1“Ah, stubborn children,” declares the Lord, “who carry out a plan, but not mine, and who make an alliance,[1] but not of my Spirit, that they may add sin to sin; (Isa 1:2; Isa 1:4; Isa 25:7; Isa 29:15)2who set out to go down to Egypt, without asking for my direction, to take refuge in the protection of Pharaoh and to seek shelter in the shadow of Egypt! (Isa 31:1; Isa 36:6)3Therefore shall the protection of Pharaoh turn to your shame, and the shelter in the shadow of Egypt to your humiliation. (Isa 20:5; Isa 30:7)4For though his officials are at Zoan and his envoys reach Hanes, (Isa 19:11; Jer 43:7; Eze 17:15)5everyone comes to shame through a people that cannot profit them, that brings neither help nor profit, but shame and disgrace.” (Isa 30:7; Jer 2:36)6An oracle on the beasts of the Negeb. Through a land of trouble and anguish, from where come the lioness and the lion, the adder and the flying fiery serpent, they carry their riches on the backs of donkeys, and their treasures on the humps of camels, to a people that cannot profit them. (De 8:15; Ps 68:30; Isa 13:1; Isa 51:9; Ac 8:26)7Egypt’s help is worthless and empty; therefore I have called her “Rahab who sits still.” (Isa 36:6; Isa 51:9)
A Rebellious People
8And now, go, write it before them on a tablet and inscribe it in a book, that it may be for the time to come as a witness forever.[2] (Hab 2:2)9For they are a rebellious people, lying children, children unwilling to hear the instruction of the Lord; (Isa 30:1)10who say to the seers, “Do not see,” and to the prophets, “Do not prophesy to us what is right; speak to us smooth things, prophesy illusions, (1Sa 9:9; 1Ki 22:13; Jer 28:1; Eze 13:8; Am 2:12; Am 7:12)11leave the way, turn aside from the path, let us hear no more about the Holy One of Israel.”12Therefore thus says the Holy One of Israel, “Because you despise this word and trust in oppression and perverseness and rely on them, (Isa 5:8; Isa 5:20)13therefore this iniquity shall be to you like a breach in a high wall, bulging out and about to collapse, whose breaking comes suddenly, in an instant; (Ps 62:3)14and its breaking is like that of a potter’s vessel that is smashed so ruthlessly that among its fragments not a shard is found with which to take fire from the hearth, or to dip up water out of the cistern.” (Ps 2:9)15For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, “In returning[3] and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.” But you were unwilling, (Ex 14:14; Ho 14:1)16and you said, “No! We will flee upon horses”; therefore you shall flee away; and, “We will ride upon swift steeds”; therefore your pursuers shall be swift. (Isa 31:1; Isa 31:3; Ho 14:3)17A thousand shall flee at the threat of one; at the threat of five you shall flee, till you are left like a flagstaff on the top of a mountain, like a signal on a hill. (Le 26:8; De 32:30)
The Lord Will Be Gracious
18Therefore the Lord waits to be gracious to you, and therefore he exalts himself to show mercy to you. For the Lord is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for him. (Ps 2:12; Ps 34:8; Pr 16:20; Isa 5:16; Jer 17:7; Hab 2:3)19For a people shall dwell in Zion, in Jerusalem; you shall weep no more. He will surely be gracious to you at the sound of your cry. As soon as he hears it, he answers you. (Isa 14:32)20And though the Lord give you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, yet your Teacher will not hide himself anymore, but your eyes shall see your Teacher. (1Ki 22:27; Ps 127:2; Isa 3:1; Eze 4:10)21And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left. (Isa 35:8; Jer 31:33; Ac 9:2)22Then you will defile your carved idols overlaid with silver and your gold-plated metal images. You will scatter them as unclean things. You will say to them, “Be gone!” (Isa 2:20; Isa 31:7; Ho 14:8)23And he will give rain for the seed with which you sow the ground, and bread, the produce of the ground, which will be rich and plenteous. In that day your livestock will graze in large pastures, (Ps 65:13; Ps 144:13; Isa 32:20; Jer 5:24)24and the oxen and the donkeys that work the ground will eat seasoned fodder, which has been winnowed with shovel and fork. (Ge 45:6)25And on every lofty mountain and every high hill there will be brooks running with water, in the day of the great slaughter, when the towers fall. (Ps 107:35; Isa 2:15; Isa 32:19; Isa 33:21; Joe 3:18)26Moreover, the light of the moon will be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun will be sevenfold, as the light of seven days, in the day when the Lord binds up the brokenness of his people, and heals the wounds inflicted by his blow. (Isa 1:5; Isa 60:19; Ho 6:1)27Behold, the name of the Lord comes from afar, burning with his anger, and in thick rising smoke;[4] his lips are full of fury, and his tongue is like a devouring fire;28his breath is like an overflowing stream that reaches up to the neck; to sift the nations with the sieve of destruction, and to place on the jaws of the peoples a bridle that leads astray. (Isa 8:8; Isa 11:4; Isa 37:29; Na 1:8; 2Th 2:8)29You shall have a song as in the night when a holy feast is kept, and gladness of heart, as when one sets out to the sound of the flute to go to the mountain of the Lord, to the Rock of Israel. (De 32:18; 1Sa 10:5; 1Ki 1:40; Isa 2:3; Isa 26:4; Isa 44:8)30And the Lord will cause his majestic voice to be heard and the descending blow of his arm to be seen, in furious anger and a flame of devouring fire, with a cloudburst and storm and hailstones. (Jos 10:11; Ps 18:13; Isa 28:2; Isa 29:6)31The Assyrians will be terror-stricken at the voice of the Lord, when he strikes with his rod. (Isa 9:4; Mic 6:9)32And every stroke of the appointed staff that the Lord lays on them will be to the sound of tambourines and lyres. Battling with brandished arm, he will fight with them. (Ex 15:1; Isa 2:19; Isa 11:15; Isa 19:16)33For a burning place[5] has long been prepared; indeed, for the king it is made ready, its pyre made deep and wide, with fire and wood in abundance; the breath of the Lord, like a stream of sulfur, kindles it. (2Ki 23:10; Ps 18:8; Jer 7:31; Eze 20:48; Eze 24:9)
1خداوند میفرمايد: «وای بر فرزندان ياغی من! آنان با هر كسی مشورت میكنند جز با من. برخلاف ميل من پيمانها میبندند و بدين ترتيب بر گناهان خود میافزايند.2آنان بیآنكه با من مشورت كنند به مصر میروند تا از فرعون كمک بگيرند، زيرا بر قدرت او اميد بستهاند.3ولی اميد بستن بر قدرت پادشاه مصر جز نوميدی و رسوايی سودی نخواهد داشت.4هر چند تسلط فرعون تا شهرهای صوعن و حانيس میرسد،5اما او هيچ كمكی به مردم يهودا نخواهد كرد و سودی به ايشان نخواهد رسانيد. ايشان از اينكه بر مصريان اعتماد كردهاند پشيمان خواهند شد.6«ببينيد چگونه گنجهايشان را بار الاغها و شتران كرده، به طرف مصر در حركتند! ايشان از ميان بيابانهای هولناک و خطرناک كه پر از شيرهای درنده و مارهای سمی است میگذرند تا نزد قومی برسند كه هيچ كمكی به ايشان نخواهد كرد.7كمک مصر بيهوده و بیفايده است؛ به همين دليل است كه مصر را اژدهای بیخاصيت لقب دادهام.»8خداوند به من گفت كه تمام اينها را در طوماری بنويسم و ثبت كنم تا برای آيندگان سندی ابدی باشد از ياغيگری اين قوم.9زيرا قوم اسرائيل قومی ياغی هستند و نمیخواهند از قوانين خداوند اطاعت كنند.10آنها به انبيا میگويند: «برای ما نبوت نكنيد و حقيقت را نگوييد. سخنان دلپذير به ما بگوييد و رؤياهای شيرين برای ما تعريف كنيد.11نمیخواهيم دربارهٔ خدای قدوس اسرائيل چيزی بشنويم. پس راه و رسم او را به ما تعليم ندهيد.»12اما پاسخ خدای قدوس اسرائيل اين است: «شما به پيام من اعتنا نمیكنيد، بلكه به ظلم و دروغ تكيه میكنيد.13پس بدانيد كه اين گناهتان باعث نابودی شما خواهد شد. شما مانند ديوار بلندی هستيد كه در آن شكاف ايجاد شده و هر لحظه ممكن است فرو ريزد. اين ديوار ناگهان فرو خواهد ريخت و در هم خواهد شكست،14و شكستگی آن مانند شكستگی كوزهای خواهد بود كه ناگهان از دست كوزهگر میافتد و چنان میشكند و خرد میشود كه نمیتوان از تكههای آن حتی برای گرفتن آتش از آتشدان و يا برداشتن آب از حوض استفاده كرد.»15خداوند، خدای قدوس اسرائيل چنين میفرمايد: «به سوی من بازگشت كنيد و با خيالی آسوده به من اعتماد كنيد، تا نجات يابيد و قدرت كسب كنيد.» اما شما اين كار را نمیكنيد،16بلكه در اين فكر هستيد كه بر اسبان تيزرو سوار شده، از چنگ دشمن فرار كنيد. البته شما به اجبار فرار خواهيد كرد اما اسبان تعقيبكنندگان تيزروتر از اسبان شما خواهند بود.17يک نفر از آنان هزار نفر از شما را فراری خواهد داد و پنج نفر از آنان همهٔ شما را تار و مار خواهند كرد به طوری كه از تمام لشكر شما جز يک پرچم بر نوک تپه، چيزی باقی نماند.18با اين حال، خداوند هنوز منتظر است تا به سوی او بازگشت نماييد. او میخواهد بر شما رحم كند، چون خدای با انصافی است. خوشا به حال كسانی كه به او اعتماد میكنند.19ای قوم اسرائيل كه در اورشليم زندگی میكنيد، شما ديگر گريه نخواهيد كرد، زيرا خداوند دعای شما را خواهد شنيد و به ياری شما خواهد آمد.20خداوند شما را از سختيها و مشكلات عبور خواهد داد، اما او خودش با شما خواهد بود و شما را تعليم خواهد داد و خود را از شما پنهان نخواهد كرد.21هرگاه به طرف راست يا چپ برويد، از پشت سر خود صدای او را خواهيد شنيد كه میگويد: «راه اين است، از اين راه برويد.»22همهٔ بتهای خود را كه با روكش نقره و طلا پوشيده شدهاند مانند اشیا كثيف بيرون خواهيد ريخت و از خود دور خواهيد كرد.23آنگاه خدا به هنگام كشت به شما باران خواهد بخشيد تا محصول پر بار و فراوان داشته باشيد. رمههايتان در چراگاههای سرسبز خواهند چريد24و الاغها و گاوهايتان كه زمين را شخم میزنند از بهترين علوفه تغذيه خواهند كرد.25در آن روز، برجهای دشمنانتان فرو خواهد ريخت و خودشان نيز كشته خواهند شد، اما برای شما از هر كوه و تپهای چشمهها و جويهای آب جاری خواهد گشت.26ماه مثل آفتاب روشنايی خواهد داد و آفتاب هفت برابر روشنتر از هميشه خواهد تابيد. همهٔ اينها هنگامی روی خواهد داد كه خداوند قوم خود را كه مجروح كرده، شفا دهد و زخمهايشان را ببندد!
مجازات آشور
27اينک خداوند از جای دور میآيد! خشم او شعلهور است و دود غليظی او را احاطه كرده است. او سخن میگويد و كلماتش مثل آتش میسوزاند.28نفس دهان او مانند سيل خروشانی است كه هر چه سر راهش باشد با خود میبرد. او قومها را غربال كرده، از بين خواهد برد و به مقاصد شوم آنها خاتمه خواهد داد.29اما شما ای قوم خدا با شادی سرود خواهيد خواند، درست مانند وقتی كه در جشنهای مقدس میخوانيد، و شادمان خواهيد شد درست همانند كسانی كه روانه میشوند تا با آهنگ نی به سوی خانهٔ خداوند كه پناهگاه اسرائيل است پيش بروند.30خداوند صدای پرجلال خود را به گوش مردم خواهد رساند و مردم قدرت و شدت غضب او را در شعلههای سوزان و طوفان و سيل و تگرگ مشاهده خواهند كرد.31با شنيده شدن صدای خداوند نيروی آشور ضربه خورده، در هم خواهد شكست.32همزمان با ضرباتی كه خداوند در جنگ با آشوریها بر آنان وارد میآورد قوم خدا با ساز و آواز به شادی خواهند پرداخت!33از مدتها پيش محلی عميق و وسيع برای سوزاندن مولک، خدای آشور آماده شده است. در آنجا هيزم فراوان روی هم انباشته شده و نفس خداوند همچون آتش آتشفشان بر آن دميده، آن را به آتش خواهد كشيد.
