1 Hanna betete. Sie sagte: Mein Herz ist voll Freude über den HERRN, / erhöht ist meine Macht durch den HERRN. / Weit öffnet sich mein Mund gegen meine Feinde; / denn ich freue mich über deine Hilfe. (Ps 92,11; Lk 1,46) 2 Keiner ist heilig wie der HERR; / denn außer dir ist keiner; / keiner ist ein Fels wie unser Gott. (5Mo 4,35; Jes 45,5) 3 Redet nicht immer vermessen, / kein freches Wort komme aus eurem Mund; / denn der HERR ist ein wissender Gott / und bei ihm werden die Taten geprüft. (Ps 18,14; Ps 20,7) 11 Darauf kehrte Elkana in sein Haus nach Rama zurück, der Knabe aber stand von da an im Dienst des HERRN unter der Aufsicht des Priesters Eli.

Schuld des Hauses Eli

12 Die Söhne Elis waren nichtsnutzige Menschen. Sie kannten weder den HERRN 13 noch das Recht der Priester gegenüber dem Volk: Sooft jemand ein Schlachtopfer darbrachte und das Fleisch kochte, kam ein Diener des Priesters mit einer dreizinkigen Gabel in der Hand. (3Mo 7,31; 5Mo 18,3) 14 Er stach in den Kessel oder den Topf, in das Becken oder die Schüssel und alles, was die Gabel heraufholte, nahm der Priester für sich. So machten sie es bei allen Israeliten, die dorthin, nach Schilo, kamen. 15 Noch bevor man das Fett in Rauch aufgehen ließ, kam der Diener des Priesters und sagte zu dem Mann, der opferte: Gib mir Fleisch zum Braten für den Priester; er nimmt von dir aber kein gekochtes Fleisch an, sondern nur rohes. (3Mo 3,3) 16 Wenn ihm der Mann erwiderte: Zuerst muss man doch das Fett in Rauch aufgehen lassen, dann nimm dir, was dein Herz begehrt!, sagte ihm der Diener: Nein, gib es sofort her, sonst nehme ich es mit Gewalt. 17 Die Sünde der jungen Männer war sehr schwer in den Augen des HERRN; denn sie behandelten das Opfer des HERRN mit Verachtung. 18 Der junge Samuel aber versah den Dienst vor dem Angesicht des HERRN, bekleidet mit dem leinenen Efod. (2Mo 28,4; Sir 46,13) 19 Seine Mutter machte ihm immer wieder ein kleines Obergewand und brachte es ihm jedes Jahr mit, wenn sie zusammen mit ihrem Mann hinaufzog, um das jährliche Opfer darzubringen. 20 Dann segnete Eli Elkana und seine Frau und sagte: Der HERR gebe dir für den, den er von dir erbeten hat, andere Nachkommenschaft von dieser Frau. Darauf gingen sie wieder in ihren Heimatort zurück. 21 Der HERR aber nahm sich Hannas an; sie wurde schwanger und bekam noch drei Söhne und zwei Töchter. Der Knabe Samuel aber wuchs beim HERRN heran. (1Mo 21,1; Lk 2,40) 22 Eli war sehr alt geworden. Er hörte von allem, was seine Söhne allen Israeliten antaten, auch, dass sie mit den Frauen schliefen, die sich vor dem Eingang des Offenbarungszeltes aufhielten. (2Mo 38,8) 23 Er sagte zu ihnen: Warum tut ihr so etwas? Warum muss ich von allen Leuten solch schlimme Dinge über euch hören? 24 Nein, meine Söhne, was man, wie ich höre, im Volk des HERRN über euch verbreitet, ist nicht gut. 25 Wenn ein Mensch gegen einen Menschen sündigt, kann Gott Schiedsrichter sein. Wenn aber ein Mensch gegen den HERRN sündigt, wer kann dann für ihn eintreten? Aber sie hörten nicht auf die Stimme ihres Vaters; denn der HERR war entschlossen, sie umkommen zu lassen. 26 Der Knabe Samuel aber wuchs heran und gewann immer mehr an Gunst beim HERRN und auch bei den Menschen. (Lk 2,52) 27 Da kam ein Gottesmann zu Eli und sagte zu ihm: So spricht der HERR: Habe ich mich dem Haus deines Vaters nicht deutlich offenbart, als deine Vorfahren in Ägypten dem Haus des Pharao gehörten? (2Mo 3,1) 28 Ich habe sie aus allen Stämmen Israels für mich als Priester erwählt, damit sie zu meinem Altar hinaufgehen, das Räucheropfer darbringen und vor meinen Augen das Efod tragen. Auch habe ich dem Haus deines Vaters alle Feueropfer der Israeliten überlassen. (5Mo 18,1) 29 Warum missachtet ihr Schlachtopfer und Speiseopfer, die ich für die Wohnung angeordnet habe? Warum ehrst du deine Söhne mehr als mich und warum mästet ihr euch mit dem Besten aller Gaben meines Volkes Israel? 30 Darum - Spruch des HERRN, des Gottes Israels: Ich hatte fest zugesagt: Dein Haus und das Haus deines Vaters sollen für ewig vor meinem Angesicht ein- und ausgehen. Nun aber - Spruch des HERRN: Das sei fern von mir; denn nur die, die mich ehren, werde ich ehren, die aber, die mich verachten, geraten in Schande. 31 Es werden Tage kommen, da werde ich deinen Arm abhauen und die Macht deines Vaterhauses vernichten; in deinem Haus wird es keinen alten Mann mehr geben. (Ps 78,60) 32 Du wirst einen Gegner in der Wohnung erblicken bei all dem Guten, das der HERR für Israel tun wird. Nie mehr wird es in deinem Haus einen alten Mann geben. 33 Nur einen werde ich nicht wegreißen von meinem Altar, wenn ich deine Augen brechen und deine Seele verschmachten lasse; aber der ganze Nachwuchs deines Hauses wird im besten Mannesalter sterben. (1Sam 14,3; 1Sam 22,20) 34 Und das soll das Zeichen sein, das sich an deinen beiden Söhnen Hofni und Pinhas verwirklichen wird: Beide werden an einem Tag sterben. Ich will ihm ein Haus bauen, das Bestand hat, und er wird allezeit vor den Augen meines Gesalbten seinen Dienst versehen. (1Sam 4,11) 36 Wer dann von deinem Haus noch übrig ist, wird kommen und sich um ein Geldstück oder einen Laib Brot vor ihm niederwerfen und sagen: Nimm mich doch in eine der Priestergruppen auf, damit ich ein Stück Brot zu essen habe! 3 Lasst euer großes Rühmen und Trotzen, freches Reden gehe nicht aus eurem Munde; denn der HERR ist ein Gott, der es merkt, und von ihm werden Taten gewogen. 4 Der Bogen der Starken ist zerbrochen, und die Schwachen sind umgürtet mit Stärke. 5 Die da satt waren, müssen um Brot dienen, und die Hunger litten, hungert nicht mehr. Die Bosheit der Söhne Elis

12 Aber die Söhne Elis waren ruchlos. Sie fragten nicht nach dem HERRN 13 noch nach dem, was dem Priester zustand vom Volk. Wenn jemand ein Opfer bringen wollte, so kam des Priesters Diener, wenn das Fleisch kochte, und hatte eine Gabel mit drei Zacken in seiner Hand (3Mo 7,11; 3Mo 7,28; 5Mo 18,3) 14 und stieß in den Tiegel oder Kessel oder Pfanne oder Topf, und was er mit der Gabel hervorzog, das nahm der Priester für sich. So taten sie allen in Israel, die dorthin kamen nach Silo. 15 Desgleichen, ehe sie das Fett in Rauch aufgehen ließen, kam des Priesters Diener und sprach zu dem, der das Opfer brachte: Gib mir Fleisch für den Priester zum Braten, denn er will nicht gekochtes Fleisch von dir nehmen, sondern rohes. (3Mo 3,3) 16 Wenn dann jemand zu ihm sagte: Lass erst das Fett in Rauch aufgehen und nimm dann, was dein Herz begehrt, so sprach er zu ihm: Du sollst mir’s jetzt geben; wenn nicht, so nehme ich’s mit Gewalt. 17 So war die Sünde der jungen Männer sehr groß vor dem HERRN, denn sie verachteten das Opfer des HERRN. 18 Samuel aber war ein Diener vor dem HERRN; und der Knabe war umgürtet mit einem leinenen Priesterschurz. (2Mo 28,4) 19 Dazu machte ihm seine Mutter ein kleines Oberkleid und brachte es ihm Jahr für Jahr, wenn sie mit ihrem Mann hinaufging, um das jährliche Opfer darzubringen. 20 Und Eli segnete Elkana und seine Frau und sprach: Der HERR gebe dir Kinder von dieser Frau anstelle dessen, den sie vom HERRN erbeten hat. Und sie gingen zurück an ihren Ort. 21 Und der HERR suchte Hanna heim, dass sie schwanger ward, und sie gebar drei Söhne und zwei Töchter. Aber der Knabe Samuel wuchs heran bei dem HERRN. 22 Eli aber war sehr alt geworden. Und immer, wenn er von all dem hörte, was seine Söhne ganz Israel antaten und dass sie bei den Frauen schliefen, die vor dem Eingang der Stiftshütte dienten, (2Mo 38,8) 23 sprach er zu ihnen: Warum tut ihr solches? Denn ich höre diese bösen Dinge, die ihr tut, vom ganzen Volk. 24 Nicht doch, meine Söhne! Denn das Gerücht, von dem ich reden höre in des HERRN Volk, ist nicht gut. 25 Wenn jemand gegen einen Menschen sündigt, so kann es Gott entscheiden. Wenn aber jemand gegen den HERRN sündigt, wer soll es dann für ihn entscheiden? Aber sie gehorchten der Stimme ihres Vaters nicht; denn der HERR war willens, sie zu töten. 26 Aber der Knabe Samuel nahm immer mehr zu an Alter und Gunst bei dem HERRN und bei den Menschen. Das kommende Gericht über das Haus Eli

27 Es kam aber ein Mann Gottes zu Eli und sprach zu ihm: So spricht der HERR: Ich habe mich offenbart dem Hause deines Vaters, als sie noch in Ägypten dem Hause des Pharao gehörten, (1Sam 9,6; 1Kön 13,1; 2Kön 1,9) 28 und hab’s mir erwählt aus allen Stämmen Israels zum Priestertum, dass sie auf meinem Altar opfern und Räucherwerk verbrennen und den Priesterschurz vor mir tragen, und ich habe dem Hause deines Vaters alle Feueropfer Israels gegeben. (2Mo 30,7; 4Mo 18,8; 5Mo 18,1) 29 Warum tretet ihr denn mit Füßen meine Schlachtopfer und Speisopfer, die ich für meine Wohnung geboten habe? Und du ehrst deine Söhne mehr als mich, dass ihr euch mästet von dem Besten aller Opfer meines Volkes Israel. 30 Darum spricht der HERR, der Gott Israels: Ich hatte gesagt, dein Haus und deines Vaters Haus sollten immerdar vor mir einhergehen. Aber nun spricht der HERR: Das sei ferne von mir! Sondern wer mich ehrt, den will ich auch ehren; wer aber mich verachtet, der soll wieder verachtet werden. Aber der größte Teil deines Hauses soll sterben, wenn sie Männer geworden sind. 34 Und das soll dir ein Zeichen sein, das über deine beiden Söhne, Hofni und Pinhas, kommen wird; an einem Tag werden sie beide sterben. Eli’s Worthless Sons

12 Now the sons of Eli were worthless men. They did not know the Lord. (Ri 2,10; 1Sam 1,16) 13 The custom of the priests with the people was that when any man offered sacrifice, the priest’s servant would come, while the meat was boiling, with a three-pronged fork in his hand, 14 and he would thrust it into the pan or kettle or cauldron or pot. All that the fork brought up the priest would take for himself. Eli Rebukes His Sons

22 Now Eli was very old, and he kept hearing all that his sons were doing to all Israel, and how they lay with the women who were serving at the entrance to the tent of meeting. (2Mo 38,8) 23 And he said to them, “Why do you do such things? For I hear of your evil dealings from all these people. 24 No, my sons; it is no good report that I hear the people of the Lord spreading abroad. 25 If someone sins against a man, God will mediate for him, but if someone sins against the Lord, who can intercede for him?” But they would not listen to the voice of their father, for it was the will of the Lord to put them to death. (Jos 11,20) 26 Now the boy Samuel continued to grow both in stature and in favor with the Lord and also with man. (Lk 2,52)

The Lord Rejects Eli’s Household

27 And there came a man of God to Eli and said to him, “Thus says the Lord, ‘Did I indeed reveal myself to the house of your father when they were in Egypt subject to the house of Pharaoh?
