1In the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word came to Jeremiah from the Lord: (Jer 25:1; Jer 36:9; Jer 45:1)2“Take a scroll and write on it all the words that I have spoken to you against Israel and Judah and all the nations, from the day I spoke to you, from the days of Josiah until today. (Ezr 6:2; Ps 40:7; Jer 1:2; Jer 25:2; Jer 25:3; Jer 25:15; Jer 30:2; Jer 51:60; Eze 2:9; Zec 5:1)3It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the disaster that I intend to do to them, so that every one may turn from his evil way, and that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.” (Jer 18:8; Jer 26:3; Jer 31:34; Eze 12:3; Am 5:15; Zep 2:3)4Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah, and Baruch wrote on a scroll at the dictation of Jeremiah all the words of the Lord that he had spoken to him. (Jer 32:12; Jer 36:2)5And Jeremiah ordered Baruch, saying, “I am banned from going to the house of the Lord, (Jer 32:2; Jer 33:1; Jer 36:4; Jer 39:15)6so you are to go, and on a day of fasting in the hearing of all the people in the Lord’s house you shall read the words of the Lord from the scroll that you have written at my dictation. You shall read them also in the hearing of all the men of Judah who come out of their cities. (Jer 36:9)7It may be that their plea for mercy will come before the Lord, and that every one will turn from his evil way, for great is the anger and wrath that the Lord has pronounced against this people.” (Jer 36:3)8And Baruch the son of Neriah did all that Jeremiah the prophet ordered him about reading from the scroll the words of the Lord in the Lord’s house.9In the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, in the ninth month, all the people in Jerusalem and all the people who came from the cities of Judah to Jerusalem proclaimed a fast before the Lord. (2Ch 20:3; Jer 36:1; Jer 36:22)10Then, in the hearing of all the people, Baruch read the words of Jeremiah from the scroll, in the house of the Lord, in the chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan the secretary, which was in the upper court, at the entry of the New Gate of the Lord’s house. (Jer 35:2)11When Micaiah the son of Gemariah, son of Shaphan, heard all the words of the Lord from the scroll, (2Ch 34:8; 2Ch 34:15; 2Ch 34:18; Jer 26:24; Jer 40:5)12he went down to the king’s house, into the secretary’s chamber, and all the officials were sitting there: Elishama the secretary, Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, Elnathan the son of Achbor, Gemariah the son of Shaphan, Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the officials. (2Ki 25:25; Jer 26:10; Jer 26:22; Jer 36:20; Jer 36:25; Jer 41:1)13And Micaiah told them all the words that he had heard, when Baruch read the scroll in the hearing of the people.14Then all the officials sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, son of Shelemiah, son of Cushi, to say to Baruch, “Take in your hand the scroll that you read in the hearing of the people, and come.” So Baruch the son of Neriah took the scroll in his hand and came to them. (Jer 36:26; Jer 37:3; Jer 37:13; Jer 38:1)15And they said to him, “Sit down and read it.” So Baruch read it to them.16When they heard all the words, they turned one to another in fear. And they said to Baruch, “We must report all these words to the king.” (Jer 36:20)17Then they asked Baruch, “Tell us, please, how did you write all these words? Was it at his dictation?”18Baruch answered them, “He dictated all these words to me, while I wrote them with ink on the scroll.” (Jer 36:32; Ro 16:22)19Then the officials said to Baruch, “Go and hide, you and Jeremiah, and let no one know where you are.”20So they went into the court to the king, having put the scroll in the chamber of Elishama the secretary, and they reported all the words to the king. (Jer 36:12)21Then the king sent Jehudi to get the scroll, and he took it from the chamber of Elishama the secretary. And Jehudi read it to the king and all the officials who stood beside the king.22It was the ninth month, and the king was sitting in the winter house, and there was a fire burning in the fire pot before him. (Jer 36:9; Am 3:15; Joh 10:22)23As Jehudi read three or four columns, the king would cut them off with a knife and throw them into the fire in the fire pot, until the entire scroll was consumed in the fire that was in the fire pot.24Yet neither the king nor any of his servants who heard all these words was afraid, nor did they tear their garments. (Jos 7:6; Jer 36:16)25Even when Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah urged the king not to burn the scroll, he would not listen to them. (Isa 59:16; Jer 36:12)26And the king commanded Jerahmeel the king’s son and Seraiah the son of Azriel and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel to seize Baruch the secretary and Jeremiah the prophet, but the Lord hid them. (1Ki 22:26; Jer 36:14; Jer 45:1; Zep 1:8)27Now after the king had burned the scroll with the words that Baruch wrote at Jeremiah’s dictation, the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah:28“Take another scroll and write on it all the former words that were in the first scroll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah has burned.29And concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah you shall say, ‘Thus says the Lord, You have burned this scroll, saying, “Why have you written in it that the king of Babylon will certainly come and destroy this land, and will cut off from it man and beast?” (Jer 26:9)30Therefore thus says the Lord concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah: He shall have none to sit on the throne of David, and his dead body shall be cast out to the heat by day and the frost by night. (Jer 22:2; Jer 22:4; Jer 22:19; Jer 22:30)31And I will punish him and his offspring and his servants for their iniquity. I will bring upon them and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem and upon the people of Judah all the disaster that I have pronounced against them, but they would not hear.’” (Jer 1:16)32Then Jeremiah took another scroll and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah, who wrote on it at the dictation of Jeremiah all the words of the scroll that Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire. And many similar words were added to them. (Jer 36:4; Jer 36:18)

(Jer 26:3)4Da rief Jeremia Baruch, den Sohn Nerijas. Und Baruch schrieb auf eine Schriftrolle alle Worte des HERRN, die er zu Jeremia geredet hatte, wie Jeremia sie ihm sagte. (Jer 32:12; Jer 45:1)5Und Jeremia gebot Baruch und sprach: Mir ist’s verwehrt, ich kann nicht in des HERRN Haus gehen.6Du aber geh hin und lies die Schriftrolle, auf die du des HERRN Worte, wie ich sie dir gesagt habe, geschrieben hast, dem Volk vor im Hause des HERRN am Fasttage, und du sollst sie auch lesen vor den Ohren aller Judäer, die aus ihren Städten hereinkommen.7Vielleicht werden sie sich mit Beten vor dem HERRN demütigen und sich bekehren, ein jeder von seinem bösen Wege; denn der Zorn und Grimm ist groß, den der HERR diesem Volk angedroht hat.8Und Baruch, der Sohn Nerijas, tat alles, wie ihm der Prophet Jeremia befohlen hatte, dass er die Worte des HERRN aus der Schriftrolle vorläse im Hause des HERRN.9Es begab sich aber im fünften Jahr Jojakims, des Sohnes Josias, des Königs von Juda, im neunten Monat, dass man ein Fasten ausrief vor dem HERRN für alles Volk zu Jerusalem und für alles Volk, das aus den Städten Judas nach Jerusalem kam.10Und Baruch las aus der Schriftrolle die Worte Jeremias vor im Hause des HERRN, in der Kammer Gemarjas, des Sohnes Schafans, des Schreibers, im oberen Vorhof bei dem neuen Tor am Hause des HERRN, vor dem ganzen Volk. (2Ki 22:3)11Als nun Michaja, der Sohn Gemarjas, des Sohnes Schafans, alle Worte des HERRN gehört hatte aus der Schriftrolle,12ging er hinab in des Königs Haus in die Kanzlei. Und siehe, dort saßen alle Oberen: Elischama, der Schreiber, Delaja, der Sohn Schemajas, Elnatan, der Sohn Achbors, Gemarja, der Sohn Schafans, und Zidkija, der Sohn Hananjas, samt allen andern Oberen. (Jer 26:22)13Und Michaja berichtete ihnen alle Worte, die er gehört hatte, als Baruch dem Volk aus der Schriftrolle vorlas.14Da sandten alle Oberen Jehudi, den Sohn Netanjas, des Sohnes Schelemjas, des Sohnes Kuschis, zu Baruch und ließen ihm sagen: Nimm die Schriftrolle, aus der du dem Volk vorgelesen hast, mit dir und komm! Und Baruch, der Sohn Nerijas, nahm die Schriftrolle mit sich und kam zu ihnen.15Und sie sprachen zu ihm: Setze dich und lies vor, dass wir’s hören! Und Baruch las ihnen vor.16Und als sie alle die Worte hörten, entsetzten sie sich untereinander und sprachen zu Baruch: Wir müssen alle diese Worte dem König anzeigen.17Und sie fragten Baruch: Sage uns, wie hast du alle seine Worte niedergeschrieben?18Baruch sprach zu ihnen: Jeremia hat mir alle diese Worte vorgesagt, und ich schrieb sie mit Tinte auf die Schriftrolle.19Da sprachen die Oberen zu Baruch: Geh hin und verbirg dich mit Jeremia, dass niemand wisse, wo ihr seid!20Sie aber gingen hinein zum König in den Vorhof und ließen die Schriftrolle verwahren in der Kammer Elischamas, des Schreibers, und teilten dem König alle diese Worte mit.21Da sandte der König den Jehudi, die Schriftrolle zu holen. Der nahm sie aus der Kammer Elischamas, des Schreibers. Und Jehudi las dem König vor und allen Oberen, die bei dem König standen.22Der König aber saß im Winterhause vor dem Kohlenbecken; denn es war im neunten Monat.23Sooft nun Jehudi drei oder vier Spalten gelesen hatte, schnitt er sie ab mit einem Schreibmesser und warf sie ins Feuer, das im Kohlenbecken war, bis die ganze Schriftrolle im Feuer verbrannt war.24Und niemand entsetzte sich und zerriss seine Kleider, weder der König noch seine Großen, die doch alle diese Worte gehört hatten. (2Ki 22:11)25Und obwohl Elnatan, Delaja und Gemarja den König baten, er möge die Schriftrolle nicht verbrennen, hörte er nicht auf sie.26Dazu gebot der König Jerachmeel, dem Königssohn, und Seraja, dem Sohn Asriëls, und Schelemja, dem Sohn Abdeels, sie sollten Baruch, den Schreiber, und Jeremia, den Propheten, ergreifen. Aber der HERR hatte sie verborgen.27Nachdem der König die Schriftrolle verbrannt hatte, auf die Baruch die Worte geschrieben hatte, wie Jeremia sie ihm sagte, geschah des HERRN Wort zu Jeremia:28Nimm dir eine neue Schriftrolle und schreibe darauf alle vorigen Worte, die auf der ersten Schriftrolle standen, die Jojakim, der König von Juda, verbrannt hat.29Über Jojakim aber, den König von Juda, sollst du sagen: So spricht der HERR: Du hast diese Schriftrolle verbrannt und gesagt: Warum hast du darauf geschrieben, dass der König von Babel kommen und dies Land verderben werde, sodass weder Menschen noch Vieh mehr darin sein werden? (Jer 7:20; Jer 9:9; Jer 25:8)30Darum, so spricht der HERR über Jojakim, den König von Juda: Es soll keiner von den Seinen auf dem Thron Davids sitzen, und sein Leichnam soll hingeworfen liegen, am Tag in der Hitze und nachts im Frost. (Jer 22:19; Jer 22:30)31Und ich will ihn und seine Nachkommen und seine Großen heimsuchen um ihrer Schuld willen, und ich will über sie und über die Bürger Jerusalems und über die in Juda kommen lassen all das Unheil, von dem ich zu ihnen geredet habe, und sie gehorchten doch nicht.32Da nahm Jeremia eine andere Schriftrolle und gab sie Baruch, dem Sohn Nerijas, dem Schreiber. Der schrieb darauf, so wie ihm Jeremia vorsagte, alle Worte, die auf der Schriftrolle standen, die Jojakim, der König von Juda, im Feuer verbrannt hatte; und es wurden zu ihnen noch viele ähnliche Worte hinzugetan.

Tu y écriras toutes les paroles que je t'ai dites concernant Israël et Juda ainsi que toutes les nations, depuis le jour où j'ai commencé à te parler, à l'époque de Josias, jusqu'à aujourd'hui.3Quand la communauté de Juda entendra tout le mal que je prévois de lui faire, peut-être chacun renoncera-t-il à sa mauvaise conduite. Alors je pardonnerai leur faute et leur péché.»4Jérémie appela Baruc, fils de Nérija, et celui-ci écrivit dans un livre, sous sa dictée, toutes les paroles que l'Eternel lui avait dites.5Puis Jérémie donna cet ordre à Baruc: «J'ai un empêchement, je ne peux pas me rendre à la maison de l'Eternel.6Tu iras toi-même là-bas et tu feras, dans le livre que tu as écrit sous ma dictée, la lecture des paroles de l'Eternel au peuple. Tu le feras dans la maison de l'Eternel, le jour du jeûne. Tu les liras aussi à tous les Judéens qui se seront déplacés depuis leurs villes.7Peut-être adresseront-ils des supplications à l'Eternel, peut-être chacun renoncera-t-il à sa mauvaise conduite. En effet, c'est d'un grand déversement de colère et de fureur que l'Eternel a menacé ce peuple.»8Baruc, fils de Nérija, se conforma à tout ce que lui avait ordonné le prophète Jérémie: il fit dans le livre la lecture des paroles de l'Eternel, dans la maison de l'Eternel.9Le neuvième mois de la cinquième année du règne de Jojakim, fils de Josias, sur Juda, toute la population de Jérusalem et tous ceux qui devaient se déplacer depuis les villes de Juda jusqu'à Jérusalem furent convoqués pour jeûner devant l'Eternel.10Alors Baruc lut, dans le livre, les paroles de Jérémie à tout le peuple. Il se tenait dans la maison de l'Eternel, depuis la chambre de Guemaria, fils du secrétaire Shaphan, qui donnait sur le parvis supérieur, vers l'entrée de la porte neuve du temple.11Michée, fils de Guemaria et petit-fils de Shaphan, entendit toutes les paroles de l'Eternel contenues dans le livre.12Il descendit au palais, dans la chambre du secrétaire, où tous les chefs tenaient une séance. Il y avait Elishama, le secrétaire, Delaja, fils de Shemaeja, Elnathan, fils d'Acbor, Guemaria, fils de Shaphan, Sédécias, fils de Hanania, et tous les autres chefs.13Michée leur rapporta toutes les paroles qu'il avait entendues lorsque Baruc faisait la lecture du livre au peuple.14Alors tous les chefs envoyèrent vers Baruc Jehudi, fils de Nethania, descendant de Shélémia et Cushi, pour lui dire: «Prends avec toi le livre dont tu fais la lecture au peuple et viens!» Baruc, fils de Nérija, prit le livre avec lui et se rendit auprès d'eux.15Ils lui dirent: «Assieds-toi donc et lis-le-nous!» Et Baruc leur en fit la lecture.16A l'écoute de toutes ces paroles, ils se regardèrent les uns les autres, terrifiés, et dirent à Baruc: «Nous devons absolument faire un rapport complet au roi.»17Ils demandèrent encore à Baruc: «Raconte-nous donc comment tu as écrit toutes ces paroles! L'as-tu vraiment fait sous la dictée de Jérémie?»18Baruc leur répondit: «Il m'a lui-même dicté toutes ces paroles, et je les ai écrites dans ce livre avec de l'encre.»19Les chefs dirent à Baruc: «Va te cacher, ainsi que Jérémie, et que personne ne sache où vous êtes!»20Ils allèrent ensuite trouver le roi dans la cour, tout en laissant le livre dans la chambre d'Elishama, le secrétaire, et lui firent un rapport complet.21Le roi envoya Jehudi prendre le livre. Ce dernier alla le prendre dans la chambre d'Elishama, le secrétaire, et ce fut lui qui en fit la lecture au roi et à tous les chefs présents à ses côtés.22Le roi était alors installé dans ses appartements d'hiver, puisque c'était le neuvième mois, et un braséro était allumé devant lui.23Lorsque Jehudi avait fini de lire trois ou quatre feuilles, le roi les découpait avec le couteau du secrétaire et les jetait dans le feu du braséro, et ce jusqu'à la fin du livre.24A l'écoute de toutes ces paroles, le roi et tous ses serviteurs ne furent pas terrifiés et ne déchirèrent pas leurs habits.25Elnathan, Delaja et Guemaria étaient même intervenus auprès du roi pour qu'il ne brûle pas le livre, mais il ne les avait pas écoutés.26Il ordonna au contraire à son fils Jerachmeel, à Seraja, fils d'Azriel, et à Shélémia, fils d'Abdeel, d'arrêter le scribe Baruc et le prophète Jérémie, mais l'Eternel les cacha.27La parole de l'Eternel fut adressée à Jérémie après que le roi eut brûlé le livre contenant les paroles que Baruc avait écrites sous sa dictée:28«Prends un autre livre et écris-y toutes les paroles qui figuraient dans le premier livre, celui que Jojakim, le roi de Juda, a brûlé.29A propos de Jojakim, roi de Juda, tu diras: ‘Voici ce que dit l'Eternel: Toi, tu as brûlé ce livre en disant: Pourquoi y as-tu écrit que le roi de Babylone viendra, détruira ce pays et en fera disparaître les hommes et les bêtes?30C'est pourquoi, voici ce que dit l'Eternel au sujet de Jojakim, roi de Juda: Aucun des siens ne siégera sur le trône de David et son cadavre sera exposé à la chaleur pendant le jour et au froid pendant la nuit.31J'interviendrai contre lui, contre sa descendance et contre ses serviteurs à cause de leurs fautes, et je ferai venir sur eux, sur les habitants de Jérusalem et sur les Judéens tout le mal dont je les ai menacés sans qu'ils en tiennent compte.’»32Jérémie prit un autre livre et le donna au scribe Baruc, fils de Nérija. Celui-ci y écrivit, sous sa dictée, toutes les paroles du livre que Jojakim, roi de Juda, avait brûlé. Beaucoup d'autres paroles du même ordre y furent encore ajoutées.
