1 Then all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and said, “Behold, we are your bone and flesh. (Ge 29:14; 1Ch 11:1) 2 In times past, when Saul was king over us, it was you who led out and brought in Israel. And the LORD said to you, ‘You shall be shepherd of my people Israel, and you shall be prince[1] over Israel.’” (1Sa 18:13; 2Sa 7:7; 1Ch 17:6; Ps 78:71; Ps 78:72; Mt 2:6) 3 So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and King David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the LORD, and they anointed David king over Israel. (Jud 11:11; 1Sa 23:18; 2Sa 3:12; 2Sa 3:13; 2Sa 3:21; 2Ki 11:17) 4 David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years. (1Ki 2:11; 1Ch 3:4; 1Ch 29:27) 5 At Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months, and at Jerusalem he reigned over all Israel and Judah thirty-three years.[2] (2Sa 2:11; 2Sa 4:1) 6 And the king and his men went to Jerusalem against the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, who said to David, “You will not come in here, but the blind and the lame will ward you off”—thinking, “David cannot come in here.” (Jos 15:63; Jud 1:21; Jud 19:11; 1Ch 11:4) 7 Nevertheless, David took the stronghold of Zion, that is, the city of David. (2Sa 6:12; 2Sa 6:16) 8 And David said on that day, “Whoever would strike the Jebusites, let him get up the water shaft to attack ‘the lame and the blind,’ who are hated by David’s soul.” Therefore it is said, “The blind and the lame shall not come into the house.” 9 And David lived in the stronghold and called it the city of David. And David built the city all around from the Millo inward. (2Sa 7:1; 1Ki 9:15; 1Ki 9:24; 1Ki 11:27; 2Ki 12:20; 2Ch 32:5) 10 And David became greater and greater, for the LORD, the God of hosts, was with him. 11 And Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar trees, also carpenters and masons who built David a house. (1Ki 5:1; 1Ki 6:1; 1Ch 14:1) 12 And David knew that the LORD had established him king over Israel, and that he had exalted his kingdom for the sake of his people Israel. 13 And David took more concubines and wives from Jerusalem, after he came from Hebron, and more sons and daughters were born to David. (1Ch 3:9) 14 And these are the names of those who were born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon, (1Ch 3:5) 15 Ibhar, Elishua, Nepheg, Japhia, 16 Elishama, Eliada, and Eliphelet. 17 When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over Israel, all the Philistines went up to search for David. But David heard of it and went down to the stronghold. (1Sa 22:4; 1Sa 22:5; 2Sa 23:14) 18 Now the Philistines had come and spread out in the Valley of Rephaim. (Jos 15:8; Jos 17:15; Jos 18:16; 2Sa 5:22; 2Sa 23:13) 19 And David inquired of the LORD, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will you give them into my hand?” And the LORD said to David, “Go up, for I will certainly give the Philistines into your hand.” (2Sa 2:1) 20 And David came to Baal-perazim, and David defeated them there. And he said, “The LORD has broken through my enemies before me like a breaking flood.” Therefore the name of that place is called Baal-perazim.[3] (Isa 28:21) 21 And the Philistines left their idols there, and David and his men carried them away. 22 And the Philistines came up yet again and spread out in the Valley of Rephaim. (2Sa 5:18) 23 And when David inquired of the LORD, he said, “You shall not go up; go around to their rear, and come against them opposite the balsam trees. (1Sa 22:10) 24 And when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, then rouse yourself, for then the LORD has gone out before you to strike down the army of the Philistines.” (Jud 4:14; 2Ki 7:6) 25 And David did as the LORD commanded him, and struck down the Philistines from Geba to Gezer. (Jos 10:33)

1 Toutes les tribus d'Israël vinrent auprès de David, à Hébron, et dirent: Voici, nous sommes tes os et ta chair. 2 Autrefois déjà, lorsque Saül était notre roi, c'était toi qui conduisais et qui ramenais Israël. L'Éternel t'a dit: Tu paîtras mon peuple d'Israël, et tu seras le chef d'Israël. 3 Ainsi tous les anciens d'Israël vinrent auprès du roi à Hébron, et le roi David fit alliance avec eux à Hébron, devant l'Éternel. Ils oignirent David pour roi sur Israël. 4 David était âgé de trente ans lorsqu'il devint roi, et il régna quarante ans. 5 A Hébron il régna sur Juda sept ans et six mois, et à Jérusalem il régna trente-trois ans sur tout Israël et Juda. 6 Le roi marcha avec ses gens sur Jérusalem contre les Jébusiens, habitants du pays. Ils dirent à David: Tu n'entreras point ici, car les aveugles mêmes et les boiteux te repousseront! Ce qui voulait dire: David n'entrera point ici. 7 Mais David s'empara de la forteresse de Sion: c'est la cité de David. 8 David avait dit en ce jour: Quiconque battra les Jébusiens et atteindra le canal, quiconque frappera ces boiteux et ces aveugles qui sont les ennemis de David... -C'est pourquoi l'on dit: L'aveugle et le boiteux n'entreront point dans la maison. 9 David s'établit dans la forteresse, qu'il appela cité de David. Il fit de tous côtés des constructions, en dehors et en dedans de Millo. 10 David devenait de plus en plus grand, et l'Éternel, le Dieu des armées, était avec lui. 11 Hiram, roi de Tyr, envoya des messagers à David, et du bois de cèdre, et des charpentiers et des tailleurs de pierres, qui bâtirent une maison pour David. 12 David reconnut que l'Éternel l'affermissait comme roi d'Israël, et qu'il élevait son royaume à cause de son peuple d'Israël. 13 David prit encore des concubines et des femmes de Jérusalem, après qu'il fut venu d'Hébron, et il lui naquit encore des fils et des filles. 14 Voici les noms de ceux qui lui naquirent à Jérusalem: Schammua, Schobab, Nathan, Salomon, 15 Jibhar, Élischua, Népheg, Japhia, 16 Élischama, Éliada et Éliphéleth. 17 Les Philistins apprirent qu'on avait oint David pour roi sur Israël, et ils montèrent tous à sa recherche. David, qui en fut informé, descendit à la forteresse. 18 Les Philistins arrivèrent, et se répandirent dans la vallée des Rephaïm. 19 David consulta l'Éternel, en disant: Monterai-je contre les Philistins? Les livreras-tu entre mes mains? Et l'Éternel dit à David: Monte, car je livrerai les Philistins entre tes mains. 20 David vint à Baal Peratsim, où il les battit. Puis il dit: L'Éternel a dispersé mes ennemis devant moi, comme des eaux qui s'écoulent. C'est pourquoi l'on a donné à ce lieu le nom de Baal Peratsim. 21 Ils laissèrent là leurs idoles, et David et ses gens les emportèrent. 22 Les Philistins montèrent de nouveau, et se répandirent dans la vallée des Rephaïm. 23 David consulta l'Éternel. Et l'Éternel dit: Tu ne monteras pas; tourne-les par derrière, et tu arriveras sur eux vis-à-vis des mûriers. 24 Quand tu entendras un bruit de pas dans les cimes des mûriers, alors hâte-toi, car c'est l'Éternel qui marche devant toi pour battre l'armée des Philistins. 25 David fit ce que l'Éternel lui avait ordonné, et il battit les Philistins depuis Guéba jusqu'à Guézer.
