Jeremiah 49

1 Concerning the Ammonites. Thus says the Lord: “Has Israel no sons? Has he no heir? Why then has Milcom[1] dispossessed Gad, and his people settled in its cities? (1Ki 11:5; 1Ki 11:33; 2Ki 23:13; Jer 25:21; Eze 21:28; Eze 25:2; Am 1:13) 2 Therefore, behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will cause the battle cry to be heard against Rabbah of the Ammonites; it shall become a desolate mound, and its villages shall be burned with fire; then Israel shall dispossess those who dispossessed him, says the Lord. (Jer 4:19; Jer 30:18; Eze 21:20; Eze 25:5; Am 1:14) 3 “Wail, O Heshbon, for Ai is laid waste! Cry out, O daughters of Rabbah! Put on sackcloth, lament, and run to and fro among the hedges! For Milcom shall go into exile, with his priests and his officials. (1Ki 11:5; 1Ki 11:33; 2Ki 23:13; Jer 4:8; Jer 48:2; Jer 48:7; Jer 48:37; Jer 49:2) 4 Why do you boast of your valleys,[2] O faithless daughter, who trusted in her treasures, saying, ‘Who will come against me?’ (Jer 3:14; Jer 48:7) 5 Behold, I will bring terror upon you, declares the Lord God of hosts, from all who are around you, and you shall be driven out, every man straight before him, with none to gather the fugitives. (Jer 48:43) 6 “But afterward I will restore the fortunes of the Ammonites, declares the Lord.” (Jer 48:47; Jer 49:39) 7 Concerning Edom. Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Is wisdom no more in Teman? Has counsel perished from the prudent? Has their wisdom vanished? (Isa 19:11; Isa 34:5; Jer 25:21; Jer 49:20; Eze 25:12; Am 1:11; Ob 1:1; Ob 1:9; Mal 1:2) 8 Flee, turn back, dwell in the depths, O inhabitants of Dedan! For I will bring the calamity of Esau upon him, the time when I punish him. (Ge 25:3; Jer 25:23; Jer 46:21; Jer 49:30; Jer 50:27; Jer 50:31) 9 If grape gatherers came to you, would they not leave gleanings? If thieves came by night, would they not destroy only enough for themselves? (Jud 8:2; Ob 1:5) 10 But I have stripped Esau bare; I have uncovered his hiding places, and he is not able to conceal himself. His children are destroyed, and his brothers, and his neighbors; and he is no more. (Isa 17:14; Jer 31:15; Jer 49:9; Mal 1:3) 11 Leave your fatherless children; I will keep them alive; and let your widows trust in me.” (Ps 10:14; Ps 10:18; Ps 68:5) 12 For thus says the Lord: “If those who did not deserve to drink the cup must drink it, will you go unpunished? You shall not go unpunished, but you must drink. (Jer 25:28; Jer 25:29; Ob 1:16) 13 For I have sworn by myself, declares the Lord, that Bozrah shall become a horror, a taunt, a waste, and a curse, and all her cities shall be perpetual wastes.” (Jer 22:5; Jer 24:9; Jer 48:24; Jer 49:22) 14 I have heard a message from the Lord, and an envoy has been sent among the nations: “Gather yourselves together and come against her, and rise up for battle! (Isa 13:4; Ob 1:1) 15 For behold, I will make you small among the nations, despised among mankind. 16 The horror you inspire has deceived you, and the pride of your heart, you who live in the clefts of the rock,[3] who hold the height of the hill. Though you make your nest as high as the eagle’s, I will bring you down from there, declares the Lord. (Jer 48:28) 17 “Edom shall become a horror. Everyone who passes by it will be horrified and will hiss because of all its disasters. (Jer 50:13; Eze 35:3; Eze 35:7; Eze 35:9) 18 As when Sodom and Gomorrah and their neighboring cities were overthrown, says the Lord, no man shall dwell there, no man shall sojourn in her. (De 29:23; Isa 13:19; Jer 49:33) 19 Behold, like a lion coming up from the jungle of the Jordan against a perennial pasture, I will suddenly make him[4] run away from her. And I will appoint over her whomever I choose. For who is like me? Who will summon me? What shepherd can stand before me? (Job 9:19; Jer 4:7; Jer 10:6; Jer 12:5; Jer 30:21; Jer 50:44) 20 Therefore hear the plan that the Lord has made against Edom and the purposes that he has formed against the inhabitants of Teman: Even the little ones of the flock shall be dragged away. Surely their fold shall be appalled at their fate. (Jer 49:7; Jer 50:45; Eze 35:3; Eze 35:7; Eze 35:9) 21 At the sound of their fall the earth shall tremble; the sound of their cry shall be heard at the Red Sea. (Jer 8:16; Jer 50:46; Eze 26:15) 22 Behold, one shall mount up and fly swiftly like an eagle and spread his wings against Bozrah, and the heart of the warriors of Edom shall be in that day like the heart of a woman in her birth pains.” (Jer 6:24; Jer 48:40; Jer 49:13; Jer 49:24) 23 Concerning Damascus: “Hamath and Arpad are confounded, for they have heard bad news; they melt in fear, they are troubled like the sea that cannot be quiet. (1Ki 8:65; 2Ki 18:34; Isa 17:1; Am 1:3; Zec 9:2; Zec 9:4) 24 Damascus has become feeble, she turned to flee, and panic seized her; anguish and sorrows have taken hold of her, as of a woman in labor. (Jer 46:5; Jer 49:22; Jer 49:23) 25 How is the famous city not forsaken, the city of my joy? (Jer 33:9) 26 Therefore her young men shall fall in her squares, and all her soldiers shall be destroyed in that day, declares the Lord of hosts. (Jer 50:30) 27 And I will kindle a fire in the wall of Damascus, and it shall devour the strongholds of Ben-hadad.” (1Ki 15:18; 1Ki 20:1; 2Ki 6:24; 2Ki 8:7; 2Ki 13:3; Jer 17:27; Jer 49:23) 28 Concerning Kedar and the kingdoms of Hazor that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon struck down. Thus says the Lord: “Rise up, advance against Kedar! Destroy the people of the east! (Jud 6:3; Isa 11:14; Isa 21:16; Isa 60:7; Jer 49:14; Jer 49:31; Eze 25:4; Eze 25:10) 29 Their tents and their flocks shall be taken, their curtains and all their goods; their camels shall be led away from them, and men shall cry to them: ‘Terror on every side!’ (Ps 120:5; So 1:5; Jer 6:25) 30 Flee, wander far away, dwell in the depths, O inhabitants of Hazor! declares the Lord. For Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has made a plan against you and formed a purpose against you. (Jer 49:8) 31 “Rise up, advance against a nation at ease, that dwells securely, declares the Lord, that has no gates or bars, that dwells alone. (Job 16:12; Jer 49:28; Eze 38:8; Eze 38:11) 32 Their camels shall become plunder, their herds of livestock a spoil. I will scatter to every wind those who cut the corners of their hair, and I will bring their calamity from every side of them, declares the Lord. (Jer 9:26; Jer 49:36; Eze 38:12) 33 Hazor shall become a haunt of jackals, an everlasting waste; no man shall dwell there; no man shall sojourn in her.” (Jer 9:11; Jer 49:18) 34 The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning Elam, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah. (Ge 14:1; 2Ki 24:17; Isa 11:11; Isa 21:2; Jer 25:25; Eze 32:24; Da 8:2) 35 Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Behold, I will break the bow of Elam, the mainstay of their might. (Isa 22:6; Jer 49:34) 36 And I will bring upon Elam the four winds from the four quarters of heaven. And I will scatter them to all those winds, and there shall be no nation to which those driven out of Elam shall not come. (Jer 49:34) 37 I will terrify Elam before their enemies and before those who seek their life. I will bring disaster upon them, my fierce anger, declares the Lord. I will send the sword after them, until I have consumed them, (Jer 1:17; Jer 9:16; Jer 12:13; Jer 49:34) 38 and I will set my throne in Elam and destroy their king and officials, declares the Lord. (Jer 49:34) 39 “But in the latter days I will restore the fortunes of Elam, declares the Lord.” (Jer 48:47; Jer 49:34)

1 خداوند دربارهٔ عمونیها چنين میفرمايد: «ای شما كه بت ملكوم را میپرستيد، چرا شهرهای قبيلهٔ جاد را تصرف كردهايد و در آنها ساكن شدهايد؟ مگر تعداد بنیاسرائيل برای پر كردن اين شهرها كافی نمیباشد؟ آيا كسی نيست كه از اين شهرها دفاع كند؟ 2 بنابراين روزی خواهد رسيد كه شما را برای اين كار، مجازات خواهم كرد و پايتخت شما، ربه را ويران خواهم نمود. ربه با خاک يكسان خواهد شد و آبادیهای اطرافش در آتش خواهد سوخت. آنگاه بنیاسرائيل خواهند آمد و زمينهای خود را دوباره تصاحب خواهند نمود. همانگونه كه ديگران را بیخانمان كرديد، شما را بیخانمان خواهند ساخت. 3 «ای مردم حشبون ناله كنيد، زيرا عای ويران شده است! ای دختران ربه گريه كنيد و لباس عزا بپوشيد! ماتم بگيريد و پریشانحال به اين سو و آن سو بدويد؛ چون بت شما ملكوم با تمام كاهنان و بزرگانش به تبعيد برده خواهد شد. 4 ای قوم ناسپاس، شما به درههای حاصلخيزتان میباليد، ولی همگی آنها بزودی نابود خواهند شد. شما به قدرت خود تكيه میكنيد و گمان میبريد هرگز كسی جرأت نخواهد كرد به شما حمله كند. 5 ولی من، خداوند قادر متعال، شما را از هر سو به وحشت خواهم انداخت، زيرا قومهای همسايه، شما را از سرزمينتان بيرون خواهند نمود و كسی نخواهد بود كه فراريان را دوباره جمع كند. 6 ولی در آينده بار ديگر كاميابی را به عمونیها باز خواهم گرداند.» 7 خداوند قادر متعال به ادومیها چنين میفرمايد: «آن مردان حكيم و دانای شما كجا هستند؟ آيا در تمام شهر تيمان يكی نيز باقی نمانده است؟ 8 ای مردم ددان، به دورترين نقاط صحرا فرار كنيد، چون وقتی ادوم را مجازات كنم، شما را هم مجازات خواهم نمود! 9-10 آنانی كه انگور میچينند مقدار كمی هم برای فقرا باقی میگذارند؛ حتی دزدها نيز همه چيز را نمیبرند! ولی من سرزمين عيسو را تماماً غارت خواهم كرد؛ مخفيگاههايش را نيز آشكار خواهم ساخت تا جايی برای پنهان شدن باقی نماند. فرزندان، برادران و همسايگان او همه نابود خواهند شد؛ خودش نيز از بين خواهد رفت. 11 اما من از كودكان يتيم نگهداری خواهم كرد و چشم اميد بيوههايتان به من خواهد بود. 12 «اگر شخص بیگناه، رنج و زحمت میبيند، چقدر بيشتر تو! زيرا تو بیسزا نخواهی ماند بلكه يقيناً جام مجازات را تماماً خواهی نوشيد! 13 من به نام خود قسم خوردهام كه شهر بصره با خاک يكسان شده، باعث ترس خواهد گرديد و همچنين مورد نفرين و تمسخر قرار خواهد گرفت و دهات اطرافش برای هميشه خرابه باقی خواهد ماند.» 14 اين خبر از جانب خداوند به من رسيد: «سفيری نزد قومها خواهم فرستاد تا از آنها دعوت كند كه عليه ادوم متحد شوند و آن را از بين ببرند. 15 من ادوم را در ميان قومها و مردم، كوچک و خوار خواهم ساخت! 16 ای ادوم، كه در کوهها و در شكاف صخرهها ساكن هستی، شهرت و غرور، فريبت داده است. اگرچه آشيانهات مثل عقاب بر قله کوهها باشد، تو را از آنجا به زير خواهم كشيد.» 17 خداوند میفرمايد: «سرنوشت ادوم وحشتناک است! هر كه از آنجا عبور كند، از ديدنش مبهوت شده، به وحشت خواهد افتاد. 18 شهرها و آبادیهای اطراف آن، مثل شهرهای سدوم و عموره خاموش و بیصدا خواهند شد؛ ديگر كسی در آنجا زندگی نخواهد كرد. 19 همانگونه كه شيری از جنگلهای اردن بيرون میآيد و ناگهان به گوسفندان در حال چريدن هجوم میآورد، من نيز ناگهان بر ادومیها هجوم آورده، ايشان را از سرزمينشان بيرون خواهم راند. آنگاه شخص مورد نظر خود را تعيين خواهم نمود تا برايشان حكومت كند. زيرا كيست كه مثل من باشد و كيست كه بتواند از من بازخواست كند؟ كدام رهبر است كه با من مخالفت نمايد؟ 20 بنابراين ارادهٔ من در مورد مردم ادوم و ساكنان تيمان اينست كه دشمن، آنها و حتی كودكانشان را به زور ببرد و همه چيزشان را نابود كند. 21 «از صدای شكست ادوم، زمين خواهد لرزيد. فرياد مردم آن، تا دريای سرخ شنيده خواهد شد. 22 دشمن مانند عقابی با بالهای گشوده بر شهر بصره پرواز كرده، بر آن فرود خواهد آمد. در آن روز، جنگاوران ادوم مانند زنی كه در حال زاييدن است، هراسان و پريشان خواهند شد.» 23 خداوند دربارهٔ دمشق چنين میگويد: «مردم شهرهای حمات و ارفاد وحشت كردهاند، چون خبر نابودی خود را شنيدهاند. دلشان مثل دريای خروشان و طوفانی، آشفته است و آرام نمیگيرد. 24 مردم دمشق همه ضعف كرده، فرار میكنند؛ همچون زنی كه میزايد، همه هراسان و مضطربند. 25 چگونه اين شهر پرآوازه و پرنشاط، متروک شده است! 26 در آن روز، اجساد جوانانش در كوچهها خواهند افتاد و تمام سربازانش از بين خواهند رفت. 27 من ديوارهای دمشق را به آتش خواهم كشيد و قصرهای بنهدد پادشاه را خواهم سوزاند.» 28 اين پيشگويی دربارهٔ طايفهٔ قيدار[1] و مردم نواحی حاصور است كه به دست نبوكدنصر، پادشاه بابل مغلوب شدند. خداوند میفرمايد: «بر مردم قيدار هجوم بياوريد و اين ساكنين مشرق زمين را از بين ببريد. 29 گله و رمه و خيمههای ايشان و هر چه را در آنهاست بگيريد و تمام شترهايشان را ببريد. «مردم از هر طرف با ترس و وحشت فرياد برمیآورند و میگويند: ”ما محاصره شدهايم و از بين خواهيم رفت!“ 30 «فرار كنيد! هر چه زودتر بگريزيد. ای اهالی حاصور[2] به بيابانها پناه ببريد، زيرا نبوكدنصر، پادشاه بابل بر ضد شما توطئه چيده و برای نابودی شما آماده میشود.» 31 خداوند به نبوكدنصر پادشاه، فرموده است: «برو و به آن قبايل چادرنشين ثروتمند حمله كن كه تصور میكنند در رفاه و امنيت هستند و به خود میبالند كه مستقل میباشند؛ شهرهای ايشان نه ديواری دارد و نه دروازهای. 32 شترها و حيواناتشان همه از آن تو خواهد شد. من اين مردم را كه گوشههای موی خود را میتراشند، به هر طرف پراكنده خواهم ساخت و از هر سو برايشان بلا خواهم فرستاد.» 33 خداوند میفرمايد كه حاصور مسكن جانوران صحرا خواهد شد و تا ابد ويران خواهد ماند و ديگر كسی هرگز در آن زندگی نخواهد كرد. 34-35 در آغاز سلطنت صدقيا، پادشاه يهودا، خداوند قادر متعال پيامی بر ضد عيلام به من داد و فرمود: «من سپاه عيلام را در هم خواهم كوبيد. 36 مردم عيلام را به هر سو پراكنده خواهم ساخت طوری كه هيچ سرزمينی نباشد كه آوارگان عيلام در آن يافت نشوند. 37 من با خشم شديد خود، عيلام را دچار بلا و مصيبت خواهم كرد و ايشان را به دست دشمنانشان خواهم سپرد تا به کلی نابودشان كنند. 38 من پادشاه و بزرگان عيلام را از بين خواهم برد و تخت سلطنت خود را در آنجا برقرار خواهم نمود. 39 ولی در آينده، عيلام را دوباره كامياب خواهم ساخت.»
