Jeremiah 30

English Standard Version

1 The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord:2 “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Write in a book all the words that I have spoken to you. (Jer 36:2; Hab 2:2)3 For behold, days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will restore the fortunes of my people, Israel and Judah, says the Lord, and I will bring them back to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall take possession of it.” (Ezr 2:1; Job 42:10; Isa 11:12; Jer 12:15; Jer 16:15; Jer 23:3; Jer 29:14; Jer 30:18; Jer 31:23; Jer 32:44; Jer 33:7; Jer 33:11; Jer 33:26; La 2:14; Eze 20:42; Ho 1:11; Hab 2:3)4 These are the words that the Lord spoke concerning Israel and Judah: (Jer 30:3)5 “Thus says the Lord: We have heard a cry of panic, of terror, and no peace.6 Ask now, and see, can a man bear a child? Why then do I see every man with his hands on his stomach like a woman in labor? Why has every face turned pale? (Isa 13:8; Joe 2:6; Na 2:10)7 Alas! That day is so great there is none like it; it is a time of distress for Jacob; yet he shall be saved out of it. (Da 12:1; Joe 2:11; Zep 1:14)8 “And it shall come to pass in that day, declares the Lord of hosts, that I will break his yoke from off your neck, and I will burst your bonds, and foreigners shall no more make a servant of him.[1] (Jer 2:20; Jer 27:2; Eze 34:27; Na 1:13)9 But they shall serve the Lord their God and David their king, whom I will raise up for them. (Isa 55:3; Jer 23:5; Eze 34:23; Eze 37:24; Ho 3:5; Lu 1:69; Ac 13:22)10 “Then fear not, O Jacob my servant, declares the Lord, nor be dismayed, O Israel; for behold, I will save you from far away, and your offspring from the land of their captivity. Jacob shall return and have quiet and ease, and none shall make him afraid. (Isa 41:8; Isa 43:5; Jer 3:18; Jer 42:11; Jer 46:27)11 For I am with you to save you, declares the Lord; I will make a full end of all the nations among whom I scattered you, but of you I will not make a full end. I will discipline you in just measure, and I will by no means leave you unpunished. (Jer 10:24; Jer 46:28)12 “For thus says the Lord: Your hurt is incurable, and your wound is grievous. (Jer 10:19; Jer 14:17; Jer 15:18)13 There is none to uphold your cause, no medicine for your wound, no healing for you. (Jer 46:11)14 All your lovers have forgotten you; they care nothing for you; for I have dealt you the blow of an enemy, the punishment of a merciless foe, because your guilt is great, because your sins are flagrant. (Job 13:24; Job 19:11; Job 30:21; Isa 63:10; Jer 4:30; Jer 5:6; Jer 6:23; La 1:2; La 2:4)15 Why do you cry out over your hurt? Your pain is incurable. Because your guilt is great, because your sins are flagrant, I have done these things to you. (Jer 30:12; Jer 30:14)16 Therefore all who devour you shall be devoured, and all your foes, every one of them, shall go into captivity; those who plunder you shall be plundered, and all who prey on you I will make a prey. (Ex 23:22; Isa 33:1; Isa 41:11; Jer 2:14; Jer 10:25; Jer 30:11)17 For I will restore health to you, and your wounds I will heal, declares the Lord, because they have called you an outcast: ‘It is Zion, for whom no one cares!’ (Ps 6:2; Jer 8:22; Jer 33:6; Ho 6:1; Mic 4:6; Zep 3:19)18 “Thus says the Lord: Behold, I will restore the fortunes of the tents of Jacob and have compassion on his dwellings; the city shall be rebuilt on its mound, and the palace shall stand where it used to be. (De 13:16; Jer 30:3; Am 9:11)19 Out of them shall come songs of thanksgiving, and the voices of those who celebrate. I will multiply them, and they shall not be few; I will make them honored, and they shall not be small. (Isa 35:10; Isa 51:11; Jer 31:12; Jer 33:11; Eze 36:10; Eze 36:37; Zec 10:8)20 Their children shall be as they were of old, and their congregation shall be established before me, and I will punish all who oppress them. (Isa 1:26)21 Their prince shall be one of themselves; their ruler shall come out from their midst; I will make him draw near, and he shall approach me, for who would dare of himself to approach me? declares the Lord. (Ge 49:10; Nu 16:5; De 18:18; Jer 49:19; Heb 5:4)22 And you shall be my people, and I will be your God.” (Le 26:12; Jer 24:7; Jer 31:1; Jer 31:33; Jer 32:38)23 Behold the storm of the Lord! Wrath has gone forth, a whirling tempest; it will burst upon the head of the wicked. (Jer 23:19; Jer 25:32)24 The fierce anger of the Lord will not turn back until he has executed and accomplished the intentions of his mind. In the latter days you will understand this. (Jer 12:13; Ho 3:5)

Jeremiah 30

New International Version

1 This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord:2 ‘This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: “Write in a book all the words I have spoken to you.3 The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will bring my people Israel and Judah back from captivity[1] and restore them to the land I gave to their ancestors to possess,” says the Lord.’4 These are the words the Lord spoke concerning Israel and Judah:5 ‘This is what the Lord says: ‘ “Cries of fear are heard – terror, not peace.6 Ask and see: can a man bear children? Then why do I see every strong man with his hands on his stomach like a woman in labour, every face turned deathly pale?7 How awful that day will be! No other will be like it. It will be a time of trouble for Jacob, but he will be saved out of it.8 ‘ “In that day,” declares the Lord Almighty, “I will break the yoke off their necks and will tear off their bonds; no longer will foreigners enslave them.9 Instead, they will serve the Lord their God and David their king, whom I will raise up for them.10 ‘ “So do not be afraid, Jacob my servant; do not be dismayed, Israel,” declares the Lord. “I will surely save you out of a distant place, your descendants from the land of their exile. Jacob will again have peace and security, and no-one will make him afraid.11 I am with you and will save you,” declares the Lord. “Though I completely destroy all the nations among which I scatter you, I will not completely destroy you. I will discipline you but only in due measure; I will not let you go entirely unpunished.”12 ‘This is what the Lord says: ‘ “Your wound is incurable, your injury beyond healing.13 There is no-one to plead your cause, no remedy for your sore, no healing for you.14 All your allies have forgotten you; they care nothing for you. I have struck you as an enemy would and punished you as would the cruel, because your guilt is so great and your sins so many.15 Why do you cry out over your wound, your pain that has no cure? Because of your great guilt and many sins I have done these things to you.16 ‘ “But all who devour you will be devoured; all your enemies will go into exile. Those who plunder you will be plundered; all who make spoil of you I will despoil.17 But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds,” declares the Lord, “because you are called an outcast, Zion for whom no-one cares.”18 ‘This is what the Lord says: ‘ “I will restore the fortunes of Jacob’s tents and have compassion on his dwellings; the city will be rebuilt on her ruins, and the palace will stand in its proper place.19 From them will come songs of thanksgiving and the sound of rejoicing. I will add to their numbers, and they will not be decreased; I will bring them honour, and they will not be disdained.20 Their children will be as in days of old, and their community will be established before me; I will punish all who oppress them.21 Their leader will be one of their own; their ruler will arise from among them. I will bring him near and he will come close to me – for who is he who will devote himself to be close to me?” declares the Lord.22 “So you will be my people, and I will be your God.” ’23 See, the storm of the Lord will burst out in wrath, a driving wind swirling down on the heads of the wicked.24 The fierce anger of the Lord will not turn back until he fully accomplishes the purposes of his heart. In days to come you will understand this.

Jeremiah 30

King James Version

1 The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,2 Thus speaketh the LORD God of Israel, saying, Write thee all the words that I have spoken unto thee in a book.3 For, lo, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will bring again the captivity of my people Israel and Judah, saith the LORD: and I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.4 And these are the words that the LORD spake concerning Israel and concerning Judah.5 For thus saith the LORD; We have heard a voice of trembling, of fear, and not of peace.6 Ask ye now, and see whether a man doth travail with child? wherefore do I see every man with his hands on his loins, as a woman in travail, and all faces are turned into paleness?7 Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob' trouble; but he shall be saved out of it.8 For it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD of hosts, that I will break his yoke from off thy neck, and will burst thy bonds, and strangers shall no more serve themselves of him:9 But they shall serve the LORD their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up unto them.10 Therefore fear thou not, O my servant Jacob, saith the LORD; neither be dismayed, O Israel: for, lo, I will save thee from afar, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and shall be in rest, and be quiet, and none shall make him afraid.11 For I am with thee, saith the LORD, to save thee: though I make a full end of all nations whither I have scattered thee, yet will I not make a full end of thee: but I will correct thee in measure, and will not leave thee altogether unpunished.12 For thus saith the LORD, Thy bruise is incurable, and thy wound is grievous.13 There is none to plead thy cause, that thou mayest be bound up: thou hast no healing medicines.14 All thy lovers have forgotten thee; they seek thee not; for I have wounded thee with the wound of an enemy, with the chastisement of a cruel one, for the multitude of thine iniquity; because thy sins were increased.15 Why criest thou for thine affliction? thy sorrow is incurable for the multitude of thine iniquity: because thy sins were increased, I have done these things unto thee.16 Therefore all they that devour thee shall be devoured; and all thine adversaries, every one of them, shall go into captivity; and they that spoil thee shall be a spoil, and all that prey upon thee will I give for a prey.17 For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the LORD; because they called thee an Outcast, saying , This is Zion, whom no man seeketh after.18 Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will bring again the captivity of Jacob' tents, and have mercy on his dwellingplaces; and the city shall be builded upon her own heap, and the palace shall remain after the manner thereof.19 And out of them shall proceed thanksgiving and the voice of them that make merry: and I will multiply them, and they shall not be few; I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small.20 Their children also shall be as aforetime, and their congregation shall be established before me, and I will punish all that oppress them.21 And their nobles shall be of themselves, and their governor shall proceed from the midst of them; and I will cause him to draw near, and he shall approach unto me: for who is this that engaged his heart to approach unto me? saith the LORD.22 And ye shall be my people, and I will be your God.23 Behold, the whirlwind of the LORD goeth forth with fury, a continuing whirlwind: it shall fall with pain upon the head of the wicked.24 The fierce anger of the LORD shall not return, until he have done it , and until he have performed the intents of his heart: in the latter days ye shall consider it.

Jeremiah 30

New International Reader’s Version

1 A message from the LORD came to Jeremiah. The LORD said,2 ‘I am the LORD. I am the God of Israel. I say, “Write in a book all the words I have spoken to you.3 A new day is coming,” ’ announces the LORD. ‘ “At that time I will bring my people Israel and Judah back from where they have been taken as prisoners. I will bring them back to this land. I gave it to their people of long ago to have as their own,” ’ says the LORD.4 Here are the words the LORD spoke about Israel and Judah. He said,5 ‘I am the LORD. I say, ‘ “Cries of fear are heard. There is terror. There isn’t any peace.6 Ask and see. Can a man give birth to children? Then why do I see every strong man with his hands on his stomach? Each of them is acting like a woman having a baby. Every face is as pale as death.7 How awful that day will be! No other day will be like it. It will be a time of trouble for the people of Jacob. But they will be saved out of it.8 ‘ “At that time I will break the yoke off their necks,” announces the LORD who rules over all. “I will tear off the ropes that hold them. People from other lands will not make them slaves anymore.9 Instead, they will serve me. And they will serve David their king. I will raise him up for them. I am the LORD their God.10 ‘ “People of Jacob, do not be afraid. You are my servant. Israel, do not be terrified,” ’ announces the LORD. ‘ “You can be sure that I will save you. I will bring you out of a place far away. I will bring your children back from the land where they were taken. Your people will have peace and security again. And no one will make them afraid.11 I am with you. I will save you,” ’ announces the LORD. ‘ “I will completely destroy all the nations among which I scatter you. But I will not completely destroy you. I will correct you. But I will be fair. I will not let you go without any punishment.” ’12 The LORD says, ‘Your wound can’t be cured. Your pain can’t be healed.13 No one will stand up for you. There isn’t any medicine for your sore. There isn’t any healing for you.14 All those who were going to help you have forgotten you. They do not care about you. I have struck you as if I were your enemy. I have punished you as if I were very mean. That is because your guilt is so great. You have sinned so much.15 Why do you cry out about your wound? Your pain can’t be healed. Your guilt is very great. And you have committed many sins. That is why I have done all these things to you.16 ‘But everyone who destroys you will be destroyed. All your enemies will be forced to leave their countries. Those who steal from you will be stolen from. I will take the belongings of those who take things from you.17 But I will make you healthy again. I will heal your wounds,’ announces the LORD. ‘That’s because you have been thrown out. You are called Zion, the one no one cares about.’18 The LORD says, ‘I will bless Jacob’s people with great success again. I will show tender love to Israel. Jerusalem will be rebuilt where it was destroyed. The palace will stand in its proper place.19 From those places the songs of people giving thanks will be heard. The sound of great joy will come from there. I will cause there to be more of my people. There will not be fewer of them. I will bring them honour. People will have respect for them.20 Things will be as they used to be for Jacob’s people. I will make their community firm and secure. I will punish everyone who treats them badly.21 Their leader will be one of their own people. Their ruler will rise up from among them. I will bring him near. And he will come close to me. He will commit himself to serve me,’ announces the LORD.22 ‘So you will be my people. And I will be your God.’23 A storm will burst out because of the LORD’s great anger. A strong wind will sweep down on the heads of evil people.24 The LORD’s great anger won’t turn back. He will accomplish everything his heart plans to do. In days to come you will understand this.
