1And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James, and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah.” (Mal 4:5)5He was still speaking when, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my beloved Son,[1] with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.” (Ex 24:15; Mt 3:17; Ac 3:22; 2Pe 1:17)6When the disciples heard this, they fell on their faces and were terrified. (Ge 17:3; Eze 1:28; 2Pe 1:18; Re 1:17)7But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Rise, and have no fear.” (Da 8:18; Da 10:10; Da 10:18; Mt 14:27)8And when they lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.9And as they were coming down the mountain, Jesus commanded them, “Tell no one the vision, until the Son of Man is raised from the dead.” (Mt 8:4; Mt 12:16; Mr 9:9)10And the disciples asked him, “Then why do the scribes say that first Elijah must come?” (Mal 4:5; Mt 11:14)11He answered, “Elijah does come, and he will restore all things. (Lu 1:16; Ac 1:6; Ac 3:21)12But I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but did to him whatever they pleased. So also the Son of Man will certainly suffer at their hands.” (Mt 14:3; Mt 14:10; Mt 16:21)13Then the disciples understood that he was speaking to them of John the Baptist. (Mt 16:12)
Jesus Heals a Boy with a Demon
14And when they came to the crowd, a man came up to him and, kneeling before him, (Mr 9:14; Lu 9:37)15said, “Lord, have mercy on my son, for he has seizures and he suffers terribly. For often he falls into the fire, and often into the water. (Mt 4:24)16And I brought him to your disciples, and they could not heal him.” (Mt 10:1; Mr 6:7; Lu 10:17)17And Jesus answered, “O faithless and twisted generation, how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you? Bring him here to me.” (Joh 14:9; Joh 20:27; Php 2:15)18And Jesus rebuked the demon,[2] and it[3] came out of him, and the boy was healed instantly.[4] (Zec 3:2; Mt 8:26; Mt 9:22; Mr 1:25; Lu 4:35; Lu 4:39; Jud 1:9)19Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?”20He said to them, “Because of your little faith. Jesus Again Foretells Death, Resurrection
22As they were gathering[6] in Galilee, Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands of men, (Mt 16:21; Mt 20:17; Mr 9:30; Lu 9:43)23and they will kill him, and he will be raised on the third day.” And they were greatly distressed. (Mr 8:31)
The Temple Tax
24When they came to Capernaum, the collectors of the two-drachma tax went up to Peter and said, “Does your teacher not pay the tax?” (Ex 30:13; Ex 38:26; Mr 9:33)25He said, “Yes.” And when he came into the house, Jesus spoke to him first, saying, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do kings of the earth take toll or tax? From their sons or from others?” (Mt 18:12; Mt 21:28; Mt 22:17; Mt 22:19; Mr 12:14; Ro 13:7)26And when he said, “From others,” Jesus said to him, “Then the sons are free.27However, not to give offense to them, go to the sea and cast a hook and take the first fish that comes up, and when you open its mouth you will find a shekel.[7] Take that and give it to them for me and for yourself.”
1Six jours après, Jésus prit avec lui Pierre, Jacques et son frère Jean, et il les conduisit à l'écart sur une haute montagne.2Il fut transfiguré devant eux; son visage resplendit comme le soleil et ses vêtements devinrent blancs comme la lumière.3Et voici que Moïse et Elie leur apparurent; ils s'entretenaient avec lui.4Pierre prit la parole et dit à Jésus: «Seigneur, il est bon que nous soyons ici. Si tu le veux, faisons ici trois abris: un pour toi, un pour Moïse et un pour Elie.»5Comme il parlait encore, une nuée lumineuse les couvrit. De la nuée une voix fit entendre ces paroles: «Celui-ci est mon Fils bien-aimé, qui a toute mon approbation: écoutez-le!»6Lorsqu'ils entendirent cette voix, les disciples tombèrent le visage contre terre et furent saisis d'une grande frayeur.7Mais Jésus s'approcha d'eux, les toucha et dit: «Levez-vous, n'ayez pas peur!»8Ils levèrent les yeux et ne virent plus que Jésus seul.9Comme ils descendaient de la montagne, Jésus leur donna cet ordre: «Ne parlez à personne de ce que vous avez vu jusqu'à ce que le Fils de l'homme soit ressuscité.»10Les disciples lui posèrent cette question: «Pourquoi donc les spécialistes de la loi disent-ils qu'Elie doit venir d'abord?»11Jésus leur répondit: «Il est vrai qu'Elie doit venir [d'abord] et rétablir toutes choses,12mais je vous le dis: Elie est déjà venu, ils ne l'ont pas reconnu et ils l'ont traité comme ils ont voulu. De même le Fils de l'homme souffrira de leur part.»13Les disciples comprirent alors qu'il leur parlait de Jean-Baptiste.
Guérison d'un épileptique
14Lorsqu'ils furent arrivés près de la foule, un homme vint se jeter à genoux devant Jésus et dit:15«Seigneur, aie pitié de mon fils qui est épileptique et qui souffre cruellement; il tombe souvent dans le feu ou dans l'eau.16Je l'ai amené à tes disciples et ils n'ont pas pu le guérir.»17«Génération incrédule et perverse, répondit Jésus, jusqu'à quand serai-je avec vous? Jusqu'à quand devrai-je vous supporter? Amenez-le-moi ici.»18Jésus menaça le démon, qui sortit de l'enfant, et celui-ci fut guéri à partir de ce moment-là.19Alors les disciples s'approchèrent de Jésus et lui dirent en privé: «Pourquoi n'avons-nous pas pu chasser ce démon?»20«C'est parce que vous manquez de foi, leur dit Jésus. Je vous le dis en vérité, si vous aviez de la foi comme un grain de moutarde, vous diriez à cette montagne: ‘Déplace-toi d'ici jusque-là’, et elle se déplacerait; rien ne vous serait impossible.21[Cependant, cette sorte de démon ne sort que par la prière et par le jeûne.]»22Pendant qu'ils parcouraient la Galilée, Jésus leur dit: «Le Fils de l'homme doit être livré entre les mains des hommes;23ils le feront mourir et le troisième jour il ressuscitera.» Ils furent profondément attristés.24Lorsqu'ils arrivèrent à Capernaüm, ceux qui percevaient l'impôt annuel s'approchèrent de Pierre et lui dirent: «Votre maître ne paie-t-il pas l'impôt annuel?»25«Si», dit-il. Quand il fut entré dans la maison, Jésus prit les devants et dit: «Qu'en penses-tu, Simon? Les rois de la terre, de qui perçoivent-ils des taxes ou des impôts? De leurs fils ou des étrangers?»26Il lui dit: «Des étrangers.» Jésus lui répondit: «Les fils en sont donc exemptés.27Cependant, pour ne pas les choquer, va au lac, jette l'hameçon et tire le premier poisson qui viendra; ouvre-lui la bouche et tu trouveras de l'argent[1]. Prends-le et donne-le-leur pour moi et pour toi.»
