14 Und wenn man euch nicht aufnimmt und eure Worte nicht hören will, geht weg aus jenem Haus oder aus jener Stadt und schüttelt den Staub von euren Füßen! (Apg 13,51) 15 Amen, ich sage euch: Dem Gebiet von Sodom und Gomorra wird es am Tag des Gerichts erträglicher ergehen als dieser Stadt. (1Mo 19,23; Mt 11,24)

Gefährdung und Ermutigung der Jünger

16 Siehe, ich sende euch wie Schafe mitten unter die Wölfe; seid daher klug wie die Schlangen und arglos wie die Tauben! (Lk 10,3) 17 Nehmt euch aber vor den Menschen in Acht! Denn sie werden euch an die Gerichte ausliefern und in ihren Synagogen auspeitschen. (Mt 24,9; Mk 13,9; Lk 21,12; Joh 16,1)

18 Ihr werdet um meinetwillen vor Statthalter und Könige geführt werden, ihnen und den Heiden zum Zeugnis. 19 Wenn sie euch aber ausliefern, macht euch keine Sorgen, wie und was ihr reden sollt; denn es wird euch in jener Stunde eingegeben, was ihr sagen sollt. (Lk 12,11) 20 Nicht ihr werdet dann reden, sondern der Geist eures Vaters wird durch euch reden. 21 Der Bruder wird den Bruder dem Tod ausliefern und der Vater das Kind und Kinder werden sich gegen die Eltern auflehnen und sie in den Tod schicken. (Mt 10,35) 22 Und ihr werdet um meines Namens willen von allen gehasst werden; wer aber bis zum Ende standhaft bleibt, der wird gerettet. (Joh 15,18) 23 Wenn man euch in der einen Stadt verfolgt, so flieht in eine andere. Denn, amen, ich sage euch: Ihr werdet nicht zu Ende kommen mit den Städten Israels, bis der Menschensohn kommt. 24 Ein Jünger steht nicht über seinem Meister und ein Sklave nicht über seinem Herrn. (Lk 6,40; Joh 13,16; Joh 15,20) 25 Der Jünger muss sich damit begnügen, dass es ihm geht wie seinem Meister, und der Sklave, dass es ihm geht wie seinem Herrn. Wenn man schon den Herrn des Hauses Beelzebul nennt, dann erst recht seine Hausgenossen. (Mt 12,24; Mk 3,22; Lk 11,15) 26 Darum fürchtet euch nicht vor ihnen! Denn nichts ist verhüllt, was nicht enthüllt wird, und nichts ist verborgen, was nicht bekannt wird. (Mk 4,22; Lk 8,17; Lk 12,2) 27 Was ich euch im Dunkeln sage, davon redet im Licht, und was man euch ins Ohr flüstert, das verkündet auf den Dächern! 28 Fürchtet euch nicht vor denen, die den Leib töten, die Seele aber nicht töten können, sondern fürchtet euch eher vor dem, der Seele und Leib in der Hölle verderben kann! 29 Verkauft man nicht zwei Spatzen für einen Pfennig? Und doch fällt keiner von ihnen zur Erde ohne den Willen eures Vaters.^[2] 30 Bei euch aber sind sogar die Haare auf dem Kopf alle gezählt. 31 Fürchtet euch also nicht! Ihr seid mehr wert als viele Spatzen. 32 Jeder, der sich vor den Menschen zu mir bekennt, zu dem werde auch ich mich vor meinem Vater im Himmel bekennen. 33 Wer mich aber vor den Menschen verleugnet, den werde auch ich vor meinem Vater im Himmel verleugnen. (Mk 8,38; Lk 9,26) 34 Denkt nicht, ich sei gekommen, um Frieden auf die Erde zu bringen! Ich bin nicht gekommen, um Frieden zu bringen, sondern das Schwert. (Lk 12,51) 35 Denn ich bin gekommen, um den Sohn mit seinem Vater zu entzweien und die Tochter mit ihrer Mutter und die Schwiegertochter mit ihrer Schwiegermutter; (Mi 7,6) 36 und die Hausgenossen eines Menschen werden seine Feinde sein. 37 Wer Vater oder Mutter mehr liebt als mich, ist meiner nicht wert, und wer Sohn oder Tochter mehr liebt als mich, ist meiner nicht wert. (Lk 14,26) 38 Und wer nicht sein Kreuz auf sich nimmt und mir nachfolgt, ist meiner nicht wert. (Mt 16,24; Mk 8,34; Lk 9,23; Lk 14,27)

39 Wer das Leben findet, wird es verlieren; wer aber das Leben um meinetwillen verliert, wird es finden. (Lk 17,33; Joh 12,25)

Die Aufnahme der Jünger und der Abschluss der Rede

40 Wer euch aufnimmt, der nimmt mich auf, und wer mich aufnimmt, nimmt den auf, der mich gesandt hat. (Lk 10,16; Joh 13,20) 41 Wer einen Propheten aufnimmt, weil es ein Prophet ist, wird den Lohn eines Propheten erhalten. Wer einen Gerechten aufnimmt, weil es ein Gerechter ist, wird den Lohn eines Gerechten erhalten. 42 Und wer einem von diesen Kleinen auch nur einen Becher frisches Wasser zu trinken gibt, weil es ein Jünger ist - Amen, ich sage euch: Er wird gewiss nicht um seinen Lohn kommen. Jesus sends out the 12 disciples

1 Jesus called for his 12 disciples to come to him. He gave them authority to drive out evil spirits and to heal every illness and disease. 2 Here are the names of the 12 apostles. First there were Simon Peter and his brother Andrew. Then came James, son of Zebedee, and his brother John. 3 Next were Philip and Bartholomew, and also Thomas and Matthew the tax collector. Two more were James, son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus. 4 The last were Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot. Judas was the one who was later going to hand Jesus over to his enemies. 5 Jesus sent these 12 out with the following orders. ‘Do not go among the Gentiles,’ he said. ‘Do not enter any town of the Samaritans. 6 Instead, go to the people of Israel. They are like sheep that have become lost. 7 As you go, preach this message, “The kingdom of heaven has come near.” 8 Heal those who are ill. Bring those who are dead back to life. Make those who have skin diseases “clean” again. Drive out demons. You have received freely, so give freely. 9 ‘Do not get any gold, silver or copper to take with you in your belts. 10 Do not take a bag for the journey. Do not take extra clothes or sandals or walking sticks. A worker should be given what he needs. 11 When you enter a town or village, look for someone who is willing to welcome you. Stay at their house until you leave. 12 As you enter the home, greet those who live there. 13 If that home welcomes you, give it your blessing of peace. If it does not, don’t bless it. 14 Some people may not welcome you or listen to your words. If they don’t, leave that home or town, and shake the dust off your feet. 15 What I’m about to tell you is true. On judgment day it will be easier for Sodom and Gomorrah than for that town. 16 ‘I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. So be as wise as snakes and as harmless as doves. 17 Watch out! You will be handed over to the local courts. You will be whipped in the synagogues. 18 You will be brought to governors and kings because of me. You will be witnesses to them and to the Gentiles. 19 But when they arrest you, don’t worry about what you will say or how you will say it. At that time you will be given the right words to say. 20 It will not be you speaking. The Spirit of your Father will be speaking through you. 21 ‘Brothers will hand over brothers to be killed. Fathers will hand over their children. Children will rise up against their parents and have them put to death. 22 You will be hated by everyone because of me. But anyone who remains strong in the faith will be saved. 23 When people attack you in one place, escape to another. What I’m about to tell you is true. You will not finish going through the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes. 24 ‘The student is not better than the teacher. A slave is not better than his master. 25 It is enough for students to be like their teachers. And it is enough for slaves to be like their masters. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebul, what can the others who live there expect? 26 ‘So don’t be afraid of your enemies. Everything that is secret will be brought out into the open. Everything that is hidden will be uncovered. 27 What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight. What is whispered in your ear, shout from the rooftops. 28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but can’t kill the soul. Instead, be afraid of the one who can destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Aren’t two sparrows sold for only a penny? But not one of them falls to the ground outside your Father’s care. 30 He even counts every hair on your head! 31 So don’t be afraid. You are worth more than many sparrows. 32 ‘What if someone says in front of others that they know me? I will also say in front of my Father who is in heaven that I know them. 33 But what if someone says in front of others that they don’t know me? I will say in front of my Father who is in heaven that I don’t know them. 34 ‘Do not think that I came to bring peace to the earth. I didn’t come to bring peace. I came to bring a sword. 35 I have come to turn ‘ “sons against their fathers. Daughters will refuse to obey their mothers. Daughters-in-law will be against their mothers-in-law. 36 A man’s enemies will be the members of his own family.” (Mi 7,6) 37 ‘Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me. Anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38 Whoever does not pick up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me. 39 Whoever finds their life will lose it. Whoever loses their life because of me will find it. 40 ‘Anyone who welcomes you welcomes me. And anyone who welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. 41 Suppose someone welcomes a prophet as a prophet. They will receive a prophet’s reward. And suppose someone welcomes a godly person as a godly person. They will receive a godly person’s reward. 42 Suppose someone gives even a cup of cold water to a little one who follows me. What I’m about to tell you is true. That person will certainly be rewarded.’
