And David was the father of Solomon by the wife of Uriah, (1Sa 16:1; 1Sa 17:12; 2Sa 12:10; 2Sa 12:24)7and Solomon the father of Rehoboam, and Rehoboam the father of Abijah, and Abijah the father of Asaph,[2] (1Ch 3:10)8and Asaph the father of Jehoshaphat, and Jehoshaphat the father of Joram, and Joram the father of Uzziah, (2Ki 15:1; 1Ch 3:11)9and Uzziah the father of Jotham, and Jotham the father of Ahaz, and Ahaz the father of Hezekiah,10and Hezekiah the father of Manasseh, and Manasseh the father of Amos,[3] and Amos the father of Josiah,11and Josiah the father of Jechoniah and his brothers, at the time of the deportation to Babylon. (1Ch 3:15; Es 2:6; Jer 24:1; Jer 27:20)12And after the deportation to Babylon: Jechoniah was the father of Shealtiel,[4] and Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel, (1Ch 3:17; Ezr 3:2; Lu 3:27)13and Zerubbabel the father of Abiud, and Abiud the father of Eliakim, and Eliakim the father of Azor,14and Azor the father of Zadok, and Zadok the father of Achim, and Achim the father of Eliud,15and Eliud the father of Eleazar, and Eleazar the father of Matthan, and Matthan the father of Jacob,16and Jacob the father of Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom Jesus was born, who is called Christ. (Lu 3:23)17So all the generations from Abraham to David were fourteen generations, and from David to the deportation to Babylon fourteen generations, and from the deportation to Babylon to the Christ fourteen generations. The Birth of Jesus Christ
18Now the birth of Jesus Christ[5] took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed[6] to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. (Mt 1:1; Mt 1:16; Mr 1:1; Lu 1:27; Lu 1:35; Joh 1:17; Joh 17:3)19And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. (De 24:1)20But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. (Mt 2:12; Mt 2:13; Mt 2:19; Mt 2:22)21She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” (Mt 1:25; Lu 1:31; Lu 2:11; Lu 2:21; Ac 3:26; Ac 4:12; Ac 5:31; Ac 13:23; Ac 13:38)22All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: (Mt 2:15; Mt 2:23; Mt 4:14; Mt 21:4; Mt 26:56; Mr 14:49; Joh 19:36)23“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us). (Isa 7:14; Isa 8:8; Isa 8:10; Mt 28:20)24When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife,25but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. Nașterea lui Isus Cristos
18Iar nașterea lui Isus Cristos a fost astfel: Maria, mama Lui, era logodită cu Iosif, dar înainte ca ei să locuiască împreună, ea a rămas însărcinată de la Duhul Sfânt. (Lu 1:26)19Însă Iosif, soțul ei, era un om drept și nu voia s‑o facă de rușine înaintea lumii. De aceea, a vrut s‑o părăsească pe ascuns[5]. (De 22:24)20Dar, în timp ce se gândea el la aceste lucruri, iată că un înger al Domnului i s‑a arătat în vis și i‑a zis: „Iosif, fiu al lui David, nu te teme s‑o iei la tine pe Maria, soția ta, căci ce a luat naștere în ea este de la Duhul Sfânt.21Ea va naște un Fiu, Căruia Îi vei pune numele Isus[6], pentru că El Își va mântui poporul de păcatele lui.“ (Ac 7:45; Heb 4:8)22Toate acestea s‑au întâmplat ca să se împlinească ceea ce a spus Domnul prin profetul care zice:23„Iată, fecioara va rămâne însărcinată, va naște un Fiu și Îi vor pune numele Emanuel“[7], care, tradus, înseamnă „Dumnezeu este cu noi.“ (Isa 7:14)24Când s‑a trezit din somn, Iosif a făcut așa cum i‑a poruncit îngerul Domnului. A luat‑o pe Maria de soție,25dar n‑a cunoscut‑o[8] până când ea nu a dat naștere unui Fiu. Iar el I‑a pus numele Isus.
