Jeremiah Taken to Egypt

1 When Jeremiah finished speaking to all the people all these words of the Lord their God, with which the Lord their God had sent him to them, 2 Azariah the son of Hoshaiah and Johanan the son of Kareah and all the insolent men said to Jeremiah, “You are telling a lie. The Lord our God did not send you to say, ‘Do not go to Egypt to live there,’ (Ps 86:14; Isa 13:11; Jer 40:8; Jer 42:1; Jer 42:19; Mal 4:1)

3 but Baruch the son of Neriah has set you against us, to deliver us into the hand of the Chaldeans, that they may kill us or take us into exile in Babylon.” (Jer 32:12; Jer 37:13; Jer 38:22) 4 So Johanan the son of Kareah and all the commanders of the forces and all the people did not obey the voice of the Lord, to remain in the land of Judah. (Jer 40:13; Jer 43:2) 5 But Johanan the son of Kareah and all the commanders of the forces took all the remnant of Judah who had returned to live in the land of Judah from all the nations to which they had been driven— (Jer 40:11) 6 the men, the women, the children, the princesses, and every person whom Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had left with Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan; also Jeremiah the prophet and Baruch the son of Neriah. 7 And they came into the land of Egypt, for they did not obey the voice of the Lord. And they arrived at Tahpanhes. (Isa 30:4; Jer 2:16; Jer 44:1; Jer 46:14)

8 Then the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah in Tahpanhes: (Jer 43:7) 9 “Take in your hands large stones and hide them in the mortar in the pavement that is at the entrance to Pharaoh’s palace in Tahpanhes, in the sight of the men of Judah, (Jer 43:7) 10 and say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will send and take Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and I will set his throne above these stones that I have hidden, and he will spread his royal canopy over them. (Jer 1:15; Jer 25:9) 11 He shall come and strike the land of Egypt, giving over to the pestilence those who are doomed to the pestilence, to captivity those who are doomed to captivity, and to the sword those who are doomed to the sword. (Jer 15:2; Jer 44:13; Jer 46:13) 12 I shall kindle a fire in the temples of the gods of Egypt, and he shall burn them and carry them away captive. And he shall clean the land of Egypt as a shepherd cleans his cloak of vermin, and he shall go away from there in peace. 13 He shall break the obelisks of Heliopolis, which is in the land of Egypt, and the temples of the gods of Egypt he shall burn with fire.’” (Ex 23:24; Jer 43:12)

1 Als Jeremia dem ganzen Volk alle Worte des HERRN, ihres Gottes, ausgerichtet hatte, wie ihm der HERR, ihr Gott, alle diese Worte an sie befohlen hatte, 2 sprachen Asarja, der Sohn Hoschajas, und Johanan, der Sohn Kareachs, und alle aufsässigen Männer zu Jeremia: Du lügst! Der HERR, unser Gott, hat dich nicht zu uns gesandt und gesagt: »Ihr sollt nicht nach Ägypten ziehen, um dort zu wohnen«, 3 sondern Baruch, der Sohn Nerijas, hetzt dich gegen uns auf, damit wir den Chaldäern übergeben werden und sie uns töten oder nach Babel wegführen. (Jer 36:32) 4 Da gehorchten Johanan, der Sohn Kareachs, und alle Hauptleute des Heeres samt dem ganzen Volk der Stimme des HERRN nicht, dass sie im Lande Juda geblieben wären, 5 sondern Johanan, der Sohn Kareachs, und alle Hauptleute des Heeres nahmen zu sich alle Übriggebliebenen von Juda, die von allen Völkern, wohin sie geflohen, zurückgekommen waren, um im Lande Juda zu wohnen, 6 nämlich Männer, Frauen und Kinder, dazu die Königstöchter und alle Übrigen, die Nebusaradan, der Oberste der Leibwache, bei Gedalja, dem Sohn Ahikams, des Sohnes Schafans, gelassen hatte, und auch den Propheten Jeremia und Baruch, den Sohn Nerijas. 7 Und sie zogen nach Ägyptenland, denn sie wollten der Stimme des HERRN nicht gehorchen, und kamen nach Tachpanhes. (2Ki 25:26; Jer 42:14)

8 Aber des HERRN Wort geschah zu Jeremia in Tachpanhes: 9 Nimm große Steine und füge sie mit Lehm in das Ziegelpflaster am Eingang des Hauses des Pharao in Tachpanhes, sodass die Männer aus Juda es sehen, 10 und sprich zu ihnen: So spricht der HERR Zebaoth, der Gott Israels: Siehe, ich will hinsenden und meinen Knecht Nebukadnezar, den König von Babel, holen lassen und will seinen Thron oben auf diese Steine setzen, die ich einfügen ließ; und er soll seinen Thronhimmel darüber ausspannen. (Jer 25:9) 11 Er soll kommen und Ägyptenland schlagen und töten, wen es trifft, gefangen führen, wen es trifft, mit dem Schwert erschlagen, wen es trifft. (Jer 15:2) 12 Und er wird die Tempel Ägyptens in Brand stecken und niederbrennen und ihre Götter wegführen. Und er soll Ägyptenland lausen, wie ein Hirt sein Kleid laust, und mit Frieden von dannen ziehen. (Jer 46:25) 13 Er soll die Steinmale von Bet-Schemesch in Ägyptenland zerbrechen und die Tempel der Götter Ägyptens mit Feuer verbrennen.

1 Lorsque Jérémie eut fini de dire à l'ensemble du peuple toutes les paroles de l'Eternel, leur Dieu, toutes ces paroles que l'Eternel, leur Dieu, l'avait chargé de leur dire, 2 Azaria, fils d'Hosée, Jochanan, fils de Karéach, et tous les hommes orgueilleux dirent à Jérémie: «Tu dis des mensonges! L'Eternel, notre Dieu, ne t'a pas chargé de nous interdire d'aller nous réfugier en Egypte. 3 C'est Baruc, fils de Nérija, qui te manipule contre nous pour nous livrer entre les mains des Babyloniens, afin qu'ils nous tuent ou nous exilent à Babylone.» 4 Jochanan, fils de Karéach, tous les chefs de troupes et l'ensemble du peuple n'écoutèrent pas l'appel de l'Eternel à s'installer dans le pays de Juda. 5 Au contraire, Jochanan, fils de Karéach, et tous les chefs de troupes prirent toute la population restante de Juda, ceux qui, après avoir été chassés parmi toutes les nations, étaient revenus séjourner dans le pays de Juda. 6 Ils prirent les hommes, les femmes, les enfants, les filles du roi et toutes les personnes que Nebuzaradan, le chef des gardes, avait laissées vivre tranquilles avec Guedalia, fils d'Achikam et petit-fils de Shaphan, ainsi que le prophète Jérémie et Baruc, fils de Nérija. 7 Ils se rendirent en Egypte, puisqu'ils ne voulaient pas obéir à l'Eternel, et ils arrivèrent à Tachpanès.

8 A Tachpanès, la parole de l'Eternel fut adressée à Jérémie: 9 «Prends de grandes pierres et cache-les dans l'argile, en présence des Juifs, là où l'on fabrique les briques, à l'entrée de la maison du pharaon à Tachpanès. 10 Puis tu diras aux Juifs: ‘Voici ce que dit l'Eternel, le maître de l'univers, le Dieu d'Israël: Je vais envoyer chercher mon serviteur Nebucadnetsar, le roi de Babylone; je placerai son trône sur ces pierres que j'ai cachées, et il déroulera son tapis sur elles. 11 Il viendra frapper l'Egypte: celui qui est destiné à la mort ira à la mort, celui qui est destiné à la déportation ira en déportation, celui qui est destiné à l'épée mourra par l'épée. 12 Je mettrai le feu aux maisons des dieux des Egyptiens; Nebucadnetsar les brûlera et les emmènera en déportation. Il s'enveloppera de l'Egypte comme le berger s'enveloppe de son manteau et il sortira de là dans la paix. 13 Il mettra en pièces les statues de Beth-Shémesh, en Egypte, et il livrera aux flammes les maisons des dieux des Egyptiens.’»
