O Lord, Do Not Delay

To the choirmaster. Of David, for the memorial offering.

1 Make haste, O God, to deliver me! O LORD, make haste to help me! (Ps 40:13) 2 Let them be put to shame and confusion who seek my life! Let them be turned back and brought to dishonor who delight in my hurt! 3 Let them turn back because of their shame who say, “Aha, Aha!” 4 May all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you! May those who love your salvation say evermore, “God is great!” 5 But I am poor and needy; hasten to me, O God! You are my help and my deliverer; O LORD, do not delay! (Ps 141:1)

(Ps 40:14) 2 Eile, Gott, mich zu erretten, HERR, mir zu helfen! 3 Es sollen sich schämen und zuschanden werden, die mir nach dem Leben trachten; sie sollen zurückweichen und zum Spott werden, die mir mein Unglück gönnen. 4 Sie sollen umkehren um ihrer Schande willen, die über mich schreien: Da, da! 5 Lass deiner sich freuen und fröhlich sein alle, die nach dir fragen; und die dein Heil lieben, lass allewege sagen: Hochgelobt sei Gott! 6 Ich aber bin elend und arm; Gott, eile zu mir! Du bist mein Helfer und Erretter; HERR, säume nicht!

1 Al direttore del coro. Di Davide. Per far ricordare. Affrèttati, o Dio, a liberarmi! Signore, affrèttati in mio aiuto! 2 Siano confusi e si vergognino quelli che cercano l’anima mia! Voltino le spalle e siano coperti d’infamia quelli che desiderano il mio male! 3 Indietreggino, sotto il peso della loro infamia, quelli che mi deridono. 4 Gioiscano ed esultino in te quelli che ti cercano; e quelli che amano la tua salvezza dicano sempre: «Sia glorificato Dio!» 5 Ma io sono misero e povero; o Dio, affrèttati a venire in mio aiuto; tu sei il mio sostegno e il mio liberatore; Signore, non tardare!
