1Then certain of the elders of Israel came to me and sat before me. (Eze 8:1)2And the word of the Lord came to me:3“Son of man, these men have taken their idols into their hearts, and set the stumbling block of their iniquity before their faces. Should I indeed let myself be consulted by them? (2Ki 3:13; Eze 2:1; Eze 7:19; Eze 20:3; Eze 20:31; Eze 36:37; Eze 44:12)4Therefore speak to them and say to them, Thus says the Lord God: Any one of the house of Israel who takes his idols into his heart and sets the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face, and yet comes to the prophet, I the Lord will answer him as he comes with the multitude of his idols, (Eze 14:7)5that I may lay hold of the hearts of the house of Israel, who are all estranged from me through their idols. (Isa 1:4; 2Th 2:11)6“Therefore say to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord God: Repent and turn away from your idols, and turn away your faces from all your abominations. (Eze 18:30; Eze 18:32)7For any one of the house of Israel, or of the strangers who sojourn in Israel, who separates himself from me, taking his idols into his heart and putting the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face, and yet comes to a prophet to consult me through him, I the Lord will answer him myself. (Eze 14:4; Eze 14:5)8And I will set my face against that man; I will make him a sign and a byword and cut him off from the midst of my people, and you shall know that I am the Lord. (Le 17:10; De 28:37; Jer 44:11; Eze 5:15; Eze 6:7; Eze 15:7)9And if the prophet is deceived and speaks a word, I, the Lord, have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand against him and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel. (1Ki 22:23)10And they shall bear their punishment[1]—the punishment of the prophet and the punishment of the inquirer shall be alike—11that the house of Israel may no more go astray from me, nor defile themselves anymore with all their transgressions, but that they may be my people and I may be their God, declares the Lord God.” (Eze 11:20; Eze 37:23)
Jerusalem Will Not Be Spared
12And the word of the Lord came to me:13“Son of man, when a land sins against me by acting faithlessly, and I stretch out my hand against it and break its supply[2] of bread and send famine upon it, and cut off from it man and beast, (2Ch 36:14; Eze 2:1; Eze 4:16; Eze 14:17; Eze 14:19; Eze 14:21; Eze 15:8; Eze 17:20; Eze 18:24; Eze 20:27)14even if these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they would deliver but their own lives by their righteousness, declares the Lord God. (Ge 6:9; Job 1:1; Jer 15:1; Eze 3:19; Eze 28:3; Da 9:23)15“If I cause wild beasts to pass through the land, and they ravage it, and it be made desolate, so that no one may pass through because of the beasts, (Eze 5:17; Eze 6:6; Eze 12:20)16even if these three men were in it, as I live, declares the Lord God, they would deliver neither sons nor daughters. They alone would be delivered, but the land would be desolate. (Eze 5:11; Eze 6:14)17“Or if I bring a sword upon that land and say, Let a sword pass through the land, and I cut off from it man and beast, (Le 26:25; Jer 47:6; Eze 14:13; Eze 21:3; Eze 21:9)18though these three men were in it, as I live, declares the Lord God, they would deliver neither sons nor daughters, but they alone would be delivered. (Eze 14:14)19“Or if I send a pestilence into that land and pour out my wrath upon it with blood, to cut off from it man and beast, (2Sa 24:15; Eze 38:22)20even if Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it, as I live, declares the Lord God, they would deliver neither son nor daughter. They would deliver but their own lives by their righteousness.21“For thus says the Lord God: How much more when I send upon Jerusalem my four disastrous acts of judgment, sword, famine, wild beasts, and pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast! (Eze 5:17; Eze 14:13; Eze 14:15; Eze 14:17; Eze 14:19; Eze 33:27; Re 6:8)22But behold, some survivors will be left in it, sons and daughters who will be brought out; behold, when they come out to you, and you see their ways and their deeds, you will be consoled for the disaster that I have brought upon Jerusalem, for all that I have brought upon it. (Eze 6:8; Eze 12:16; Eze 14:23; Eze 16:54; Eze 20:43)23They will console you, when you see their ways and their deeds, and you shall know that I have not done without cause all that I have done in it, declares the Lord God.”

Sollte ich mich wirklich von ihnen befragen lassen?4Darum rede mit ihnen und sage zu ihnen: So spricht Gott der HERR: Jedem vom Hause Israel, der mit seinem Herzen an seinen Götzen hängt und vor sich aufgestellt hat, was ihn schuldig werden lässt, und dann zum Propheten kommt, dem will ich, der HERR, antworten, wie er’s verdient hat mit seinen vielen Götzen,5damit ich so dem Hause Israel ans Herz greife, weil sie von mir gewichen sind mit all ihren Götzen.6Darum sollst du zum Hause Israel sagen: So spricht Gott der HERR: Kehrt um und wendet euch ab von euren Götzen und wendet euer Angesicht von allen euren Gräueln.7Denn jedem vom Hause Israel oder von den Fremdlingen in Israel, der von mir weicht und mit seinem Herzen an seinen Götzen hängt und vor sich aufgestellt hat, was ihn schuldig werden lässt, und der dann zum Propheten kommt, um durch ihn mich zu befragen, dem will ich, der HERR, selbst antworten.8Ich will mein Angesicht gegen ihn richten und ihn zum Zeichen und Sprichwort machen und will ihn aus meinem Volk ausrotten. So sollt ihr erfahren, dass ich der HERR bin.9Wenn aber ein Prophet sich betören lässt, etwas zu verkünden, so habe ich, der HERR, diesen Propheten betört und will meine Hand gegen ihn ausstrecken und ihn aus meinem Volk Israel ausrotten. (1Ki 22:20)10So sollen sie beide ihre Schuld tragen: Wie die Schuld des Befragenden, so soll auch die Schuld des Propheten sein, (Eze 3:17)11damit das Haus Israel nicht mehr von mir abirrt und sich nicht mehr unrein macht durch alle seine Übertretungen; sondern sie sollen mein Volk sein, und ich will ihr Gott sein, spricht Gott der HERR. (Eze 11:20)
Wer Gottes Gericht überleben wird
12Und des HERRN Wort geschah zu mir:13Du Menschenkind, wenn ein Land an mir sündigt und Treubruch begeht und wenn ich meine Hand gegen das Land ausstrecke und ihm den Vorrat an Brot wegnehme und Hungersnot ins Land schicke, um Menschen und Vieh darin auszurotten, (Eze 4:16)14und wenn dann diese drei Männer im Lande wären, Noah, Daniel und Hiob, so würden sie durch ihre Gerechtigkeit allein ihr Leben retten, spricht Gott der HERR. (Jer 15:1)15Und wenn ich wilde Tiere ins Land bringen würde, die die Leute ausrotteten und das Land zur Einöde machten, sodass niemand mehr hindurchziehen könnte wegen der wilden Tiere,16und diese drei Männer wären auch darin – so wahr ich lebe, spricht Gott der HERR: Sie würden weder Söhne noch Töchter retten, sondern allein sich selbst, und das Land müsste öde werden.17Oder wenn ich das Schwert kommen ließe über dies Land und sprechen würde: Schwert, fahre durchs Land!, und würde Menschen und Vieh ausrotten,18und diese drei Männer wären darin – so wahr ich lebe, spricht Gott der HERR: Sie würden weder Söhne noch Töchter retten, sondern sie allein würden errettet werden.19Oder wenn ich die Pest in dies Land schicken und meinen Grimm darüber ausschütten würde mit Blutvergießen, um Menschen und Vieh darin auszurotten,20und Noah, Daniel und Hiob wären darin – so wahr ich lebe, spricht Gott der HERR: Sie würden durch ihre Gerechtigkeit weder Sohn noch Tochter retten, sondern allein ihr eigenes Leben.21Denn so spricht Gott der HERR: Wenn ich meine vier schweren Strafen, Schwert, Hunger, wilde Tiere und Pest, über Jerusalem schicken werde, um darin auszurotten Menschen und Vieh, (Le 26:16; Jer 15:3; Eze 5:17; Re 6:8)22siehe, so sollen einige übrig bleiben und davonkommen, die Söhne und Töchter herausbringen werden. Die sollen zu euch kommen, und ihr werdet ihren Wandel und ihre Taten sehen und euch trösten über das Unheil, das ich über Jerusalem habe kommen lassen, und über all das andre, das ich über die Stadt habe kommen lassen.23Sie werden euer Trost sein, wenn ihr sehen werdet ihren Wandel und ihre Taten, und ihr werdet erfahren, dass ich nicht ohne Grund getan habe, was ich an Jerusalem getan habe, spricht Gott der HERR.

Vais-je donc me laisser consulter par eux?4C'est pourquoi, parle-leur! Tu leur diras: ‘Voici ce que dit le Seigneur, l'Eternel: Tout Israélite qui porte ses idoles sur son cœur et place juste devant lui ce qui le pousse à la faute, s'il vient s'adresser au prophète, moi, l'Eternel, je lui répondrai, s'il vient, quel que soit le nombre de ses idoles.5J'agirai de cette manière afin de toucher le cœur des Israélites qui se sont détournés de moi à cause de toutes leurs idoles.’6C'est pourquoi, annonce à la communauté d'Israël: ‘Voici ce que dit le Seigneur, l'Eternel: Revenez à moi et abandonnez vos idoles, abandonnez toutes vos pratiques abominables!7En effet, tout Israélite ou tout étranger en séjour en Israël qui s'éloigne de moi, qui porte ses idoles dans son cœur et qui place juste devant lui ce qui le pousse à la faute, s'il vient s'adresser au prophète pour me consulter à travers lui, moi, l'Eternel, je lui répondrai moi-même:8je me retournerai contre cet homme; je ferai de lui un signe, un sujet de proverbes, et je l'exclurai du milieu de mon peuple. Vous reconnaîtrez alors que je suis l'Eternel.’9»Si le prophète se laisse séduire et prononce une parole, c'est moi, l'Eternel, qui aurai séduit ce prophète. Je déploierai ma puissance contre lui et je le ferai disparaître du milieu de mon peuple, d'Israël.10Ils supporteront ainsi les conséquences de leur faute. La peine du prophète sera pareille à la peine de celui qui le consulte,11afin que la communauté d'Israël ne s'égare plus loin de moi et qu'elle ne se rende plus impure par toutes ses transgressions. Alors ils seront mon peuple, et je serai leur Dieu, déclare le Seigneur, l'Eternel.»
L'exemple de trois hommes justes
12La parole de l'Eternel m'a été adressée:13«Fils de l'homme, si un pays pèche contre moi en se livrant à l'infidélité et que je déploie ma puissance contre lui – si je le prive de pain, lui envoie la famine et en élimine hommes et bêtes –14s'il s'y trouve ces trois hommes: Noé, Daniel et Job, eux auront la vie sauve à cause de leur justice, déclare le Seigneur, l'Eternel.15Si je fais parcourir le pays par des bêtes féroces qui le dépeuplent, s'il devient un endroit désert par où personne ne passe à cause de ces bêtes,16s'il s'y trouve ces trois hommes – aussi vrai que je suis vivant, déclare le Seigneur, l'Eternel – ils ne sauveront ni fils ni filles: eux seuls seront sauvés et le pays deviendra un endroit désert.17Ou si je fais venir l'épée contre ce pays, si je dis: ‘Que l'épée parcoure le pays!’ et que j'en élimine hommes et bêtes,18s'il s'y trouve ces trois hommes – aussi vrai que je suis vivant, déclare le Seigneur, l'Eternel – ils ne sauveront ni fils ni filles, mais eux seuls seront sauvés.19Ou si j'envoie la peste dans ce pays, si je déverse ma fureur sur lui par la mortalité pour en éliminer hommes et bêtes,20s'il s'y trouve Noé, Daniel et Job – aussi vrai que je suis vivant, déclare le Seigneur, l'Eternel – ils ne sauveront ni fils ni fille; eux, ils auront la vie sauve à cause de leur justice.21»Oui, voici ce que dit le Seigneur, l'Eternel: Même si j'envoie contre Jérusalem mes quatre terribles instruments de jugement – l'épée, la famine, les bêtes féroces et la peste – pour en éliminer hommes et bêtes,22il y restera des rescapés, on en fera sortir des fils et des filles. Ils sortiront pour aller vers vous. Vous découvrirez ainsi leur conduite et leurs agissements et vous serez consolés du malheur que je fais venir sur Jérusalem, de tout ce que je fais venir contre elle.23Ils vous consoleront, quand vous découvrirez leur conduite et leurs agissements, et vous reconnaîtrez que ce n'est pas sans raison que je traite cette ville comme je la traite, déclare le Seigneur, l'Eternel.»
