DIE VORBEREITUNG DES WIRKENS JESU

Das Auftreten des Täufers

1 Es war im fünfzehnten Jahr der Regierung des Kaisers Tiberius; Pontius Pilatus war Statthalter von Judäa, Herodes Tetrarch von Galiläa, sein Bruder Philippus Tetrarch von Ituräa und der Trachonitis, Lysanias Tetrarch von Abilene;^[1] (Mt 27,11) 2 Hohepriester waren Hannas und Kajaphas. Da erging in der Wüste das Wort Gottes an Johannes, den Sohn des Zacharias. 3 Und er zog in die Gegend am Jordan und verkündete dort überall die Taufe der Umkehr zur Vergebung der Sünden, (Mt 3,1; Mk 1,2; Joh 1,19; Apg 13,24)

4 wie im Buch der Reden des Propheten Jesaja geschrieben steht: Stimme eines Rufers in der Wüste: / Bereitet den Weg des Herrn! / Macht gerade seine Straßen! (Jes 40,3) 5 Jede Schlucht soll aufgefüllt / und jeder Berg und Hügel abgetragen werden. Was krumm ist, soll gerade, / was uneben ist, soll zum ebenen Weg werden. 6 Und alle Menschen werden das Heil Gottes schauen. 7 Da sagte er zu den Volksscharen, die hinauszogen, um sich von ihm taufen zu lassen: Ihr Schlangenbrut, wer hat euch denn gelehrt, dass ihr dem kommenden Zorngericht entrinnen könnt? 8 Bringt Früchte hervor, die eure Umkehr zeigen, und fangt nicht an, bei euch zu sagen: Wir haben Abraham zum Vater! Denn ich sage euch: Gott kann aus diesen Steinen dem Abraham Kinder erwecken. 9 Schon ist die Axt an die Wurzel der Bäume gelegt; jeder Baum, der keine gute Frucht hervorbringt, wird umgehauen und ins Feuer geworfen. (Mt 7,19) 10 Da fragten ihn die Scharen: Was sollen wir also tun? 11 Er antwortete ihnen: Wer zwei Gewänder hat, der gebe eines davon dem, der keines hat, und wer zu essen hat, der handle ebenso! 12 Es kamen auch Zöllner, um sich taufen zu lassen, und fragten ihn: Meister, was sollen wir tun? 13 Er sagte zu ihnen: Verlangt nicht mehr, als festgesetzt ist! 14 Auch Soldaten fragten ihn: Was sollen denn wir tun? Und er sagte zu ihnen: Misshandelt niemanden, erpresst niemanden, begnügt euch mit eurem Sold! 15 Das Volk war voll Erwartung und alle überlegten im Herzen, ob Johannes nicht vielleicht selbst der Christus sei. (Joh 1,24) 16 Doch Johannes gab ihnen allen zur Antwort: Ich taufe euch mit Wasser. Es kommt aber einer, der stärker ist als ich, und ich bin es nicht wert, ihm die Riemen der Sandalen zu lösen. Er wird euch mit dem Heiligen Geist und mit Feuer taufen. (Apg 13,25) 17 Schon hält er die Schaufel in der Hand, um seine Tenne zu reinigen und den Weizen in seine Scheune zu sammeln; die Spreu aber wird er in nie erlöschendem Feuer verbrennen. 18 Mit diesen und vielen anderen Worten ermahnte er das Volk und verkündete die frohe Botschaft. 19 Johannes tadelte auch den Tetrarchen Herodes wegen Herodias, der Frau seines Bruders, und wegen aller Schandtaten, die er verübt hatte. (Mt 14,3; Mk 6,17) 20 Herodes fügte zu allem noch dies hinzu, dass er Johannes ins Gefängnis werfen ließ.

Die Taufe Jesu

21 Es geschah aber, dass sich zusammen mit dem ganzen Volk auch Jesus taufen ließ. Und während er betete, öffnete sich der Himmel (Mt 3,13; Mk 1,9; Joh 1,29) 22 und der Heilige Geist kam sichtbar in Gestalt einer Taube auf ihn herab und eine Stimme aus dem Himmel sprach: Du bist mein geliebter Sohn, an dir habe ich Wohlgefallen gefunden. (1Mo 22,2; Ps 2,7; Jes 42,1)

23 Jesus war, als er zum ersten Mal öffentlich auftrat, etwa dreißig Jahre alt. Er galt als Sohn Josefs. Und er sprach zu ihnen: Tut niemandem Gewalt noch Unrecht und lasst euch genügen an eurem Sold! 15 Als aber das Volk voll Erwartung war und alle dachten in ihren Herzen, ob Johannes vielleicht der Christus wäre, (Joh 1,19) 16 antwortete Johannes und sprach zu allen: Ich taufe euch mit Wasser; es kommt aber der, der stärker ist als ich; ich bin nicht wert, dass ich ihm die Riemen seiner Schuhe löse; der wird euch mit dem Heiligen Geist und mit Feuer taufen. 17 In seiner Hand ist die Worfschaufel, und er wird die Spreu vom Weizen trennen und den Weizen in seine Scheune sammeln, die Spreu aber wird er mit unauslöschlichem Feuer verbrennen. 18 Und mit vielem andern mehr ermahnte er das Volk und predigte ihm. 19 Herodes aber, der Landesfürst, der von Johannes zurechtgewiesen wurde wegen Herodias, der Frau seines Bruders, und wegen all des Bösen, das er getan hatte, (Mt 14,3; Mk 6,17) 20 fügte zu dem allen noch dies hinzu: Er warf Johannes ins Gefängnis.

Jesu Taufe

21 Und es begab sich, als alles Volk sich taufen ließ und Jesus auch getauft worden war und betete, da tat sich der Himmel auf, (Mt 3,13; Mk 1,9) 22 und der Heilige Geist fuhr hernieder auf ihn in leiblicher Gestalt wie eine Taube, und eine Stimme kam aus dem Himmel: Du bist mein lieber Sohn, an dir habe ich Wohlgefallen. (Lk 9,35; Joh 1,32)

But one who is more powerful than I will come, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptise you with^[2] the Holy Spirit and fire. 17 His winnowing fork is in his hand to clear his threshing-floor and to gather the wheat into his barn, but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.’ 18 And with many other words John exhorted the people and proclaimed the good news to them. 19 But when John rebuked Herod the tetrarch because of his marriage to Herodias, his brother’s wife, and all the other evil things he had done, 20 Herod added this to them all: he locked John up in prison.

21 When all the people were being baptised, Jesus was baptised too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened 22 and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: ‘You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.’ 23 Now Jesus himself was about thirty years old when he began his ministry.
