1The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the Judeans who lived in the land of Egypt, at Migdol, at Tahpanhes, at Memphis, and in the land of Pathros, (Ex 14:2; Isa 11:11; Jer 43:7; Jer 44:15; Jer 46:14)2“Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: You have seen all the disaster that I brought upon Jerusalem and upon all the cities of Judah. Behold, this day they are a desolation, and no one dwells in them, (Jer 44:6)3because of the evil that they committed, provoking me to anger, in that they went to make offerings and serve other gods that they knew not, neither they, nor you, nor your fathers. (De 6:14; Jer 1:16; Jer 7:18; Jer 19:4; Jer 44:8)4Yet I persistently sent to you all my servants the prophets, saying, ‘Oh, do not do this abomination that I hate!’ (2Ch 36:15)5But they did not listen or incline their ear, to turn from their evil and make no offerings to other gods. (Jer 34:14)6Therefore my wrath and my anger were poured out and kindled in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, and they became a waste and a desolation, as at this day. (Jer 7:20; Jer 7:34; Jer 9:11)7And now thus says the Lord God of hosts, the God of Israel: Why do you commit this great evil against yourselves, to cut off from you man and woman, infant and child, from the midst of Judah, leaving you no remnant? (Nu 16:38; Pr 20:2; Jer 38:23; La 2:11; Hab 2:10)8Why do you provoke me to anger with the works of your hands, making offerings to other gods in the land of Egypt where you have come to live, so that you may be cut off and become a curse and a taunt among all the nations of the earth? (Jer 18:16; Jer 42:18; Jer 44:3)9Have you forgotten the evil of your fathers, the evil of the kings of Judah, the evil of their[1] wives, your own evil, and the evil of your wives, which they committed in the land of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem? (1Ki 11:1; 1Ki 11:8; 1Ki 15:13; 2Ki 11:1; Jer 15:4; Jer 44:15; Jer 44:25)10They have not humbled themselves even to this day, nor have they feared, nor walked in my law and my statutes that I set before you and before your fathers. (Pr 28:14)11“Therefore thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will set my face against you for harm, to cut off all Judah. (Jer 21:10)12I will take the remnant of Judah who have set their faces to come to the land of Egypt to live, and they shall all be consumed. In the land of Egypt they shall fall; by the sword and by famine they shall be consumed. From the least to the greatest, they shall die by the sword and by famine, and they shall become an oath, a horror, a curse, and a taunt. (Jer 6:13; Jer 18:16; Jer 42:15; Jer 42:16; Jer 44:8)13I will punish those who dwell in the land of Egypt, as I have punished Jerusalem, with the sword, with famine, and with pestilence, (Jer 43:11)14so that none of the remnant of Judah who have come to live in the land of Egypt shall escape or survive or return to the land of Judah, to which they desire to return to dwell there. For they shall not return, except some fugitives.” (Jer 22:27; Jer 42:17; Jer 44:28)15Then all the men who knew that their wives had made offerings to other gods, and all the women who stood by, a great assembly, all the people who lived in Pathros in the land of Egypt, answered Jeremiah: (Jer 44:1; Jer 44:9; Jer 44:25)16“As for the word that you have spoken to us in the name of the Lord, we will not listen to you. (Jer 6:16; Jer 42:13)17But we will do everything that we have vowed, make offerings to the queen of heaven and pour out drink offerings to her, as we did, both we and our fathers, our kings and our officials, in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. For then we had plenty of food, and prospered, and saw no disaster. (Jud 11:36; 1Ki 11:33; 2Ki 21:3; Jer 7:18; Jer 19:13)18But since we left off making offerings to the queen of heaven and pouring out drink offerings to her, we have lacked everything and have been consumed by the sword and by famine.” (Jer 44:17; La 3:22)19And the women said,[2] “When we made offerings to the queen of heaven and poured out drink offerings to her, was it without our husbands’ approval that we made cakes for her bearing her image and poured out drink offerings to her?” (Nu 30:6; Jer 7:18)20Then Jeremiah said to all the people, men and women, all the people who had given him this answer: (Jer 43:6)21“As for the offerings that you offered in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, you and your fathers, your kings and your officials, and the people of the land, did not the Lord remember them? Did it not come into his mind? (Jer 44:17; Eze 8:10; Eze 21:24)22The Lord could no longer bear your evil deeds and the abominations that you committed. Therefore your land has become a desolation and a waste and a curse, without inhabitant, as it is this day. (Jer 4:7; Jer 5:9; Jer 5:29; Jer 7:34; Jer 18:16; Eze 8:6)23It is because you made offerings and because you sinned against the Lord and did not obey the voice of the Lord or walk in his law and in his statutes and in his testimonies that this disaster has happened to you, as at this day.” (De 31:29; Jer 40:3)24Jeremiah said to all the people and all the women, “Hear the word of the Lord, all you of Judah who are in the land of Egypt. (Jer 44:16; Jer 44:17)26Therefore hear the word of the Lord, all you of Judah who dwell in the land of Egypt: Behold, I have sworn by my great name, says the Lord, that my name shall no more be invoked by the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, ‘As the Lord God lives.’ (Jer 4:2; Jer 22:5; Jer 44:24; Eze 20:39)27Behold, I am watching over them for disaster and not for good. All the men of Judah who are in the land of Egypt shall be consumed by the sword and by famine, until there is an end of them. (Jer 31:28; Jer 42:16)28And those who escape the sword shall return from the land of Egypt to the land of Judah, few in number; and all the remnant of Judah, who came to the land of Egypt to live, shall know whose word will stand, mine or theirs. (Isa 27:13; Jer 44:14; Jer 44:17; Jer 44:25; Eze 6:8)29This shall be the sign to you, declares the Lord, that I will punish you in this place, in order that you may know that my words will surely stand against you for harm: (Pr 19:21)30Thus says the Lord, Behold, I will give Pharaoh Hophra king of Egypt into the hand of his enemies and into the hand of those who seek his life, as I gave Zedekiah king of Judah into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, who was his enemy and sought his life.” (Jer 39:5; Jer 46:17; Jer 46:26; Eze 29:2; Eze 30:21)

(Jer 7:26)6Darum ergoss sich auch mein Zorn und Grimm und entbrannte über die Städte Judas und die Gassen Jerusalems, dass sie zur Wüste und Öde geworden sind, so wie es heute ist.7Nun, so spricht der HERR, der Gott Zebaoth, der Gott Israels: Warum tut ihr euch selbst ein so großes Unheil an, dass bei euch ausgerottet werden aus Juda Mann und Frau, Kind und Säugling und nichts von euch übrig bleibt, (Jer 42:22)8und erzürnt mich so durch eurer Hände Werke und opfert andern Göttern in Ägyptenland, wohin ihr gezogen seid, um dort zu wohnen, auf dass ihr ausgerottet und zum Fluch und zur Schmach werdet unter allen Völkern auf Erden?9Habt ihr vergessen all das Böse, das eure Väter und die Könige von Juda und ihre Frauen, dazu ihr selbst und eure Frauen getan haben im Lande Juda und auf den Gassen Jerusalems? (Jer 7:17)10Sie haben sich bis auf diesen Tag nicht gedemütigt, fürchten sich auch nicht und wandeln nicht in meinem Gesetz und den Ordnungen, die ich euch und euren Vätern gegeben habe.11Darum, so spricht der HERR Zebaoth, der Gott Israels: Siehe, ich will mein Angesicht wider euch richten zum Unheil, und ganz Juda soll ausgerottet werden. (Am 9:4)12Und ich will wegraffen, die übrig geblieben sind von Juda, die ihr Angesicht nach Ägyptenland gerichtet haben, um dorthin zu ziehen und dort zu wohnen; es soll ein Ende mit ihnen allen werden in Ägyptenland. Durchs Schwert sollen sie fallen und durch Hunger sollen sie umkommen, Klein und Groß; sie sollen durch Schwert und Hunger sterben und sollen zur Verwünschung, zum Entsetzen, zum Fluch und zur Schmach werden. (Jer 42:14)13Ich will auch jene, die in Ägyptenland wohnen, heimsuchen mit Schwert, Hunger und Pest, gleichwie ich an Jerusalem getan habe,14sodass von denen, die übrig geblieben sind von Juda und die hierher gekommen sind nach Ägyptenland, um hier zu wohnen, keiner entrinnen und entkommen soll. Sie sollen nicht mehr ins Land Juda zurückkehren, wohin sie gerne wiederkämen und wohnten, sondern es soll keiner dahin zurückkommen außer einigen Entronnenen.15Da antworteten dem Jeremia alle Männer, die sehr wohl wussten, dass ihre Frauen andern Göttern opferten, und alle Frauen, die dabeistanden, eine große Menge, samt allem Volk, das in Ägyptenland und in Patros wohnte, und sprachen: (Isa 11:11)16Das Wort, das du uns im Namen des HERRN sagst – wir wollen dir nicht gehorchen.17Das Wort, das aus unserm eigenen Munde gekommen ist, das wollen wir halten und der Himmelskönigin opfern und ihr Trankopfer darbringen, wie wir und unsere Väter, unsere Könige und Oberen getan haben in den Städten Judas und auf den Gassen Jerusalems. Da hatten wir auch Brot genug und es ging uns gut, und wir sahen kein Unglück. (Jer 7:17; Ho 2:7)18Seit der Zeit aber, da wir es unterlassen haben, der Himmelskönigin zu opfern und Trankopfer darzubringen, haben wir an allem Mangel gelitten und sind durch Schwert und Hunger umgekommen.19Und wenn wir Frauen der Himmelskönigin opfern und Trankopfer darbringen, das tun wir ja nicht ohne den Willen unserer Männer, wenn wir ihr Opferkuchen backen, die sie abbilden, und ihr Trankopfer darbringen. (Nu 30:11)20Da sprach Jeremia zu dem ganzen Volk, den Männern und Frauen und allen Leuten, die ihm so geantwortet hatten:21Waren es nicht jene Opfer, an die der HERR gedacht hat, die ihr in den Städten Judas und auf den Gassen Jerusalems dargebracht habt, ihr und eure Väter, Könige, Oberen und alles Volk des Landes? Waren nicht sie es, die ihm in den Sinn gekommen sind?22So konnte der HERR es nicht mehr ertragen wegen eures bösen Wandels und der Gräuel, die ihr tatet; daher ist auch euer Land zur Wüste, zum Entsetzen und zum Fluch geworden, dass niemand darin wohnt, so wie es heute ist.23Weil ihr der Himmelskönigin geopfert habt und wider den HERRN sündigtet und der Stimme des HERRN nicht gehorchtet und in seinem Gesetze, seinen Rechten und Mahnungen nicht gewandelt seid, darum ist euch solches Unheil widerfahren, so wie es heute ist.24Und Jeremia sprach zu allem Volk und zu allen Frauen: Höret des HERRN Wort, ihr alle aus Juda, die in Ägyptenland sind!25So spricht der HERR Zebaoth, der Gott Israels: Ihr und eure Frauen, was ihr mit eurem Munde gelobt habt, vollbringt ihr mit euren Händen. Ihr sagt: »Wir wollen unsere Gelübde halten, die wir der Himmelskönigin gelobt haben, dass wir ihr opfern und Trankopfer darbringen.« Wohlan, erfüllt doch eure Gelübde und haltet eure Gelübde!26So höret nun des HERRN Wort, ihr alle aus Juda, die ihr in Ägyptenland wohnt: Siehe, ich schwöre bei meinem großen Namen, spricht der HERR, dass mein Name nicht mehr genannt werden soll durch irgendeines Menschen Mund aus Juda in ganz Ägyptenland, der da sagt: »So wahr Gott der HERR lebt!«27Siehe, ich will über sie wachen zum Unheil und nicht zum Heil, dass, wer aus Juda in Ägyptenland ist, durch Schwert und Hunger umkommen soll, bis es ein Ende mit ihnen hat. (Jer 21:10)28Die aber dem Schwert entrinnen, werden aus Ägyptenland ins Land Juda zurückkommen als ein geringes Häuflein. So werden dann alle, die übrig geblieben sind von Juda und die nach Ägyptenland gezogen waren, dort zu wohnen, erkennen, wessen Wort wahr geworden ist, meines oder ihres.29Und dies sei das Zeichen, spricht der HERR: Ich will euch an diesem Ort heimsuchen, damit ihr wisst, dass mein Wort wahr werden soll über euch zum Unheil.30So spricht der HERR: Siehe, ich will den Pharao Hofra, den König von Ägypten, übergeben in die Hände seiner Feinde und derer, die ihm nach dem Leben trachten, gleichwie ich Zedekia, den König von Juda, übergeben habe in die Hand Nebukadnezars, des Königs von Babel, seines Feindes, der ihm nach dem Leben trachtete. Elles ne sont plus aujourd'hui que des ruines inhabitées3à cause du mal qu'ils ont commis au point de m'irriter: ils sont allés brûler de l'encens et servir d'autres dieux, inconnus d'eux, de vous et de vos ancêtres.4Je vous ai envoyé tous mes serviteurs, les prophètes. Je les ai envoyés inlassablement dire: ‘Ne commettez plus ces horreurs que je déteste!’5Mais ils n'ont pas écouté, ils n'ont pas tendu l'oreille, ils n'ont pas renoncé à leur attitude perverse. Ils n'ont pas cessé de faire brûler de l'encens en l'honneur d'autres dieux.6Ma fureur et ma colère se sont alors déversées, incendiant les villes de Juda et les rues de Jérusalem, et celles-ci ne sont plus que ruines et terres dévastées, comme on peut le constater aujourd'hui.7»Maintenant voici ce que dit l'Eternel, le Dieu de l'univers, le Dieu d'Israël: Pourquoi vous faites-vous un si grand mal? Pourquoi faire disparaître du milieu de Juda hommes, femmes, enfants et nouveau-nés, de telle sorte qu'il ne subsiste plus rien de vous?8Pourquoi m'irritez-vous par vos agissements en faisant brûler de l'encens en l'honneur d'autres dieux, en Egypte où vous êtes venus vous réfugier? Vous vous exposez ainsi à être exterminés et à devenir un sujet de malédiction et d'insulte parmi toutes les nations de la terre!9Avez-vous oublié le mal commis dans le pays de Juda et dans les rues de Jérusalem par vos ancêtres, par les rois de Juda et leurs femmes, par vous-mêmes et vos femmes?10»Jusqu'à aujourd'hui, aucune trace de brisement chez eux. Ils n'ont pas fait preuve de crainte, ils n'ont pas suivi ma loi et mes prescriptions. Pourtant, je vous les avais communiquées, à vous et à vos ancêtres.11C'est pourquoi, voici ce que dit l'Eternel, le maître de l'univers, le Dieu d'Israël: J'ai décidé de faire votre malheur et d'exterminer tout Juda.12J'enlèverai le reste de Juda, ceux qui ont pris la décision d'aller en Egypte pour s'y réfugier. Ils disparaîtront tous de l'Egypte. Ils tomberont par l'épée ou par la famine. Ils disparaîtront du plus petit au plus grand par l'épée ou par la famine. Ils mourront et deviendront un sujet d'imprécation, de consternation, de malédiction et d'insulte.13J'interviendrai contre ceux qui se sont installés en Egypte de la même manière que je l'ai fait contre Jérusalem: par l'épée, la famine et la peste.14Il n'y aura ni rescapé ni survivant, parmi le reste de Juda venu se réfugier en Egypte, pour retourner dans le pays de Juda. Ils ont beau aspirer à retourner s'installer là-bas, ils n'y retourneront pas, mis à part quelques rescapés.»15Tous les hommes qui savaient que leur femme faisait brûler de l'encens en l'honneur d'autres dieux, toutes les femmes qui se tenaient là en une grande assemblée et tout le peuple installé en Egypte, à Pathros, répondirent à Jérémie:16«Tu as beau nous parler au nom de l'Eternel, nous ne t'écoutons pas.17Nous voulons faire tout ce que nous avons dit et continuer de faire brûler de l'encens et de verser des offrandes liquides en l'honneur de la reine du ciel, tout comme nous l'avons déjà fait, nous et nos ancêtres, nos rois et nos chefs, dans les villes de Juda et dans les rues de Jérusalem. Nous étions alors rassasiés de pain et heureux, nous ne connaissions pas le malheur.18C'est depuis que nous avons cessé de faire brûler de l'encens et de verser des offrandes liquides en l'honneur de la reine du ciel que nous manquons de tout, que nous sommes exterminés par l'épée et par la famine.19D'ailleurs, lorsque nous faisons brûler de l'encens et versons des offrandes liquides en l'honneur de la reine du ciel, est-ce à l'insu de nos maris que nous lui préparons des gâteaux à son effigie et lui versons des offrandes liquides?»20Jérémie dit alors à tout le peuple, aux hommes et aux femmes, à tous ceux qui lui avaient donné cette réponse:21«L'encens que vous avez fait brûler dans les villes de Juda et dans les rues de Jérusalem, vous et vos ancêtres, vos rois et vos chefs ainsi que l'ensemble de la population, l'Eternel s'en est souvenu, il ne l'a pas oublié.22Il ne pouvait plus supporter la méchanceté de vos agissements, les horreurs que vous avez commises, et votre pays est devenu une ruine, un désert, un endroit maudit, inhabité, comme on peut le constater aujourd'hui.23C'est parce que vous avez fait brûler de l'encens et péché contre l'Eternel, parce que vous ne l'avez pas écouté et n'avez pas suivi sa loi, ses prescriptions et ses instructions. Oui, c'est justement pour cela que ce malheur vous a frappés, comme on peut le constater aujourd'hui.»24Jérémie dit encore à tout le peuple et à toutes les femmes: «Ecoutez la parole de l'Eternel, vous tous, Judéens d'Egypte!25Voici ce que dit l'Eternel, le maître de l'univers, le Dieu d'Israël: Vous et vos femmes avez formellement déclaré, tout en le confirmant par vos actes: ‘Nous voulons accomplir les vœux que nous avons faits en brûlant de l'encens et versant des offrandes liquides en l'honneur de la reine du ciel.’ Eh bien, vous respecterez vos vœux et les accomplirez jusqu'au bout!26Ecoutez donc la parole de l'Eternel, vous tous, Judéens installés en Egypte! Je jure par mon grand nom, dit l'Eternel, que plus aucun homme de Juda ne fera appel à mon nom, que dans toute l'Egypte plus personne ne dira: ‘Le Seigneur est vivant, c'est l'Eternel!’27Je vais veiller sur eux pour leur malheur et non pour leur bien. Tous les hommes de Juda qui se trouvent en Egypte seront éliminés par l'épée et par la famine, jusqu'à leur extermination complète.28Les quelques-uns qui auront échappé à l'épée reviendront depuis l'Egypte dans le pays de Juda, et tout le reste de Juda venu se réfugier en Egypte saura alors quelle est la parole qui se sera accomplie: la mienne ou la leur.29Et je vais vous donner un signe que j'interviendrai moi-même contre vous dans cet endroit, déclare l'Eternel, afin que vous sachiez que mes paroles s'accompliront vraiment contre vous, pour votre malheur.30Voici ce que dit l'Eternel: Je vais livrer le pharaon Hophra, roi d'Egypte, entre les mains de ses ennemis, entre les mains de ceux qui en veulent à sa vie, tout comme j'ai livré Sédécias, roi de Juda, entre les mains de Nebucadnetsar, roi de Babylone, son ennemi, qui en voulait à sa vie.»
